We just could not keep up with the demand and time it took while... well not being paid for our time. This site was not meant to earn anyone any fortunes and we loved the work we did here, but the upkeep on this fight is a full time job and a passion project that left little time for an actual job. Please consider that in order to run this site and make the videos you also have to raid full time in a high ranking guild. We decided not to ask for donations when times got rough, but all other ideas failed. Maybe one day we will be back.... anything is possible.

 

For now I'll make use of the front page to show anyone that doesn't already know the new vodka kill videos.

So when I was asked to help co host the upcoming Dragon Soul Challenge, featuring a head-to-head raiding race between top guilds Vodka and Method, I had but one question. Do I have to wear pants? Find out the answer to this question and more of life's mysteries April 21st at the Dragon Soul Challenge. An event where top US alliance guild Vodka will face off against top EU horde guild Method to see who can clear Dragon Soul and destroy the Destroyer first.

"The Dragon Soul Challenge is a head-to-head speed clear competition between vodka and Method. With no buff and no stopping, the first guild to fully clear 25 player Heroic Dragon Soul wins. Both raids will occur simultaneously on 4/21/2012 at 2:00 pm EST[8:00 pm CET]. We invite all fans of World of Warcraft to view and participate in all the action at http://athenelive.com/dschallenge.

While both guilds will feature high quality streams from a variety of player perspectives, the primary stream will showcase players from both guilds and be casted by Athene and Kinaesthesia. Blizzard has officially announce the Mists of Pandaria beta to begin "very soon" and gave details on how the process of inviting people will work. For those who are interested (who isn't!!!) you should check out the FAQ posted last night on the Blizzard site.

One thing that will effect fans and viewers is the NDA being lifted on all Mists of Pandaria content. What this means is everything can be posted and discuss on our forums, main page, and best of all, we can start making great content for you guys. For some early looks on whats been uncovered so far be sure to check out the MoP content on MMO-Champion and WoWhead.com.

What should you guys expect? In short PANDAMONIUM! haha but seriously... we will have a lot more content coming up for you guys. We haven't quite yet received our beta access, but as soon as we do (very soon) we will be posting content like crazy! Be sure to also check out the L2R livestream where I, Killars, will be streaming constant Mists of Pandaria footage. There will be no 5 man left undone. No area unexplored. No quests incompleted... (you get the point)...

Today marks the one year anniversary of the release of Cataclysm, which means it's also LearnToRaid.com's birthday! L2R is now officially one year old and it's really grown in that short time. Our signature video strategy guides are released faster now than ever, and we've added 5-man dungeon guides and the UI Workshop  to our line up as well. Streamed content is now a regular feature on the site, as is our bi-monthly news show, Logged In. We're not done adding to the site yet either. During the next two months we'll be unveiling some huge new features that will really help you step up your game. Nice!

But before we get to that, we really ought to have a proper birthday celebration first, don't you think? We were thinking about having a huge party for all our subscribers, but it turns out Kina blew the party budget on 37 pallets of premium chicken ramen. I guess we'll just have to do a contest instead, sound okay? Good. Here's the deal.

In 1976, Canada was given the honor of hosting the Olympic Games for their first time; they didn't win any gold medals that year.  More than a decade later, they repeated this failure when hosting the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary, which made them notable as the only country at the time to host multiple Olympics without winning a single gold.  I bring this up for a specific reason, and not just to embarrass Canada -- even if they did once kick me out of their stupid country, but I digress...

Where was I?  Oh yeah.  So, a few years before their third time hosting the event in 2010, Canada started a program called Own the Podium.  The goal was to ensure that Canada would be a top medal-earner that time around.  They surely didn't want to come away from yet another Olympics looking like a bunch of losers and seriously, I'm a nice guy.  Is your country too good for me or something, Canada?

Anyway, the plan worked.  They ended up ranking first in the gold medal count, claiming 14 of them.  The program wasn't without its detractors, though.  The main source of controversy was the fact that Canadian competitors were given such a high priority over foreign athletes in accessing the venues for training and practice.  While no rules were actually broken -- the amount of time given to all competitors met requirements laid out by the sporting federations -- the move was called unsportsmanlike by several former Olympians.

