"Old" RSC forums - Undivided

I posted this on the RSC forums and thought it might be a good idea to post it here as well.

I want to discuss our forums.

Before we go into what I want to talk about, lets briefly go through some forum history.

- Before the RSC forums were hidden from the public and classic itself was closed our forums were "larger".

By larger I mean a larger community and simple put a bigger forum "area". I'll go into the "area" a little later.

Once RSC was closed to all new users the RSC forums continued on its own path. We still kept our trading posts active and made requests for the botters to be banned, etc.

After awhile Jagex started to notice all the reports RSC users were sending in regarding RS2 "spam".

- Selling whip 5M. Whip is not in rsc. Still selling whip!!!

All "Active" users of the RSC forums were given a chance to post on a "review" thread. All anyone had to do was post there saying that they wanted to continue using the RSC forums as it would be closing in 2 weeks time.

Once the RSC forums were closed to all "outsiders" our forums became rather silent. With the game closed to new members we kind of became stagnate. After all no new information was really entering the forums. We might get a few how do I train X or where is this NPC. But in general the forums kept quit.

This in turn led to a few annoying trends.

The trend which I was most annoyed by was "Grave-digging" -bumping 2+ year old threads, just to make the original author look like a fool.
-Or posting on long "dead" threads which had been asking for help, which led to people trying to help a long "dead" op.

If someone was able to add a new insight to a "dead" thread I was alright with that, but when things get to the point of "Hey guys look at this thread I found! This kid still thinks Easter are 4m!!!! L O L!!!!" - Just got tiring to deal with honestly

After awhile of playing in-game players would run across users who had no idea that the RSC forums still existed.

This led players to post on others behalf, or make a request for a J-Mod to "grant" them access to the RSC forums.

This of course led to the RSC forum access request threads creation.

In amongst this time frame the RSC forum community had "two" "active" J-Mods to help around the forums.

And of course Mod Emilieeeeeeeeeee.

Mod Dave is the staffer that really tried to keep the RSC community going. He helped organize events and was the ONLY staffer amongst Jagex who took the time to BAN the BOTS of RSC! (Manual Ban for the Win)

Now I think I've covered enough of the RSC forum history to get into what I wanted to discuss O_o.

With our forums being to slow to a crawl most players discussed a possible "shrinking" or removal of the RSC forum sections.

The "old" RSC forums contained the following:

RSC General - Anything RSC related
RSC Marketplace - Trade items in RSC
RSC Pk-ing - RSC Player Killing
RSC Clans - Clans active in RSC

Here are the "new" RSC forum sections:

RSC Discussion - For any RSC topic not covered by the other forums
RSC Community - For RSC related trades, duels, events & clans
RSC Feedback - For feedback and discussion about RSC & the RSC forum section

We had dicussed it with Mod Dave over why we felt certain forum section should be removed.

I thought that the Pking and Clan forums should have been removed due to the fact that Pking was all but dead and their was only 3 active clans remaining.

As you can tell with what remains, our ideas seemed to have made it through.

But with all that condensing things have gone through I think we should reevaluate it slightly.

As it stands the RSC community section is mostly "reserved" for trading goods and little events are carried out.

I personally find it endearing that the "RSC Discussion" as it is stated, in its sub-description is basically RSC's own Off-Topic section. While the "RSC Feedback" section is really meant to be RSC's Discussion area.

So I ask, Should the RSC forums be re/worked/named to fit how they are currently being used?

I think the RSC Discussion should contain everyone's "clans" and eventing activities, while the Feedback section should be more "off-topic"

Although if all that was done it really boils the forums down into only 2 sections really.

In the end we all do our own things. No one reads the forum specific rules anyway O_o

I could just be over thinking this whole "mess" but I thought it was worth talking about.

At least I got to discuss the RSC forum history :)

I encourage everyone to add to this, what are the things you are noticing around these forums? What are some improvements that could be made, etc?

- On a personal note, I do not think we should close the RSC forums from public posting/viewing again. As that would means that I would have to log-on every-time I wanted to view the forums ;)

I know we get "spam" at times, but take the time and report it calmly and have a mod redirect the thread. Don't bite someones head off for posting here "wrongly". They could be making a honest mistake.

*Gah why we even have those forum specific rules! It's not like anyone reads them. Perhaps Jagex should make them a force read upon entering a "new" forum for the first time*

Hello everyone, Cremeans0 here and I have an idea of sorts.

You might want to be sitting down for this, I'll wait. Everyone is sitting down I hope. Paul I see you, get down from the ceiling fan!

