Facts gathered from around:-
There is no way the truck could get up to the 143 mph touchdown speed in time to perform the trick and the truck's suspension would collapse under the weight.

According to Air New Zealand a 747 jet plane can land at a minimum of 124 mph. And the plane can keep the nose up to minimize the force on the truck. Hmmm...

This video is incredible because the nose landing gear of an airliner typically supports about 10% of the aircraft's weight.
Since a Boeing 727 has a maximum landing weight of between 137,500 and 164,000 pounds depending on the model, its front weight is between 13,750 and 16,400 pounds, while a Nissan Frontier has a maximum payload of 1,524 pounds.
Hence, the nose landing gear of a Boeing 727 is about ten times the maximum payload of a Nissan Frontier.

It does say fictionalization right before the commercial, but I would like to see what would happen if this was attempted. The max Payload of a Dodge 3500 full size pick-up is only 5100LBS and this is a mid-size truck advertised with a max payload of 1,446LBS. It would have to hold 1/3 of 9500LBS to survive the "crash" but what would happen if a full size truck actually tried this? Would the tires explode or would the truck just crumble under the weight of the plane. A full 3500 of 350 truck would have 12 ply tires vs 4 ply of the Frontier. I would definitely want to see them disprove this!!!

Also if that really happened that truck would have been crushed. There have many incidents where airliners smashed into cars, some even fatal, the SWA overrun comes to mind.

My first thought when I saw this was that, at the least, those tires would have blown. I'm sure they're not rated for high speeds under that type of load. The truck doesn't even have a 1-ton axle. Also notice at the end of the video that the suspension isn't even under load. Anyone with a reasonable mind would know that the bed would be bottomed out.

Looks like ONT has been pretty busy with filming commercials lately! The 722 sitting at the gate in the background is the owned by LAWA and used as a movie prop. It's usually sitting over at the old terminal. The (very) computer generated one in distress appears to be modeled after it

According to the Frontier Nissan's light duty pickup website, the Max payload for a new Frontier is 1,526=4 lb, with the SV V6 package with the Manual RWD tranie. A 727 nose on that truck would turn it into a pancake.

Miniatur Wunderland (German for miniature wonderland) is a model railway attraction in Hamburg, Germany and the largest of its kind in the world. As of January 2011, the railway consists of 12,000 metres (39,370 ft) of track in HO scale, divided into seven sections: Harz, the fictitious city of Knuffingen, the Alps and Austria, Hamburg, America, Scandinavia, and Switzerland. Of the 6,400 square metres (68,889 sq ft) of floorspace, the model takes 1,150 m2 (12,378 sq ft).

By 2020, the exhibit is expected to have reached its final construction phase, including at least a total of ten sections in a model area of over 2,300 m2 (24,757 sq ft).The section covering an airport was opened in May 2011. The exhibit includes 890 trains made up of over 11,000 carriages, 300,000 lights, 215,000 trees, and 200,000 human figurines. The creators will work on models of Italy and France now that the airport section is completed. The airport is named Knuffingen International Airport and is modeled after Hamburg International Airport. Possible future additions include Africa, England, or a futuristic landscape.

The construction of the first part started in December 2000 and the first three parts were completed in August 2001. The project was created by two brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun.

Six years, 500 million euros, 918 meters long,Magdeburg Water Bridge or Wasserstrassenkreuz in German, (52°13′50″N, 11°42′4″E), completed in October 2003, connects two important German shipping canals, the Elbe-Havel Canal and the Mittellandkanal, which leads to the country’s industrial Ruhr Valley heartland. The huge tub to transport ships over the Elbe took 24,000 metric tons of steel and 68,000 cubic meters of concrete to build. Barge captains will now be able to ship loads of up to 1,350 metric tons – the equivalent of 50 truckloads – over the 34-meter wide and 4.25-meter deep water bridge. Previously, ships could only be loaded with 800 metric tons. Serve as part of the unification project former East and West Germany,it is located in the city of Magdeburg, near Berlin.

High Line (New York City) coverted to urban park

Video:Robert Hammond on The Highline which is an old, elevated rail line that runs for a mile and a half right through Manhattan. And it was originally a freight line that ran down 10th Ave.

