At tonight's delegate meeting (29th June 2016), Leeds TUC delegates passed the following emergency motion in support of Jeremy Corbyn

“Leeds TUC is alarmed and disgusted by the attempt, on the part of certain Labour MP’s, to try to force the Leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, to resign.
Jeremy was elected with a bigger mandate than any Labour Party leader previously, whereas Labour MPs account for a very small proportion of the party’s membership.
Leeds TUC fully supports Jeremy’s determination not to stand down and calls on the TUC, Leeds Labour MPs and Leeds Labour councillors, and all trade unions to give him their full support.”

Leeds Trades Union Council encourages all trade unionists to attend the Leeds People's March for Climate Justice, Jobs and Hope on Saturday 28 November 2015 at Leeds Minster, Kirkgate starting at 13:00.

The protest is a vital demonstration to show that Leeds wants a COP21 agreement in Paris which will halt the rising temperature of the planet and prevent irreversible climate change.

The Tory government will be announcing yet more austerity in their Spending Review. As they prepare to inflict yet more misery, we're gathering to say no. That we don't consent to cuts and we will resist together.

Leeds Trades Union Council is organising free coach travel to the TUC Protest at Conservative Party Conference in Manchester on Sunday 04 October 2015.

Coaches depart 10am from W.Yorks Playhouse in Leeds and there is also a coach going from Wakefield.

We encourage everyone to stand up to austerity and attend this protest.

Leeds Trades Union Council is organising a protest in Leeds on the day George Osborne announces his emergency budget which is set to further austerity in the UK by slashing public services. This will endanger the late and fragile recovery while further reducing living standards across the UK.

Leeds has a further reason to feel betrayed because the government has already rescinded its promise to develop a northern powerhouse by withdrawing investment to electrify the railways and improve transport links across the north.

Please attend to show opposition to austerity in Leeds and across the UK.

The protest will take place in City Square opposite Leeds Railway Station - 08 July 2015 - 5pm

Leeds Citizens Founding Assembly 07 July 2015 - The Centenary Pavilion, Elland Road

At our last Delegate Meeting Thomas Chigbo from Leeds Citizens was our guest speaker.

Thomas spoke to us about how Leeds Citizens was a new organisation in Leeds working to bring together different institutions including local trade union branches to work for social justice in Leeds.

Leeds Citizens is holding its founding assembly on 07 July 2015 at 7:30 at The Centenary Pavilion and will have speakers from Leeds City Council, First Bus and Leeds Hospital Trust to answer questions and make commitments about service provision in Leeds.

May Day 2015

Thanks to everyone who attended May Day March on 02 May 2015.

It was great to see so many banners there and that no-one was put off by the photo exhibition in Victoria Gardens.

The Leeds public in City Centre showed great support for everyone marching and it was great to see the trade union movement make an impact on the city that weekend.

The PCS National Gallery Strikers will speak at the Leeds Trades Union Council Delegate Committee tomorrow.

The brave workers have taken 17 days of strike action so far to fight privatisation of services at the Gallery and have started another 5 days of strike action from Tuesday 24 March 2015 until Saturday 28 March 2015.

Leeds Trades Council will be supporting the TUC's Britain Needs a Pay Rise March and Demonstration in London on Saturday 18 October. Along with other local groups, we want to encourage as many people as possible to support this important demonstration.

To that end Leeds Trades Council is organising a coach to London on Saturday 18 October.

The pick up point for the coach will be outside LEEDS PLAYHOUSE AT 07:00.

Seats for the coach will be free, but Leeds TUC would welcome donations from individuals or Unions, who have delegates to the Trades Council.

Wigan Diggest Festival and Ecosocialism 2014 take place this Saturday and Sunday in Wigan.

There's load of entertainment on offer on Saturday at the 4th Wigan Diggers Festival on Saturday with John McDonald MP opening the festival and bands, stories and entertainment throughout the day.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Leeds July 10th March and Rally to support the striking workers of the NUT, Unison, GMB, UNITE, FBU and PCS.

Over 3000 people marched and attended the rally on the day making it the 5th biggest in the country.

It was a fantastic day and attracted enthusiastic support from the public in Leeds City Centre.

On Thursday 10 July 2014 6 unions with members in Local Government, Schools, The Fire Service and the Civil Service will go on strike together for decent pay in the public sector.

We urge everyone in Leeds to join the members from these unions on a march and rally and show their support.

Please assemble at 11:30 for a March which will set off from Victoria Gardens outside Leeds Art Gallery at 12. The March will be followed by a Rally at Victoria Gardens with speakers from the unions involved in the strike action.

Leeds May Day 2014

Leeds May Day was a fantastic event this year which featured great speeches from Matt Wrack, General Secretary of the FBU and Alex Gordon, president of the RMT.

The March was a lively and noisey celebration of Trade Unionism in Leeds and was well received by the many shoppers and bystanders who were in Leeds City Centre on 03 May 2014.

Please attend the Leeds fast food rights campaign day of action on Saturday 15 February 2014 to take place outside McDonald's at the St. Johns Centre, Merrion Street, Leeds, LS2 8LQ at 13:00.

The multi-million pound fast food industry bases its profits on exploitation and increasingly a culture of zero hours contracts.

Workers who make the huge profits for the fast food corporations are on low wages and are not told about their rights.

In the United States there's been a growing movement for justice for workers in the fast food industry. This included protests and strikes.

We need a movement here too. At the heart of any such campaign is the need to get organised.

Fast food workers need string unions so they can fight together for decent pay, secure contracts and Respect.

Leeds Poverty Action Group - Energy Bill revolution meeting on Wednesday 12 February 2014 at Wharf Chambers.

Last winter a person died every six minutes from the cold. Chilling. That's 31,000 British deaths, many of them preventable. Thousands agree this is unacceptable, but does your MP?

The Energy Bill Revolution aims to get every fuel poor household a big old retrofit - meaning proper insulation and other big energy efficiency measures.

To do this we need money. The Energy Bill Revolution is calling on the Government to use the money it gets from our carbon taxes to make our homes super-energy efficient – driving down our energy bills forever.

Leeds Fuel Poverty Action and others in Leeds want to organise a big public event to get all our MPs on board. If you'd like to make this happen, come along to this meeting and get stuck in.

Everyone is welcome - this is the first time this group will meet, so don't worry if you haven't come along to anything before!

Meeting will be held at Wharf Chambers, 23-25 Wharf Street, Leeds on Wednesday 12 February 2014 at 18:00 to 19:30.

There are 3 upcoming UAF events that Leeds Trades Union Council would like to promote and encourage everyone attend.

The first public meeting takes place this Saturday 08 February and starts at 10am at the Swarthmore Centre in Leeds.

The Second event takes place at the Electric Press Screening room on Tuesday 18 February and starts at 7:00pm.

The third event will take place in London on 22 March 2014 and is a rally and demonstration to take place from 11am in Central London.
