Supreme Leader Meets with Members of Health Care Charity Association (2012/12/31)

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the determining role of the people in all important arenas including the arena of politics, economy, health, culture and education, further reiterating: "The Islamic Revolution was dependent on the presence of the people and if the people had not entered the arena to play their role, politicians and political movements would not have been able to do anything."

His Eminence stressed that the issue of health care should have priority over many other issues in the country, further adding: "Officials and caring individuals should make plans and follow up these matters in a way that the people feel relieved about the issue of health care."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution described preserving the popular nature of such charity associations as important and necessary, adding: "We should not take away dynamism and vibrancy from popular associations by imposing rigid bureaucratic structures."

At the end of his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei said that achieving positive results from charitable actions is the biggest incentive for those who make donations. He reiterated: "These charitable acts will satisfy God Almighty. Each charitable act will be recorded by God Almighty and it will not be ignored."

Supreme Leader Meets with Participants of International Conference on Islamic Awakening (2012/12/11)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Tuesday morning with hundreds of university professors, outstanding personalities and thinkers participating in the International Conference of Muslim University Professors and Islamic Awakening. Speaking at the meeting, His Eminence referred to the significance of Islamic Awakening and presented an in-depth analysis of the position of Islam, sharia, the conditions of the people in countries which have carried out a revolution and the dangers they face.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated that if professors, outstanding personalities and intellectuals want to play a crucial role in helping society achieve happiness and salvation, they should show purity, courage, wisdom and diligence and they should not be greedy. He added: "Islamic Awakening and its influence on the Islamic Ummah is a great event which has penetrated the whole world and which has resulted in a number of revolutions and regime change in certain countries."

Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that Islamic Awakening is a deep and widespread movement. He added that the enemies are afraid of the phrase ″Islamic Awakening″, further stating: "They are trying very hard not to let the phrase ″Islamic Awakening″ be used to refer to the current great movement in the region because the enemies are terrified of genuine Islam."

His Eminence stressed: "They do not fear the kind of Islam which is based on money, corruption, aristocracy and the kind of Islam which is not supported by the majority of people. But they tremble with fear when they see the kind of Islam which is supported by the majority of people and which is based on action, reliance on God and divine promises."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated: "We believe that the current great movement is a true example of Islamic Awakening. This movement will continue in the future and it will not easily deviate from its path."

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the reasons why this movement is called an Islamic movement, further adding: "The people's Islamic slogans in the regional revolutions and the role of Muslim believers in organizing public demonstrations and overthrowing corrupt regimes are all proof that this movement is Islamic in essence."

His Eminence added that the people's votes in favor of Islamist parties in the elections which are held in these countries is another reason why this movement is Islamic and stressed: "Today if a free election is held in many Muslim countries and if Islamist leaders and politicians participate in this election, people will vote for Islamist politicians."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the need for identifying the problems of these movements and revolutions especially in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, and stated: "Besides identifying the problems, we should highlight the goals of these revolutions because if it is not clear what the goals are, there will be confusion."

Ayatollah Khamenei added that getting rid of global hegemony is one of the objectives of Islamic Awakening and stressed: "We should announce this openly because the notion that global arrogance - headed by America - may get along with Islamic movements is a mistake."

His Eminence added: "Wherever Islam and supporters of Islam prevail, America does its best to destroy them while putting on a friendly smile."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed that the regional revolutions should distance themselves from global arrogance, further reiterating: "We do not say that they should go to war with global arrogance, but we say that if they do not distance themselves from global arrogance, they will be deceived."

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that global arrogance uses money, weapons and science to dominate the world. "Despite possessing these means, one of the current big problems of western countries is that they do not have any new idea to help humanity. This is while the world of Islam has new ideas and a roadmap to help humanity."

His Eminence said that Islam offers new ideas and a roadmap, adding: "This issue is one of the strong points of the world of Islam. If we delineate our goals on the basis of these ideas, then the money, science and weapons of the west will not be effective as they were in the past."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated that another important goal of Islamic Awakening is to make Islam and sharia the pivot of things. He added: "There is an all-out effort to claim that sharia is not compatible with progress, ch ange and civilization. This is while Islam answers all the needs of human beings and it is for all eras and all centuries."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that it is a matter of deep regret that some dogmatic movements try to promote the idea that Islam is not compatible with progressiveness. He reiterated: "What is important is to promote the idea that Islam answers all the needs of humanity."

His Eminence stated that building a governing system is another goal of Islamic Awakening and referred to a number of past events in North Africa which failed to succeed due to a lack of a system. He added: "If a governing system is not built in countries which have carried out a revolution, they will face dangers."

He added that one important thing to do regarding the regional revolutions is to strengthen popular support and stressed: "The real power is in the hands of the people. Whenever the people unanimously support th eir leaders, America and even powers that are greater than America cannot do anything to harm them."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighted the importance of keeping the people on the scene, further adding: "Intellectuals, authors, poets and especially religious scholars play a significant role in regional developments. They should help the people remain vigilant by specifying the goals and the problems and by warning them against their enemies."

Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted the need for unity among Muslim countries. He added: "The west and America are trying to create discord among Muslims under such pretexts as Shia and Sunny, ethnicity and nationality. Therefore, all of us should be vigilant and we should address and respond to this issue from this perspective and we should also adopt positions in this regard."

His Eminence stressed that despite the efforts and plots of global arroga nce, the world of Islam is moving forward, further reiterating: "One of the examples of this progress is the 8-day war. On the one side, there were the Palestinian people who lived in a very small area - namely Gaza - and on the other side there was the Zionist regime which claims to have the strongest army in the world. But it was the Palestinian side that set conditions for a ceasefire."

He added: "Would anybody have believed this ten years ago?"

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution hailed the Palestinian people, Hamas and Islamic Jihad for their courage in the events of Gaza.

Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his gratitude to Palestinian soldiers for their sacrifices, their efforts and their patience.

His Eminence stated that the 8-day war in Gaza is an important lesson for the Palestinian people and for all Muslims. He stressed: "The war in Gaza showed that if all of us stay united and show patience when we face difficulties, God Almighty will fulfill his promise of bringing comfort after a hardship."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the issue of Bahrain and added: "Unfortunately, the world of Islam is silent about the issue of Bahrain. This silence is because of the wrong attitude towards this issue."

He reiterated: "Some people have a denominational bias in the issue of Bahrain. According to these people, you can help people who have risen up against their corrupt government unless these people are Shia like the people of Bahrain."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed: "If we want to adopt a comprehensive outlook on the regional developments, we should take the plots and machinations of the enemy into consideration."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed that Iran's position on the issue of Syria is based on such an outloo k. He added: "The Islamic Republic of Iran is against shedding even one drop of blood from any Muslim. But those who have dragged Syria into a civil war, destruction and fratricide are to blame for the current situation in Syria."

His Eminence reiterated: "The demands of all peoples should be met in conventional ways and without using violence."

Elsewhere in his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei stated that training young people and achieving scientific and technological progress are essential issues for Islamic countries, especially those countries which have carried out a revolution. He reiterated: "This is possible and the Islamic Republic of Iran is a living example in this regard."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed: "Islamic countries should follow the example of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this regard and the world of Islam should reach a point where it can be an authoritative source of reference in scienti fic areas."

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Wednesday morning with members of the Basij forces. Speaking at the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the Zionists' savage attack on the people of Gaza shows the extreme brutality of the leaders of the Zionist regime. He reiterated that America, England and France shamelessly support the massacre of the people of Gaza, further adding: "Islamic countries, especially Arab governments, should reform their behavior in this issue and they should try to make the enemies lift the siege of this region by helping the innocent and brave people of Gaza. The Islamic Ummah should follow the example of the victorious resistance of the people of Gaza and it should realize that resistance is the only way to defeat the enemies of Islam."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the brutality of the Zionist attack on the innocent civi lians of Gaza should awaken the world of Islam and it should give fresh impetus to the movement of Muslim peoples, further adding: "The shocking brutality of the leaders of the Zionist regime showed that these completely savage creatures have no human qualities.

Ayatollah Khamenei stated: "The crimes of the Zionists in Gaza revealed the true nature of the enemies of the Islamic world and those who challenge the Islamic Republic at international meetings."

His Eminence strongly condemned the efforts by the leaders of global arrogance to support the crimes of the Zionists and reiterated: "America, England and France did not even frown at the brutal Zionist regime. By supporting and encouraging these criminals, they showed how inhumane and immoral the violent enemies of the Islamic Ummah are."

He added: "The leaders of global arrogance, such as the American government which supports the crimes of the brutal Zio nists, shamelessly claim that they defend human rights and they put themselves in the position of prosecutors of other peoples and countries."

Ayatollah Khamenei added: "The behavior of Arab and Islamic governments regarding the events of Gaza was not acceptable because some of them only condemned the Zionists in words and some others did not even condemn the Zionists in words."