A green park created from a dense Manhattan by recycling of the elevated railway into an urban park similar to the Promenade Plantée in Paris.

Notably three buildings straddle the High Line & rail used to pass through many factories. The park's attractions include naturalized plantings that are inspired by the self-seeded landscape that grew on the disused tracks and new, often unexpected views of the city and the Hudson River. Pebble-dash concrete walkways unify the trail, which swells and constricts, swinging from side to side, and divides into concrete tines that meld the hardscape with the planting embedded in railroad gravel mulch. Stretches of track and ties recall the High Line's former use. Portions of track are adaptively re-used for rolling lounges positioned for river views. In addition there is the rusted, disused mullions of the old Nabisco Factory loading dock where the window bays are reinstalled with a series of 700 purple and grey colored glass panes. Each color is exactly calibrated to match the center pixel of 700 digital pictures, one taken every minute, of the Hudson River.

The High Line Park currently runs from Gansevoort Street, one block below West 12th Street, in the Meatpacking District, up to 30th Street, through the neighborhood of Chelsea to the West Side Yard, near the Javits Convention Center.

The 30th Street Cut-Out is located at the northern terminus of Section 2, where the High Line curves to the west. When Section 2 opens later this spring, visitors standing on the Cut-Out will be able to take in sweeping views of the Hudson River to the west, and the Empire State Building to the east. To the north, visitors will see the High Line at the rail yards. This rail yards section of the High Line comprises one-third of the entire historic structure. It is still owned by CSX Transportation Inc., the railroad company that donated the High Line below 30th Street to the City of New York in 2005.

Read following is the first public statement made by medical officers following the police denial that personnel had shot tear gas into hospital compounds on July 9.

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH (sworn affidavits)

We, the undersigned doctors, wish not to enter into the polemics of the Bersih 2.0 march on 9th July 2011 but would like to clarify the inconvenient truth.

We are outraged at the incidents, and the subsequent responses from the authorities, to the events where tear gas and chemical laced water were shot into the compounds of Tung Shin and Chinese Maternity Hospitals, two adjacent buildings along Jalan Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, with scant regard for the safety of patients, staff and the general public who were at the buildings that afternoon.

Hospitals are considered as safe sanctuaries for all, even during war times, but these consecrated places of refuge and protection were violated by the defence forces that afternoon. Police even entered the buildings in search of some of these peaceful marchers. What was most frightening and witnessed by many was the unprovoked violent assault within the hospital compounds and apprehension of several protesters who had merely run into the hospitals to seek shelter from the tear gas and the water cannons!

It is repulsive that the authorities entrusted with policing the nation and protecting the weak and needy, have shamelessly denied publicly, the occurrence of these incidents IN SPITE of countless photo/video and eye witness accounts of what was evident to all independent observers.

A few of the undersigned were actually visiting or working in the hospitals concerned at the time of the events and will gladly provide sworn affidavits, if required, as to veracity of the incidents

The Malaysian public expect holders of high public office to honour their positions accorded by the citizens, by discharging their duties with moral integrity, dignity and transparency.

Their failure to do so raises the public's doubts in their competence and credibilty as much as it demeans those high offices.

Update 11thJuly2011:Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said authorities would review their video footage of the protest to investigate the 59-year-old taxi driver who died during the protest -- the biggest in four years -- which police say he was a bystander who died of a heart attack. Allegations that police fired tear gas into a hospital compound will also be probed. Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein says the government will answer (the allegations) without fear or favour. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak says his concern is the security of the nation and the safety of the people and defended the police, saying the opposition-backed rally was a ploy to tarnish the country's image.

But rally organiser Bersih 2.0, a coalition of non-governmental groups demanding electoral reform claimed police fired tear gas canisters into the crowd, hurting people, and beat others and these were unwarranted attacks against a peaceful gathering of unarmed citizens was nothing short of shocking.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak on Sunday defended the government's handling of street protests demanding electoral reform on Saturday amid intense criticism heightened by the death of a demonstrator. Baharuddin Ahmad, a former soldier, a member of the opposition Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS), was fleeing after police fired gas canisters when he collapsed, his brother Mohamad Sharin told AFP.

