A Hot Minute

Well, I guess it's been a hot minute since we've talked.
I go back and forth about this place.
Sometimes I miss it, and sometimes I just really treasure being in the moment. Not having to schlep my big camera around, putting my phone away, and just living without thinking about a potential post. The rest of the time, well I miss reliving memories through posts. I really miss writing, and I miss all the amazing connections I've made through this blog.
I'm not quite sure where I'm going with this... but uhh hi. Happy to be back, or something. ;)

In other news, how wonderful is today?!

I am so so happy that every single one of my friends gets to feel this happy one day....

I'm looking forward to a little date night, birthday celebrations, and watching two incredible people get married. Okay, and our 1st anniversary just happens to be on Monday. Marriage is awesome guys!! #lovewins

Festival Style.

I know, I know we've still got a couple of months to go before music festival seasons starts but I can't help but get festivals out of my head. This year I have two festivals on the agenda, FNGRS CRSSD (a new festival with a ridiculously fantasical lineup) in San Diego, and dun da dunnn, Coachella. After having one of the very best weekends of my life at last year's Coachella I can't wait to relive all the madness. The people, the music, the madness, the energy, the style... I freaking love music festivals.

Let's just say ripped jeans, crotchet tops, ankle boots, and uhh a spray tan are in my festival future. ;)

First Look

My heart went thump thump thumpthumpthump as I walked out of the hotel room and towards my future husband. Going through the photos, I know that there were tourists everywhere, but at the time I didn't notice any of them. All I could think about was Nadav, and that we were finally getting married.

So many emotions, so much excitement, and I was so ready.

I am so happy we did a first look. Being together right before our wedding took away so many of the nerves and let the importance and beauty of the day really set in. My mom was like, "What?! You're going to walk around the beach in your wedding dress before the wedding." Ya mom, I did and it was the best decision.

Lovers that snorkle in Kauai. ;)

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that." Very wise words by Martin Luther King Jr.. Words that we should all think about, especially in this time and place.

Much more lighthearted thoughts:
- The camera on my phone has been broken for awhile now, and what do you know? I just got myself a new phone with a perfectly functioning camera. Woohoo, you know my Instagram game is about to step itself right up.
- Not going to lie, I'm looking forward to the end of football season, and having my husband back on Sundays. ;)
- Pilates is my current drug of choice. I take classes 5 or 6 times a week and I just can't get enough. I've never stood so tall, carried myself so gracefully, and well.. have never been in such good shape before. If you've never tried pilates you have to give it a chance, it's so wonderful. :)
- Beach bike rides with my husband are still my very favorite.
- I just recently rediscovered my love for Sex and the City and have seriously watched two seasons in the past day and a half. Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha you're still rubbing me the right way.
- I'm on the hunt for new books to read. Suggestions anyone?

Getting Ready

Waking up on your wedding day is a weird thing, isn't it? You wake up, and know that your life is about to officially change forever and ever.

You reach for the bedside table and decide you can't wait to read the letter your husband-to-be wrote for you even though you're really not supposed to read the letter until right before your first look. (Okay maybe that was just me, but I decided that I couldn't wait. =P).

You obviously start crying, that's probably also just me, but I cried about 500 times that day.

You get up, decide you need to keep it cool, and get some coffee with two of your best friends who have spent the night in a hotel room with you.

The three of you walk along the beach and you become freakishly calm.... well you stay calm until you're ready and realize it's time for your first look with your soon to be husband.Then you start freaking the crap out on the inside because ohmygod you're getting married today, but pretend you're totally cool. ;)

Honestly, all the excitement and nerves aside, our wedding day was without a doubt the very best day of my life. Everyday I'm thankful that I get to call Nadav my husband. There's no one else I would rather go through life with.

White "getting wedding ready" robes weren't really my thing. I opted for a colorful funky one instead. At least I know what I like right?! ;)

Have I ever mentioned how much of a Daddy's girl I am? Because well I am a huggge Daddy's girl. Let's just say I cried every time my dad came near me on our wedding day. It was a slight problem hehe.

