<p>My attention is piqued by such a knowledgeable and preeminent author such as Marlon Sanders and I like to make sure I listen to what he has to say since he has been so successful making money on the Internet.</p>
<p>His favorite product is called <a title="Gimme My Money Now" href="http://getyourprofits.com/z/177/CD32485" target="_self">Gimme My Money Now</a> and he promotes it as being really simple because it tells you step by step how to make money the way he has done all these years.  Here are the first steps of the program:</p>

<li><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Step 3</strong></span> — Assemble a sales letter and put it up on a simple 1-page web site.</li>
<li><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Step 4</strong></span> — Sell an initial supply of the prototype product — such as an information product — and test it out using Adwords or similar as I have <a title="previously described" href="http://learn4me.com/2009/12/23/determine-costs-profit-publishing-lightning-source-part-4/" target="_blank">previously described</a>.  The goal is to get at least 1% conversion of unique visitors to buyers (1 buyer for every 100 visitors).  If you don’t, go back to Step 1 with a new idea.</li>

<p>John explains the biggest problems that web sites have with selling their products and services on the Internet.  By understanding the problems, you can correct them and make your web site more profitable:</p>

<li><strong><span style="color: #008000;">You Don’t Understand Your Product/Services Sales Process <span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">- What information do your customers need before they are in a buying state of mind?  Do they need face-to-face contact?  Do they need reassurance that you are a reliable business?  Do they need testimonials from satisfied customers?</span></span></span></strong></li>
<li><strong><span style="color: #008000;">You are Trying to Rush the Process</span></strong> — You can’t just say to a prospect: “Here is my wonderful product — now buy it!”  Your web site needs to support all the intervening steps between “Hi, I just met you” and “buy now from me.”</li>
<li><strong><span style="color: #008000;">There are Distractions on Your Web Site that Don’t Bring Prospects Closer to a Sale <span style="color: #000000;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">- Your web site needs to focus on elements that draw them closer to a buying commitment and keep tangents to a minimum.  Make your web site as simple as possible.   Remember how clean and straightforward Google’s home page is to help users focus on what they came there to do — search.  Yet Google makes a lot of money…</span></span></span></strong></li>
<li><strong><span style="color: #008000;">Your Web Site Talks More About Features than Benefits</span></strong> — People largely make buying decisions based on emotions and then back the decision up with logic — not the other way around.  Benefits (and profitable web sites that use them) almost always answer one of these important questions:

<li>Will it make me <strong><span style="color: #008000;">healthier</span></strong>?</li>
<li>Will it make me <strong><span style="color: #008000;">wealthier</span></strong>?</li>
<li>Will it make me more <strong><span style="color: #008000;">attractive</span></strong>?</li>
<li>Will it help me <span style="color: #008000;"><strong>save time</strong></span>?</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li><strong><span style="color: #008000;">Your Site Only Posts Information</span></strong> — A good web site collects information in addition to presenting information.  Try to get prospect’s contact information — especially their email information as well as permission to market to them in the future.  That way you can inform them and keep them aware of your site/brand while they are still deciding whether to buy your product/service or not.</li>
</ol>
<p>I believe correcting these problems will improve your chances for success at increasing sales on your web sites.</p>

