How to get the best web hosting provider?

After having some bad nightmare experiences with web hosting, I'm writing this post to tell you some basic fundamentally important things you should consider before buying a web space. We don't make websites to let them sit on our own computers: we set them free on the web. While it's often more fun to create the website than to worry about hosting it, web hosting isn't a decision you should make lightly.

If some of you wanna know about my bad experiences, I can tell you that in one word. One word?? yes! one word, "GoDaddy". It's possible that some lucky guys has good experience with GoDaddy but I didn't. I took the decision of choosing a web host lightly. A developer like me or anyone else invests or like to invest time in making the web-application, rather than worry about hosting and wasting precious time sending emails and contacting support staff of the hosting provider.
So I recommend you to consider following important features in a web host:-

Amount of Storage

It's the primary thing you want from a web host, "web space". how much data you can store? How much is enough space? these are the important questions you should consider. "How much data?" For most small and medium web sites, you'll find that several gigabytes should be plenty of storage. Some hosts may offer "unlimited storage", don't fall for "unlimited storage", read the fine print.If you read the fine print (usually, the Terms and Services) you'll find that it's unlimited until you go over the "normal site usage." If you think you might be close to or over whatever "normal" is, make sure you know what you can use before buying … or go with a host that sets clear limits.I prefer the second type of hosts who sets clear limits.

Amount of Bandwidth

When looking for a web host, you'll often see storage and bandwidth hand in hand. What is bandwidth? It's the amount of data that your host will let you and your visitors upload and download (cumulatively) in a given month. Say your website is 5 megabyte of data and your monthly bandwidth is 1GB. At the beginning of the month, you upload the entire site; now you've used up 5 MB of bandwidth. If a visitor to your site views every page, they will have downloaded 5MB of data. That means you can have up to 199 visitors in that month (assuming each visitor views your whole site). After that, your web host will either not allow any more visitors, or (more likely) charge you extra per MB. Just like storage, some hosts offer "unlimited" bandwidth; again, don't fall for "unlimited", find out the limits or choose a host that sets the bar where all can see it.

Domains and Sub-domains

There's always a good chance that if you're running a website, after a while you'll like to run another one on either a new domain or sub-domain. So make sure your hosting provider will let you host multiple domains. Often, there will be a limit on how many domains you can have on one account; make sure it will accomodate you! Usually, there will be a section in the admin panel for adding your domains and choosing which sub-folders each one will point to. The same is true for sub-domains. I have observed a few variants of how it's done. For eg. In GoDaddy you have a main application hosted on root and other domains are hosted on sub-folders. This sort of management really sucks.

Email Accounts and Features

Many web hosts also offer email account for your domains. You'll want to know how many email accounts they'll let you set up; also, don't forget to check out their selections for receiving that mail. Do they have a webmail interface? Multiple ones that you can select from? How about integration with Google Apps (for the Gmail interface)? Can you get your mail in your client of choice via IMAP, or do they only offer POP?

Database Support

Now-a-days, even small websites seem to have a database on the back end. You'll want to make sure you can use the type of database you're comfortable with. Most hosts today offer MySQL; that's probably enough for most people, but if you’d prefer PostsgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, or another flavour, don’t settle for anything less. Remember, if they aren’t advertising it, they probably don’t offer it!

Framework Support and Easy-Install

A lot of web hosts offer support for popular frameworks, blogging systems, or CMSes. It's always nice when your web host offers a one-click install (or at least a super easy set-up) for WordPress or your CMS of choice. If hosting provider doesn't support some common installers like wordpress and few CMSes like Drupal etc., Installing these applications can take some time for eg. to install wordpress you'll need to download wordpress and unzip it and upload it on server, provide database preferences and install. With One click installers this becomes really easy. I hope many hosts might have these one click installers. So check for this feature and it'll be surely useful.

Control Panel

It's probably one of main feature you'll be interacting with everyday. I've seen the worst Control Panel, GoDaddy. Please make sure that your hosting provider has proper documentation of the control panel and has an easy to use control panel. Some hosting providers provide cPanel which is really a good control panel and some provide their own. Which can be better than cPanel.To check this out, watch their videos of cPanel(if available) or see documentation and some provides demo login. make sure you'll be able to use their control panel.