I wore my grandma's wedding ring on our wedding day. She was probably the strongest woman I have ever known.

When you don't have bridesmaids, and your best friends have left you to get ready for your wedding, your brother has to step in and help you put on your grandma's earrings. That's love right there.

I got ready for our wedding at the Pantai Inn at the La Jolla Cove, and I highly highly recommend it. It's a cozy, yet beautiful Balinese inspired hotel overlooking the ocean. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's wonderful once you step on the grounds.

Our wedding was nontraditional in many ways. We chose to not have a bridal party, and instead had our immediate family stand under the chuppah with us. It was perfect, and so us... and our friends didn't have to worry about purchasing bridesmaid dresses and renting suits. I'm pretty sure they were stoked about that whole thing.

Franco from the Koda Salon did my hair (he cuts my hair regularly and I LOVE him), his friend Gustavo did my makeup (he rocked it!), our videographers Jack and Hannah were with us for every second of the day, and our amazing photographers Orange Owl Photography blew us away with how perfectly they captured our day. Thank you thank you thank you!!!

Hanukkah at my parentals. It was the very best.

Well it's been awhile, like a few months?
I guess I just needed a little break from social media, the computer, and mhmm even my phone.
A little privacy if you will, but I've started to miss this place. It feels good to be back, to write and to connect.
(Okay and way too many people in my personal life have told me they miss my blog, and I need to get back to it. I guess I'm easily convinced ~~or people miss creeping on my life and somehow I'm okay with that hehe~~ =P)

Life is good though. :)
Married life is the ish, San Diego is beautiful, and I've been busy having fun.
I've taken a few trips since my last post, and I have a couple awesome ones already booked.
I'm looking forward to sharing, and starting to make this space feel a little bit like home again.

In typical Nadav and Tammy fashion, we booked a very last minute trip to Florida. So last minute that we leave tonight, except that we might not be leaving tonight because we're flying standby. Ohh shenanigans...

Travel confusion aside, we do know that we would like to spend a couple of nights in Miami and a couple nights in Key West. Other than that we don't have any plans. =P

Now we really need your advice South Florida savvy friends.

Where should we go, what should we do, and well where should we eat (cuz you know we love to eat).

Feel Something

Isn't it amazing how music can make you feel something? I mean really feel something. A memory or smell you haven't thought about in years, the excitement and nerves you felt while walking down the aisle to your future husband, feeling awkward at senior prom, or even sitting in the back seat as a little girl and listening to your sing "Yesterday" by the Beatles. Oh and then the feeling you get when you're able to buy your mom tickets to see Paul McCartney, and you both sit together and sing. Aaahh, #unreal

Oh music, I love it so so much.

Not that the pictures in this post have anything to do with that, but I'm not really in the habit of taking out my phone/camera when I go see shows. I would rather enjoy the music and feel whatever it makes me feel. Happiness, nostalgic, sad, or just straight up lucky to be standing there and feeling something.

I also saw Chromeo Wednesday night and they were sooooo AWESOME. They put on such a great show. :) If you ever have the chance to see them DO IT!

Hukilau Lanai

While in Kauai Nadav and I decided to treat ourselves to a fancy schmancy dinner (honeymoon splurges ya know =P) at a restaurant every local we met recommended to us. My advice? If every local you meet on vacation tells you to check out the same restaurant you make sure you go.

But I digress, we listened to those locals and made reservations at Hukilau Lanai in Kapaa. Hukilau Lanai prides itself on using fresh fish and local produce, and it shows in the quality and taste of their food. Every single course of the $50 5 course menu with wine pairings was phenomenal! I know, I know $50 per person isn't cheap but I think it's a good value for a 5 course meal with wine pairings. :)

Hukilau Lanai was seriously out of this world delicious, and we were that "just right" kinda tipsy by the end of our dinner. Perfection.

If you're in Kauai you HAVE to try Hukilau Lanai, you'll love it!

Kauai Day 6: Secret Beach, Anini Beach, and the Wailua River State Park

I know, I know.. I totally lagged on finishing blogging about our Kauai trip, but let's ~~start~~ ~~daydreaming~~ go back to day 6.

