If you are interested to learn the violin, then you are doing yourself a favor. The violin is touted as one of the most beautiful musical instruments throughout history. In addition, the music that it creates is able to reach out to our hearts. So if learning violin is your current goal, then there is no reason for you to hold back.

However, learning to play the instrument is by no means an easy task. You can have the best violin to play with, but if you do not give some effort to hone your skills in playing it, then no good music that can touch people’s lives will be played. Therefore, a beginner should commit himself in learning the instrument and work hard to master it.

The first thing that should be learned in playing the violin is how to be comfortable with the instrument. Holding the violin in the correct manner is fundamental to playing good music with it. You should be able to maintain the proper posture so that playing the instrument will become much easier. If there are any problems concerning this, it should be corrected as early as possible.

In addition, the way you stand in front of people will be the first thing that can get other’s attention before you can even play. If people see that you are not comfortable with your instrument, chances are they will expect less from you despite your fingering skills. So while you are still on your beginner violin, practice presenting yourself in the best way possible.

Holding the violin is another thing that should be kept in mind in learning violin. One should have ample arm space to be able to move freely. See to it that the violin can rest comfortably under your left chin and over your left shoulder. If not, purchase a chin rest, which is one of the more essential violin accessories.

You should also consider purchasing a shoulder rest so that the violin can be fully supported. It is important that you gate a shoulder rest that is adjustable so that it can fit your shoulder perfectly. This way, you can focus more on fiddling and fingering without having to worry too much on carrying the violin.

If one is uncomfortable with the violin, the tendency is for him to slouch forward to keep a hold of the violin, thus affecting the way the violin is played. The sound of the musical instrument can also be affected. That is why it is important to feel comfortable with the violin. The way you hold it can really affect the music that you are playing.

As early as your student violin years, make sure that you keep in mind these pointers in learning violin. After all, it is your own personal instrument, so make yourself connect with it both physically and mentally and learn to play the best music with constant effort and practice.

There are certain things that should be remembered for you to be successful in any endeavor. In the case of learning violin, the guidelines that should always be applied, whether you are using a student violin or the best violin in the world, include five things.

It should be stressed that playing the violin is the union of both the physical and the mental. The physical aspects included in playing the instrument are dexterity and muscle coordination, while the mental aspects are commitment and motivation. When all of these are combined into one, with the addition of the things that should be always remembered, one will be able to create the most harmonious music that a violin can ever create.

The first thing that should be remembered in learning violin is to have your own violin. It is a good thing to have the passion in learning how to play the instrument, but owning your own violin will allow you to fully explore it. Besides, you would learn faster if you have your own instrument and grow with it at the same time. It is true that violins can be expensive, but there are some affordable ones that are good to start with.

Second, you should regularly practice your violin. If this becomes a routine, your muscles will become more fit in playing the instrument. Thus, you can become a better violinist in due time with constant effort. As they always say, practice makes perfect. So, decide the best time for you to practice and stick with it.

Aside from the time, it is also important to remember that the place where you will be playing and practicing should be taken into account. Choose a place where you can focus and get a lot of motivation. It would be best to make this place an exclusive one for you and your violin. This way, you can have an easier time getting inspired whenever it is time for you to practice.

Next, take care not to stress yourself out while you are playing. This is because you lose the dexterity of your fingers once you gather tension, and this is not particularly helpful with the violin. Just relax and try to calm yourself before you start fingering and fiddling.

Finally, you should always take good care of your violin. Even if it is just a beginner violin that you are practicing with, a neglected one will not be capable of making music that is soothing to the ears. A rosined bow, well-kept hair, and dust-free instrument are the main characteristics of a violin that is well taken care of. Do not forget to take care of your violin accessories too.

Learning violin will not be a tough hobby if you have the passion for it and if you have a strong commitment in mastering it. These guidelines will not be obtrusive once you get the hang of it. Always remember to enjoy your every moment with your violin so that the violinist in you will surely come out.

Author: Vikram kuamr

Buying your first student violin outfit can be quite an exciting undertaking. They come in eight different sizes, and numerous price ranges. There are some that people try out that only cost them around $100 to $200, and are quickly found to be a waste of time. You can sink more into repairing a violin than you originally paid, and still not have a violin that’s worth more than that original price. Repairs for your student violin can be very costly.

You should expect to spend somewhere around $600, give or take, for a decent violin outfit. And should you reach the point where you want to ‘upgrade’, then you can get into the $1,000 and on up ranges. Many people opt for renting when first starting out. It gives the student time to see if this is really for them before investing hard earned money into a personal instrument. One thing about finding a good violin, is that the more they’re played, the better they get. But that doesn’t mean you should buy a used one. You should grow with your violin.

