1. Sign up and fill out your profile.  This helps companies know which demographic you are and what product test will be right for you.  (I like to sign up with several different companies to get more opportunities to test products)

2. Check your email box daily for product testing invites.  Some invites won't tell you until the end of the survey to test their products, so complete all survey invites.

3. Product test will be sent to your home for you to try out.

4. A survey will be sent to you after you've tested the product.

5. After survey is complete, you'll be paid for your time and opinion.  Also you'll be able to keep the product too!

I told y'all that I wanted to see if it's possible for me to make $100,000 with blogging.  Last year I made over $70k and wanted to up my goal.  If I didn't make my goal, I was fine with whatever I made, as long as I make enough money to make a living blogging because I was transitioning making blogging my full-time job.

Wow!  Just wow!  I have to give God all the praises!  This is truly incredible.  Who'd think that a hobby would turn into a full-time business?   




What helped was being consistent with it and not following trends.  Just being myself and writing what I'm passionate about made blogging not feel like a job.




As you all know, I'm an old school blogger.  When I first started blogging back in 2008, there weren't brands out there sponsoring posts. However, affiliate marketing was just being introduced.  Thanks to Squidoo (now closed) for their writer's boot camp, top internet marketers trained me on how to make money with my writing by joining affiliate programs.  Also, they trained me on the art of story-telling, not sounding like a boring robot trying to make a buck.




90 percent of my income is through affiliate marketing programs.  I hate to do sponsored posts of brands that I don't even believe in.  Readers will catch on fast and will no longer return.  Also, you can get burned out doing sponsored posts all the time just to make money.  If you have to go the sponsored posts route, try to work with brands as a paid ambassador doing several posts for them, instead of one-off posts.




Being a blogger is very hard work, but I did have help with growing my business by hiring a virtual assistant, having paid writers, and paying for scheduled social media posting program called HootSuite.  With any business, you can't do everything yourself.  




Having a niche is important with blogging.  You want to become an expert in your niche, so you become the go-to person about the topic.   Just writing about a certain topic can get boring over time, but what helped me was sticking to my niche for a few years and then changing my blog over to lifestyle topics, yet still blogging about my niche from time to time.  I rank the first page on Google for my keywords even with the changes.




Keeping up with a schedule of when you post helps too.  Don't just post just the sake of posting, make sure you're writing quality posts.  Put it this way, is the post you're writing about make you proud to push the publish button?




Don't compare yourself with other bloggers.  Everyone's journeys are different, and everyone will have their time to shine as long as they work hard at achieving their blogging goals.




Make sure to respond to your readers.  Readers feel appreciated when you respond back to them. I hate it when I go on blogs, leave a comment, and the blog owner doesn't respond back.  I know there are bloggers with a lot of engagement, and it's hard to return a comment to everyone, but, at least, make an effort.  This includes answering reader's emails.




I have seen this a lot lately, bloggers telling about their next move of what they're doing with their blog.  Stop!  People steal ideas!  Keep what you do to yourself and hit it with them when you do it.  At least, you'll be the first one doing it.




Before I go, be careful of all these fly by night e-courses, so called experts of blogging and consultations.  I've been seeing this kind of people popping up every single day, looking to make a quick buck off of newbies trying to start blogging.  Do your research first before investing in these.  Trust me, I've been burned out of $500, don't be a victim!

Hey yall!  Another month in the books!  In August, I felt like I was going 100 miles an hour with all the things I had to do like work, blogging, back to being on a strict school routine, etc.  I’m so exhausted but I’m grateful I was able to find time for me even though it was for one day.



So, nothing much really going on with me when it comes to blogging, still working on creating seasonal blog posts for the fast approaching holiday season.  4th Quarter is here and getting those holiday posts done now and scheduled will free up my time so I can enjoy the holidays with my family.  This is what I did last year and it felt great that I could step away from my blogs.



August was my best month ever when it comes to my earnings and I’m very proud of my accomplishments!  I would’ve never thought I would be making so much from my blogs, truly incredible!

Guess what!  You all know that I’m resigning from my job at the end of the year.  Well, my boss knows about my blog and she is so proud of me!  I was in total shock because I thought I would get fired for it.  She loved my blog and couldn’t believe all the things I got to do because of my blog.  She was very impressed that I turned my blog into a successful business.  I’m really going to miss my job because it wasn’t just a job; it was like working with my family.  This is why I enjoy working for small businesses; you’re not just another number with bosses who doesn’t even know who you are.




Like I mentioned before, I’m going to stop sharing my income reports so this will be my last.  However, I will share my 2015 totals like I promised to see if I succeeded my goal of making $100,000. It’s looking very promising, so stay tuned!

Hey yall!  Happy August!  I hope you all have been enjoying these hot days of summer.  I have, and hate that it’s coming to an end for me due to the girls going back to school August 10th.  What happen to when kids went back to school after Labor Day?  I think that is not fair and it’s too hot for kids to go back to school so soon, their minds are still in vacation mode, including mines.



July was a month of travel and getting prepared for back to school.  Last month, I traveled to Memphis for my families’ annual family reunion and flew to Las Vegas for a Beauty Convention. 



What I haven’t mentioned on my blog post about what happened to me in Vegas is that I slammed one of my fingers with the car door while I was out there, so it has been very hard for me to type and I’ve been having a lot of typing mistakes because of it.  Part of my finger nail has turned black and I’m hoping it’ll grow out because it still hurts and it’s ugly to look at.  Has this happen to you?  How long do I have to expect it to grow out?