He stressed: "Those who call Muslim nations to unity and claim to be the leaders of the Islamic Ummah are very outspoken on issues which suit their political agenda, but in this case - because they have to get involved with America and England - they refuse to condemn the Zionists in an outspoken and genuine way or they merely offer verbal support, which is of little value."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the glorious resistance of the people and youth of Gaza, adding: "By Allah's favor, they proved once more that by relying on faith, resistance and diligence it is possible to defeat large and heavily armed groups that are supported by the arrogant powers."

His Eminence said that the Zionist regime is nervously looking for a ceasefire. He reiterated: "Those who started those brutal actions received were harmed more and they are looking for a ceasefire more desperately than the small number of people who live in the Gaza Strip."

Ayatollah Khamenei added that Islamic countries should strengthen their faith and determination and that they should make scientific and technological progress in order to advance in the area of building weapons as well as in other areas.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution also referred to the efforts by the Majlis to summon the President for questioning and described the efforts as praiseworthy. "One reason is that it shows their sense of responsibility towards the issues of th e country and another reason is that the executive branch courageously announced its preparedness for answering the questions posed by the MPs."

His Eminence added: "The legislative branch proved that it has a strong sense of responsibility and the executive branch proved that it has enormous confidence in its decisions and actions. This was a good test for both braches, but I believe it is enough and the efforts should not be continued."

He added: "The people are also wise and they know that the continuation of this issue is exactly what the enemy wants."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the need for tranquility in the country and reiterated: "Using newspapers and the Internet, certain people may create uproar while all officials need tranquility to do their duties and the people also want peace and tranquility. Ending this issue will prove that the legislative and executive branches respect unity and tranqu ility more than anything else."

Elsewhere in his statements, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to Basij Week and said that Basij should avoid all kinds of superficial outlooks in different areas. His Eminence reiterated that avoiding arrogance and hypocrisy is a necessity for remaining a basiji. He added that it is necessary to make Basij a living and dynamic role model in the world of Islam.

Supreme Leader Meets with Hajj Officials (2012/11/19)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met this morning with officials in charge of this year's hajj affairs. Speaking at the meeting, His Eminence referred to the Syrian unrest and stated that the Islamic Republic's position on the Syrian issue is completely clear. He added: "The truth of the Syrian issue is that the camp of the arrogant powers is trying to destroy the link that connects the chain of resistance in the region and is located next to the borders of the usurping Zionist regime."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the solution to the Syrian crisis is to prevent weapons from being pumped into Syria and reiterated: "In any country, if opposition forces are provided with weapons from outside the country, the ruling system will naturally confront them."

His Eminence added: "If the opposition forces in Syria put their weapons down, there will be an opportunity for them to demand of the government to listen to them and let them announce their positions."

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to hajj as an exceptional obligation and stressed the necessity of unity in the world of Islam. He stated that hajj reveals unity, greatness and diversity of the world of Islam and added that it is necessary to make the best of the capacity of hajj.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that hajj consists of worship and solemn praying as well as political and social presence. He reiterated: "Until before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iranian hajj pilgrims were only concerned about performing hajj rituals in the right way. This is while this massive and exceptional gathering includes other important aspects such as diversity, greatness and unity of the Muslim world, which can launch a new movement for improving the individual and society and for bringing about Islamic unity. And this noble outlook sh ould be communicated to non-Iranian hajj pilgrims as well."

His Eminence highlighted the importance of unity between Shia and Sunni Muslims and added that Shia-Sunni differences are not a recent development and that they have existed for a long time. "But in recent years, these differences have increased in an unusual way which shows that efforts are being made to increase differences in the Islamic world."

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met today with Iranian students. Speaking at the meeting, which was held on the occasion of Student Day, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the Iranian nation has been successful in its confrontation with the arrogant powers of the world, further adding: "There is nobody in the world who doubts the fact that over the past thirty years, America has declined more than thirty levels in terms of power and global credibility. Everybody knows this. Even the Americans themselves admit this."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that currently America is the most hated government in the world and added: "If the regional governments as well as other governments outside the region find the courage to specify a day for expressing hatred towards the American government and tell their people to take to the streets on that day, the demonstration that will be staged will be the largest in history."

His Eminence said that America has lost credibility in the world and added that American values have been undermined in the world. "They were claiming that they were opposed to terrorism. Today in our region and in many other parts of the world, they enter into an alliance with terrorists. They arrange meetings with terrorists and negotiate with them. They provide terrorists with money and weapons so that they can carry on their terrorist activities. They support the Munafeqeen grouplet who have admitted to having assassinated thousands of people in the country. They took this grouplet off their so-called list of terrorist organizations."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to America's claims of supporting democracy and stated: "They say that they are after democracy and the right to vote, yet they strongly support the most autocratic rulers in our region and i n other parts of the world. Everybody can clearly see this."

Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that human rights is promoted in the world as an American value and added: "They are carrying the flag of human rights, but the worst actions against human rights are carried out under the protection of America. Not only do the Americans fail to confront such actions, but they also support them. In the occupied Palestinian lands, the shameless Zionist thugs have been openly trampling on the rights of the Palestinian nation for 65 years. But the Americans do not even frown at them. They even help and support the Zionists."

His Eminence said that America's opposition to popular movements for freedom and reform contradicts its proclaimed support for peoples. He reiterated: "They claim that they are the wealthiest nation and government in the world... But the performance of their politicians has been so bad that today America is the most indebted government in the world."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the large prison population in America and stated: "They claim to support freedom, yet there is no other country in the world whose incarceration rate is as high as that of America."

He said that American governments keep the facts from their own people and added: "They claim that they have a proud people. American governments have humiliated and misguided their people."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed: "The 99 percent movement, the anti-Wall Street movement, has been launched in spite of the fact that the people of America are not aware of many of the facts. If the people of America were aware of those facts, this movement would be intensified more than ten times."

His Eminence said that American governments' obedience to the Zionists is one of the reasons behind the decline of American values and principles. He added: "Is it not a disgrace for a government if its presidential candidates speak in a way in their electoral campaigns to make the Zionists happy and to prove their obedience to them? In the electoral debates between the two presidential candidates, each candidate tries his best to express his obedience to the Jewish population of Palestine, to the Zionists, to Israeli capitalists. This is because they are under the yoke of the Zionists."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that this decline has undermined America's power on a daily basis. "The arrogant American government is the one that has been defeated in the battle it started in the year 1332 against the Iranian nation, and the one that has emerged victorious out of this battle is the proud, determined and powerful Iranian nation."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that it is necessary to understand the reasons behind the victories of the Iranian nati on over the past 34 years, further adding: "When a people stand up and resist in a determined way, when a people rely on their internal capacities and on Allah the Exalted, when a people lay down their lives, wealth and honor, they will be victorious in the greatest and most difficult battles even if they do not have as much money as their enemy, even if they do not have as many weapons as their enemy, even if they have not made as many advances as their enemy, even if they are fewer in number than their enemies, even if they have less than one percent of the media outlets that are available to their enemy."

His Eminence said that the confrontation between the Iranian nation and America will not come to an end and that the confrontation will only increase the power and preparedness of the Iranian nation. "We will become more powerful thanks to these challenges, but we need to be careful. We need to identify the challenges that lie ahead of us. We need to find out what the enemy wants to do. We need to find ways of confronting the enemy. If we fail to take care of these things, if we suffer from ignorance, if we suffer from laziness, if we ignore what is obvious, we will be defeated. After all, God does not discriminate in favor of anybody."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that one of the requirements for achieving victory is to resist and rely on Allah the Exalted. He reiterated: "God's grace and assistance will find nations that resist, nations that understand, nations that have insight, nations that are judicious, nations that make efforts and move forward."

His Eminence called on all Iranians to work hard and help the country make progress. He reiterated: "When everybody makes efforts, when everybody works hard, blossoming will be achieved faster, it will be possible to make more progress and victories will be more conclusive."

Ayatollah Kh amenei highlighted the necessity of unity in the country and stated: "Disputes between government officials are harmful and what is even worse is taking their disputes to the people."

He added: "I warn our government officials and the esteemed heads of the three branches of government in this regard. I have supported the heads of the three branches of government and I still support them. They are our government officials and it is necessary to help them. But I warn them to be careful."

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the recent correspondence between heads of the three branches of government and added: "They may write a hundred letters. But they should be focused on their own responsibility. They should not take their disputes to the people. They should not create an uproar about trivial things and feed them to propaganda campaigns of the enemy and to foreign radio stations and TV channels."

His Eminence reite rated: "What is important is that all of us should know that we have responsibilities. All of us should know that our position is sensitive."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the enemy is angry with Iran because of scientific advances that the Iranian nation has made. He added: "One of their common techniques is insidious infiltration - just like mice and termites. We have to be careful. Disputes should be minimal."

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that differences of opinion are natural but added that such differences should not result in public disputes between government officials.

His Eminence stressed: "From today to election day, anybody who plays on the emotions of the people in order to create discord, has definitely committed treason against the country."