KUALA LUMPUR - The police arrested over 1,600 ralliers on Saturday 09 July 2011 during clashes with protesters demanding poll reform ahead of general elections,who defied government warnings to rally in the capital for electoral reform. Tear gas has injured some as Malaysian police fired tear gas and water canon on the crowd as they march to a stadium and to the king's palace to hand over a memorandum detailing their demands. Among those injured were Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim who suffered a bruise on his head and a cut leg. His bodyguard however had to undergo minor surgery after he was hit in the left eye by a tear gas canister,reportedly taking the shot for Anwar.

Police brutality remains a concern as heavy-handed measures were employed to disperse what was a peaceful march until the water cannons and tear gas were deployed.Bleeding protestors were carted off by police personnel, while a man spotted on the ground with a fracture and his wrists bound in police-issued plastic handcuffs.He had boot marks on his pants and claimed that several police personnel had pinned him to the ground and kicked his leg. Leaders of opposition parties were among those detained during a massive security operation but it failed to thwart the outlawed demonstration which saw 50,000 people take to the streets of Kuala Lumpur, according to organisers. Among those arrested were protest leader Ambiga Sreenivasan and Maria Chin Abdullah(Reforms group Bersih 2.0-a broad coalition of opposition parties and civil society groups). Ambiga, former head of the Malaysia Bar Council, told AFP she was freed later Saturday without being charged. Abdul Hadi Awang, president of the Pan-Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS), the country's largest opposition grouping, was also arrested.

With elections expected to be called early next year, demonstrators were demanding changes to the voting process including eradication of vote buying and prevention of irregularities which they say marred previous polls.

Malaysian police may have crushed a weekend protest, but analysts say the crackdown has tainted the country's democratic credentials and could embolden the opposition ahead of elections.

Foods that Keep Bones Strong

Eat the following to avoid the risk for osteoporosis (literally "porous bone") or debilitating fractures and breaks.
Eat: About 5 ounces of lean protein (skinless poultry, fish, beans, low-fat or fat-free-dairy foods, nuts and seeds) per day for women, 5½ for men. (A serving of chicken or fish the size of a deck of cards is about 2 to 3 ounces.)
Avoid: Red meat, poultry skin, lard, butter, cream and tropical oils (saturated fat can thin bones).
Caution: If you are on a low-carb, high-protein weight-loss program, your body may leach calcium from your bones, causing them to weaken. The key: keep a good balance and make sure you consume enough calcium
Eat: At least 1½ cups of fruits and 2 cups of vegetables every day; more is even better. Choose a rainbow of produce, including greens, reds, oranges, blues and yellows. Satisfying your taste buds isn't the only motivation. Each kind of fruit and vegetable offers its own particular concentration and mix of nutrients. Evidence suggests fruits and vegetables create an environment that reduces calcium loss from bone. Also plant phenols and flavonoids provide compounds that bolster bone. Produce is also rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, which can help fortify bones and maintain the muscles that support them

Eat: Low- or non-fat dairy products (such as milk and yogurt), canned salmon and sardines (eat the soft bones!), dark green leafy greens, broccoli, dried figs and nuts. (Note: Spinach, rhubarb and beet greens provide less calcium because a substance called oxalate gets in the way of absorption). To absorb calcium, you also need vitamin D. Few foods other than fish and liver naturally contain vitamin D, so look for vitamin D fortified foods (like milk and orange juice) and ask your doctor if you need a daily supplement.
If you're under age 50, get a total of 1,000 mg of calcium from foods and supplements, if needed. Along with it, get 400 to 800 IU of vitamin D daily. If you're over 50, get 1,200 mg of calcium and 800 to 1,000 IU of vitamin D. (Your body can absorb about 500 to 600 mg of calcium at one time, so spread out your calcium intake. Have a calcium-rich food at each meal or as a snack. For example, have a glass of calcium-fortified orange juice with breakfast, eat yogurt at snacktime, and drink a glass of milk before bedtime.)

Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. Weight-bearing and muscle-strengthening exercises helped you build bones in your younger years. If you're over 30, the right physical activity will help you maintain bone strength. If you can't do high-impact weight-bearing activities such as running, try lower-impact exercises, such as walking, stair climbing (step machines), low-impact aerobics and elliptical training. For muscle strengthening, exercise with free weights or a resistance band.