Again, I had another good month of blog earnings.  Nothing really has changed, just staying consistent with it.  My focus now on my blog has been back to school in which I’m getting good hits with Google and social networks that is making my income stay afloat.



Remember, if you’re a blogger make sure to write evergreen articles (most important to keep traffic coming to your blog consistently) and also seasonal ones.  Back to school is seasonal and my traffic for that topic is high and will start calming down by the end of September.  Next seasonal topics are Labor Day, Fall, and Halloween; make sure to start focusing on those topics now.

I can’t believe that I made over $10k again!  Hopefully this trend will continue because I’m paying off all my debts and saving a lot of it since my day job ends at the end of the year.  Soon I’ll be fully self-employed, I can’t believe it!  I’m nervous, but I know it will be the best for me and could really help my business grow.  No more of me always having to turn down event invites due to me always being at work.



Last month, something has been really bothering, something to where I’m starting to see who has my best interest and who just want to use me and this is one of the reasons why I’m going to be ending my income reports at the end of the year.



Due to me exposing my blog income I’m noticing, mainly old friends, I haven’t spoken to in years started talking to me again and wanting to know about how they too can become bloggers.  They’re telling me all these sob stories of their financial struggles and wanting me to help by making them bloggers too.



What ticks me off is that these so called friends didn’t even bother to ask me how I’m doing, what I’ve been up to besides blogging, how’s the kids!  Basically they see I’m doing well and want the piece of the pie too.  If they want to get into the business of blogging they could buy my eBook that explains how to make an income from blogging, for goodness sakes the book is only $1.99!!  I’m pretty sure they have $2 bucks to spare and help support me, but instead all they care about is free information they can milk out of me.



What they don’t understand is I worked hard all these years to get to the point where I’m at today.  I too struggled financially but I never looked for a handout, I worked extremely hard to get out of my situation.  You know how you see when people win the lottery and then all of a sudden people they haven’t spoken to in years start coming around?  Well yeah, that’s what seems to be happening to me and I don’t like it at all.  This is the reason why I didn’t really tell my family and friends that I was a blogger.


The reason for these income reports is to share that there are ways to make an income from home that is legitimate and I wanted to share my tips how I did it.  Also it helped me with my growth on what worked for me and what hasn't.  Just so unfortunate that people take advantage.

Hey yall!  Can you believe that we’re in the middle of the year now?  How has it been completing your goals for the year so far?  As for me I feel that my goals have been getting met and I continue to see growth with my business.  I started contacting brands directly (mainly for travel) more, just that now I need to learn how to get  these brands as repeating customers instead of a one-time deal.  I need to create a media pricing list to go along with my media kit.  This will be on my to-do list.



Last month was pretty much my “coming out” letting my family and friends know I’m a blogger.  I was featured on a very popular website For Harriet and my family and friends seen the article and was very proud of me for what I do.  They were very accepting and even started sharing the post on Facebook.  Such a proud moment for me!



The reason why I don’t speak about what I do to some people because of judgement, I don’t want people to judge me and say blogging is not a career.  Also, I don’t want people speaking negatively about my daughters being on my blog.  Mr. M and I had a discussion about if we should allow the girls to be on my blog since they wanted to be on it.  Since I do not speak about our personal lives or theirs we decided to include them and my girls couldn’t be happier because they are invited to exclusive events, became brand ambassadors, and get cool products to review.   Hey, you never know they may one day become bloggers themselves or find a job opportunity with the brands they’ve worked with.

I’ve seen blogs making 10k, 20k, even 30k a month and I wanted to see if I could do the same too.  I didn’t really do anything differently probably because of myself being featured on a big website and having useful posts that has been shared a lot.  Right now on Product Review Mom I have been putting my focus on summer travel, pretty much that blog seems to be becoming a travel blog but my readers doesn’t seem to mind because my traffic has been growing and I’m not relying on giveaways for a traffic boost.  Featuring more of me on Product Review Mom has also helped too.  People like to see the face that is behind the blog to get to know the author of the blog better.



Although June was great for me there was a problem I found while looking at my competitor’s blog, I seen one that pretty much duplicated what I have written on my blog.  Mr. M told me that with me sharing about how much I’m making each month that just gives people a reason to copy me.  Also he said I’m putting myself in a security risk disclosing my income.  He is right about this and got me thinking if I should be sharing my income anymore.  I think I’m going to finish off this year and then stop sharing.  What do you think I should do?



I contacted the person who duplicated me directly and they rewritten their article.  At first I was going to go to the big boys, Google to have their content de-indexed so their blog would not be found in Google searches but I played nice this time.    They replied back to me within minutes of me contacting them because they knew they could get in all sorts of trouble. 



Copying other peoples’ work and stealing their photos is a big no-no!  You can find yourself slapped with a lawsuit if you do that.  Hopefully this person who stole from me learns their lesson because next time I won’t be as nice.



You all know I’m all about learning new ways to make money with my blog and I found out about an affiliate program that pays you for each click on a photo, link, or video and it’s called www.shopstylecollective.com.  It is a great site if your blog is about fashion and beauty.  I just started using it at the end of last week so I’m unsure how well it will work for me. They pay seems small unless the clicks leads to a sale.