Supreme Leader’s Hajj Message - 2012 (2012/10/25)

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the Two Worlds, and peace and greetings be upon the great and trustworthy Prophet, and upon his immaculate and chosen household and his blessed companions.

The season of hajj, which is full of mercy and blessings, has arrived and once again the fortunate people, who have been blessed with the opportunity to be present in this brilliant meeting place, are showered with divine grace. Here, time and space call each and every one of you hajj pilgrims to spiritual and material perfection. Here, Muslim men and women with their hearts and tongues accept the call of Allah the Exalted to righteousness and salvation. Here, everybody finds the opportunity to practice brotherhood, sincerity and piety.

This place is a camp for edification and learning. It is the exhibition of unity, greatness and diversity of the Islamic Ummah. It i s the battlefield of fighting satan and taghut. Wise and Almighty Allah has made this place a site where believers will witness their interests. Once we open the eyes of wisdom and learning, these divine promises will spread into all parts of our personal and social lives. The characteristic of hajj rituals is that they connect this world to the next, and the individual to society.

Pure and glorious Ka’bah, tawaf of bodies and hearts around a firm and eternal center, constant and regular efforts from a starting point to a destination, collective migration to the otherworldly arenas of Arafat and Mash’ar, and the atmosphere that imbues hearts with sincerity and liveliness in this great otherworldly arena, a collective rush to confront the symbol of satan, and participation of all people from different places and races in this ceremony which is full of secrets, meanings and signs of guidance: these are the unique characteristics of this significant obligation.

It is such a ceremony that joins hearts to divine remembrance, enlightens the solitude of one’s heart with the light of piety and faith, brings individuals out of the walls they build around themselves and absorbs them into the diverse company of members of the Islamic Ummah, provides members of the Islamic Ummah with clothing which protects them against poisonous arrows of sins, and provokes in them the spirit of attacking satans and taghuts. It is in this place that hajj pilgrims witness with their own eyes examples of diversity of the Islamic Ummah, realize the capacity and potential of the Islamic Ummah, become hopeful about the future and feel prepared to play a role in it. They reaffirm their allegiance to the Great Prophet, enter into a firm covenant with dear Islam providing that they benefit from divine blessing and assistance, and develop in themselves a firm determination to reform themselves and the Islamic Ummah and to promote the word of Islam.

Both of these things – namely, reforming oneself and the Islamic Ummah – are two perpetual obligations. Thanks to their reflection on religious responsibilities and their wisdom and insight, it is not difficult for those who think and reflect to find ways of fulfilling these two responsibilities.

Reforming oneself starts from fighting satanic passions and making efforts to avoid sins. And reforming the Islamic Ummah starts from identifying the enemy and his plots, and making efforts to render his blows, deceptions and enmities ineffective. Efforts to reform oneself and the Islamic Ummah are organized by the bond between the hearts, hands and tongues of Muslims and Muslim nations.

At this juncture, one of the most important issues of the world of Islam, which is tied to the destiny of the Islamic Ummah, is the revolutionary events of North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, which has so far resulted in the overthrow of several corrupt regimes that took orders from America and were accomplices to the Zionists and which has shaken the foundations of other such regimes. Missing this great opportunity and failing to use it to reform the Islamic Ummah are a great loss for Muslims. Currently, all efforts of the aggressive and interfering arrogant powers have been focused on diverting these great Islamic movements from their original path.

In these great uprisings, Muslim men and women rose up against the tyranny of their rulers and the hegemony of America, which had resulted in humiliation of peoples and alliance with the criminal Zionist regime. They themselves believe that their savior in this life-and-death battle was Islam and its redeeming teachings and slogans, and they announced this in a clear voice. Defending the oppressed Palestinian nation and fighting the usurping regime were at the top of their list of demands. They extended a hand of friendship towards Muslim nations and demanded unity of the Islamic Ummah.

These are the essential pillars of popular uprisings in the countries that have raised the flag of freedom and reform over the past two years and have been present in the revolutionary arenas with their hearts and souls. And these are the things that can strengthen the essential pillars of reforming the great Islamic Ummah. Insistence on these fundamental principles is the necessary requirement for ultimate victory of the popular uprisings in these countries.

The enemy’s goal is to shake these fundamental pillars. Corrupt agents of America, NATO and Zionism – through using certain people’s lack of vigilance and superficial outlook – are trying to divert the flood-like movement of Muslim youth and turn them against each other in the name of Islam. They are trying to turn the anti-colonialism and anti-Zionism jihad into blind terrorism in the streets of the world of Islam so that Muslims shed each other’s blood and give the enemies of Islam an opportunity to save themselves from this dead end and tarnish the name and image of Islam and its soldiers.

After despairing of eliminating Islam and Islamic slogans, they have now turned to creating fitna among Islamic denominations and they are creating obstacles in the way of the unity of the Islamic Ummah through their plots to promote Shia- and Sunni-phobia.

With the help of their agents in the region, they create crises in Syria in order to divert the attention of peoples away from important issues of their countries and the dangers that threaten them, trying to focus peoples’ attention on the bloody event that they have caused on purpose. The civil war in Syria and the killing of Muslim youth at the hands of other Muslim youth are crimes that have been started by America, Zionism and governments that take orders from them and they fan the flames of this civil war. Who would believe that governments that support wicked dictatorships in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya, have now become supporters of the Syrian nation’s call for democracy? The issue of Syria is about taking revenge on a government that has single-handedly stood up against the Zionist regime for three decades and has defended resistance groups in Palestine and Lebanon.

We support the Syrian nation and we are opposed to any kind of foreign activity and interference in Syria. Any kind of reform in that country should be carried out by the Syrian people and through completely domestic methods. That international hegemons with the help of the obedient regional governments create crises in a country under certain pretexts and then use the existence of crises as an excuse to justify any crime they commit in that country, is a serious danger and if the regional governments fail to deal with it, they should expect that it will be their turn to suffer from this plot by the arrogant powers.

Brothers and sisters, the season of hajj is an opportunity to reflect on important issues of the world of Islam. The desti ny of regional revolutions and the efforts that are made by powers which have been harmed by these revolutions in order to divert them, are among these issues. Treacherous plots to foment discord among Muslims and create suspicion between the risen countries and the Islamic Republic, the issue of Palestine and the efforts to isolate Palestinian combatants and extinguish Palestinian jihad, anti-Islam propaganda of western governments and their support for those who insult the Great Prophet (Allah’s greetings be upon him and his household), preparing the ground for civil wars and dissolution of certain Muslim countries, making the revolutionary peoples and governments fear opposing the domineering western powers, promoting the illusion that their future depends on surrendering to those aggressors and other such important and vital issues are among the important matters that should be reflected upon during the opportunity that has been provided thanks to hajj and the solidarity and unity of you hajj pilgrims.

Undoubtedly, divine guidance and assistance will show the safe paths to hardworking believers: “And those who struggle in Our way, We will certainly guide them to our paths.” [The Holy Quran, Sura al-Ankabut (29), Ayah 69]

Supreme Leader Meets Outstanding Personalities of North Khorasan (2012/10/16)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Tuesday morning with government officials and outstanding personalities of North Khorasan province. At the meeting, His Eminence said that the opportunity to render services to the people is a divine blessing and a source of honor, further adding: "Our great mystics would advise their students to render services to the people besides engaging in divine remembrance, tawassul and worship."

His Eminence said that government officials who have the opportunity to serve the people in different ways should thank Allah the Exalted for the opportunity. He added: "When rendering services, everybody should be considered equal and there should be no discrimination."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed the need for determined efforts and intensified labor, adding: "Intensified labor does not mean increasi ng the volume of labor: it is more about increasing the quality of labor than about increasing the volume of labor. It means labor that is accurate, labor that is based on expert opinion, labor that is based on consultation, labor that is continued and persistent, labor that is based on planning so that it does not stop even if the officials in charge are replaced with other officials."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the country needs serious efforts and labor. He reiterated: "Whenever we announce that we are weak and tired, we immediately notice that there is a response in the world: the opponents of Islam and the Islamic Republic become hopeful and happy as if they are fully prepared to attack... The lesson is that first of all, we should never stop making efforts and second, we should try to strengthen the spirit of hard work and hope of those who listen to us and take orders from us."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution re ferred to the advances that Iran has made since the Revolution and stated that these advances have been made in spite of the pressures, threats and plots by the enemies. He added: "This shows that there is a constructive force in the country which overcomes all the tricks and plots by the enemies and all the problems that they create. This is obvious. Therefore, we are resourceful against the enemies. We have a lot of capabilities."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that Iran has made good progress in its rhetorical confrontation with the domineering powers of the world. He added: "Today when our government officials speak during different negotiations and meetings, when they speak through different media outlets, they make well-thought-out, comprehensive, interesting and accurate comments. One of the arenas of confrontation is rhetorical confrontation on an international level."