• Magnesium: spinach, beet greens, okra, tomato products, artichokes, plantains, potatoes, sweet potatoes, collard greens and raisins
• Potassium: tomato products, raisins, potatoes, spinach, sweet potatoes, papaya, oranges, orange juice, bananas, plantains and prunes
• Vitamin C: red peppers, green peppers, oranges, grapefruits, broccoli, strawberries, Brussels sprouts, papaya and pineapples
• Vitamin K: certain dark green leafy vegetables such as kale, collard greens, spinach, mustard greens, turnip greens and Brussels sprouts.
Salt over the 2,300 mg or less limit could be bad for bones.(used both as a flavoring and a preservative in many meals and foods we eat)To reduce your intake:

* Eat fewer takeout and restaurant meals, and cook with less salt at home.
* Avoid high-sodium deli foods, especially smoked meats.
* Limit canned vegetables, frozen meals, condiments (e.g., salad dressings, catsup, mustard, etc.), tomato sauce and other packaged foods, since these products tend to contain excess sodium.

As for little non canned fishes I chew its head, bones and swallow all.
Papaya & sweet potatoes are sweet, good, easy to eat & relatively cheap here. I love cooked pineapples
with onions, soya sauce and some honey or sugar or oyster sauce.
Sweet potato leaves is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Vitamin E
(Alpha Tocopherol), Niacin and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin K

52-year-old British angler Jeremy Wade grapples with this ferocious-looking 'giant piranha' known as goliath tigerfish.
The giant freshwater fish has 32 teeth that are of similar size to those of a great white shark and has been known to attack humans and even crocodiles.

Wade, the host of ITV's River Monsters show, anxiously reeled in this specimen, which weighed more than 100lbs and was 5ft long and has been known to consume prey the same size as itself, attack people and take pieces out of crocodiles.

'It is very rare to catch one, especially by an outsider because they are found in such a remote and difficult location to get to. There are no guides or lodges on that part of the Congo River.'

Wade released it to the river soon afterwards who spent eight days trying to land the fish.

The Law of the Seed
Take a look at an apple tree. There might be five hundred apples on the tree, but each apple has just ten seeds. That's a lot of seeds!

We might ask, "Why would you need so many seeds to grow just a few more apple trees?"

Nature has something to teach us here. It's telling us: "Not all seeds grow. In life, most seeds never grow. So if you really want to make something happen, you had better try more than once."

This might mean:
You'll attend twenty interviews to get one job. You'll interview forty people to find one good employee. You'll talk to fifty people to sell one house, one car, one vacuum cleaner, one insurance policy, or a business idea. And you might meet a hundred acquaintances just to find one special friend .

When we understand the "Law of the Seed", we don't get so disappointed. We stop feeling like victims. We learn how to deal with things that happen to us.

Laws of nature are not things to take personally. We just need to understand them - and work with them.

IN A NUTSHELL
Successful people fail more often. But they plant more seeds.

When Things Are Beyond your control, here's something that you must NOT DO so as to be happy: You must not decide how you think the world SHOULD be. You must not make rules for how everyone SHOULD behave. Many times, such thoughts can bring you spiralling down into more unhappiness.

On the other hand, let's say you expect that:
Friends SHOULD return favours.
People SHOULD appreciate you.
Planes SHOULD arrive on time.
Everyone SHOULD be honest.
Your husband or best friend SHOULD remember your birthday.

These expectations may sound reasonable. But often, these things won't happen! So you end up frustrated and disappointed.

There's a better strategy. Demand less, and instead, have preferences! For things that are beyond your control, tell yourself:
"I WOULD PREFER "A", BUT IF "B" HAPPENS, IT'S OK TOO!"
You prefer that people are polite.. but when they are rude, it doesn't ruin your day.
You prefer sunshine.. but if it rains, it is ok too!

To become happier, we either need to:
a) Change the world, or
b) Change our thinking.
It is easier to change our Thinking!

IN A NUTSHELL
It is not the problem that is the issue, but rather it is your attitude attending to the problem that is the problem. It's not what happens to you that determine your happiness but rather how you think about what happens to you!

This is 'Faith

This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs - 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which had to be amputated. He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him. His first owner also did not think that he could survive and he was thinking of 'putting him to sleep'. But then, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him. She became determined to teach and train this little dog to walk by himself. She named him 'Faith'.

