A new computer game gives you, too, the chance to play "Budget Hero." "Budget Hero 2.0" is an update of an original version that came out in 2008. "Our timing turns out to be perfect," said former Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., who resigned this year to head the Woodrow Wilson Center, a nonpartisan think tank that developed the game with American Public Media.

Harman said the game is a valuable teaching tool, players get insights into the "difficult choices involved in reducing the deficit and raising the debt limit," she said. Among the first players to test their skills at the unveiling this week of the new version were Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee, and Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo.
Udall said he had two kids in college and "I've been a real nag about video games," but that "the point of this game is to educate, to empower us."

The new version, updated to reflect the increasingly dire financial situation and such new factors as the House Republican budget's approach to Medicare, allows players to pick from some 100 policy cards as they try to earn "badges" that reflect their political leanings. Fiscal conservatives can try to earn a tea party badge, defense hawks a national security badge or environmentalists a green badge.

The game starts in the year 2021, based on Congressional Budget Office numbers showing what happens to the government's budget if there is no change in current policy. Players, by using their policy cards, change the course of history.

Before clicking on a policy, the player can check out the pros and cons. Raising the Social Security eligibility age to 70 for those born in 1973 or after would save $152 billion over 10 years but would also mean a 10 percent loss in benefits for those now in their mid- to late 40s.

In a quick demonstration of the game, two college students, one taking typical Republican positions and the other Democratic, showed just how difficult it will be to save the country. The Republican extended the Bush-era tax cuts, cut spending for the arts and humanities and reduced congressional budgets. The Democrat went after a green badge by raising the federal tax on gasoline and ending tax breaks for big oil companies, while also expanding health insurance coverage.

Both plans saw the government go broke — reaching a point where there isn't enough money to cover mandatory programs such as Social Security, Medicare and interest on the debt — in the 2030s.

"This game will lead you to the conclusion that there has to be structural change" in the big entitlement and revenue programs, said John Tanner, a former Democratic lawmaker from Tennessee.

Linda Fantin of American Public Media said the game has been played 830,000 times since the original version came out in 2008. The sponsors said they hope to get the new version into schools and universities by the fall semester. The game is free and available at here .

Create Portable Windows Live Writer

I personally love Windows Live Writer as blogging tool and I think it’s the best desktop blogging tool around us. In fact I don’t know any other free but yet high quality professional blogging tool other than Windows Live Writer. The good thing is, someone can use it to learn basic HTML too.

Anyway, the only problem I face often is, I need to install it in every PC where I want to use that until I found a portable option today. I often need Windows Live Writer for those article which ask table as it give me easiest way to manage those, so having a portable Windows Live Writer is always a best option. You can use it in cyber cafe, can use it in a PC where you don’t have an administrative permission and may be you know another way to use a portable app. The opportunity is endless.

So, how to get a portable version of Windows Live Writer:

1. Download Windows Live Writer Portable Version 3 and extract it in your USB drive[need a free extracting tool, use 7zip]

2. Install Windows Live Writer in you PC if you don’t have it yet.[download live writer]

3. Copy all files from under “C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Writer” to “WindowsLiveWriterPortable\App\WindowsLiveWriter“.

Now whenever you want to run live writer from USB, run WindowsLiveWriterPortable.exe located on USB and it then will take care of the necessary registry settings and document paths and let you run Windows Live Writer in a portable environment.

The only issue is, the system must have .Net framework (Ver 3.0) installed where you want to use Windows Live Writer Portable.

The system is successfully tested on Windows XP, Windows VISTA and Windows 7 environment.

Linux Mint 11 (Katya)

Like Ubuntu 11.04, Linux Minth 11 RC is based on GNOME 2.32. However, Linux Mint 11 does not use Unity and has the classic GNOME desktop instead. According to Linux Mint lead developer, Clement Lefebvre, they decided to stick with GNOME 2 because GNOME 3 still has compatibility issues, regression and missing features. Linux Mint 11 RC uses Linux 2.6.38 and Xorg 7.6.
New features in Linux Mint 11 includes the following:

Software Manager – The Software Manager in Linux Mint 11 RC has been made more polished and the main screen features bigger icons and new categories. The application screen has also been vastly improved and like the Software Manager in Ubuntu 11.04, it now supports rating and reviews.
Update Manager – The Update Manager has had some refactoring and code changes. Because of the changes, the Update Manager now checks for only package updates, making it much faster. The new Update Manager also handles dependencies now.