His Eminence said that the Zionists have dominated most of the w estern and European media outlets and added: "They change orientations with their reports. It is these media outlets that indirectly tell politicians what to say. This is the important point."

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the common propaganda moves of western and Zionist media and added: "This is one of the statements that they commonly make: ‘We are pressuring Iran in order to force it to return to the negotiating table.' Which negotiating table? When did Iran leave negotiations over different global issues? This is a deception, a propaganda trick."

His eminence reiterated that the goal of those who make such statements is to force the Iranian nation to surrender at the negotiating table. "This is Iran's answer: you are not powerful enough to force a revolutionary, resistant, insightful and aware nation to bow to your demands and greed."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stated that Europeans are still living in the colonial atmosphere of the 19th century. He said that Iran's resistance against their bullying will cause many problems for them. "Today the problem is the novel idea that the Islamic Republic has introduced to the world, which has made the arrogant powers of the world frantic."

Supreme Leader Meets with People of Esfarayen (2012/10/13)

On the fourth day of his trip to North Khorasan province, Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met with the people of Esfarayen. At the meeting, His Eminence stressed that preserving vibrancy and enthusiasm of the people is necessary for continuing the path of progress in the country, adding: "We must not allow different factors to undermine and destroy this widespread enthusiasm and vibrancy."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed the need for justice and national self-confidence and added: "Our nation is faced with obstacles in a great arena. And in this arena, our country does not feel weak. We do not feel helpless. We feel powerful. We know that we can remove all these obstacles if we make efforts... In this battle of wills, the resolve and insight of you dear people can play a determining role."

Ayatollah Khamenei stated: "Unity of our people, solidarity of our governme nt officials, cooperation between different organizations of the country and sense of responsibility of the people can help us achieve more advances."

His Eminence said that the main goal of the western news empire is to instill despair into the Iranian people and youth. "They are trying to extinguish the flames of the existing enthusiasm and vibrancy. We must not let the enemies achieve this malicious and hostile goal."

Ayatollah Khamenei stated: "It is necessary to constantly move forward. The Iranian nation has the capacity to make so much progress that it becomes a role model in the world."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the enemies of the Iranian nation have tried to instill lack of self-confidence into the minds of the Iranian people, further adding: "The enemies had convinced us that westerners were pioneers and that we had to follow them. History shows that there was a day when the opposite was correct. We used to be pioneers in the world."

Ayatollah Khamenei stated: "Our young students should try to reach such a position in the world that those who want to have access to the latest scientific findings are forced to learn Farsi."

His Eminence stressed: "Our youth should have this goal in mind and work towards it. They should be sure that this future awaits us. Our outstanding scientific, political and cultural personalities should move forward and make plans with this goal in mind and they should not become satisfied with any level of progress."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighted the necessity of national self-confidence and stated: "One of the standards of progress for a nation is having national dignity and self-confidence. I believe that as far as this standard is concerned, our nation has made a lot of progress."

His Eminence stressed: "It is Islam that has given us this sense of self-confidence. The more we become familiar with Islam and Quranic teac hings, the more this sense of national self-confidence will become."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that justice is another standard of progress and added that from an Islamic point of view, progress that is not accompanied by justice is not genuine progress.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the kind of progress that the western world has made is superficial and stressed that capitalism and liberal democracy have created a widening gap between different social classes in the west.

His Eminence said that the Islamic Republic has made a lot of progress in administration of justice. "If we compare our conditions with the conditions that existed before the Islamic Revolution, we have made progress. If we compare our conditions with the conditions of other countries with different systems of government, we have made progress. But if we compare our current conditions with what Islam has demanded from us, there is a long way to go and we need to make a l ot of efforts."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the enemies of Iran are making widespread efforts to put an end to the progress of the Iranian nation. He stressed: "Our enemies should rest assured that they will fail in all of their conspiracies, plots and deceptions, just as we have shown them since the first day of the Revolution."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the enemies of the Islamic Republic have failed to bring the Iranian nation to its knees and added that the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation have become more powerful on a daily basis over the past 33 years. He cautioned: "Of course, we must not feel too proud. I would say that becoming arrogant and neglecting the enemy's machinations will cause great dangers."

At the end of his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the need for consuming domestic products and reiterated: "It is wrong to go after foreign brands... When domestic production increases, inflation decreases, p rices go down and unemployment is reduced: all of these things are connected to one another."

His Eminence said that the people can play role in boosting domestic production by consuming domestic products. "We should choose what we want to consume from among our domestic products."

Supreme Leader Meets with Families of Martyrs and War Veterans (2012/10/13)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Saturday evening with the families of martyrs and war veterans of North Khorasan province. Speaking at the meeting, His Eminence said that just because certain people have turned their backs on the Islamic Revolution does not mean the Revolution has stopped moving forward.

Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated: "There was a day when our soldiers were fighting in the battlefields and today our youth - who did not meet our Imam (r.a.) and were not present during the Sacred Defense Era - are in the vanguard of resistance against the greed of the superpowers."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the number of people who have joined the Revolution is far larger than the number of people who have turned their backs on the Revolution. He added that today Iranian youth are as determined and aware as the youth of the Sacred Defense Era.

His Eminence stressed: "Today our society is full of brave and aware youth who are familiar with the latest developments and different political issues. They are among the people who have joined the Revolution."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that certain people misjudge the young generation. He dismissed the concerns that are voiced about the young generation and added that Iranian youth are pious and committed to the Revolution.

Supreme Leader Meets with People of Shirvan (2012/10/15)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met this morning with the people of Shirvan. Speaking at the meeting, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the enemies' failures over the past three decades and stressed that government officials should adopt a scholarly attitude to the economy, plan with foresight and introduce stable policies. "By Allah's favor, our enemies will fail in this economic confrontation with our nation, just as they failed in other areas, if our government officials pay attention to these three factors in economic development."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution described the existing political stability and tranquility as a blessing for the country and reiterated: "One of the methods that is used by the domineering and aggressive powers is to create instability in other countries."

He added: "Thanks to the religious faith of you dear people and the insight that our nati on enjoys, the Islamic Republic has managed to establish a stable country much to the disappointment of the enemies."

His Eminence said that the existing stability and tranquility in the country is an opportunity for utilizing talents and preparing the ground for the Iranian nation to compete with other countries in different areas. He added: "Our honorable people and youth have managed to show their greatness, talent and preparedness in different areas. All of these things have been achieved thanks to stability."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the domineering powers have failed to create instability in Iran, further stating: "At the beginning of the Revolution, by creating ethnic conflicts in the east and west and in the north and south, they tried to prevent our country from achieving tranquility and recovering from the turbulence that existed after the Revolution, but they failed. Afterwards, they tried to undermine our security by provoking an insane neighbor to attack our country - Saddam was truly savage, insane and dangerous. They also supported different grouplets that were active inside the country."

He reiterated: "You saw that what happened was exactly the opposite of what they wanted. The imposed war not only failed to undermine stability in the country, but it also strengthened our unity."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution criticized those who try to undermine Iran's stability and added: "I strongly advise our government officials - in the executive branch, in the legislative branch and in the judiciary - to take care not to let the ill-wishers and enemies undermine this tranquility through their plots. This tranquility in the country is the greatest manifestation of the power of our nation."

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the upcoming presidential elections in Iran and stressed: "Before and during the election, all of our government officials should focus their efforts on preserving political peace in the country. They should not let the political atmosphere of the country become turbulent."

His Eminence praised the people of Iran for their vigilance against the enemies' divisive efforts and added: "Our government officials, politicians and managers should try to preserve this stability and tranquility. They should not allow turbulence to be created in the country. Sometimes one single comment or action which is careless and out of place can create turbulence in the political atmosphere of the country. They should be very careful."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that government officials should serve the people of Iran and stated: "Our government officials should focus all their time and efforts on the affairs of our people, which is what our people fully deserve... There are many things to be done and this is a responsibility that lies on the shoulders of our government officials."

His Eminence expressed his gratitude to the people of North Khorasan for their wa rm welcome and added: "The enemies should see how determined the people are to defend the Islamic Republic. These are lessons for them. They constantly speak about the people of Iran, but apparently those who speak about the people of Iran - including American and non-American leaders - do not believe that you are the people of Iran."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: "When they speak about the people of Iran, they speak about their illusions: they say that the people of Iran are opposed to Islam and the Islamic Republic."

His Eminence criticized those who repeat the enemies' statements and stressed: "Certain people are tired themselves, but they say that the people are tired. The people are not tired."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated: "The people are present on the scene. They are prepared to work. It is necessary to prepare the ground for the people to step in. Then you will see with what motivation and determinati on the people will step in whenever they feel there is a responsibility to be fulfilled, just as they have stepped in to fulfill their responsibility today."

Elsewhere in his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the problems of the North Khorasan province and stated: "Unemployment is the essential problem in Shirvan, just like in other counties of North Khorasan province as well as other provinces throughout the country. It is necessary to make efforts to create employment opportunities."