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfboard to let him feel the movement. Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him for standing up and jumping around. Even the other dog at home encouraged him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his hind legs and to jump to move forward. After further training in the snow, he could now walk like a human being.

Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he attracts people to him. He is fast becoming famous on the international scene and has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows. There is now a book entitled 'With a Little Faith' being published about him. He was even considered to appear in one of Harry Potter movies.

His present owner Jude Stringfellew has given up her teaching post and plans to take him around the world to preach that even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul'.

Armed with a credit card reader he bought for less than $100 on-line and a netbook computer, WREG On Your Side Investigators put Augustinowicz to the test. The report goes as experts at the Identity Theft Resource Center stated that they've never seen a case of RFID skimming used to steal information. Not all credit cards has RFID chip implemented. (Radio-frequency identification)
RFID is a tracking system that uses intelligent bar codes to track items in a store. RFID chips are very similar to barcodes. RFID tags do not have to be visible to the reading device. They can be scanned through clothes, wallets, and even cars. The distance from which they can be read is also much greater than that of a barcode.

How to block/kill RFID chips
A good quick fix. A layer or two of aluminum foil should do the trick. Just wrap your RFID card in aluminum foil which will retards the signal Easy way to test this is to take a cellphone, turn it on, wrap it inside something that will prevent its antenna from touching the cage (such as a sock?) then wrap it in aluminum foil, folding over the edges so the package is pretty much airtight. Then call your cell phone number from a landline, if you've done everything correctly the phone will be out of range and will not ring, but the call will go to voicemail.

Or Obtain a RFID Reader. If you pay for the reader you might as well buy a READER/WRITER. MAke sure you get a list of the frequency that the RFID reader/writer operates at. These units are good for creating mis-information because you can write false data to the chip (NOT YOUR PASSPORT!!!!) and carry some false info on the chip(s) in your wallet, so when someone scans you then they will see all the false data. Due to bad weather the mountain collapsed in Maierato of 2300 inhabitants (in Vibo Valentia) (Italy) just behind the power line towers and threatening the village below. Two hundred people were evacuated. Occurred in Italy earlier this year on Monday15th Feb 2010. In spite of this video which have the audio in Italian, the images show a dramatic example of an unstable soil, with liquefaction phenomenon! Python sebae is a non-venomous python species found in subsaharan Africa. This is one of the world's largest species of snakes. The snakes are armed with razor-sharp teeth and muscular coils that can squeeze the breath out of a full-grown antelope. The primary reason for the restrictions on its exportation around the world is because their skin is used in the leather industry, frequently being made into shoes, belts, and purses. With adults reaching lengths of over 6 m (20 ft), this is one of the world's largest species of snakes. The typical adult length is 4.8 m (16 ft) and rumors of specimens over 6 m (20 ft) are generally considered reliable, but larger specimens have never been confirmed. The color pattern is typically brown, with olive and tan irregular blotching, fading to white on the underside.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers who were supposed to record former private investigator P. Balasubramaniam statement in London has cancelled their trip. Balasubramaniam had flown to London from India after MACC officers contacted his lawyers to express their intention to interview him in connection with his retraction of statutory declaration and events surrounding the death of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibu. Balasubramaniam's counsel, Manjeet Singh Dhillon intended to highlight a whole series of events surrounding this Altantunya matter if MACC had come to London to interview Bala. According to Dhillon MACC had recorded no less than five statements from Balasubramaniam.

1)Balasubramaniam was hired as a private investigator by Abdul Razak Baginda after it was alleged that Altantunya was harrassing him for non-payment of commission after the purchase of submarines.

2)Abdul Razak Baginda, a former political analyst, who was charged with abetting in Altantuya's murder, was acquitted by the Shah Alam High Court on Oct 31, 2008 after the judge found no prima facie case against him.

3)After the death of Altantunya, Balasubramaniam had made a statutory declaration relating to the murder but withdrew it the day after through a second sworn declaration.

4)"The way Bala was treated after the first SD on 3rd July 2008; he was immediately apprehended, bribed, cajoled, threatened and removed from the jurisdiction of Malaysia," Dhillon asserted.

5)Balasubramaniam admitted that he was apprehensive about returning to Malaysia and alleged that he could be thrown into detention.