It was a beach beach beach, and some more beach kinda day. I guess that's the kinda thing you do in Kauai, right? ;) It was also the day we had the very best meal of our trip, but more on that later.

We started our morning on the North Shore and headed to Secret's Beach. An absolutely stunning beach that really looks like it belongs in the movies. It's beauty just unreal. Park near the houses that are right by the path that takes you down to the beach. Expect to hike about 10 minutes downhill until you see what really looks like paradise. Spend a few hours, relax, and enjoy the beauty. We didn't snorkel at Secrets, but saved that for our next stop along the way.

Ohhh stay off these rocks you mean? Woops.

After a few hours living our honeymoon dreams at Secrets we started craving a good snorkeling session. We had heard some good things about the snorkeling at Anini Beach Park and decided to head north and give it a try. The beach wasn't the most beautiful but the water was calm and we saw a ton of sea turtles. If you have the time check it out, if not.. you're probably better off checking out other beaches on Kauai. ;)

Next up, we drove south and made a little pit stop at Wailua River State Park. The area is so green, and straight up looks like like a scene out of Jurassic Park, or maybe it really is a scene out of Jurassic Park considering the movie was filmed on Kauai. ;) Either way, the Wailua River State Park is filled with secret little streams and paths, definitely worth a little detour.

We spent the next few hours enjoying the yummiest meal at Hukilau Lanai, but more on that later. If you are going to Kauai make sure you hit up Halekai Lanai it's SO GOOD.

1. Seeing Paul McCartney last weekend. The Beatles are basically my very favorite band, and watching Paul McCartney perform is probably one of the coolest things I've ever done. #Thankful
2. Photos from our wedding, engagement session, and Europe trip that are finally printed and ready to be framed. It's the little things ya know?
3. Long, lazy dinners with great friends.
4. The kids I work with, and their ability to keep me silly.
5. The relationship I have with my mom and how it's changed over the past year. Sometime over the past year we really became good friends. I'm so grateful.
6. Thinking about the past year. The very good, the bad, and the hopes for the next year. Reflecting is oh so good for the soul.
7. Nadav's laugh, it also keeps me silly.
8. Pilates, and how it's changed my body. Seriously, I am 30 years old and somehow just figured out that I am supposed to activate my lower back and stomach muscles when standing and sitting up straight. Psh, the things pilates has taught me.
9. The show, "The League". I know I know, it's an old show, but we just recently started watching it on Netflix and I flipping love it. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much while watching a show.... especially a show about a fantasy football team. It's good ladies, it's reallll good.
10. The people in my life who keep me grounded and love me. You know love is what makes the word go round... or something ;)

Bertrand at Mister A's

San Diego Restaurant Week, is you know, one of my favorite things.. ever.
I love love love to eat good food, and San Diego Restaurant Week makes good (pricier) food a whole lot more affordable.

*For the record I thoroughly enjoy a cheap, hole in the wall Mexican restaurant just as much as I enjoy a fancier restaurant, but hey it's fun to switch things up here and there. Did I mention that I love restaurant week? ;)

But I digress, Last weekend Nadav and I were lucky enough to enjoy the most delicious restaurant week meal with two great friends at Bertrand at Mister A's in Banker's Hill. The food was excellent and, the wine pairings just added to the fun. Mister A's is located on the top floor of a high rise building and overlooks Downtown San Diego and the harbor. The views are incredible, I definitely recommend reserving a table outside right around sunset.

For the first course: scallops and wild Alaskan tuna tartare. Soooooo good

I ordered the braised lamb osso busco and it was delicious. To be honest I'm not a huge red meat fan, but the waiter recommended it and I went for it. I didn't regret it ;)

Ehh.. sorry for the lack of better food photos. In all of my foodie excitement I managed to leave my fancy camera in the car, and it was too dark to get better foods with my point and shoot camera when it was time to eat our entrees and dessert. I promise though, the food was delish.

Good news: restaurant week was extended until October 3. You can still go enjoy a 3 course meal at Bertrand and Mister A's for $45. Dooooo it!