There are various avenues to take when purchasing your student violin outfit. You can do it online, or at auctions, or even pawn shops. You can also go through a dealer or a private individual. The local dealer seems to be the best choice for many. They’re loaded with knowledge and expertise, and are putting their own reputations on the line by having the dealership. They’re far more likely to be up-front and honest with you than in other types of transactions.

When buying your first student violin outfit you may find that there is much to learn about the violin. And should you go the way of buying a used one, then you need to know what to look for so you don’t get a ‘lemon’. Weather and handling as well as environment has an affect on your violin. Wood can swell and it can shrink, depending on what you violin is exposed to. Check for cracks and make sure that all the edges match up when looking at a use one. Cracks in the back can de-value your violin as much as 75%.

Most people don’t think about maintenance when they set out on their search for a student violin outfit. They’re just concerned with what shape it’s in at the time of purchase. Broken strings are just par for the course when you play a stringed instrument. But if the same string breaks time and again, you may need to make an adjustment to you violin. A lot of players upgrade their strings to the perlon core strings, and they get a much better tone from them. And depending on how much you play your student violin, the bow will need to be re-haired every year to two years.

You should keep the rosin from the bow that collects on the fingerboard wiped off with a soft cloth. It can harden and cause you to have to get it removed professionally. When taking your violin somewhere, don’t pack it in the trunk of the car. The heat can warp the wood and cause problems. The wood will crack and then costly repairs will be needed. All these things need to be considered when buying your first student violin outfit. Check out a dealer who will help assist you in making the right purchase, and save you some money as well.

The fact is that violin lessons are expensive, and it’s not easy to figure out how to learn violin without them. However, if you’re an open-minded and creative person, you might find that online violin lessons are just right for you, especially if you’re on a budget.

How Do Online Lessons Work?

Well, you don’t exactly have a real teacher. Most courses run for a year, and offer a large set of pre-recorded videos that you work through from week to week. The better courses also provide you with access to a private forum, which you can ask questions in, and be answered by a real teacher.

You’ll generally be taught everything about playing the violin, from beginner techniques through to intermediate-advanced. Most online music school provide you with unlimited sheet music downloads, as well as jam-tracks and listening rooms.

Will I Really Be Able To Learn Online?

Most people are a bit skeptical at first because it’s quite a new concept. However, with the same amount of practice as what you would normally put into learning an intrument, you definitely can learn online. What’s more, learning online gives you the freedom to move at your own pace, which will help you truly understand concepts and develop your own, unique playing style.

How Much Do Online Violin Lessons Cost?

It varies, but let’s just say they’re a lot less expensive than “real” lessons. I’ve seen some schools sell one-year courses for $20 up to $50. As you can see, it’s pretty cheap because people are still quite skeptical. Expect to see prices rise as society opens up even more to new technologies.

If online violin lessons might be for you, check out this Learn The Violin website. It’s got plenty more advice about how to learn violin.

Of course playing the violin will look impossible if you watch the professionals in action. Watch a beginner learn for the first time, though, and you will find that violin is not as hard as you first thought it to be.

Still, there are some things you can do to make the whole business of learning and studying the violin a lot easier. Here are a couple of tips to help you do just that:

Cut your nails

Leave vanity to one side, and cut your nails short before you even think of learning how to play the violin. Not only will long nails make the task a lot more complicated, but you also risk damaging the strings if your fingernails get in the wrong spot. This is true even if you are a skilled violinist. So, be prepared to snip off those fingernails on a regular basis.

Stick with the basics first

As mentioned earlier, newcomers get put off when they see professionals burn off their strings with a magnificent spicatto or land off a sharp marcato one after the other. Do keep in mind that these masters were also just green novices at one time in their lives. Don’t sweat the details and start with the basics first. Learn how to play open strings and scales, and you will be well on your way as a violinist.

Mark finger locations with tape

If you are having trouble identifying where the various notes are on the violin, you can mark these locations with tape until your fingers get used to it. Just be careful not to be too rough in placing or removing the strips of tape, as you could end up damaging the finer hairs of the bow. You could even strip off the surface of the neck if the tape is too adhesive.

Sit or stand at attention

As simple as it sounds, playing with the right posture makes life a lot easier and less painful for your body in the long run. It may feel awkward at first, but right posture will help ease you into correctly playing the violin. You are also at less risk of injuring yourself, which is always a good thing for anyone.

Use a violin that matches your arm length

One reason that some people cannot play the violin is because their arms are too short or too long to accommodate the violin they are using. Measure the length of space from your neck to the palm of your extended left hand, and you will be able to gauge whether a full 4/4 violin or a smaller 1/4 or 1/8 type will work for you.

Buy a violin

If you are serious about learning violin, then you need an instrument to call your own. Each violin has its own unique character, and you will only be able to play at your best if you are intimately connected to your own instrument. Invest a little money and buy your own violin – you definitely will not regret it as you become better and better at the violin.