Tech Support

After wasting a lot of days sending emails to my previous host GoDaddy, and receiving some computer generated answers I can tell that please make sure that your web host has good Tech Support( Tech support means some technical guys will answer and respond to your requests rather than a person having a manual and types out of that manual to you). So Tech Support is very important: find out exactly what your prospective host offers for tech support: can you phone them? At what times? Do they have a support email address? A ticket system? What's their promised response time? How about a live chat? Do they have a wiki or library of help articles / tutorials? Do they have Q&A Community or Forum? Don’t choose a host until you know exactly what support they offer; you'll be happy for it later, trust me!

Shell Access

If you're a little more advanced, you might want to consider choosing a host that offers shell access: that's logging into your server from the command line over SSH. I really loved this feature, say you need to delete/rename a lot of files in a directory, you can easily do that using ssh. You'll be able to securely copy files up and down, change file permissions for whole groups of files quickly and easily, and perform a multitude of other tasks. But use this very carefully. If you want this feature, you'll know all that you do with it!

.htaccess Files

Here's another important one: you'll want the ability to add your own .htaccess files to your directories. What's a .htaccess file? It's a configuration file used by Apache server. You can use them to password protect directories, re-write URLs, redirect pages, compress output, set cache and other settings and more.

Language Support

This should go without saying, but make sure the host you plan to choose offers support for the server-side languages you want to use. If you plan to pick up Ruby on Rails in the next few months, you probably want to see it on the list of supported frameworks. If you want to use Django, make sure there's Python support. Don't lock yourself into having PHP as your only option (unless you're sure that's all you'll ever want or need!).

Site Backup

Don't think that your web host is any less suseptible to data loss than your own computers; remember, servers are just big computers that everyone can read files from! What backup options, if any, does your host provide? You'll want to back up both your site files and databases. If they don't offer backup, figure out how you'll be able to do it yourself: this might be one of the places that shell access and cron come in handy!

Extra Application Support and Installers

We already talked about content management systems, but sometimes you'll want a something more. Several hosts offer set-ups for social features like forums, bulletin boards, forums, mailing lists. If you'll be running an online store, some hosts offer setups for eCommerce solutions.

Up-to-Date

If you can, find out what software versions the host you are considering offers. Some hosts aren't quick to upgrade to the latest offering, while others will let you choose which version you want. There are few things worse than signing up for a year of hosting only to discover your host is running PHP 4.x (yes, I’ve made that mistake).

Up-Time

Make sure that your host provides almost 100% up-time and check whether they mention that which servers are down and why and they're working to improve and solve issues and in how much time.

Switching Tabs in Web browsers

This tip will save you a lot of tab switching time. Many a times you want to switch tabs or go to a specific tab in a browser...but you most probably going to use mouse or touch-pad to do that. Tab switching can be done by keyboard also. There are there ways to do that

Use Ctrl+Tab key to switch between tabs in browser.

Use Ctrl+numeric_keys to switch between tabs. That is, for example you have opened four tabs in browser and you currently browsing in first tab and want to switch to fourth tab, you can do so by pressing Ctrl+4.

If you are using Chromium based browsers like Google chrome or Rockmelt, you can install a extension called Vimium from chrome's web store.

Prefix Temporary Download Filenames with "Delete"

This tip makes it easier to clean your download folder with a simple filename tip:

I often download files just for the purpose of printing or quickly reviewing or reading, and often don't need to keep the file on my system. However I am not great about trashing these downloaded files right away, and often spend time cleaning these files up days (or weeks) later. Of course, by that time I can't remember what the file is, so I have to open it and confirm that I don't need it, and thus the cleanup process can often take some time.

Recently I started prefixing the name of these unwanted files with 'DELETE' when I download the file. Now when I perform my Cleaning I can delete the files without having to spend time figuring out whether to file or discard.

I hop this tip will help make you cleaning your download folder or deleting files which you don't need later.

If you’re like me, you probably use Google many times a day. Most probably it’s your home page. I use Google Instant. If You are not using ‘Google instant’ I recommend you to use it. set the following url as your home page.

If your current use of Google is limited to typing a few words in, and changing your query until you find what you’re looking for, then I’m here to tell you that there’s a better way – and it’s not hard to learn. On the other hand, if you are a technology geek, and can use Google like the best of them already, then I suggest you bookmark this article of Google search tips.You’ll then have the tips on hand when you are ready to pull your hair out in frustration when watching a neophyte repeatedly type in basic queries in a desperate attempt to find something.

Search Exact Phrase("")

Some times you want the result to be very exact and don’t want to waste your time in irrelevant searches. Lets say you want to search for a book on Java programming and you know the exact name of the book, then you should include the name of the book in double quotes e.g.

Search :”Stay connected with your friends on Facebook and Twitter”

the search engine will give exact matching results which include the given query or phrase in their title.