Supreme Leader Meets with Clergy of North Khorasan Province (2012/10/10)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Wednesday night with seminarians and scholars of North Khorasan province. During the meeting, His Eminence said that the clergy are inseparable from the Islamic Republic and reiterated: "Islamic seminaries should consider themselves as soldiers of the Islamic Republic, they should make efforts for the Islamic Republic, they should be concerned about the Islamic Republic, and they should try to strengthen the Islamic Republic."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution added that the Islamic Revolution provided the clergy with a great opportunity to promote Islam. He dismissed as secular the idea that the clergy should not be involved in the affairs of the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei said that different fatwas have been issued according to which undermining the Islamic Republic is haraam. He reiterated that intelligence services of America , England and the Zionist regime are trying to promote the idea that there is a rift between the clergy and the Islamic Republic.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: "The Islamic Revolution would have never achieved victory in the absence of the clergy. This is because intellectuals and non-Islamic groups and parties lacked the capability, influence and credibility that our clergy enjoyed throughout the country."

His Eminence said that the clergy have a heavy responsibility in current conditions and reiterated: "Today the conditions in the country are like the conditions of the Battle of Ahzab during the time of the Holy Prophet (s.w.a.). All enemies of the Iranian nation have joined hands in the region and in the world in order to break the firm determination of our nation, but just as believers did not let fear and doubts enter their hearts during the Battle of Ahzab, the Iranian nation will also continue resisting the pressures by trying to incr ease its power and capabilities."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: "In the Battle of Ahzab, a number of hypocrites whose faith in God was not firm enough would criticize believers for refusing to back down, but the true companions of the Holy Prophet (s.w.a.) would tell them that they were not surprised or intimidated by the pressures and that they would continue their path."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed: "The pressures will continue as long as we refuse to give in to the demands of the enemies and the only way to resist the effect of these pressures is to become powerful in different areas."

His Eminence said that the clergy can become powerful by studying hard and reflecting on religious teachings, further adding: "Besides acquiring knowledge, the clergy should always remain committed to piety, moral purification, religious obligations, midnight prayers and recitation of the Holy Quran."

Ayatullah Khamenei: 'Ultimate objective of Iran's Islamic Revolution is progress' (2012/10/11)

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has stressed that the ultimate objective of Iran's Islamic revolution is "progress" -- progress from the point of view of Islam -- in the true Islamic sense of the word.

addressing a huge enthusiastic crowd of local people in North Khorassan province in North Eastern Iran, the Leader stressed that "progress" from the point of view of Islam, is very different to "progress” from the materialistic point of view of the West.

The Leader stressed that in the one dimensional Western logic, everything is viewed from a material point of view – and thus "progress" is seen as accruing wealth, economic progress, and progress in military power , science and technology.

But from an Islamic point of view, progress is defined in a much broader way.

Progress is multi-dimensional in Islam, and includes progress in science, in technology, in ethics, in morality, justice, progress in raising living standards, economic progress, and political independence. Progress in Islam also includes getting closer to God Almighty.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pointedly added: "Progress in its broadest sense, which includes progress in this world as well as in the Hereafter , is the ultimate objective of Iran's Islamic revolution".

Turning to Western sanctions against Iran, the Leader said Western sanctions are nothing new and they have been in place for the past 33 years. The Leader pointedly added: "The United States and the Europeans claim the sanctions are directed at Iran's nuclear energy programme, but they are lying, since Western sanctions against Iran started at a time when Iran had no functioning nuclear energy programme of any kind to speak of.

The Leader said Western sanctions are illogical, and are rooted in hostility and vengeance. He said th ose who have imposed sanctions on Iran are lying when they say sanctions will be lifted if Iran halts its nuclear activities.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pointedly added : "It is the resilience, steadfastness and independence of the Iranian nation – a blessing of Islam and the Holy Quran -- which has so angered and frustrated Westerners".

In further remarks, the Leader referred to "Western joy" because of economic difficulties in Iran . He said: "The Westerners, somewhat undiplomatically, didn't even try to hide their joy at Iran's economic difficulties, but of course, during the past year, we have all seen the peoples of Europe pour on to the streets of many European cities, and the Europeans are grappling with far more serious economic crises and problems of their own.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei pointedly added : "Iran will get through the current difficulties, because of the vigilance of the I ranian nation and Iranian officials , and Iran will bring changes to the region as well as to the wider world" .

The Leader said it is unwise of European countries to tow the US line, in America's hostilities towards Iran. The Leader added: "The Iranian nation does not have bad memories of some European countries, but these countries , because they have chosen the US line , are now hated by the Iranian nation".

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has emphasized that sending money and weaponry to those who oppose the policies of various European governments will bring about in Europe a situation rather similar to what is happening in Syria.

According to IRIB World Service, speaking on Friday, in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Syria, Wael Nader Al-Halqi, and his accompanying delegation, the Leader emphasized that giving money and weaponry to opposition groups in any country, including European countries, will result in a similar situation to what we find today in Syria. The Leader added: “If money, weapons and ammunition is given to those groups which organize protests on the streets of European capitals, then almost certainly, a situation similar to Syria will arise in those European countries".

In further remarks, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said there is no doubt that the United States and the Zionist regime of Israel are very much involved behind-the-scenes in the deplorable and painful events taking place in Syria today.

The leader pointedly added: "The Non-Aligned Movement countries have more right to get involved in finding a political solution to the Syrian crisis than either the United States, or NATO, or European countries (the EU).

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said continuation of the current situation in Syria, with mass killings of large numbers of people, is totally unacceptable. The Leader added: "The real culprits are those who have inundated Syria with weapons and ammunition, sending arms to irresponsible groups inside Syria. They are the ones who are responsible for the deplorable situation in Syria".

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei emphasized that the Syrian government should continue with its political reforms, and should not provide the so -called "opposition" with any excuses and pretexts. The Leader stressed that the Syrian government should explain what is happening in Syria to the Arab public and public opinion at large.

Leader: Main aim of NAM founders, forming an influential movement

The Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, said that the main goal of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) has been to form an influential movement for resolution of regional and international issue.

According to IRIB World Service, the Leader of Islamic Revolution, in a meeting in Tehran on Friday morning with the Indonesian Vice-President, Boediono and his accompanying delegation, referred to the ideals and capacities of the Non-Aligned Movement, while emphasizing that the aim of founders of this movement has not been to form a ceremonial establishment. In fact, these founders were after an influential movement, and currently this goal should be revived.

The Leader of Islamic Revolution added: "NAM member states, including Indonesia, which is one of its founders, should closely cooperate and activate capacities, thereby playing an influential role in regard to regional and international topics of importance."

The Leader of Islamic Revolution considered making use of experiences and progresses of NAM member states as one of the other viable measures in this movement, while pinpointing that the progresses of independent and Islamic countries have led to enmities, and one should be cautious about the conspiracies and schemes hatched by the enemies of independent and Islamic countries.

The Leader of Islamic Revolution went on to consider rifts and sectarian strife especially between Shiites and Sunnis, as one of the dangerous plots, while adding that such approaches and measures are conducted by mercenaries, with the support of a number of powers; the examples of which can be observed in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Leader of Islamic Revolution reminded that Al-Qaeda and Taliban were formed with the support of US allies in the region, and the US, under the pretext of countering them, bombards Pakistan and Afghanistan. But, the main goal is to dominate these countries.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian vice-president, for his part, termed as important the capacities of NAM member states for further influencing the international topics of importance, while adding that Indonesia aims to pave the way for peaceful co-existence and uniformity of different ethnicities and religions in this country.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the Two Worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon the greatest and trustworthy Messenger and on his pure progeny, his select companions, and all the prophets and divine envoys.

I welcome you honorable guests, the leaders and delegations representing the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement, and all the other participants of this great international summit.

We have gathered here to continue a movement with God’s guidance and assistance and to give it new life and momentum on the basis of the current conditions and needs in the world. The movement was founded almost six decades ago thank s to the intelligence and courage of a few caring and responsible political leaders who were aware of the conditions and circumstances of their time.

Our guests have gathered here from different geographical locations, far and near, and they belong to different nationalities and races with different ideological, cultural and historical characteristics, but just as Ahmad Sukarno, one of the founders of this movement said in the famous Bandung Conference in the year 1955, the basis of establishing the Non-Aligned Movement is not geographical or racial and religious unity, but rather unity of needs. At that time, the member states of the Non-Aligned Movement were in need of a bond that could safeguard them against authoritarian, arrogant and insatiable networks and today with the progress and spread of the instruments of hegemony, this need still exists.

I would like to point out another truth. Islam has taught us that in spite of the ir racial, linguistic and cultural differences, human beings share the same nature, which calls them to purity, justice, benevolence, compassion and cooperation. It is this universal human nature which – if it can safely steer away from misleading motives – guides human beings to monotheism and understanding of God’s transcendent essence.