The press conference was also attended by Federal Territory Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chief Zaid Ibrahim, fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin and members of the alternative media, Bernama reports. 7) Financial payments by Razak Baginda to Altantuya, including the three US$5,000 payments by Baginda to Altantuya, which included a penalty of US$1,000 because of late banking in. Also the purchase by Razak Baginda of an apartment in Mongolia for Altantuya. Also the background to the US$500,000 payment demanded by Altantuya, how it arose, its link to the Scorpene submarine deal, Altanunya's involvement in the negotiations, and admission and confirmation by Razak Baginda that he should have paid Altantuya the money.

8) How Rosmah Mansor teamed up with Deepak to exile me from Malaysia, the threats to my family after I signed the first SD as well as the involvement of the PM's brother in the events that led to the second SD and my being smuggled out of Malaysia and asked to stay away till Najib Razak became PM.

9) I was asked to retrace the events in Rawang coffee house where Deepak, Dinesh and ASP Suresh were present.

10) The length and time I have been in exile.

11) Details concerning Altantuya's cousin, Ammy, who had knowledge of the Paris dinner where the PM and Razak Baginda were present with Altantuya.

12) The identity of the French individuals involved in the Scorpene deal.

4. Lonelygirl15 (2006)
lonelygirl15 was an interactive web-based video series which began in June 2006, and ended on August 1, 2008, with a Japanese dub slated for release in 2009. Lonelygirl15 was shown as the victim of some strange cult that kept her locked in her house.The show focuses on the life of a fictional teenage girl named Bree, whose YouTube username is the eponymous "lonelygirl15", but the show does not reveal its fictional nature to its audience. Lonelygirl15 first came to international attention ostensibly as a "real" video blogger who achieved massive popularity on YouTube. The show was eventually proved as a hoax by suspicious viewers as featuring a fictitious character played by American-New Zealand actress Jessica Rose. The three creators of Lonelygirl15, first revealed by the The New York Times, were Ramesh Flinders, a screenwriter and filmmaker from Marin County, California, Miles Beckett, a surgical residency dropout turned filmmaker, and Greg Goodfried, a former attorney with Mitchell, Silberberg and Knupp, LLP. Even though the entire thing was just a hoax, the web series remained popular until it ended in 2008.

Like i said before, I know the law, and this is for real.
Intel and AOL are now discussing a merger which would make them the
largest Internet company and in an effort make sure that AOL remains the most widely used program, Intel and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.
When you forward this e-mail to friends, Intel can and will track it (if you are
a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period.

The basic come on is that Microsoft or AOL (or both) is testing a new email forward tracking system, and if you forward the email, you’ll be paid based on how many times your email gets resent by your friends (their new software will keep track of it all, of course). Another variation of this hoax is that every forwarded email will raise money for some charitable cause. This persistent hoax has been circulating since 1997 in one form or another, and is still making the rounds today.

7. Giant Camel Spiders in Iraq (2004)

The camel spider is the friendliest spider in the world. When kept as a pet they are known to respond when called by name, curl up for a nap on their owners pillow and can even make a mean cup for tea! They are fearsome hunters, but are not venomous, though their bite may produce slight numbness and extreme pain. The email repeated claims from the first Gulf War in 1993, that the spiders could run 25 miles per hour, could jump several feet in the air, and could grow 8-10 inches in length. These claims were made more believable by the photo itself which was just taken from an angle that makes the spider seem bigger than it really is.

8. Kidney Thieves in New Orleans (1997)

Shortly before Mardi Gras in 1997, a hoax email started making the rounds warning travelers that a ring of organ thieves was operating in the city, and revelers were likely to get their kidneys stolen.

The organ harvesting urban legend had been spread in the past, but this particular email chain became so popular that it even prompted the New Orleans police to issue an official statement denying the hoax’s validity so that the city wouldn’t lose revenue from scared travelers canceling Mardi Gras plans. 9. Hercules the Dog (2007)

An email with what was purported to be a photo of the world’s largest dog started popping up in inboxes in 2007. Hercules, was supposedly a 282 pound English Mastiff who stood almost as tall as a horse, and the photo seemed to back it up.

However, even though a dog named Hercules was once recognized as the world’s largest, it’s not the one in the photo, and the photo is almost definitely a fake.

