Today I just wanted to do a quick update on some pages we have been working on recently. First of all, we now have the A Link to the Past Soundtrack added to our official Legend of Zelda soundtracks page. We will keep on working on this page and hope to get the Link’s Awakening files online soon.

Next we have updated our Zelda Fan Fiction page with another chapter to the Legend of Mizu by our forum member, Josie. She is a fantastic author so it is certainly worth a read. More fan fiction is also being edited to go online soon.

Finally, I just wanted to let everybody know that in a couple of days LegendZelda.net will be moving to a brand new server and will be getting an upgrade to our Zelda Forums.

Earlier today, the Official Nintendo Magazine posted a new interview with Legend of Zelda director, Eiji Aonuma. News about the upcoming Zelda Skyward Sword has been scarce lately and unfortunately this interview did not provide much more insight.

First of all, Aonuma was quick to restate that Zelda is not the mysterious feminine figure that we saw in the art work released at the round-table after 2009′s E3. However, he still refuses to delve into the matter much more.

The most interesting bit of information about Skyward Sword came from Aonuma when he said they were, “reimagining some of the traditional gameplay elements.” This meaning of course that the traditional elements of the Zelda franchise will remain intact, but that the development team is coming up with new ways to bring these concepts to us gamers.

An example of this can be found in this quote from Aonuma, “So what we’ve tried to do is to introduce some new elements – this time we have larger fields and there are dungeons that don’t really feel like dungeons but will incorporate some of those elements.”

During the interview, Aonuma was asked about the possibility of there being any vehicle for transportation. Though this was not confirmed, Aonuma did not entirely dismiss the notion and said that Link would have some way of traveling from Skyloft to Hyrule.

Lastly, Aonuma spoke briefly about the Ocarina of Time for the 3DS. For more information and to read the interview check out this link.

In other news, we are still looking for donations to support the site and renew our hosting for a year. We would appreciate all contributions.

Throughout this week they will be updating with the winners and their respective fields.

So far, The Exploding Deku Nut has won the Rembrant award, for the most visually appealing site. And the North Castle has won the The Philanthropist for being the site with the most community outreach. Both of these two amazing sites are affiliates here at LegendZelda.net so I suggest paying them a visit.

To stay updated on the Lozzies and who is winning what, please visit Loz.com

And last of all, just a reminder that our site donation drive is still continuing.

I was browsing through my old collection of Nintendo games today when I came across the original Mike Tyson’s Punch Out for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Since most of you visiting this site are Nintendo fans, I am sure many of you can remember the good old days of trying to beat Mike Tyson and all of the other classic fighters. So I of course had to dust off my old Nintendo system and give it a whirl.

Within a few minutes I quickly had Little Mac rising to stardom…but I was feeling like something was missing. Now that I have a Wii and have the whole experience of motion controls I found myself not satisfied with merely pressing a button to punch. There of course is the newer Punch Out game for the Nintendo Wii but even that is not quite the same. I began to wonder what I could play that would make the whole boxing experience more realistic.

So, after a quick Google search I came across this cool new boxing machine. This boxing machine is not exactly a video game, but it measures the strength and impact of your punch and this got me thinking about how Nintendo could build off of this concept to take the actions of its gamers and apply them to the in game features. So if Nintendo could do something like this with a punching machine, then imagine what they could do with the Legend of Zelda series in reference to concepts like this. Maybe a sword device for the Wiimote that somehow measures the force of the gamer’s swing and then transferred that power to the enemy and the damage could be directly related. These are just my thoughts. What do you guys think?

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is not even set to be released until 2011, and with 5 months still remaining in 2010, I think it is safe to predict that Skyward Sword will be 2011′s game of the year across all platforms.

Twilight Princess was released at the end of the Gamecube’s life on an already near dead console, and on the Wii which was not full in the market yet due to supply shortages. Still, with such disadvantages in its release period, it managed to sell near 7 million copies. When expressing feelings concerning low sales of Twilight Princess (despite being number 2 all time in the series), Miyamoto said, “a lot of the people who would want to play it can’t find a Wii!” As of June of this year, nearly 71 million Wiis have shipped, giving Skyward Sword a much larger market base than Twilight Princess had at its prime market life. Making a conservative estimate, I think it can be safe to say that Skyward Sword will, by the end of its life, sell a minimum of 8-9 million copies, even surpassing sales of The Ocarina of Time.

Sales is not all that determines a games place in the market however. While it is safe to assume it will sell quite well, it will also bring new things to the Zelda and gaming community alike. Every time a Zelda game is released it comes to much acclaim, but as Retro Studios fine tuned Metroid’s gameplay to the Wii’s emersive controls, the Wii-motion plus will do the same for Zelda. Gone will be the simple methodology of wailing on a fallen or unguarded opponent, and for the first time in the series will come true precision combat. As demoed at E3, the player will literally control Link’s Sword using the wii-mote. From precision attacks, to how Link yields the Sword, where he aims and strikes, the player will be in full control. No more will we only pull the sword out and swing wildly, this will be all about stepping into Link’s shoes and being in control.

Behind the game play will also be a brand new storyline that ties into the other Hylian myths already presented in past titles. While bringing out the nostalgia side in all of us through giving the origins of the Master Sword, and of course returning characters such as Zelda and presumably Ganon, we will also be seeing a new side of the myth and perhaps the very beginning of it all.

Nintendo has been known to make some controversial choices in graphics concerning The Legend of Zelda franchise, ranging anywhere from cartoons to the first ever T rated Zelda portrayed in realism. New to the series will be this surrealistic style that mixes vibrant colors and a rough palette with realistic designs. And to accompany the new graphics will of course be a fully orchestrated soundtrack, bringing new depth and excitement to the Zelda world.

On a final point, Nintendo always puts advertising dollars into its Zelda series and game critics have consistently rated the games in the high 8′s. 9′s and almost 10/10′s. Just adding good publicity to an already excited fan base, new graphics and soundtrack style, and brand new game play and controls and we are looking at the top selling and critically acclaimed game of the year, Zelda Skyward Sword.

While reading through their list I saw a Legend of Zelda moment that I thought was worth sharing.

Ign’s obsessive Legend of Zelda moment was called Legendary Lawnmower. This is diagnosed for those who cannot help themselves when it comes to breaking every pot in the game and slashing down every bit of grass in hopes of finding an extra Rupee or two. Does this sound like any of you? What other obsessive Zelda moments can you think of?