This brilliant truth has such potential that it can form the foundation of societies which are free and proud and at the same time enjoy progress and justice. It can extend the light of spirituality to all material and worldly endeavors of humankind and it can create a paradise on earth for human beings in advance of the other-worldly paradise, which has been promised by divine religions. And it is this common and universal truth that can form the foundations of brotherly cooperation among the nations that do not share any similarities in terms of outward structures, historical background and geographical location.

Whenever international cooperation is based on such a foundation, governments will build their relationships with each other not on the basis of fear and threats, or greed and unilateral interests, or mediation of treasonous and venal individuals, but on the basis of wholesome and shared interests and more importantly, the interests of humanity. In this way, governments can relieve their awakened consciences and put the minds of their peoples at ease.

This values-based order is the exact opposite of the hegemony-based order, which has been upheld, propagandized and led by hegemonic Western powers in the recent centuries and by the domineering and aggressive government of America today.

Dear guests, today after the passage of nearly six decades, the main values of the Non-Aligned Movement remain alive and steady: values such as anti-colonialism, political, economic and cultural independence, non-alignment with any power blocs, and improving solidarity and cooperation among the member states. The realities of today’s world fall short of those values, but the collective will and comprehensive efforts to change the existing realities and achieve these values, though full of challenges, are promising and rewarding.

In the recent past, we have been witness to the failure of the policies of the Cold War era and the unilateralism that followed it. Having learnt lessons from this historical experience, the world is in transition towards a new international order and the Non-Aligned Movement can and should play a new role. This new order should be based on the participation of all nations and equal rights for all of them. And as members of this movement, our solidarity is an obvious necessity in the current era for establishing this new order.

Fortunately, the outlook of global developments promises a multi-faceted syste m in which the traditional power blocs are replaced with a group of countries, cultures and civilizations from different economic, social and political origins. The striking events that we have witnessed over the past three decades clearly show that the emergence of new powers has coincided with the decline of the traditional powers. This gradual transition of power provides the non-aligned countries with an opportunity to play a significant and worthy role on the world stage and prepare the ground for a just and truly participatory global management. In spite of varying perspectives and orientations, we member states of this movement have managed to preserve our solidarity and bond over a long period of time within the framework of the shared values and this is not a simple and small achievement. This bond can prepare the ground for transitioning to a just and humane order.

Current global conditions provide the Non-Aligned Movement with an opportunity tha t might never arise again. Our view is that the control room of the world should not be managed by the dictatorial will of a few Western countries. It should be possible to establish and ensure a participatory system for managing international affairs, one that is global and democratic. This is what is needed by all the countries that have been directly or indirectly harmed as a result of the transgression of a few bullying and hegemonic countries.

The UN Security Council has an illogical, unjust and completely undemocratic structure and mechanism. This is a flagrant form of dictatorship, which is antiquated and obsolete and whose expiry date has passed. It is through abusing this improper mechanism that America and its accomplices have managed to disguise their bullying as noble concepts and impose it on the world. They protect the interests of the West in the name of “human rights”. They interfere militarily in other countries in the name of “democrac y”. They target defenseless people in villages and cities with their bombs and weapons in the name of “combating terrorism”. From their perspective, humanity is divided into first-, second- and third-class citizens. Human life is considered cheap in Asia, Africa and Latin America, and expensive in America and Western Europe. The security of America and Europe is considered important, while the security of the rest of humanity is considered unimportant. Torture and assassination are permissible and completely ignored if they are carried out by America, the Zionists and their puppets. It does not trouble their conscience that they have secret prisons in various places on different continents, in which defenseless prisoners who have no legal representation and have not been tried in a court of law are treated in the most hideous and detestable way. Good and evil are defined in a completely one-sided and selective way. They impose their interests on the nations of the world in th e name of “international law”. They impose their domineering and illegal demands in the name of “international community”. Using their exclusive and organized media network, they disguise their lies as the truth, their falsehood as true, and their oppression as efforts to promote justice. In contrast, they brand as lies every true statement that exposes their deceit and label every legitimate demand as roguish.

Friends, this flawed and harmful situation cannot continue. Everybody has become tired of this faulty international structure. The 99 percent movement of the American people against the centers of wealth and power in America and the widespread protests of the people in Western Europe against the economic policies of their governments show that the people are losing their patience with this situation. It is necessary to remedy this irrational situation. Firm, logical and comprehensive bonds between member states of the Non-Aligned Movement can play an important role in finding a remedy.

Honorable audience, international peace and security are among the critical issues of today’s world and the elimination of catastrophic weapons of mass destruction is an urgent necessity and a universal demand. In today’s world, security is a shared need where there is no room for discrimination. Those who stockpile their anti-human weapons in their arsenals do not have the right to declare themselves as standard-bearers of global security. Undoubtedly, this will not bring about security for themselves either. It is most unfortunate to see that countries possessing the largest nuclear arsenals have no serious and genuine intention of removing these deadly weapons from their military doctrines and they still consider such weapons as an instrument that dispels threats and as an important standard that defines their political and international position. This conception needs to be completely rejected and condemned.

Nuclear weapons neither ensure security, nor do they consolidate political power, rather they are a threat to both security and political power. The events that took place in the 1990s showed that the possession of such weapons could not even safeguard a regime like the former Soviet Union. And today we see certain countries which are exposed to waves of deadly insecurity despite possessing atomic bombs.

The Islamic Republic of Iran considers the use of nuclear, chemical and similar weapons as a great and unforgivable sin. We proposed the idea of “Middle East free of nuclear weapons” and we are committed to it. This does not mean forgoing our right to peaceful use of nuclear power and production of nuclear fuel. On the basis of international laws, peaceful use of nuclear energy is a right of every country. All should be able to employ this wholesome source of energy for various vital uses for the benefit o f their country and people, without having to depend on others for exercising this right. Some Western countries, themselves possessing nuclear weapons and guilty of this illegal action, want to monopolize the production of nuclear fuel. Surreptitious moves are under way to consolidate a permanent monopoly over production and sale of nuclear fuel in centers carrying an international label but in fact within the control of a few Western countries.

A bitter irony of our era is that the U.S. government, which possesses the largest and deadliest stockpiles of nuclear arms and other weapons of mass destruction and the only country guilty of its use, is today eager to carry the banner of opposition to nuclear proliferation. The U.S. and its Western allies have armed the usurper Zionist regime with nuclear weapons and created a major threat for this sensitive region. Yet the same deceitful group does not tolerate the peaceful use of nuclear energy by independent cou ntries, and even opposes, with all its strength, the production of nuclear fuel for radiopharmaceuticals and other peaceful and humane purposes. Their pretext is fear of production of nuclear weapons. In the case of the Islamic Republic of Iran, they themselves know that they are lying, but lies are sanctioned by the kind of politics that is completely devoid of the slightest trace of spirituality. One who makes nuclear threats in the 21st century and does not feel ashamed, will he feel ashamed of lying?

I stress that the Islamic Republic has never been after nuclear weapons and that it will never give up the right of its people to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Our motto is: “Nuclear energy for all and nuclear weapons for none.” We will insist on each of these two precepts, and we know that breaking the monopoly of certain Western countries on production of nuclear energy in the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty is in the interest of a ll independent countries, including the members of the Non-Aligned Movement.

The Islamic Republic's successful experience in resistance against the bullying and comprehensive pressures by America and its accomplices has firmly convinced it that the resistance of a unified and firmly determined nation can overcome all enmities and hostilities and open a glorious path to its lofty goals. The comprehensive advances made by our country in the last two decades are facts for all to see, as repeatedly attested by official international observers. All this has happened under sanctions, economic pressures and propaganda campaigns by networks affiliated with America and Zionism. The sanctions, which were regarded as paralyzing by nonsensical commentators, not only did not and will not paralyze us, but have made our steps steadier, elevated our resolve and strengthened our confidence in the correctness of our analyses and the inborn capacities of our nation. We hav e with our own eyes repeatedly witnessed divine assistance in these challenges.

Honored guests, I deem it necessary to speak about a very important issue, which though related to our region has dimensions extending far beyond it and which has influenced global policies for several decades. This issue is the agonizing issue of Palestine. The summary of this matter is that on the basis of a horrible Western plot and under the direction of England in the 1940s, an independent country with a clear historical identity called “Palestine” has been taken away from its people through the use of weapons, killings and deception and has been given to a group of people the majority of whom are immigrants from European countries. This great usurpation – which at the outset was accompanied with massacres of defenseless people in towns and villages and their expulsion from their homes and homeland to bordering countries – has continued for more than six decades with similar crimes and continues to this very day. This is one of the most important issues of the human community.

Political and military leaders of the usurping Zionist regime have not avoided any crimes during this time: from killing the people, destroying their homes and farms and arresting and torturing men and women and even their children, to humiliating and insulting that nation and trying to destroy it in order to digest it in the haraam-eating stomach of the Zionist regime, to attacking their refugee camps in Palestine itself and in the neighboring countries where millions of refugees live. Such names as Sabra and Shatila, Qana and Deir Yasin have been etched in the history of our region with the blood of the oppressed Palestinian people.