<p>It is easy to lose a lot of money fast with AdWords, but there are tools in place to prevent the carnage. Even if you are spending only $5 a day, you should know about, use and understand how daily and monthly budgets work.</p>
<p>Daily and monthly budgets are set at the campaign level. You can change them by going into campaign settings, finding the budget fields, entering the changes and clicking “save”. I usually leave the page and then go back in to make sure the save took — probably an unnecessary step, but it is better to be safe than sorry.</p>
<p><strong>Daily Budget</strong></p>
<p>This setting lets you control how much you spend per day in the campaign. It is not an exact measurement — the AdWords system has some flexibility built in to allow for the inevitable changes in traffic volume “weather”. So your actual daily spend can be up to 20% more than your daily budget. If you do overspend on any day, though, the AdWords system will reduce your spend by the same amount you overspent at some time over the remainder of the month. If this balancing-out happens early in the month, you’ll probably never notice it. If it happens in the last few days of the month, you might.</p>
<p>The exact formula AdWords uses for the daily budget is the value of your daily budget times however many days there are in the month in question. So if your daily budget is $100, and there are 31 days in the month, you’ll spend $3100 (up to $3100). Assuming you spent exactly $100 all the prior days of the month, and then overspent on the 30th by 20%, then on the 31st AdWords would slow your ad serving so that you hit as close to $80 on the 31st as they could get you.</p>
<p>If you spend more than this formula, AdWords will credit your account for the overspend. Don’t get too excited, though — I’ve never seen an advertiser get credited for overspend in 5 years of managing PPC accounts.</p>
<p><strong>Monthly Budget</strong></p>
<p>The monthly budget is very similar to the daily budget, but instead of entering a budget mark per day, you enter it for the month. Then the AdWords system divides that monthly budget by 30.44 (the average number of days in each month) and you’ve got the old familiar daily budget again. The AdWords system will try to stick to this daily figure, but if you’ve only entered a monthly budget, the system will now allow much more fluctuation in the daily spend than would have been allowed with setting only a daily budget. So if your traffic tends to spike up and down, the monthly budget option is for you.</p>
<p>One caveat about the monthly budget — if you reduce it, you may see a significant drop in your adspend over the rest of the month. For example, if your monthly budget was $3100, and you dropped it to $2000 on the 16th of the month, for the rest of the month you would get only $30 a day in clicks. Why? Because as of the end of the 15th, you’d spent $1550. When you change your monthly budget to $2000, you have only $450 left in budget for the month, so for the remaining 15 days your daily spend is curtailed to $30 a day. To avoid this, change your monthly budget on the first day of the month.</p>
<p><strong>Advanced Trick</strong></p>
<p>If your AdWords account is profitable and you’re looking for ways to put more money into your cash machine — ie, get more clicks — try increasing your budgets by 50% to 200%. This will take off the safety measure, so you will need to know that your spending is safe because your keyword bids are correct, but opening up the budget will let the AdWords algorithm show your ads more freely. Its an easy fix to seriously increase impressions, but it may take a few days for the AdWords system to really start ramping up your impressions.</p>

She also owns the AdWords Campaign Watcher, which is an <a href="http://www.adwordscampaignwatcher.com" target="_new">AdWords tool</a> that allows users to automatically pause campaigns if their cost per conversion exceeds a set value.</p>

<p>If you haven’t heard of eHow yet consider yourself lucky that I am writing about this website. Why do I say this? Well eHow is probably by far one of the best spots to get started for an online business due to the fact of there very high rank on search engines and there very generous revenue sharing program they offer as well. Personally I signed up for eHow not knowing it’ benefit till about 5 months after signing up. I wrote 1 article and left for a while and then ended up coming back realizing that I actually made money on it monthly.</p>
<p>So eHow in a very simple term is a spot to freelance and write “How To” articles on, yup really that is it. But truthfully there are so many articles that need to be written that it will take a very long time to start getting super creative to come up with ideas. Let’s go ahead and take a look at all the great points eHow offers.</p>
<p>1.  Great start for a writer: eHow offers a great way to get your name out into the world of writing. With there very friendly relationship with search engines your articles are usually likely to end up on page 1 or 2 of the search results of any user. I would say overtime though you will notice front page, and possibly even the first result. If need check my articles out just for some proof. My eHow page.</p>
<p>2. eHow’s writers compensation program: eHow offers a very great program where you actually get paid for various reasons on your articles that you write. Now they won’t exactly tell you what earns you money dead on but they give you an idea. Stated in there FAQ section it say’s</p>
<p>Q. What is my payment based on?</p>
<p>A. You get paid per article. Your article’s earning potential can be based on a combination of several elements, including the amount of times it’s been viewed and its category. The more useful your articles are to the reader, the more money you could make. Check out our tips and guidelines, like adding photos, and eHow’s most-requested topics page for How To ideas.</p>
<p>To get the most out of understanding there writer’s compensation program I recommend stopping by there FAQ section to read up on it and become familiar with it as well.</p>
<p>3.  User friendly website: eHow offers a very simple face to there entire website. From signing up to getting started, they offer tips and tricks to make sure you get what you need. As well, they offer a FAQ area to answer many questions so that you understand it.</p>
<p>4. Networking: eHow is a great spot to really build up your list of friends that also write. It helps grow your own community so your name grows and overtime will really help your articles out and in general you. Some other key areas they offer for networking are there ability to “Create Groups”. Read my article “How to create a group on eHow” for more details on this area. As well, the ability to send messages inside the eHow network.</p>
<p>5. Personal profile page: Your profile page on eHow rocks in my opinion. It offers a ton of updated information such as articles written, earnings for the current month, article views, featured articles, notes from friends, and favorite articles. Be on the look out as well for more information added to make your home page more user friendly.</p>
<p>6. Guaranteed to earn: I know guarantees can be tough to throw out there but truthfully it almost seems impossible not to earn off this website with a little effort.</p>
<p>Remember, this is going to be a website where you can get a nice start at working at home for a long term. Just remember to keep writing articles that are beneficial, and as well to promote them.</p>