The breed now known as the English mastiff was brought to this country by Phoenician traders as early as the 6th century BC. After the Roman invasion, they were used to fight in arenas against other large animals such as lions. By the end of the Second World War the breed was almost extinct in the UK but was re-established with the help of imports. Mastiffs are the heaviest dogs in the world and the normal weight for a fully-grown adult is about 14 stone. Although bred as guard dogs, English mastiffs make very good family pets. They are good with children, rarely bark and tend to defend rather than attack.

11. Kremvax (1984)

A member of Usenet in 1984 created quite a stir when he announced that the Soviet Union would be joining the network. The message, which appeared to be posted from Konstantin Chernenko (with the address chernenko@kremvax.UUCP), was shocking because most people assumed Cold War security issues and hostility between the USSR and the USA would prevent the Soviet Union from joining Usenet. Kremvax was announced on April 1, 1984 in a posting ostensibly originated there by Soviet leader Konstantin Chernenko. The posting was actually forged by Piet Beertema of CWI as an April Fool's joke. In fact, it was only six years later that the first genuine site in Moscow, demos.su, joined Usenet. Some readers needed convincing that the postings from it weren't just another prank.

Blair Witch legend that these students were supposedly investigating: In 1785, a woman accused of witchcraft is banished from the village of Blair, Maryland, and a year later,her accusers and half of Blair's children vanish. The town of Burkittsville is established at the site of the abandoned village about forty years later, and over the next 150 years a series of child murders and mutilations takes place. In 1994, three students decide to travel to Burkittsville to film interviews with locals about the Blair Witch legend as a class project, and a couple of days later they disappear in nearby woods. No trace of them is found until the footage they shot is discovered under an old cabin a yearlater.

When the movie came out in 1999, a lot of people weren’t so sure that The Blair Witch Project was a piece of fiction. Due to a very clever Internet marketing campaign, in which the movie’s creators developed a network of background web sites about the movie’s mythology, many people believed that the film was actually a documentary created from found footage of kids who had disappeared in the woods.

13. Hurricane Lili Waterspouts (2002)
Sorry, severe weather fans, this photo has been doctored. The eerie phenomenon depicted above did not really occur. This photo, which flew around email inboxes in 2002, supposedly showed a trio of menacing water spouts approaching a container ship as Hurricane Lili rolled in.

Meteorologists were suspicious of the photo almost at once because it is very rare to see two waterspouts of that size so close together, let alone three. The original, undoctored photo actually shows a single impressive waterspout and was published in a shipping trade magazine called “Supply Lines” in 2001.

15. The Internet Drunk Surfing Bill (1994)

An article in PC Computing magazine written by John Dvorak described a bill going through Congress that would make it illegal to use the internet while drunk, or to discuss sexual matters over a public network. The bill was supposedly numbered 040194 (i.e. 04/01/94), and the contact person was listed as Lirpa Sloof (April Fools backwards). The article said that the FBI was going to use the bill to tap the phone line of anyone who "uses or abuses alcohol" while accessing the internet. The article generated so many outraged phone calls to Congress that Senator Edward Kennedy's office had to release an official denial of the rumor that he was a sponsor of the bill. VIA

Aggressive 5-foot-long jumbo flying squid with razor-sharp beaks and toothy tentacles have invaded the shallow waters off San Diego. The so-called Humboldt squid, which can grow up to 100 pounds, are native to the deep waters off Mexico, where they have been known to attack humans and are nicknamed "red devils" for their rust-red coloring and mean streak.

The carnivorous calamari came up from the depths 2nd week July and swarms of them roughed up unsuspecting divers with their tentacles enveloping their masks and yanking at their cameras and gear. The squid are too deep to bother swimmers and surfers, but many longtime divers say they are staying out of the surf until the sea creatures clear out.

Roger Uzun, a veteran scuba diver and amateur underwater videographer, swam with a swarm of the creatures for about 20 minutes and said they appeared more curious than aggressive. The animals taste with their tentacles, he said, and seemed to be touching him and his wet suit to determine if he was edible. In 2005, a similar invasion off San Diego delighted fisherman and, in 2002, thousands of jumbo flying squid washed up on the beaches here. That year, workers removed 12 tons of dead and dying squid.