Even now after 65 years the same kind of crimes marks the treatment of Palestinians remaining in the occupied territories by the ferocious Zionist wolves. They commit new crimes one aft er the other and create new crises for the region. Hardly a day passes without reports of murder, injury and arrests of the youth who stand up to defend their homeland and their honor and protest against the destruction of their farms and homes. The Zionist regime, which has carried out assassinations and caused conflicts and crimes for decades by waging disastrous wars, killing people, occupying Arab territories and organizing state terror in the region and in the world, labels the Palestinian people as “terrorists”, the people who have stood up to fight for their rights. And the media networks which belong to Zionism and many of the Western and mercenary media repeat this great lie in violation of ethical values and journalistic commitment, and the political leaders who claim to defend human rights have closed their eyes on all these crimes and support that criminal regime shamelessly and boldly and assume the role of their advocates.

Our standpoint is that Palestine belongs to the Palestinians and that continuing its occupation is a great and intolerable injustice and a major threat to global peace and security. All solutions suggested and followed up by the Westerners and their affiliates for “resolving the problem of Palestine” have been wrong and unsuccessful, and it will remain so in the future. We have put forth a just and entirely democratic solution. All the Palestinians – both the current citizens of Palestine and those who have been forced to immigrate to other countries but have preserved their Palestinian identity, including Muslims, Christians and Jews – should take part in a carefully supervised and confidence-building referendum and chose the political system of their country, and all the Palestinians who have suffered from years of exile should return to their country and take part in this referendum and then help draft a Constitution and hold elections. Peace will then be established.

Now I would like to give a benevolent piece of advice to American politicians who always stood up to defend and support the Zionist regime. So far, this regime has created countless problems for you. It has presented a hateful image of you to the regional peoples, and it has made you look like an accomplice in the crimes of the usurping Zionists. The material and moral costs borne by the American government and people on account of this are staggering, and if this continues, the costs might become even heavier in the future. Think about the Islamic Republic's proposal of a referendum and with a courageous decision, rescue yourselves from the current impossible situation. Undoubtedly, the people of the region and all free-thinkers across the world will welcome this measure.

Honorable guests, now I would like to return to my initial point. Global conditions are sensitive and the world is passing through a crucial historical juncture. It is anticipated that a new order shall be born. The Non-Aligned Movement, which includes almost two-thirds of the world community, can play a major role in shaping that future. The holding of this major conference in Tehran is itself a significant event to be taken into consideration. By pooling our resources and capacities, we members of this movement can create a new historic and lasting role towards rescuing the world from insecurity, war and hegemony.

This goal can be achieved only through our comprehensive cooperation with each other. There are among us quite a few countries that are very wealthy and countries that enjoy international influence. It is completely possible to find solutions for problems through economic and media cooperation and through passing on experiences that help us improve and make progress. We need to strengthen our determination. We need to remain faithful to our goals. We should not fear the b ullying powers when they frown at us, nor should we become happy when they smile at us. We should consider the will of God and the laws of creation as our support. We should learn lessons from what happened to the communist camp two decades ago and from the failure of the policies of so-called “Western liberal democracy” at the present time, whose signs can be seen by everybody in the streets of European countries and America and in the insoluble economic problems of these countries. And finally, we should consider the Islamic Awakening in the region and the fall of the dictatorships in North Africa, which were dependent on America and were accomplices to the Zionist regime, as a great opportunity. We can help improve the “political productivity” of the Non-Aligned Movement in global governance. We can prepare a historic document aimed to bring about a change in this governance and to provide for its administrative tools. We can plan for effective economic cooperation a nd define paradigms for cultural relationships among ourselves. Undoubtedly, establishing an active and motivated secretariat for this organization will be a great and significant help in achieving these goals.

Supreme Leader Meets Executive Officials (2012/08/23)

In a meeting with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his cabinet members on the occasion of Government Week, Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that economy of resistance is the only way in which the country can maintain its progress. He stated that making use of all the capacities of the state and private sectors, paying serious attention to the problems that the people are faced with in their daily lives, combating economic corruption, supporting domestic production and fighting extravagant consumption are among the requirements of an economy of resistance.

Addressing executive officials of the country, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the opportunity to render services to the people passes quickly. He called on President Ahmadinejad and his colleagues to make the best of the remaining time and reiterated: "It is possible to do very important and great things in the one year that remains from your term."

His Eminence said that President Ahmadinejad's administration has important domestic and international responsibilities to fulfill in the last year of its term. "The arrogant powers of the world are doing everything in their power to force Iran to retreat. The current government should dispel the enemies' illusion by deploying all the capacities of the country and continuing the advances."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that foreigners have failed in their plots and machinations, further adding: "Always remember that the global bullies will not stop their hostilities and that after every failure, they will go after new decisions and new actions. Therefore, it is necessary for our government officials to constantly think of adopting new measures to confront the enemies."

His Eminence said that trying to predict the enemy's plots will result in victory and reiterated that if govern ment officials can predict what decisions the enemy will make, they will be more successful in adopting appropriate measures to confront him.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the advances by the Islamic Republic, reviving the revolutionary slogans, the awakening of the regional nations and a determination to prevent Iran from becoming a role model for the regional nations have caused America and the arrogant powers to increase their hostile efforts against the Islamic Republic.

He added: "These days, certain people are saying, ‘Why do you make enemies?' But such comments originate from wrong analyses."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated: "During the time of Imam Khomeini (r.a.), we were faced with endless enmities by the arrogant powers because he would decisively defend the Revolution, Islam and Iran. This shows that whenever the people and government officials of Iran adopt firm positions, the enemy becomes more hostile. Of course, the arrogant powers will never overcome our nation."

Elsewhere in his statements, Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the existing problems in the country and stated: "The majority of these problems are related to the issues that the lower and middle classes are faced with in their daily lives and it is necessary to plan and make serious efforts in order to eliminate these problems."

His Eminence said: "Some of the issues are due to inflation. Of course, there is no shortage of essential products in the country, but it is necessary to find solutions for the inflated prices and the decrease in purchasing power."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the increase in money supply is one of the reasons behind the existing problems and stressed: "Through intellectual cooperation and reliance on knowledge and experience, find a way to control money supply and channel the excess money towards production centers."

His Eminence said that strengthening the private sector is one pillar of an economy of resistance, further stressing: "It is necessary to follow up the policies specified in Article 44 of the Constitution as carefully and meticulously as possible."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that an economy of resistance will help the country maintain its rate of progress and that it will also make the economy less vulnerable to the enemies' plots.

His Eminence said that fighting extravagant consumption plays an important role in an economy of resistance and added that both cultural and executive organizations of the country are responsible in this regard.

Ayatollah Khamenei expressed his satisfaction over the government's efforts to avoid extravagance in the executive organizations of the country and called on governme nt officials to truly support domestic production and to ban consumption of foreign products in governmental organizations.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighted the issue of unity and national solidarity and urged government officials to have unity. He added: "The scope of the responsibilities is clear and all the three branches of government should work with harmony and cooperation."

His Eminence also urged executive officials to preserve their revolutionary spirit in diplomacy and try to make the best of the events that take place in the region.

Supreme Leader Leads Eid ul-Fitr Prayers in Tehran (2012/08/19)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution led this year's Eid ul-Fitr prayers in Tehran. During the sermons, His Eminence described the recent developments in the world of Islam as unprecedented and added: "By Allah's favor, these developments, which will determine the future path of the world of Islam, will continue at this rate."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution praised the people of Iran for their massive presence in Quds Day rallies and reiterated: "This great movement will undoubtedly play a key role in the world of Islam."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that this year other Muslim nations were unified with the Iranian nation on Quds Day and added: "This year, more Muslim nations - particularly in the awakened Islamic countries - stepped into the arena of supporting Palestine and by Allah's favor, this movement will continue."

His Eminence stated that Quds Day rallies pump new b lood into the veins of the Islamic Ummah, further adding: "Considering the continued efforts that the enemies of Islam are making in order to consign the issue of Palestine to oblivion, Quds Day rallies have become very significant."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed: "The enemies of the Islamic Ummah have entered the arena with more complex machinations and with all their power in order to make these movements fail, but Muslim nations will foil the plots of the enemies."

Ayatollah Khamenei stated that it is necessary to develop a deep understanding of the events that take place and to avoid making mistakes in analysis. "Wherever America, Zionism and leaders of oppressive regimes start a movement, that movement and its orientation are undoubtedly wrong. And paying careful attention to this reality prevents mistakes in analysis."

Elsewhere in his statements, His Eminence referred to the recent earthquakes in East Azerbaijan province as bitte r and tragic, further adding: "The entire Iranian nation has been grieved by this tragic event."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the good measures that have been adopted in the quake-stricken areas and added: "The efforts should continue so that the heavier and greater responsibilities that we have towards our quake-stricken countrymen can be fulfilled well."

