What is the purpose of this blog? I have learned a tremendous amount from my peers, seniors, friends and colleagues in this industry and many others. Had they not been there to answer my questions and offer solutions and choices, I'd be stuck in those situations and have many unanswered queries.

How can Six Sigma help to plug gaps in ADDIE?

ADDIE is an established basic content development process. I have used the basic model and the modified versions of the model. From years of experiece, I learned that a key element that would make a learning deliverable more valuable to an operations and business stakeholder is not dictated or included in the ADDIE model. THis is fair enough the scope of the model is to focus on how to design, build, and deliver content. The way to bridge this gap is simple, you can map the Six Sigma process to ADDIE process. I mapped the ADDIE model to the SIx Sigma model and used it to develop an elearning product. The motivation for me was to obtain budget approvals from the business stakeholders. The outcome was I did and we delivered savings in dollars, learning, and enhanced productivity. I will share more of these in the coming articles.
In simple terms, Six Sigma process helps to focus on the business metrices and sets the steps to achived the same. To follow six sigma alone would have meant to give up a lot of the Instructional and learning aspects. As a designer at heart, I did not want to comrpomise on the learning outcomes.So I looked at how to interweave the two models. This process of interweaving helped to bring into focus the business need and metrices. For example, I spent good time during the Analysis phase in doing a CBA. This then drove the learning and design analysis steps.