Exclude Words(-)

Lets say you want to search for content about some topic but you want to exclude any results that contain the term which you don’t want in the results. To do this, simply use the "-" sign in front of the word you want to exclude.

For example, in the query[ anti-virus software ], the minus sign is used as a hyphen and will not be interpreted as an exclusion symbol; whereas the query[ anti-virus -software ] will search for the words 'anti-virus' but exclude references to software. You can exclude as many words as you want by using the - sign in front of all of them, for example [ jaguar -cars -football -os ].

Search: Email marketing –bulk mail

The search engine will show the results which includes the term email marketing but not the term bulk mail

Site Specific Search(site:)

Even if the site doesn’t support a built-in search feature, you can use Google to search the site for your term. Simply use the "site:example.com" modifier. Lets say you want to find the post about color picker tool for webmasters and designers in my blog, type the following query :

you can also search in certain specific domain e.g.

Search : India site:.gov

Similar Words and Synonyms(~)

Let’s say you are want to include a word in your search, but want to include results that contain similar words or synonyms. To do this, use the "~" in front of the word.

Search: "Email Marketing" ~study

Either/or(|)

Google normally searches for pages that contain all the words you type in the search box, but if you want pages that have one term or another (or both), use the OR operator -- or use the "|" symbol (pipe symbol) to save you a keystroke.

Search: internet marketing OR advertising

Search: internet marketing | advertising

Note that OR has to be in uppercase. don’t confuse use pipe symbol.

Specific Document Types( filetype:)

If you’re looking to find results that are of a specific type, you can use the modifier "filetype:". For example, you might want to find only PowerPoint presentations related to internet marketing.

Wildcard(*)

The *, or wildcard, is a little-known feature that can be very powerful. If you include * within a query, it tells Google to try to treat the star as a placeholder for any unknown term(s) and then find the best matches. For example, the search [ Google * ] will give you results about many of Google's products (go to next page and next page -- we have many products). Note that the * operator works only on whole words, not parts of words.

Use the "define:" operator to get a quick definition. [define:dumb] will give you a whole host of definitions from different sources, with links.

Calculator

The next time you need to do a quick calculation, instead of bringing up the Calculator applet, you can just type your expression in to Google.

Movies(movie:)

Use the "movie:" operator to search for a movie title along with either a zip code or city and state to get a list of movie theatre in the area and show times.

Music(music:)

The "music:" operator returns content related to music only.

Well, I suggest not to use an extension or toolbar as I personally found them irritating rather than doing any good they irritates you. So now we have 2 solutions and equally like them and use them almost on daily basis.

Hidden Truth behind The Taj Mahal (Tejo Mahalaya)

The Controversy Surrounding the Origins of the Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal, located near the Indian city of Agra, is one of the world's greatest architectural treasures. The almost supernatural beauty of the Taj Mahal and its grounds transcends culture and history, and speaks with a voice of its own to visitors from all over the world of feelings that are common to all humanity.

There are two stories of how the Taj came to be.

The Taj's Love Story

It has been called the most beautiful temple in the world, despite the fact that it was built at the cost of much human life. The Taj Mahal is a real monument of one man's love for a woman. The story is a sad one, told many times. But it never hurts to tell it again.

In 1631, when his wife died in childbirth, the emperor Shah Jahan brought to Agra the most skilled craftsmen from all Asia and even Europe, to build the white marble mausoleum that is the Taj Mahal. He intended to build a black marble mausoleum for himself, and the link between the two was to be a silver bridge. This fantastic plan suffered a dramatic and permanent setback when the Shah himself died.

Its stunning architectural beauty is beyond description, particularly at dawn and at sunset when it seems to glow in the light. On a foggy morning, it looks as though the Taj is suspended in mid-air when viewed from across the Jamuna river.

This is, of course, an illusion. The Taj stands on a raised square platform with its four corners truncated, forming an unequal octagon. The architectural design uses the interlocking arabesque concept, in which each element stands on its own and perfectly integrates with the main structure. It uses the principles of self-replicating geometry and a symmetry of architectural elements.

If you don't want the huge crowds to distract you from your view, try arriving just as it opens or is about to close. A few minutes alone in the perpetually echoing inner sanctum will reward you far more than several hours spent on a guided tour. Especially if your tour guide is Murbat Singh, who makes it his job to find a new comic slant on the Taj story every time he tells it.