Ayatollah Khamenei praised the people of Iran for helping the quake-stricken people of East Azerbaijan province and reiterated: "The people of Iran have never been indifferent in the case of such tragedies, and they should continue their solidarity and their cooperation with our government officials in order to help the quake-stricken people."

His Eminence expressed hope that the efforts of government officials and the help of the people will completely cancel out the effects of the earthquake and that the quake-stricken people will witness a new and brilliant era of development an d progress.

Leader emphasizes on justice oriented outlook to Iran’s economy (2012/08/06)

The Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, has emphasized on the justice oriented outlook to Iran’s economy.

In a meeting with a thousand student elites and activists on Monday afternoon, the Leader of Islamic Revolution pointed out that the economic perspective in Iran should be based on justice and this issue is not in contrast with the 44th Tenet of the Constitution.

The Leader underlined that if the policies of Principle 44 are implemented as described, it will certainly not lead to undesirable capitalism.

Underscoring that one should be cautious so that the socialist outlook would not overcome the economic ideas, the Leader pointed out that if the policies of 44th Tenet would be implemented within the elaborated framework; they will certainly complement the justice-oriented economy.

In further remarks, the Leader pointed out that the root cau se of ever-increasing economic pressures in the West and Europe is the nature of capitalist system.

Furthermore, the Leader of Islamic Revolution referred to the resistant economy, as an economy which sets the stage for growth and development of a nation, even under pressures and sanctions.

Elsewhere, the Leader of Islamic Revolution emphasized that students should precisely take into consideration the main goal of the enemy in the soft war, which is to make changes in the calculations of Iranian people and officials. The Leader called on the students to understand this aim of the enemy, and to appropriately counter this sinister goal of the foes.

Supreme Leader Meets Government Officials (2012/07/24)

Ayatollah Khamenei the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution met Thursday evening with government officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Speaking at the meeting, which was also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, His Eminence referred to the challenges that the Islamic Republic has faced since the victory of the Islamic Revolution - including the assassinations, the ethnic conflicts, the imposed war, the sanctions, the events that took place in Tir 1378 and the post-election turmoil in 1388 - and stated: "The massive capacities and capabilities of the Iranian nation helped the Islamic Republic to successfully confront all these challenges and to become more powerful at every stage."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the enemies of the Islamic Revolution are trying to show that the Iranian nation has reached a dead end, further adding: "They openly say that it is necessary to force the Iranian government officials to revise their calculations by intensifying pressures and sanctions, but looking at the existing realities causes us not only to avoid revising our calculations, but it also causes us to continue the path of the Iranian nation with more confidence."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution mentioned examples of the existing realities, saying: "One of the realities that should not be ignored is the opposition of a few arrogant governments to the Islamic Republic and their increasing and complex pressures on the Islamic Republic."

His Eminence added: "Relying on their powerful propaganda machine, these few arrogant governments that enjoy political, economic and media capabilities, are pretending to be the international community."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: "Of course, these few bullying governments have their own followers, but if America stops supporti ng them, they are nothing and they are not even taken into consideration in global calculations."

His Eminence added: "Another reality is that the enmity of these few arrogant governments towards the Islamic Republic is rooted in the essence of the Islamic system, but they are pretending that their confrontation with the Iranian nation is because of the nuclear issue and human rights."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated: "Of course, considering the absolutely dismal track record of America, Zionism, England and the other arrogant powers in human rights, nobody believes their lies."

Ayatollah Khamenei added: "The truth is that the Islamic Revolution of the Iranian nation freed this important country from the clutches of the arrogant powers and it caused increasing motivation and awakening in the world of Islam. For this reason, by harming the Islamic Republic, they are trying to teach others a lesson so that they do not follow the Islamic Republic as their role model."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the challenges faced by the Islamic Republic are not new and added: "At a certain stage, Iranian ships used to be targeted in the Persian Gulf and our oil terminals and industrial centers were being bombarded by the enemy, but today the ill-wishers of the Islamic Republic do not have the courage to even approach Iran."

His Eminence said that the increased capabilities and confidence of the Islamic Republic in the face of the threats is another reality and stressed: "Another reality is that the opposing camp - led by America and Zionism - has grown far weaker than the past."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed: "The increased vulnerability of the Zionist regime after the events and revolutions that took place in the region, the defeats that the Zionist r egime suffered during the 33-day war in Lebanon and the 22-day war in Gaza, America's destiny in Iraq, the increasing and unending problems of America in Afghanistan and America's failure in its Middle Eastern policies are clear examples of the increasing weakness of the opposing camp."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the crisis that has afflicted western enemies of the Islamic Republic is another reality. He added: "The serious threat of economic crisis in the European Union and the eurozone, instability in several European countries, the fall of several European governments, the substantial budget deficit in America and the 99 percent movement are important events that must not be ignored."

His Eminence stressed: "The economic problems of western countries are essentially different from the economic problems of our country because our problems are like the problems of a group of climbers who are continuously moving towards the peak, but the west is like a bus that is trapped under an avalanche."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that the developments in the region and in North Africa are among the existing realities, adding: "The increased capabilities of the Islamic Republic are another crucial reality."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the population control policies and stressed the need for revising these policies. He reiterated: "In the early 1370s, implementing these policies was correct for specific reasons at that time, but it was a mistake to continue the same policies in the following years."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed: "Scientific and expert studies show that if the population control policies are continued, we will gradually suffer from aging and population decline. Therefore, our government officials should seriously revise the population control policies. And the owner of media outlets and those who speak to t he public - especially the clergy - should take action to raise public awareness in this regard."

His Eminence said that Iran's retreat and flexibility against the enemy will only make the enemy more insolent.

Ayatollah Khamenei added: "At a time when our government officials used to flatter the west and America in their statements, the person who was the personification of evil decided to label the Islamic Republic of Iran as axis of evil."

His Eminence said that Iran retreated in the nuclear issue at a certain stage, adding: "At that stage, because of the cooperation with westerners and the retreats that were made, the enemies advanced so much that I had to step in personally."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution added: "At that time, westerners became so insolent that even when our government officials became satisfied with only three centrifuges, the westerners expres sed their opposition even to that, but today we have eleven thousand centrifuges that are active in the country."

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed: "If those retreats had continued, today there would be no nuclear advances and no scientific dynamism and innovation in the country."

His Eminence said that sanctions will prove ineffective in the face of intelligent resistance. He described the economic sanctions as temporary and added: "This is because continuing these sanctions for a long time is not in the interest of western countries."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that the sanctions that have been imposed on the Islamic Republic will only benefit America and the Zionist regime, further stressing: "The other countries have either been forced to go along with sanctions or they are just doing it as a ceremonial gesture. And these conditions will not continue."

Ayatoll ah Khamenei said that 20 countries have been exempted from the oil sanctions imposed on Iran and added that certain western countries are making efforts to circumvent the sanctions. He stated that these are signs which show it is impossible to continue the current conditions. "All these realities show that it is necessary to continue the path of resistance by relying on God, taking more risks and having judgment and wisdom."

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution said that economic matters are very important for the country and its progressive movement. He stressed: "The purpose of the enemy's economic pressures in the present situation is to undermine our national growth and welfare and to create problems for the people in order to make them disappointed and isolate them from the Islamic Republic."

Ayatollah Khamenei added: "Over the past few years, it has been clear that the enemy has focused its machinations on the econo my of the country. For this reason, the slogans of the recent years - such as "Reforming the Norms of Consumption", "Intensified Effort and Labor", "Economic Jihad" and "National Production and Supporting Iranian Labor and Capital" - were introduced in order to create an economic system and organize our national movement in the economic arena."

His Eminence said that one way to counter the economic sanctions is to build an economy of resistance and explained: "Putting the people in charge of our economy by implementing the general policies specified in Article 44 of the Constitution, empowering the private sector, decreasing the country's dependence on oil, managing consumption, making the best of the available time, resources and facilities, moving forward on the basis of well-prepared plans and avoiding abrupt changes in the regulations and policies are among the pillars of an economy of resistance."

Regarding the need to manage consumption, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed: "Today moderation in consumption is a jihad-like movement and all governmental and non-governmental organizations and all the people should seriously avoid extravagance and try to consume domestically produced products."

At the end of his statements, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed the issue of unity and solidarity in the country. Addressing government officials, he said: "Fortunately the people of Iran are united and you should safeguard this unity by staying away from pointless disputes and announcing these disputes through the media."

His Eminence stressed: "If officials from the three branches of government level accusations against each other, it will be very harmful. And our government officials should know that such actions will not give them any prestige among the people."

Ayatollah Khamenei added: "The tr uth is that problems exist, but it is wrong to blame them on each other. Rather, it is necessary to solve them through unity and judgment, and this is definitely possible."

Hundreds of Iranian thinkers joined a large-scale intellectual panel discussion Wednesday night in the presence of Islamic Revolution Leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei to broach the issue of woman and family in Islam.
