Summer is a grand and glorious season of life! The sun is shining in our eyes. We wonder what in the world we did with those sunglasses that we thought were so cute and never wore last year. For much of the country, it is time to peel off those layers of heavy clothing. Just shedding those winter garments makes you feel like you have lost ten pounds instantly. The tight-fitting clothes leftover from our season of the pandemic is a conversation for another day.  

Spring turns to summer, and our energy and motivation are at an all-time high. We feel refreshed and invigorated once again. After our long and painful season of Covid, we crave refreshing, and we crave friends. We crave community. We crave the little pleasures of life that make life worthwhile. Let’s allow ourselves to have a season of joy, a light spirit, and a light heart.

My challenge for you this week is to experience the world with a child-like wonder. Be silly for a change. Embrace whimsy. Let your spirit soar. Let go and let God energize you once again. For those who have forgotten this sense of freedom and wonder, here are three things you might consider doing. 

1. Eat an ice cream cone in public. Let it drip all over your clothes, and laugh out loud at the sheer joy of it all.

2. Buy bubble wands from the Dollar Store. Blow bubbles at everyone you meet.  Watch the delight in people’s faces as they see the bubbles glistening in the sunlight.

3. Fly a kite at the park. When it is up in the air, give the string to a child, a teenager, or someone who is not expecting it.  Their eyes will light up with surprise as they watch the wind lift the kite wings and the tail flutters and bobs to and fro!  Tell them the kite is a gift and walk away while laughing.
