He has been the Deputy General Counsel for Intellectual Property Law and Solicitor of the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) since January 2001. Prior to joining the USPTO, Mr. Whealan worked as Staff Attorney for the US International Trade Commission (ITC). He teaches as an adjunct professor at George Mason University School of Law and Franklin Pierce Law Center.