Anyway, what would everyone think about the idea of Jagex allowing none veteran players of Runescape Classic access to world 1?

Now if this was allowed I think it should be done if a few requirements were met.

Those requirements could be:

1k Total Level
Completion of Legends quest
"Served" 1 year playing RSC. *

* What I mean by serve is that the account has been created on RSC for at least 1 year. That means the users who just created their accounts within the last 6 months reopening would be applicable within the year for their "start" date. Accounts which were reset would fall under that same category unless Jagex holds records that did show a previous start date.

Now the limitations of this idea would go to how could Jagex enforce this change.

For the completion of Legends quest they would have to add a few lines of code, which would recognize it's completion meant one of the requirements to access W1 was met. The same method could be applied to once 1k+ total level is reached that information is stored as a recognition, part "b" access requirement met, etc.

The other possible way to go about viewing those who have reached the proposed requirements would be setting up a thread for players to post on. Once they believe they have done all the tasks outlined, they would post their name and would gain access accordingly.

That was done to similar effect when the RSC forums were closed to "outsiders" before the game was reopened.

If any of you want to offer your views to this, feel free. If you think this should not be done at all state why or if you wish to add what you feel would be more "acceptable" requirements to access the vet world.

It just my feeling that once you have completed legends quest you should be seen as one, a true vet of RSC.

After all in order to complete legends quest you basically must have all skills to lv 50 and beat all quests in the game.

Doing that, to me seems like a show of great effort on the part of any player. It shows that the player is skilled and most likely knowledgeable about the game.

This also allows the new players of RSC a goal to aim for. If I was not a "vet" already I would see this challenge as being awesome.

- I complete all the quests, get my skills up and play for a year and I get the access a whole "new" server! Epic win ^_^

I leveled prayer to 52 and finally achieved 81 combat. I also got 64 defense today.

I'm starting to impose a new rule for myself. The "don't buy more then enough of an item to level a skill.

For example if I wanted to lv prayer I should not buy more then enough to get me a single level. As I have this tendency to not stick with long term goals =p

It also places less of a burden on me to complete something.

Of course this rule is void if it is clear that the market is going to raise greatly and would be foolish not to get now.

Two days ago I meet an old friend from my high school through Runescape. I was leveling firemaking in Draynor Village and I got a random PM. He asked me if I was my brother or if I was the other one. Since he knew my brothers real name I guessed he knew who I was.

He said that he knew I played Runescape and said he just started back up two months ago. Do know I did not really talk about Runescape to my friends after my Freshmen year of High school.

He said he is now attending College and still does not have a job. His poor mother is paying for it all, get a job man!

Anyway the moral of this story is always leave your private chat to: on. You never know who might find you, or you find them. Then again having my username match me so closely did help him spot me.

RSC Fight Club event, Dec. 3rd

You think you have what it takes to become a member of the RSC Fight Club?

Can you follow these rules?

1. You don't talk about RSC Fight Club
2. When someone says "Don't pwn me pl0x" the fight is over.
3. Only two players to a fight.
4. The fights go on as long as they have to.
5. No food, no weapons, no magic, no armour and no prayer may be used.
6. Lastly, you don't talk about RSC fight club. ;)

If you will follow the rules above you might have what it takes to join the club.

The RSC Fight Club was founded by Mod Dave. It is only fitting, that now that his presence is leaving us that we meet again and spill each others blood.

The event itself will occur:

Date: December 3rd
Time:

11 Pm Eastern
10 Pm Central
8 PM Pacific

World: 10
Location: Lumbridge castle's basement
Items required: NONE

Details:

To start the event off we will all meet in Lumbridge castle’s basement. Once inside our hidden base we will convene with the fighting’*. If you follow the rules there will be no problems. If you do break the rules other players will not be inclined to fight with you later, so don’t be doing that!

Fight everyone you can, high lvs, low lvs, I have seen fights go in odd directions in the past! Well you lv 3’s might want to avoid that lv 123. =k.

When you die from a fight be sure to run back to the basement in an attempt to get your vengeance!

If the basement proves to be a too confining of a location we will convene the fighting to the Lumbridge courtyard.

After the fighting starts to die down we can play a down home favorite mini game of mine. “Pick-up the swamp toad”. Those things are slippery little blighters!

Notes:

As this is a combat related event you might gain combat xp. If you are however a skiller and wish to partake in the action simply get fatigue to 100% and you will not receive any xp.

