Rapture Effect, I have to say this trick effect is the most visually amazing effect, looks like trick photography, but trust me it is not. Imagine a change so impossibly visual. Rapture is a miraculous change, where a card box can appear and disappear in the blink of an eye. Simply wave your hand over a pack of cards and the box suddenly appears around it. Then, in an instant, the box disappears. It uses a simple and practical method that allows you to perform it anywhere and everywhere. The Rapture gimmick utilizes household items and can be constructed in a few minutes. It’s durable enough to be used for hundreds of performances, yet small enough to fit in your pocket.

Ahhh So at last you have perfected your tricks, practised it very well, sure on how to perform, where to perform, great. But Wait, did you think what to wear for your trick presentation, will your audiences like what you are wearing.

Let me tell me you something about image and presentation. This is EVERYTHING, it is like giving your audience the total package. Just think, you entering a stage, a party where you are about to perform, the first thing that your audience notices about you is your presentation, the way you are dressed. You might be thinking now, I can wear anything to do my magic trick and it will still wow the audience and you know that, well you are probably right, that is if you perform a great trick. But still imagine you can dress up very well and this will add to your success as a great magician. Think about it for a minute, think of all the great magicians of present and past, like David Copperfield, David Blaine, Lance Burton. Now you might even be thinking “David Blaine” what does he wear special, but just think he wears a nice black collared shirt with black pants, that gives him that mysterious look, David Copperfield aways dressed up t the T for his shows. Now do not think that I am telling you to wear a tux or your best suit to perform.

The main point, just remember whatever you wear should make a lasting impression in the minds of your audience.

A spectator selects a card from a deck . A corner is torn from the card and given to the spectator as a receipt. The magician claims he will make the card completely disappear and, after some by-play does exactly that! “D’you know where it went?” he asks. The spectators confess that they do not. “Look over there, d’you see what’s taped to that window?” The spectators turn around to find their selection taped firmly to a nearby window, the corner receipt matches perfectly! “That’s pretty weird how I made your card appear there isn’t it?” The spectator agrees. “I’ll show you what’s even weirder though……” The magician passes a fan of cards over the selection and it very visually jumps right through the window! “…….how I made it travel right through the glass!” The tape is removed and the spectator can remove the card from the other side of the glass. The corner still matches perfectly!

Practice it at home before you do it in front of someone for the first time. As simple as it is, you just cannot believe that someone can hold a lit cigarette between their fingers without jumping through the roof. I’ve actually watched so-called macho men try it themselves and they’ve burnt the hell out of their fingers, jumped and yelled nasty words. (I actually did it once with a burning log at a campsite, but I can’t, in good conscience recommend that anyone try it.) This trick always works and always gets attention.

A little about Dai Vernon

He was born in Ottawa as David Frederick Wingfield Verner. While performing, he often mentioned that he had learned his first trick from his father at age seven, adding that he had “wasted the first 6 years” of his life. His father was a government worker and an amateur magician. He studied mechanical engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario but by World War I he had moved to New York City.

Due to his extraordinary knowledge of, and skill at, sleight of hand, Vernon has long been affectionately known as The Professor. Harry Houdini (who in his early years billed himself as “The King of Kards”) often boasted that if he saw a card trick performed three times in a row he would be able to figure it out. Vernon then showed Houdini a trick where he removed the top card of the deck and placed it second from the top, then turned over the top card to again reveal the original card. Houdini watched Vernon do the trick seven times, each time insisting that Vernon “do it again.” Finally, Houdini’s wife and Vernon’s friends said, “Face it, Houdini, you’re fooled.” For years afterward, Vernon used the title The Man Who Fooled Houdini in his advertisements.