It's Just Too Hot

San Diegans are not used to heat and humidity. Ughh humidity. A lot of us don't have air conditioning because there's usually no need for it, but about 2 weeks ago it was so hot in Southern California that we all ~~wanted to vomit, spend the entire day at the pool, cough up the money for air conditioning~~ couldn't deal. I know, I know I sound very spoiled but I swear, living in San Diego kinda sets you up for that kinda thing.

On one such freakishly hot day, Nadav and I had elaborate plans to go surfing on the way to Orange County to visit my parents, but we made a little detour and ended up at Disneyland. Surree, we'll go on a ride or two, it will be wayyy too hot to stay any longer than that.

Wrong-O friends. Wrong-O.

It was so flipping hot that California Adventures and Disneyland were almost empty and it was fabulous. We spent the entire day at California Adventures, walked onto most rides, and welp went on the log ride a few times.

Okayyyy and prior to that wonderful day I had actually sweet talked my way out of riding the Tower of Terror. "No no.. the line is just way too long, let's go get a margarita instead," was one of my best lines. Unfortunately we had no such excuse that day and we made it on the Tower of Terror. I am kind of a baby when it comes to heights, but I loooooooved the Tower of Terror. Seriously, how could I have avoided it all this time. It is now officially one of my very favorite rides at Disneyland. If you're planning a trip to California Adventures make sure you go on Tower of Terror it is AWESOME.

There's even a winery at California Adventures. Sigghh I love it.

Oh you know, just rocking heart sunglasses over my eyeglasses. Nothing know here, carry on.

We stopped in at California Adventure's Wine Country Trattoria's bar and lounge for dinner. We both ordered a wine flight and shared a couple of appetizers. It was our first time there and we really enjoyed it. :)

The entrance to Disneyland during Halloween time is so so good.

Oh Disneyland you make me feel like a little kid again. ;)

This Summer Has Been..

This summer has been about...

- Reflection. Reflection about who I am, what I want, and where I want to end up.
- Slowing down. Appreciating that I don't have to worry about spending every free second planning our wedding. Aaahhhhh.
- Mornings at the farmer's market, days at the beach, evenings at pilates, and dinner with my husband and friends. I heart Cali in the summer timeeee.
- Organizing. Seriously going through closets and cabinets we should have organized 4 years ago. It's embarrassing, and frankly I'm straight up embarrassed about how long it's taken us to organize so much of our crap. Sure we've been distracted by life, vacations, an engagement, and you know that whole wedding thing but I'm vowing that we won't ever get this distracted again. It's shenans.
- Reconnecting with my inner music lover. Concerts, shows, and lots and lots of dancing. Good music makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
- Decorating. Changing things up, trips to Ikea, Homegoods, and Bed Bath Beyond. I am feeling oh so good about these changes.
- Surfing, I've tried it before, but something clicked a few weeks ago and I've been bitten... by the surfing bug that is. I want to go everyday now. #cantstopwontstop #okaynotreally hehe

--oh and for the record, yesss I know. I haven't been posting as much as I used too, but I'm okay with that. What can I say? I'm living life away from my computer and I think that's a good thing. ;)

Honeymoon Helicopter Ride

Kauai + helicopter ride + no doors on aforementioned helicopter ride = the face I am making in the photo below.

Oh and yes, Nadav decided it would be a good idea to wear his GoPro on his head like this while we were on the helicopter ride. I laughed heartily, but the video he took is pretty amazing. I promise to share it once it's edited. ;)

If you're in Kauai and are up for a little splurge I highly recommend doing a helicopter tour. (We went with Jack Harter Helicopters and they were great). It was an incredible experience and there really is no better way to see Kauai. We even flew right over a 360 degree rainbow, how cool is that?! Apparently Kauai is one of the few places in the world where it's possible to see one.

Aahhh take me back.... pretty please.