Since everyone has till Dec. 3rd to train combat to a none nooby level I hope to meet some challenge in the killing floor :P

Well it has happened, all but 2 of Mod Dave's posts are alive in the RSC forums.

For all of those who just arrived you will not know Mod Dave. But he was the only staffer outside of (Emilee) who cared to help out with classic, before he retired from Jagex.

Leaving us to be slowly beaten up by bots, because no one else at Jagex has since him, has banned a single bot here in classic. (No they still not have been banned here. They just don't play anymore)

Anyway thanks for being there for us Mod Dave when no one else would!

I hope some of the old users can still embody what you had offered us over the years.

Hello new players of Runescape Classic. With RSC fight club coming up and you not knowing much about the game I thought I would open myself up to offer a apprenticeship program.

What is that you may be asking the computer screen? Well it is my way to give in game advise to five new players of the game.

Before I get to far into the program here are the basic requirements:

level 10-30 combat
Must know how to make the cow symbol ]=(:)
Is not a "pure"
No begging for - items cash, doing so will mean - ignore list

Now if you want some one on one time with me, in classic, or are generally confused a lot while playing the game I can help you.

But since I'm only one person I will only be able to help five new apprentices. There is not a set time to meet up with me or anything like that, as some of us how, you know a J O B.

However while I'm on I'll be more then happy to help my new apprentices with any questions they might have or if they need a buddy to tag along while they quest.

I have always found those who beg for money on a game to be out of their good mind. I personally only encountered begging when I was on FTP worlds many years ago. That was to be expected I suppose.

But what gets me in this new, reopened classic is the reemergence if begging. What I find to be funny is this:

You PAY money to spend YOUR time begging for money. While FTP you did not... So ya, begging can't be all that fun is it?

I'm more then happy to help new players as long as they meet a few requirements:

Over level 10 CB
Name does not contain; pure, l337 speak, pker, rsc etc.

If they meet that alone I would be more then happy to give them something to get them started.

Oh now your saying, your being mean to the low lvs CreMEANS0! Well now here is why:

Players who have not reached at least 10 combat are not as likely to continue playing classic. As are others who just want free things and would soon quit playing the game anyway.

The name thing is I just don't care for pures, muhhahha.

As always, work towards what you want, sow what you weep. Some of you might want to read up on the children's story "The little red hen", the book has a good moral!

Hmmm as a quick reminder, do not trust fan sites for information regarding RSC, as most of them are paper thin.

Is anyone else noticing that most new users are picking the blue shirt when they start classic.

Is that the new default look if they don't do the tutorial island? Or they think it looks cool?

For me I picked red shirt, yellow pants when I first started, not like I ever standed-out.

Jagex has reopened classic to all members. Join in on the classic fun, today!

After the bank update that "killed" off botters Jagex waited a month to be sure none would return, or find a way to bot again. Since no bots ran back into classic Jagex decided it would be best to reopen classic to new players. Why for a new 2 week period? I have no idea and it seems silly.

Anyway if you want to start playing classic do so today! Also you start out with basically nothing and no stats. So loads of fun to start off. Please do no beg from other players, no one will give you 100k pl0x.

Removal of Bot of the week

With Jagex changing a lot of the RSC code it seems that the cheaters have been unable to "play" the game.

Which is wonderful =p Anyway I guess I start blogging more now and will replace that Bot of the week section with something else.

I wonder why in the fall months I never make videos lol =o It must be something in the air.

Classic Friends List - Expanded

Jagex has removed the long held issue with adding friends in RSC. We are no longer limited to 100 friends, now we get 200 friends.

So now I don't have to keep my friends list under 100 people.

Car crash

As I was driving to my university this old lady fails to yield and hits my pickup truck.

I have included some brief pictures of the crash.

In the end the my vehicle is totaled. The drive train/axle is more or less broken in half. Both rear wheels came out of there wells. The front left tire is flat. I had a steel tool box in the back of my pickup truck also. It weighs about 120 pounds, it went flying out of my truck (It was attached to the vehicle with two sided tape but still) I found it resting on the guard rail 20 or so feet away from where my vehicle stopped. The top lead for one of the chest parts is dent beyound belef. I had a fire extenguisher in the tool box, which I found flung out of said tool box and on the ground. It was a good thing that it did not explode.

For the old lady that hit me she only has damage to her front end.

Possible mini series

I'm thinking about creating a weekly mini series for RSC. All I need now is people who are consistently willing to follow my orders. Or people might just end up being killed off every other week.

I might post a request for "actors" once I completely figure out, in which direction I want to take the said series.
