GM had a $38.7 billion loss for 2007, the largest annual loss ever for an automotive company.

The Obama Ohio campaign officially has a state Headquarters. It's on Ritch Street in Columbus, OH (near 5th Street). Please don't go rushing over their just yet. Let's give the campaign till Monday before we start calling them, and asking for help, and trying to get going. Afterall, a lot of those folks just got here. Monday's a good day to start moving on everything.

There are rumors abound regarding Ohio's SEIU District 1199. Specifically, folks are doing the endorsement talk. District 1199 has yet to make an official endorsement in the presidential race, but from the sheer amount of buzz I heard over SEIU on Friday alone, I'd say something's afoot. District 1199 is one of the strongest unions in Ohio and would be a huge injection of strength into either presidential campaign.

I'm hearing (and ODP later confirmed) that office space in Ohio Democratic Party owned offices were offered for rent to both the Obama and Clinton campaigns. Both campaigns appreciated the offer from ODP, but ultimately opted to find office space elsewhere. There were a few claims from folks that the Clinton campaign was offered office space with the party about 24 hours before office space was offered to the Obama campaign, but those claims aren't verified.

Expect to see a lot of Ohio activity from both Clinton and Obama starting around Monday. That's logical anyway, since both folks have been scrambling to get in state throughout the weekend.

Plenty of controversy still surrounds the Feb. 27th Ohio Debate. It appears both the Clinton and Obama Teams are willing to debate if their own respective demands are met. Some demands are more reasonable than others. There will be no word on ticket availability until all this stuff is sorted out.

That's it for now. I may have some more stuff along these lines later today.

Buckeye State Blog - Pamphleteers of the Revolution<ng:postId>4334481590</ng:postId><ng:feedId>708384</ng:feedId><ng:folderId>4332992</ng:folderId><ng:folder ng:id="4332992" ng:flagState="0" ng:annotation="" />

Would it be torture if Iran used waterboarding on Americans?

The tortured debate on waterboarding; it's Kafkaesque:Sen. The poll found that the Internet is the primary source of information about presidential candidates for 48 percent of respondents.
The White House is demanding that immunity for the telecoms be included in Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) legislation pending in Congress. But in today's letter -- written by John Dingell, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce; Ed Markey, Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet; and Bart Stupak, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations -- the congressmen argue that the president is creating a "false choice" for lawmakers.

"By tying the question of lawsuit immunity to questions of national security and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) reform legislation, the President has created a false choice for Congress," the letter states. "The issue of immunity for phone companies that chose to cooperate with the President's warrantless wiretapping program deserves a separate and more deliberate examination by Congress. No special urgency attaches to the question of immunity other than the present Administration's general eagerness to limit tort liability and its desire to avoid scrutiny of its own actions, by either the courts or the Congress."

Earlier this week, more than two dozen House members sent a letter to the White House announcing their opposition to telecom immunity. Along with the Chairmen's letter, this may represent a significant shift in the political debate over telecom immunity. The Senate could complete work on the FISA Amendments Act, which includes immunity, as early as next week. In November, the House passed its own surveillance bill, the RESTORE Act, which does not grant immunity. The House will soon be negotiating with the Senate over how to reconcile those bills.

"Senators about to vote on immunity should heed the Chairmen's warning: tying the question of telecom immunity to that of FISA reform is unnecessary and dangerous," said Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Senior Staff Attorney Kevin Bankston. "But if the Senate complies with the Administration's pleas to cover up its illegal spying and bail out the phone companies, then it's time for the House to step up and block immunity for lawbreaking telecom giants."

EFF represents the plaintiffs in Hepting v. AT&T, a class-action lawsuit brought by AT&T customers accusing the telecommunications company of violating their rights by illegally assisting the National Security Agency in widespread domestic surveillance. The Hepting case is just one of many suits aimed at holding telecoms responsible for knowingly violating federal privacy laws with warrantless wiretapping and the illegal transfer of vast amounts of personal data to the government.

You might've missed it, but the polls just opened. Yes, the polls are open.

Whether you like Obama or Clinton, you can vote now. In Ohio, in person (and via mail) absentee voting opens 25 days before a primary election. Twenty-five days before Ohio's March 4th Primary Election happens to be today, February 8th. Starting today, Ohio's polls are wide open.

So, How Can I Vote Today?
Great question. Spectacular question in fact (I'm so glad you asked).

In Ohio, anyone can vote early. No special reason is required. The easiest way to vote early and just get it out of the way is to simply walk into your Board of Elections today:

In person: You may go to the board of elections office of the county in which your voting residence is located during regular business hours after absentee ballots are available for voting, but no later than the day before the election, and request, receive and vote your ballot at the board office.

When you go to vote early, make sure you take ID (license, utility bill, etc.).

Don't know where your board of elections is located? Heck, BSB can help you out there too! Click here for a list of addreses of BoE's. See, just go stop by the BoE today. Go vote (you'll have more time to volunteer on election day if you vote early)! And make sure to reward yourself with something nice, maybe a milk shake.

How Can I Vote By Mail

Ok, let's say you're a little more laid back (read = lazy) than the folks who want to drive all the way to the BoE to vote today. You can still request an absentee ballot and vote from your home. And you can put that request in today. Here's the form for absentee ballot requests.

By mail: Unless you are a member of the U.S. armed forces, you must mail your properly completed absentee ballot application bearing your original signature to the board of elections of the county in which your voting residence is located. The board must receive your request by noon on the Saturday before the election. However, you should submit your request as far in advance of the election as possible.

Just make sure to mail it to the Board of Elections you're registered at!

What're you waiting around for? Ohio's the big show. Go vote!

Buckeye State Blog - Pamphleteers of the Revolution<ng:postId>4328974974</ng:postId><ng:feedId>708384</ng:feedId><ng:folderId>4332992</ng:folderId><ng:folder ng:id="4332992" ng:flagState="0" ng:annotation="" />

He Already Quit His Day Job

McCain got lost on his way to the Senate floor:

McCain has missed 255 of 450 votes cast in the Senate since January 2007, including every vote this year until Thursday's. That's according to the Democratic National Committee, which keeps a tally.

"It's very hard, obviously. Will that show go on? I haven't the foggiest, especially since while Huckabee is still in the race, McCain has started to slip on the crown of the Republican Party. Regardless, the new Ohio Democratic Party Communications Director (and former Richardson comm man) Alex Goepfer can think of a reason why they should debate:

Referring to CNN's effort to still hold a Republican debate in Ohio, Goepfer said, "We are urging CNN not to cancel the debate in Ohio because McCain is more than capable of debating himself."