The newest batch of PTR changes have hit the patch notes this week and the big news is a round of nerfs for all three current raids.  If you're into specifics, there's a huge list available for viewing on the official Blizzard blog, but to keep things simple we'll just summarize that these bosses are basically becoming approximately 20% easier the day Firelands hits live servers.

Accessibility has been a huge priority for Blizzard in recent times.  From a business perspective, it makes perfect sense.  They want as many people as possible experiencing the content they've provided; if the game seems too unapproachable, it's bound to suffer.  There's a real balancing act at play here, though, and Blizzard is still working on finding that sweet spot where they are able to provide challenges for the hardcore, while still allowing more casual players to enjoy the game to its fullest.

With this round of adjustments, Blizzard is really hammering it home that "eventually is for everyone."  It's clear that they want players to see encounters while they are still remotely relevant...not several tiers or expansions down the line.  Has Blizzard finally found the right method of accessibility?  It depends on who you are.  There are a few different levels of raider out there, and this plan is going to affect them to wildly varying degrees.

L2R member blogs are also a great place for newcoming WoW bloggers to get started since the integrated community will ensure you always have readers. Member blogs are completely tied into the L2R community, allowing other members to find, subscribe to, and comment on your blog.

In addition to the comment system, member blogs also feature a rating system for your readers to use to judge the quality of your posts. The best received posts will show up in the "Best Blogs" section, and have a chance to be featured on the front page. So whether you write a really fantastic guide to post patch rogue rotations, or an insightful reflection on the difficulty of heroic Valiona and Theralion, if your readers love it, we'll plug it.

You can also blog about anything you want at L2R. As long as it somehow relates to WoW you can write whatever your heart desires, be it guides, theorycrafting, analysis, rants, or that funny story your guildies always tell the new members in vent. You decide.

Last Thursday, Blizzard released the first new bits of information about Patch 4.1 since BlizzCon. Along with the standard fare of class changes and new items, came the announcement that Zul'Gurub and Zul'Aman would both be returning as level 85 heroic dungeons.  Forum reactions were mixed (and in a similarly surprising turn of events, the sky is still blue and the earth continues to revolve around the sun).

The player base remains fairly divided when it comes to retooled content, so it's always a volatile topic. Some of us are nostalgic and cant wait to set foot into all those old haunts one more time, while others see any updated content as nothing more than a lazy retreading of stale fights.

So, is this just a Bobby Kotick conspiracy to squeeze more blood out of a stone, or are Blizzard developers merely trying to celebrate Warcraft history in a fun way? The truth is probably somewhere in between. I think we can safely predict that retooled dungeons and raids are going to continue showing up for the foreseeable future. It makes a lot of sense from a development perspective, after all, since it allows them to save time and cut costs. Realistically, though, I think we need to judge each dungeon on its individual merits, as opposed to letting blanket assumptions determine their worth.

One week of Cata raiding is almost over and the top guilds have already fastened their computer chair seatbelts and set their eyes on finish line.  Paragon started off strong as expected (no doubt to provide people with more ammunition for quickfire puns about “finnishing” content) and Ensidia was on their tail from day 1.  On the US side, Adept, Vodka, and Premonition were leading the pack swapping places on the charts quite a few times throughout the week.  Here are the standings at the time of this write-up...

20 minute launch delay, experience bugging, phasing issues, a sick leveling partner, etc. The whole process was frustrating, stressful, and seemed to be endless, but it was still fun.

12 hrs, 5 Mountain Dew, 3 Red Bull, and 3 Starbucks frappuccinos later I obtained the Feat of Strength for Realm First! Level 85 Rogue!

Thanks for all who watched the stream and have fun finishing / dungeon grinding. Cataclysm has just begun!

There are many ways to approach leveling to 85 in Cataclysm. Some players may wish to quest slowly and savor the story, while others go the opposite route of hacking and slashing their way through dungeons in an attempt to get to level cap fast.

Depending on your preferences every path is equally valid but in the long run many players will most likely be interested in leveling as fast and efficiently as possible. This guide will provide you with a simple overview on how to do that.

It's current name, Twilight Highlands can be attributed the Twilight's Hammer cultists who currently control the land.  The zone contains one 5-man dungeon, Grim Batol, and one raid zone, Bastion of Twilight.