</p><p>I’ve <a title="previously written" href="http://learn4me.com/2009/10/21/website-tutorial-tips-for-choosing-a-domain-name/" target="_blank">previously written</a> about selecting a good name for your site, and have recently found additional information about good domains that I wanted to share with you.  These ideas come from Marcia Yudkin, an expert at coming up for good names for companies, products, and tag lines.  Marcia’s web site is located at: <a title="http://www.NamedatLast.com" href="http://www.NamedAtLast.com" target="_blank">http://www.NamedatLast.com</a>.</p>
<ol>
<li>A good domain name is <span style="color: #008000;"><strong>pronounceable — </strong><span style="color: #000000;">Can you say it out loud without getting tongue-tied?  The name needs to work well without capital letters or special characters of any kind.   Think about how easily you could give someone the name over the phone.  If they can pick up on the name without having it repeated to them, you have a potentially good name. </span><strong><br />
</strong></span></li>
<li>A good domain name is <span style="color: #008000;"><strong>spellable — </strong><span style="color: #000000;">Try to pick names that are easily spelled.  Avoid combining words in a way that letters are doubled and/or repeated.  For example, www.theelfshelf.com might be a problem since the “ee” could also be misheard or mistyped with one “e” .</span><strong><br />
</strong></span></li>
<li>A good domain name is <span style="color: #008000;"><strong>memorable — </strong><span style="color: #000000;">there are a lot of short domain names available like yxxft.com, but you should not choose them because they are difficult to remember.   It is better to have a longer name like NamedatLast.com is more likely to be remembered by your perspective clients.</span><strong><br />
</strong></span></li>

<p>Here are some secrets for coming up with domain names that are not already taken:</p>
<ol>
<li><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>What results can you focus on?</strong></span> Again, NamedatLast.com is a good example of this since it focuses on finally coming up with a good name after trying for a long time to come up with one.</li>
<li><strong><span style="color: #008000;">Can you come up with a pun for the name?</span></strong> Marcia sites the example of Sitesfaction.com for a play on the word satisfaction for a site design company.</li>
<li><strong><span style="color: #008000;">How about slang?</span></strong> For example, Jingaring.com might be a good name for a web site that sells ring tones for cell phones.</li>
<li><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>Maybe something symbolic?</strong></span> Maybe I should have chosen a name like DollarSymbols.com for this site’s name?  Anyway, you get the picture.</li>
<li><span style="color: #008000;"><strong>How about a variation on a real word or phrase?</strong></span> Probably everyone knows about Google’s name being a variation of the word googol, an extremely large number.  The namely really fits them, especially now that they index almost countless web sites at incredibly fast speeds.</li>
</ol>

