Simple Fish Anatomy Diagram

Here's a simple diagram of a fish that the kids can label and color. It's a little follow-up to yesterday's blog post with the fish word search puzzle and fish craft activities. It's a good way to review some of the vocabulary that was on the fish word search.

gills - organs used for breathing
scales - outside covering of most fish
fins - used for swimming and balancing in water

Answers:
Top Row: mouth, eye
Bottom Row: gills, scales, fin, tail fin

Boston Strong - Teachers for Boston

Boston Strong - Teachers for Boston

Michaela at The Center Based Classroom has put together a fundraiser to raise money for the victims of last week's bombing at the Boston Marathan.

Michaela asked sellers at the site Teachers Pay Teachers if they would like to donate products to the fundraiser from their TpT stores. She received an overwhelming response. You can see the pictures below of all the teaching products that were donated.

There are 2 bundles. The 1st bundle is for Grades K-2 and is valued at $150. The 2nd bundle is for Grades 3-6 and is valued at $170.

You can purchase either bundle for $20 and the ENTIRE DONATION goes to the ONE FUND to help victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Fun Easter Bunny Dice Containers for Math Games

WOW! It's almost spring and Easter is almost here!

Here are some fun Bunny Egg Containers to use during math time to 'contain' the dice in your students' favorite math games that use dice.

This package of 3 plastic bunny eggs was purchased at a Dollar Store.
One or two dice fit inside easily and keep the dice contained and not rolling off the table or desk.

It's easy enough for kids to see inside the front of the bunny eggs to read the numbers (and even easier to read from the back)!

Sums of Ten - Easter Addition Fun with Manipulatives

Are you teaching Addition and working on Sums of Ten?

Here's a fun Math Activity that helps children develop fluency with their very important math facts and math vocabulary (add, addition, addends, plus, sum).

All you will need are some inexpensive plastic eggs and a permanent marker. I purchased my Easter eggs at a dollar store. I chose to use one color but you certainly can mix up the colors! :)

On one half of a plastic egg you will need to write one of the ADDENDS and the Plus Sign and on the other half of the egg you write the other ADDEND that will make the sum of ten when the two addends are combined.

Next separate the two parts of the plastic eggs, mix them up, and let the kids put them back together making the correct Sums of Ten.

This set uses Sums of Ten but you could use the eggs to include any math facts that your students need to practice to develop math fluency. Younger students could work with Sums of 5, etc.

Valentine's Day and 2D Shapes Fun

Here's is a real easy Valentine's Day Craft which can also be part of a Math Activity on 2D Shapes.

2D Heart Person - Fun with Math Shapes

Materials needed:

construction or computer paper
scissors
pencil/marker/crayons
stapler
glue
google eyes (optional)

Directions

Draw or trace a heart shape onto construction paper. (This is the body.)
Recreate the shape 4 more times in a smaller version (for hands and feet).
Cut out the 5 shapes.
Cut 4 strips of paper (approximately 1 inch wide). (The heart shapes and strips could be pre-made and already cut for younger students.)
Accordian fold the strips. These will be the arms and legs.
Use glue or stapes to attach all the pieces.
Draw facial features and/or add google eyes.
Hang on wall, bulletin board, etc.

Common Core Aligned

This heart shaped craft can be a good introduction to a study or review of 2D Shapes (geometry). The Common Core Standards have students in kindergarten identifying squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, and hexagons. Grade 1 students also need to compose trapezoids. Grade 2 students need to also recognize and draw quadrilaterals and pentagons.

Follow-Up