Linux Mint 11 also has some system improvements such as apt-download, which is used for downloading .deb packages with dependencies and storing them locally. An interesting feature in Linux Mint 11 is that users of the 32-bit build can install both the stable build and the unstable build and then switch between them easily.
The default applications that are included in Linux Mint 11 has also been changed slightly from that of Linux Mint 10. Gwibber is no longer installed by default. Like in Ubuntu 11.04, Rhythmbox has been removed to make way for Banshee and LibreOffice has been included in place of OpenOffice.org.
Currently, Release Candidate has a few known problems such as GNOME theme failing to load, problems with adding PPAs etc. These will be sorted out before the final release which is expected before the end of this month.

With already buried GingerBread, making this smartphone can be operated with fast plus there is support for Internet calling.
Android is continuously developed, after many cellphone or smartphone embed Froyo the Android v2.2, now turn GingerBread which attracts many vendors. One example is Samsung. This Korean-based company launched its first smartphone based Andoid v2.3 by name Nexus S.

With a 4 inch screen size, and appear quite thin, because its thickness is 10 mm. Although less comfortable when inserted into the pocket, but did not reduce the comfort when gripped. The number of parents opting to purchase cell phones for children who have not yet reached their teens is growing exponentially. And the odds are, if you have a preteen, the conversation has surfaced within your own family. One study indicates that as many as 50% of children today own mobile phones.
However, before you run out to the store to purchase that much requested cell phone for your own child, you should consider how responsible your child is. There is no standard answer to the question - “At what age should you consider buying your child a cell phone?” It is up to you as the parent to determine if your child is ready for the responsibility.
There is no denying that a cell phone can be a handy tool for keeping up with your child. Most parents see it as a way to stay in touch in case of emergency. If your child needs to stay after school or if a practice runs late, then a simple phone call is all that is needed. If you are running late, then that same simple phone call can calm an anxious child.

For further security, almost all cell phones come standard with GPS (global positioning system) these days. This feature is handy for emergency personnel when trying to locate a person in an emergency situation.

Something that parents should be concerned about when considering purchasing a cell phone for a child is that a cell phone can expose your child to dangers as well. Parents need to be extra vigilant about monitoring who calls their child and who their child calls. Parents also need to monitor text messaging, or block the feature altogether.
If you have weighed the pros and cons of purchasing a cell phone for your child, and have decided to go ahead with purchase, then be sure to set rules and guidelines for your child regarding his/her cell phone usage.
It may help you to also have some controls in place for your child’s cell phone. You may consider a prepaid phone as an option, so there are no surprises when the bill arrives. You may also decide to block certain features (such as text messaging, Internet access, and games). The Nokia C6-01 seems better equipped indeed than most of its direct competitors. HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) seems to be the standard in this price range and nHD (360 x 640 pixels) trumps that and even keeps some deeper blacks in reserve. Not to mention stuff like HD video recording, USB On-the-go, DivX and XviD or Flash support, which are still rare enough to make a great selling point.

From where we stand there are some personality issues the C6-01 needs to tackle if it wants to keep the competition at a safe distance. The Symbian^3 shortcomings (no split-screen typing and a sub-par web browser) may not be make-or-break in the mid-range but they certainly matter. The other thing is the fixed focus imaging Nokia are so fond of. Anyway, this phone looks good and we really hope it delivers on the promises it makes. It’s not the top of the smartphone food chain and the C6-01 doesn’t feel particularly threatened. On the other hand, strong newcomers are always welcome in the midrange. Nokia C6-01 feature pack and capabilities are almost the same as the previous Symbian^3-powered C7. The thing that makes C6-01 special is its elegant and unique look plus it’s compact form factor. We guess the lower price will be a factor too. This time Nokia has bet on a smaller AMOLED screen in order to give us a more pocket friendly phone. Of course, shrinking the phone has made an impact on the thickness, but most users won’t have problems with that additional 3mm.
At the time being Nokia C6-01 can be yours for around 300 euro, which is close to the price announced initially by Nokia. As things stand right now, the Nokia C6-01 is too close to C7. The only differences are in the slightly bigger screen and the FM transmitter.

Bilbo / Blogilo: Best Blogging Applications for Linux

For those of you who have used Windows Live Writer (WLW), certainly you know how good a blog editing applications in Windows. Although its features are plentiful, but the application can be obtained free of charge. Kulit means skin, and refers to the leather construction of the puppets that are carefully chiselled with very fine tools and supported with carefully shaped buffalo horn handles and control rods.

The puppet figures themselves vary from place to place. In Central Java the city of Surakarta (Solo) is most famous and is the most commonly imitated style of puppets. Regional styles of shadow puppets can also be found in West Java, Banyumas, Cirebon, Semarang, and East Java. Bali produces more compact and naturalistic figures, and Lombok has figures representing real people. Often modern-world objects as bicycles, automobiles, airplanes and ships will be added for comic effect, but for the most part the traditional puppet designs have changed little in the last 300 years.