To really do the Taj Mahal justice, you should plan to spend at least a full day in the grounds, to see this stunning piece of architecture at dawn, midday, and at dusk. The colours and atmosphere of the gardens and the Taj itself constantly change throughout the day. Under moonlight the marble glows.

The Taj's Other Story

If you have ever visited the Taj Mahal then your guide probably told you that it was designed by Ustad Isa of Iran, and built by the Moghul Emperor, Shah Jahan, in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Indian children are taught that it was built in 22 years (1631 to 1653) by 20,000 artisans brought to India from all over the world.

This story has been challenged by Professor P.N. Oak, author of Taj Mahal: The True Story, who believes that the whole world has been duped. He claims that the Taj Mahal is not Queen Mumtaz Mahal's tomb, but an ancient Hindu temple palace of Lord Shiva (then known as Tejo Mahalaya), worshipped by the Rajputs of Agra city.

In the course of his research, Oak discovered that the Shiva temple palace had been usurped by Shah Jahan from then Maharaja of Jaipur, Jai Singh. Shah Jahan then remodelled the palace into his wife's memorial. In his own court chronicle, Badshahnama, Shah Jahan admits that an exceptionally beautiful grand mansion in Agra was taken from Jai Singh for Mumtaz's burial. The ex-Maharaja of Jaipur is said to retain in his secret collection two orders from Shah Jahan for the surrender of the Taj building.

The use of captured temples and mansions as a burial place for dead courtiers and royalty was a common practice among Muslim rulers. For example, Hamayun, Akbar, Etmud-ud-Daula and Safdarjung are all buried in such mansions.

Oak's inquiries begin with the name Taj Mahal. He says this term does not occur in any Moghul court papers or chronicles, even after Shah Jahan's time. The term 'Mahal' has never been used for a building in any of the Muslim countries, from Afghanistan to Algeria.

'The usual explanation that the term Taj Mahal derives from Mumtaz Mahal is illogical in at least two respects. Firstly, her name was never Mumtaz Mahal but Mumtaz-ul-Zamani,' he writes. 'Secondly, one cannot omit the first three letters from a woman's name to derive the remainder as the name for the building.'

Taj Mahal is, he claims, a corrupt version of Tejo-mahalaya, or the Shiva's Palace. Oak also says that the love story of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan is a fairy tale created by court sycophants, blundering historians and sloppy archaeologists. Not a single royal chronicle of Shah Jahan's time corroborates the love story.

Furthermore, Oak cites several documents suggesting that the Taj Mahal predates Shah Jahan's era:

Professor Marvin Miller of New York took samples from the riverside doorway of the Taj. Carbon dating tests revealed that the door was 300 years older than Shah Jahan.

European traveller Johan Albert Mandelslo, who visited Agra in 1638 (only seven years after Mumtaz's death), describes the life of the city in his memoirs, but makes no reference to the Taj Mahal being built.

The writings of Peter Mundy, an English visitor to Agra within a year of Mumtaz's death, also suggest that the Taj was a noteworthy building long well before Shah Jahan's time.

Oak also points out a number of design and architectural inconsistencies that support the belief that the Taj Mahal is a typical Hindu temple rather than a mausoleum.

Many rooms in the Taj Mahal have remained sealed since Shah Jahan's time, and are still inaccessible to the public. Oak asserts they contain a headless statue of Shiva and other objects commonly used for worship rituals in Hindu temples.

Fearing political backlash, Indira Gandhi's government tried to have Oak's book withdrawn from the bookstores, and threatened the Indian publisher of the first edition with dire consequences.

The only way to really validate or discredit Oak's research is to open the sealed rooms of the Taj Mahal, and allow international experts to investigate.

If Prof. Oak's research is true and it's made by an Indian King then we should not give credit to a foreign Mughal Emperor for building this beautiful marble attraction and wonder of the world.

Type Without Touchpad Interference

When I type in any editing program and by accident my thumbs touch the touchpad, you know what happens then and I really found this interference by touchpad irritating, I hope you feel the same way.So I started to search for some solution and I found it.Now you do not need to worry a bit because you can use autohotkey script given below or download the preventTouchpadInterfere.exe from the link given at the end of this post.

How to apply this solution:-

Option1 :download the preventInterfere.exe from the link given at the end of the post and double click it.what it does is:it prevent the touchpad interfere for 600ms after pressing any key i.e it disable the trackpad for 600ms.so this way you can type smoothly in any editing program and also you can use touchpad. I recommend is :download and use it.
option2 :Install autoHotkey. Create a new autohotkey script(It will have .ahk extension.).
Now open the script in any text-editor(I recommend Notepad++)and paste the following code

In this post I'm going to share some pictures which will create some illusion when you watch these. The reason behind these is human mind, human mind some times can't differetiate between colors and shapes. Relativity some time also creates illusion. Cognitive science can illustrate the facts of these illusions.
To experience the illusion, watch these pictures SHARPLY.

