ROBOKidz Representative to World Robotic Olympiad

ROBOKidz team named "Evolution Project" has been representative to WRO (World Robot Olympiad) that will be hell in Japan, November, 16-18 2008 as their achievement of contributing in Indonesian Robotic Olympiad held in Senayan Jakarta July, 5-6 2008. Evolution Project won as be Final Winner senior category of IRO (Indonesian Robotic Olympiad) competition. This competition use Lego Education Robotic parts, they come using NXT (the new generation off Lego robot). They must be finalizing 2 track using robot and also program needed to solve the problem. Finally the "evolution Project" got 303 point as the Final winner.

TIPS USING ROBOLAB (RCX programming robot software)

Frequently asked Questions programming using ROBOLAB and RIS.
The following is a list of frequently asked programming questions with possible
solutions.

How can I print out my program?
To print in RIS follow these steps:
1. On the keyboard, notice a key labeled “Print Screen..
2. With your program showing on the screen, hit that key.
3. Open MS Word (or your preferred text editing program).
4. Click “paste.” This should paste your program as a screen shot (picture of the
screen).
5. Be sure to save the MS Word document.
6. Repeat until your entire program is in the document.
Please note: Robolab™ allows you to print your programs in an easier fashion. In
Robolab™, Select File -> Print.
The sensors on my robot are not working.
Make sure the sensor is expecting feedback from the correct port. The RIS software will
take the next available port in the program, not necessarily the correct one. Make sure
the sensor is attached properly and to the correct port on the RCX. Did you connect the
sensor back to a different port than when you last used this program?
Sensor value doesn’t show in the RCX view window.
Make sure to download a program into the RCX that contains a sensor watcher and run it.
The sensor watcher must be set to the type of sensor and to the port into which the sensor
is plugged. (Basically, you are telling the robot what type of sensor input to expect from
which port.)
Verify that the correct program slot is selected. Run the program. Make sure that in
“view mode” the arrow is pointing to the correct sensor port. The RCX will then read the
correct information for that sensor watcher on that port.
I can’t access program slot number one.
In RIS: Go into the options screen. Click on the “advanced” tab and select to
unlock program slot #1.
In Robolab™: Go into the Administrator’s section. Click on the “RCX settings” tab
on the bottom of the screen. Click to unlock RCX program slots 1&2.
The RCX lost all my programs after I changed the batteries.
Download the firmware again. This will reinstall the five default programs. If you
changed the RCX by unlocking any program slots, you will need to repeat that process
after you reinstall the firmware. After this is complete, download your programs into the
RCX.
My robot keeps spinning in circles after I programmed it to go straight.
Check that the program uses a second set direction command to adjust the motors so they
are going forward. If that does not work, using the default program in slot number one in
the RCX, test that the robot moves in a forward direction as planned. If this is not the
case, adjust the wires connected to the motor, spinning the connection to the reverse
direction on one end of the wire, until it drives forward.
I changed a “My Command” (or “Sub VI” in Robolab™) in one of my
programs. After I downloaded my programs again, none of them works
properly.
A “My Command,” or “Sub VI” in Robolab™, is a miniature program that is accessible
by all of the programs that you write.
Beware: If you change a “My Command” or “Sub VI” in Robolab™ in one
program, you are actually changing it in every program it is used. To
prevent this, make a new “My Block” (or “Sub VI” in Robolab™) with a
slightly different name, copy the existing “My Block” or “Sub VI” and paste
it into the new one.

NXT Alpha Rex building instruction

The Alpha Rex comprises probably the most complex of the RoboCenter series of robots, both from the mechanical design perspective and the software programming perspective. The following discussion will concentrate on software programming of the Alpha Rex. The program described below illustrates two advanced programming techniques: state machines and abstraction. A state machine design handles basic movements such as tilting side to side and striding the robot’s feet forward and backward. Abstraction handles combining the basic movements into more complex movements, such as walking forward and turning right and left.

The inspiration for this program comes mainly from sources other than the Mindstorms RoboCenter software examples for the Alpha Rex. The RoboCenter examples perform basic movements such as walking forward and turning. However the examples are rather inadequate when it comes to combining basic movements into more complex movements, such as having your Alpha Rex move in a figure eight pattern. Furthermore, including such functionality as having the Alpha Rex walk around avoiding obstacles behooves the application of more advanced programming techniques.

The following sections describe these techniques in much more detail. The final section, following the description of these techniques, presents the development of a complete program for avoiding obstacles.

And we are the the participant, gives some alternate choice for the students how to increase their knowledge about computer and especially robotic that can help the student develop their logical skill, math skill, and maintenance skill.

Here we are "ROBOKidz" we come and we use the NXT Spike robot to show the students that the robot can controlled by mobile phones.

NXT baseball batter

Roll a ball at this robotic baseball batter, and it will watch the ball with the ultrasonic sensor then swing its bat to whack the ball at the right time. The better you pitch, the better hits you will get.

First you must complete the baseball batter building instruction, and then you must prepare your computer to send the program to the NXT, using ultrasonic sensor you can program it for 14 inches distance the ball will be hit by batter.

Use the program Baseball Bat for your Baseball Batter. This is a simple program that just waits for the ultrasonic sensor to see the ball then swings the bat back and forth, and repeats the whole process.

How to Use the Baseball Batter

Put your baseball batter on the floor
Run the Baseball Bat program
Roll a plastic ball directly towards the "eyes" of the ultrasonic sensor. When the sensor sees the ball at the programmed distance (14 inches), it will start its swing. If you roll the pitch at the right speed, then by the time the ball reaches the bat, it will get a good hit.

This is an amazing arm replicant robot. I has been try this construction 3 days ago and then there is an incredible machine for me, it works...... But, to complete this challenge all you need is 1 set of Lego NXT education 9797 and also 9648 for addition parts.
This construction contains many gear trains, so it can be 2-3 hour to finish this building construction. It has 3 motors to control the movement, it's affect for the arm movement, and the light sensor to detect the surface reflective light of thing, so you can filter somethings that the robot can detect it through light sensor. Are you ready for this challenge???? So if you want to finish this robot construction, prepare your NXT parts and here is the building instruction. it's free for you.Good luck.

This NXT project doesn't need complicated build or a lot of parts of Lego set. Only NXT controller brick for the environment, but this can be an advance programming level using NXT-G software.
The calculator program shown on NXT brick :

Well...... you may know how many variable that you needs.
And then how to input number?????
1. At the first time running program, all the number must be start from 0 (zero).
and the first position on number 1, increase the number using NXT right button, and decrease using NXT left button, wait until Enter/NXT enter button pressed.
2. When entered then position move to operator, there are 4 operator must be added, addition,substraction,multiplication, and division (using right and left NXT button as navigation) Then wait for Enter.
3. Move to number 2, as same as number 1 case, start from zero and we need right and left button for increase and decrease the number.Then wait for Enter.
4. When entered, the result must be shown on the NXT brick.

Example :

5 x 6 = 30