</p><p>In <a title="part one" href="http://learn4me.com/2009/12/15/lightning-source-books-on-demand-part-1/" target="_self">Part One</a> I discussed how we determined one-time costs to publish our gluten-free cookbook called <a title="Gluten-Free with Love" href="http://www.glutenfreeluv.com/" target="_self">Gluten-Free with Love</a> using Lightning Source.   In <a title="part two" href="http://learn4me.com/2009/12/16/lightning-source-books-on-demand-part-2/" target="_blank">Part Two</a> I talked about how much it will cost to print each book.  In <a title="Part Three" href="http://learn4me.com/2009/12/18/lightning-source-books-on-demand-part-3/" target="_self">Part Three</a> I went into more detail about determining price and calculating profit from your book sales.  In this part I would like to delve into how you can use <a title="Google Adwords" href="http://adwords.google.com" target="_blank">Google Adwords</a> to advertise your book on a pay per click basis.</p>
<p>You are probably already familiar with Google Adwords but in case you are not, Google Adwords are the “Sponsored Links” ads that appear on Google Search Results pages (as well as on their ad partner sites).   Adwords give you the capability of creating those ads and having them appear when users search for keywords related to your ad.</p>
<p>You bid a certain amount of money for each time a user clicks on your ad and in return Google sends (hopefully) highly relevant traffic to the web site where you are selling your book.  Learn more about Google Adwords at their <a title="tutorial site" href="http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/" target="_blank">tutorial site</a>.</p>
<p>Here are techniques for figuring out how much to bid for your Adword ad and how to calculate your expenses and profits from your book sales.</p>
<p>First, determine how much profit you make on each sale.  For example, for each <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0982459408?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=glutfreewithl-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0982459408">Gluten-Free With Love</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=glutfreewithl-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0982459408" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> book sale we retain about $6.08 in profit (as explained in <a title="Part Three" href="http://learn4me.com/2009/12/18/lightning-source-books-on-demand-part-3/" target="_blank">Part Three</a>), since Amazon.com pays Lightning Source our wholesale price of $10.97 and deducts their printing costs of $4.89:</p>
<p>Wholesale Price ($10.97) minus Lightning Source Printing Fees ($4.98) equals $6.08</p>
<p>The profit is really gross profit since it doesn’t take into account advertising costs.  When determining your advertising budget, think about how much net profit you would like to make after advertising costs.  We decided we need to make at least $2 per book to make it worth our while.  So, our total advertising can’t exceed $4.08.</p>
<p>Gross Profit ($6.08) minus Net Profit ($2) = Maximum Ad cost per book ($4.08)</p>
<p>Now estimate a click to buy ratio — in other words, take an “educated” guess as to how many people will buy after clicking your ad.  Our original estimate for our book was that one in fifteen clicks would result in a sale.  Adjust your ratio accordingly.  You will probably have a better idea after you have been advertising awhile and be better able to estimate future sales.</p>
<p>Your click to buy ratio will vary depending how good your “landing site” (your book selling web site that Google Adwords sends clicks to) and how well you target your ad to your audience.   Try to pick ad keywords that are as specific and targeted for your book as possible but generate enough clicks to make sales.  Google’s Adword tutorial previously mentioned explains more about how to set up a highly relevant keyword ads that should increase your click to buyer ratio, assuming you have a good product that people want to buy.</p>
<p>Based on your click to buy ratio, you can calculate the maximum bid per click that you can afford.  In our case, it is $0.27/click.</p>
<p>Max cost Ad cost per book ($4.08) times click to buy ratio (1/15) = $0.27/click</p>
<p>Your keyword bids will need to be at or below this maximum amount in order to retain your net profit goal.</p>
<p>I recommend setting a maximum daily amount for your Adword campaign to:</p>
<ol>
<li>test out your ad</li>
<li>guage the market demand for your book</li>
<li>keep your costs under control</li>
</ol>