Parallel Lines:

The vertical zigzag patterns disrupt our horizontal perception.

Rotating Wheels

The circles appear to rotate when you move your head closer and further away from the screen while looking at the dot in the center. Our peripheral vision interprets the relative increase or decrease of the image in the retina as rotational motion of the slanted lines.

The first time I saw these optical Pictures I thought they were moving but they are not, if you look at them closely they are drawn perfectly that it creates an illusion that looks like they’re moving in circles. In fact these pictures are built from an Optical Imagery graphics making our eyes and mind confuse that creates a continuous motion out of the steady object.

The image below consists of circles formed from alternating black and white squares angled at 15 degrees relative to the tangent of the circles. The circles appear to form helical patterns because the squares in each of the adjacent concentric circles incline in opposite directions.

Hello...I forgot to tell you about one more exciting and very very useful tool for web applications and graphics developer.As you might know in previous post I told you about FeeWhee; on the same website of Nattyware; I found another useful tool(a color picker tool).I personally used it, loved it probably because as a web application developer, I know how useful it can be to know the perfect combination of colors for graphics or website designing.

Pixie is a color picker made for Web designers, graphic artists and anybody who works with images and colors.It has a very small size(11kb) and runs smoothly.It is very useful color picker program.I found it probably the most useful color picker program.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows XP Home/Pro, Microsoft Windows Vista, Windows 7

INSTALLATION

This is a portable edition of Pixie. It does not require installation.Simply copy the executable file to any convenient location and run it directly from there.

HOW TO RUN IT

Run it, simply point to a color and it will tell you the hex, RGB, HTML, CMYK and HSV values of that color. You can then use these values to reproduce the selected color in your favorite programs. Pixie will also show the current coordinates of your mouse pointer.

Get transparent windows and resize windows by just scrolling the mouse even on Windows XP

Hello dear visitors,
Today I found a nice utility over the internet and i liked it and that's why i am now sharing it with you.
I have Windows XP installed on my desktop and Windows 7 on my Vaio notebook. I always wanted to see my XP windows to become transparent. I wanted my windows to be resized by scrolling the mouse rather than finding edges and corners to resize the window. Feewhee is a tiny, no-footprint utility that uses 900 KB of memory when running, and it runs fairly smooth, too.

How to run it
after downloading the .exe file from the link given at the end of the post.double click on the file to run it.

How to use it
for resizing the windows:Hover your cursor over a window title bar, then scroll up or down.
you will see that now you can resize as you wish.
for turning the window transparent:Hover your cursor over a window title bar, then scroll up or down with SHIFT key pressed.You will see that now you can adjust the transparency as you wish.the window becomes more transparent or opaque.

That's all Feel the Wheel/Feewhee does, but that's pretty handy for anyone who needs smaller windows or occasional transparency.

The Memories of Alzheimer's Patients accessed using Music(Transcendental Tunes)

As this blog is about sharing exciting things or news with you guys.There is a good news for the alzheimer's desease; The Memories of Alzheimer's Patients can be accessed using Music (Transcendental Tunes).Transcendental Tunes combines RFID technology (in the form of a golden, translucent gem) and a retro-looking wooden audio device to play digital music that releases the memories held captive by the mind in Alzheimer's patient.

The concept is built under the premise that those with Alzheimer's don't lose their memories, they just can't access them in other words they are just unable to retrieve stored information.It takes advantage of the Medial Prefrontal Cortex—one of the last places affected by the illness—which is in charge of familiar memories, music, and emotion. The patient's care partner chooses a song (stored in a metallic orb that acts as an RFID antenna) to connect himself with the Alzheimer's patient, and when the song is played, the pathway to their memories of the care partner should open up.

A Note About Alzheimer's Desease

Alzheimer's disease (AD), also called Alzheimer disease, Senile Dementia of the Alzheimer Type (SDAT) or simply Alzheimer's, is the most common form of dementia. This disease was first described by German psychiatrist and neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer in 1906 and was named after him. Generally, it is diagnosed in people over 65 years of age, although the less-prevalent early-onset Alzheimer's can occur much earlier. In 2006, there were 26.6 million sufferers worldwide. Alzheimer's is predicted to affect 1 in 85 people globally by 2050.