Hideaways

On our third day in Kauai we headed out early and drove north to Hideaways Beach. Hideaways has about 10 parking spots, and even at 8am they were all taken.... so much for sleeping in on vacations eh? ;)

Luckily, Hideaways is right next to the St. Regis Resort... and their oh so friendly valet parking service. We ended up valeting at the resort, and surprise surprise valet is complimentary. We left our valuables in the car and started the hike down to Hideaways. The hike takes about 15 minutes and is straight downhill. There are ropes to hold onto while you hike down, but I definitely slipped a few times. The views, the sand, the snorkeling... they took my breath away, and the schlep down to the water was so so worth it. Hideaways was definitely one of my favorite places in Kauai.

Oh and then if one wanted to they could crash the St. Regis pool for a few hours...... not that we would know anything about doing that. Cough wink wink. If you need towels just write down a fake hotel room number and fake last name when you walk up to the pool towel guy, but really we wouldn't know anything about that. Just make sure you tip the valet well when you leave. ;)

It rains in Northern Kauai, a lot. Usually, the rain comes for about 5-10 minutes, and the sun comes right out. Either way, I would recommend bringing waterproof bags like we did to keep your stuff dry while you're in the water. While we were snorkeling at Hideaways a major downpour hit... and it was kind of amazing to feel water pouring down on us while we swam. Aahhh Kauai.

After snorkeling we stopped at the Kilauea Fish Market for lunch and it was... okay. Very overpriced and just okay tasting. ;) We also took in the views at Kilauea Lighthouse and stopped for shave ice in Kapaa.

We spent that evening at Hanapepe Art Night and really, really enjoyed it. Hanapepe is a small little town on the way to the west side of Kauai that holds a little art night every Friday night. Art studios stay open, food trucks come out, and performers line the street. Hanapepe Art Night made for a sweet little date night on a very sleepy island. :)

Waimea Canyon

On our second day in Kauai we headed west to check out Waimea Canyon, which is known as the Grand Canyon of Kauai. The views are stunning, the cliffs are so green, and the hikes were no joke. Definitely a must do when visiting Kauai.

Also, check out the red sand. It's all over Kauai, and yes it does stain your shoes and clothing. If you're planning on doing a lot of hiking on a rainy day and are maybe a tid bit clumsy, it might not be the best idea to wear white. Not that I would know anything about that....

A little pit stop at the Waimea Canyon lookout.

Pu'u Hinahina Lookout hike. I can't remember the name of the hike but it overlooked The Kokee Canyon and provided beautiful ocean views.

Lunch at The Lodge at Koke'e was not that great, but it was overpriced. It's also the only restaurant on Waimea Canyon. Your best bet is to pack a lunch in the morning if you plan on spending the entire day in Waimea.

After lunch we ~~showered in~~ put on bug repellant and started the Waimea Canyon Trail to Waipo'o Falls. The trail takes a few hours and you'll find yourselves hiking uphill for a big chunk of the hike, but the views are stunning. You'll get to hang out in a small waterfall and then hike to a waterfall that is at the top of a veryyy high cliff. Absolutely beautiful.

To be totally honest, we struggled a bit to find good food in Kauai. Eventually we started asking locals where they eat and ended up at Korean BBQ in Lihue. Packed with locals, Korean BBQ was delicious. Korean BBQ chicken, kimchi, and straight up goodness. If you're in Kauai you have to give this place a try.

Kauai's North Shore

Our honeymoon in Kauai was wonderful. Kauai's beauty is indescribable, so green, so lush, it really takes your breath away. Kauai is slow, quiet, and is perfect for a honeymoon (cough, everything closes at 9pm which makes Maui more fun if we're going to compare islands here, but that's neither here nor there. =P).

We stayed on the East Shore in a not so awesome hotel. I try to keep things positive around here, so I'll keep the name to myself. Feel free to email if you want to know more. ;) Although our hotel wasn't the best, it was in a decent location. We were about 45 minutes from the North and South Shores and a little over an hour from the West Shore. East Kauai is also less touristy which means lower prices and much, much better food than we had on other parts of the island.

And now I give you,
Kauai Day 1.