Swarms off the coast — and the subsequent die-offs — may occur when their prey moves to shallow waters and the squid follow, and then get trapped and confused in the surf. Research suggests the squid may have established a year-round population off California at depths of 300 to 650 feet.

Wayne Rosso, whose Global Gaming Factory X AB company is buying The Pirate Bay for 60 million Swedish SEK (£4.7 million, 7.8 million USD) in August. He is currently working with London music executives to create a viable legal version of the notorious torrent website. Pirate Bay four founders and hosts were jailed and fined for copyright infringement offences. (On 17 April 2009, Peter Sunde, Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm and Carl Lundström were found guilty of assistance to copyright infringement and sentenced to one year in prison and payment of a fine of 30 million SEK (app. 3,620,000 USD; 2,385,000 GBP; or 2,684,000 EUR), after a trial of nine days.) The defendants have appealed against the verdict and the judge was accused of bias. Despite the trial the website has been unaffected.

The Pirate Bay is a Swedish website that indexes and tracks BitTorrent (.torrent) files. It bills itself as "the world's largest BitTorrent tracker. Launched in 21 November 2003 it has revenue from advertisements, fees, donations & merchandise.

On 31 May 2006, the website's servers, located in Stockholm, were raided by Swedish police, causing it to go offline for three days. According to the Los Angeles Times, The Pirate Bay is "one of the world's largest facilitators of illegal downloading", and "the most visible member of a burgeoning international anti-copyright—or pro-piracy—movement".

The Pirate Bay's new regime will offer fans unlimited legal music downloads for a small monthly fee, though a hierarchy uploading scheme could see users' fees lessened depending on how much they use the site. Under a "cloud" network system, users will be encouraged to dedicate their own hard drive space to the site. The more of your computer resources you contribute to the network, the less you pay down to zero. Asian employment at risk in prolonged downturn

Asian reliance on exports and rising commodity prices is running a challenging rising unemployment but lower levels than in major economies for now. Many Asian economies rely on exports to the United States and Europe to drive growth. But if demand is falling and consumers are losing their jobs, there can be little upside for supplier. Nomura economists said in a report on Asian economies that Hong Kong, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand are most exposed in Asia to the global crisis.

All are registering double-digit peak-to-trough declines in GDP growth and the impact on the region's economic activity as a whole is now worse than during the Asian crisis, it added. Spending power throughout Asia are eroded where exporters under pressure to cut costs as consumers in recession-hit economies cut spending. This vicious cycle is offset in Indonesia, China and India by their large domestic sectors to buffer their economies against the slump in world trade. Though these economies may avoid recession, growth will slow. Singapore's jobless rate is at a three-year high of 3.3 percent, South Korea's is at 3.9 percent, its highest in nearly four years, and in Japan unemployment has hit a 5-Â½ year high of 5 percent.

Cutting jobs in Asia can be difficult with the social stigma attached to cutting jobs, labour laws and a lack of a social security safety net make layoffs a difficult process. Take for example loss-making Jet Airways in India. It sacked 800 flight attendants but after protests and political pressure the workers were reinstated and the chief executive apologised to staff within days.

Beyond unemployment, there is also disguised unemployment, where more people are employed to do a job than are needed, and underemployment, where workers are not fully utilised.

Thailand, Malaysia and Japan are taking similar steps to South Korea's government who is giving tax benefits and other advantages to companies that keep or add jobs by "adjusting" wages and work hours.

Hitachi Ltd, Japan's biggest industrial electronics group, and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd are trying to keep jobs by asking staff to take unpaid leave.

Unemployment can be a leading indicator of a prolonged slump when there is uncertainty about whether a recovery will be quick, slow of occur at all. Employers wait to see that the upturn is sustainable before making a commitment to hiring new staff in coming out of a downturn. People who have lost their jobs don't have the spending capacity they did while employed. Those still in jobs rein in their spending and increase their savings in case they are next.

The fall in commodity prices since last year had reduced business costs and improved profit margins for Asian firms, limiting the need to cut jobs but with the recent rise in oil prices raises the risk that firms in Asia face greater pressure to lay off workers. Profit margins would be squeezed as raw materials prices rise just as manufactured goods are under pressure to fall.
