Gassho Meditation
Gassho is the first part part of the complete Hatsurei-ho meditation. It is perfect for when you begin learning to meditate.  Gassho is also perfect as a start and end point to other meditation exercises.

Gassho means ‘hands coming together’

Sit with your hands together in the traditional prayer position and focus on breathing, slowly, in and out.  As you take each breath in, visualise the Reiki energy entering through the top of your head and filling your entire body.

As you let each  each breath out, visualise Reiki energy emitting from every part of your body. Visualise the Reiki energy continuing out into infinity.

This is an easy meditation to learn but extremely effective. When learning you can practice this as much or as many times as you like. Once perfected you can use this meditation to begin the more complex excercises where you can simply use the Gassho meditation until you feel you ready to move onto the next stage

Healing With Reiki – An Important Understanding

Whe healing with Reiki, anyone who gives or sends (universal energy) only acts as a channel. Nothing comes out of the person themselves. This means that ‘you’ do not yourself have or generate energy or any healing powers. You are simply a conduit for the energy that already exists in the universe. The ability to give or send that energy is ‘given’ to you by a Reiki master during attunement

For the person who receives healing with Reiki, this is a gift of pure relaxation. The body, mind and soul pass through the one receiving Reiki healing, literally in a state of relaxation. This may affect different people differently each time. Often people fall asleep while some begin to feel cold.

Reiki encourages self-healing, among other things. Everyone has a ‘self healing centre’ within themselves, which must be properly activated. Reiki is very helpful in enabling this to be used to it’s fullest capabilities. Through the laying on of hands on the body and the energy which is now being made that are activated self-healing. The energy is automatically sent where it is needed.

So you can that a practitioner, healing with Reiki, is not a healer as such but an enabler of the natural healing powers that already exist.

Reiki does not work exclusively on humans, but just as well with plants and animals. The same is true for infants and babies who are known to be more susceptible to Reiki as adults.

Importantly, you do not need to believe in Reiki for it to be effective. You simple need to be open to it. You do not need to blindly accept a belief system to be able to benefit from Reiki.

Of course you can reflect on Reiki, even in a sceptical way, but allow it in and enjoy it.

So now you know! There is no requirement to believe to benefit from healing with Reiki, but you should still be open and willing to accept Reiki, so that a session can show it’s positive effects.

Physical and Mental Energies In Your life – How Can Reiki Treatment Help?

Reiki is really a new form of the alternative medicine treatments. The development of Reiki didn’t happen until the 20th Century by the creator of the Japanese Usui. The word Reiki has its composition from the Rei, which stands for the cosmos, and the Ki which is the concept of life energy. The Reiki treatment consists basically of two parts. The modern world is a very stressful and energy-intensive place, requiring not just physical energy but copious amounts of mental energy to deal with tasks, solve problems, manage your work and family life.

Just as the physical energy needs to regenerate, this also applies to the mental dynamics. Often we can feel drained and fatigued both physically and mentally and Reiki provides an opportunity to replenish those important energy reserves.

Before you look at Reiki attunement you must understand the basics of Reiki. Originating from Japan, Reiki is a “relaxation method for activating the self-healing”, which uses the supply of healing life energy, to be triggered by the laying on of hands. The term “Reiki” is pronounced (Ray-kee) and comes from the two Japanese characters “Rei” and “Ki”.

“Ki” means life force, an inherent energy in every living being – where “Rei” is synonymous with universal, all-inclusive and unlimited. The composite mean ing of the two syllables “universal life energy” or “Healing Power of the Universe”. The technique was discovered at the beginning of the 20th Century by the Buddhist Mikao Usui (1865 to 1926).

Reiki is one of the best known and most common methods of healing by Hands. During a Reiki session, the therapist builds a channel by the laying on of hands between the patient and the “universal energy”. This energy (Reiki) flows into the body to release blockages and strengthen the self-healing and lead to a deep level of relaxation. Reiki on physical level, relieves pain, improves circulation & detoxifies, on an emotional level, it isrelaxing, calming and reduces stress.

However, in addition to actual manual therapy there is distance healing, a common method of energy work. For even by Mikao Usui, it was reported that he had resided in the initiations of his students always in another room.

Reiki attunement is the method for receiving the ‘life energy’ and moving through the 3 degrees of Reiki. The ability to learn Reiki is independent of the intellectual capacity of individuals and has nothing to do with whether someone is able to meditate. It does not require years of practice. Reiki is simply passed on from the teacher to the students by Reiki attunement.

“A man full of life energy is physically and spiritually in harmony with himself and his environment. If he is physically or mentally ill, it consumes energy.”

Besides the traditional Usui Reiki there are now many different variants. Reiki has developed entirely separately, in the west (UK, Europe and USA) and the East (Japan), from each other and so the different styles were created. Some of the more interesting systems are the eastern Komyo Kai Reiki and the Usui Reiki after Hawayo Takata (the western variant, which is the most widely know to people in the West). Also recent Usui Reiki Gendai Reiki offshoots from the likes of Hiroshi Doi as well as the original 7 degree Reiki from Barbara Ray are gaining interest.

As I said earlier, most predominantly learned in the west is the traditional Usui Reiki system (or at least Reiki online variations of that system). Most of the Reiki online home study courses are based around this system and use distance attunement to ‘pass on’ the energies from master to student. This fits in well with Master Usui who was well know for being in an entirely different room than the students during attunements.

It is important that the music be peaceful, tranquil and calming for the listener. Reiki music should be consistent, it should not change pitch or volume suddenly or contain any loud vocals. It should not be played loudly but softly and quietly.

Reiki music has an extraordinarily relaxing effect and should create a soothing but softly stimulating g sensation in the listener. This kind of music has a very calming effect on the mind so is excellent for anyone who may be anxious or suffer from panic attacks or other heath problems of a nervous nature.

Because of it’s calming nature it can be used by anyone who wishes to relax, not just within the confines of a Reiki treatment. In fact it is highly beneficial to listen to Reiki music both before, after or between treatments. This will increase the effectiveness of actual Reiki healing sessions.