We woke up early on our first morning and made our way North for a full day of exploring and snorkeling. Our first stop on the North Shore was Tunnels Beach. Arrive early when visibility is best, and you can actually get one of about 7 parking spots on a side street. The snorkeling at Tunnels was so so good. We saw so many tropical fish, and even found ourselves at a "turtle cleaning station", which is basically a name for an area where sea turtles come to have their shells cleaned by little fish that eat whatever has collected on their shells. It's really amazing to watch.
**We also happened to arrive at Tunnels just as the most intimate elopement was taking place on the sand. It was magical. I was almost a teensy bit jealous that we didn't have such an intimate wedding, but then I remembered that our wedding day was the best day of my life and instantly felt better. =P

Have I mentioned that I am a mosquito magnet? I already had about 10 bug bites on my legs on our first day in Kauai. ;)

After we had had our share of snorkeling at Tunnels we drove to the end of the road and made our way to Ke'e Beach. Parking is rough at this beach, but the scenery and beauty is worth the shenanigans. Ke'e also has great snorkeling, and sits along the most beautiful Napali Coast cliffs. I've heard that the water can be rough here, but it was quite calm on the day we visited. We swam out into the water and made our way along the rocks to a little secluded beach, which became a lot less secluded once a kayaking tour landed right next to us. ;)

After a few hours at Ke'e Beach we drove South to Princeville and checked out Queen's Bath. Queen's Bath is a small pool that forms when the waves crash over the rocks. It's really pretty, but would probably be best appreciated in the early morning when there aren't a ton of tourists there. What can ya do? ;) Either way explore the rocks and water around Queen's Bath there are cliffs to jump off of (obviously I did no such thing =P) and lots of sea turtles.

After a couple of hours at Queen's Bath we continued our drive south and found ourselves at a stop that overlooks the Hanalei Valley's taro fields. Gorgeous right?!

We ended our day with a fancy dinner at Tidepools restaurant at the Grand Hyatt in Poipu. The restaurant and views were beautiful, the service was good, but to be totally honest... the food was okay, and it was really expensive. I wouldn't recommend it. ;)

And now I will start to catch up on you know the past month or so. Comic-con, Kauai, our wedding photos from our amazing wedding photographers, and just straight up good ole times. Ohhh and it's Shark Week, which is basically one of the best things that could possibly happen to TV. RESPECT.

Today though, let's go back to Comic-con 2014.
Gazillions of people, insane lines, celebrities, and straight up craziness. Have I mentioned that there were gazillions of people, wooooshhhh deep breath. Anyway here are some photos from the madness.

1. A Kauai honeymoon that was the perfect mix of relaxation, adventure, and beauty.
2. Coming home from that Kauai honeymoon to San Diego. I just love my city so much.
3. Going to sleep and waking up the sounds and smell of the ocean. Did I mention that Kauai was beautiful. ;) My senses were quite pleased.
4. Coming back to this blog after a bit of a break, and feeling excited to write all over again. I missed this place.
5. Calling Nadav my husband. The novelty has yet to wear off.
6. Taking the time or organize and go through junk we really need to get rid of. Organization makes me smile. ;)
7. Catching up on all my favorite Bravo shows after a week away. It's the little things you know? =P
8. A manicure and pedicure. Aahhh
9. Snorkeling with sea turtles. They are seriously the most amazing animals.
10. Spending the afternoon at the beach with one of my very, very best friends and her family. Today will be a good day.

Kauai Trip Advice Anyone?

The husband and I are heading to Kauai tomorrow morning and we are soooo excited. Normally, I obsess over what we should do and where we should eat when we travel, but this time around I've fought the urge to plan every second of our trip (I know, I know I'm that girl). We want to leave lots of room for relaxing and hanging out at the beach but want to make sure we don't miss out on the must do's of Kauai.

Help a blogger out here. Okay a blogger who has seriously neglected her blog lately. ;)
What do we HAVE to do? Where should we eat? Did you go on any amazing hikes? Where did you snorkel? We can't decide.. when we visit the Napali Coast should we do a helicopter ride or a catamaran tour? (okay so I did do a little research because I am intense like that about traveling hehe)
