Sophia Narrett has created some of the most painterly embroidery I have seen in a long time. Each stitch is treated like a brushstroke, giving these narrative scenes a lush, dreamy quality. The colors seem blended, the textures happenstance, but they are not. Every thread is purposeful, which is one of the most intriguing qualities to me about embroidery. Narrett has a solo show up at Space Gallery in Portland, ME right now, I Was Dreaming This, if you want to go obsess over them in person.

It's been a while since I've posted some music, but lately I've been cooking with the windows open and Pandora on so I've been making playlists in my mind. I was listening to the Patsy Cline station early last week and over the weekend (it's so good! promise.), and I heard 3 songs in a row all by ladies named Barbara. That got me perusing my music library a little later and you know what? Barbara must be a golden name for the musically-inclined because there are a bunch of them. Barbara Acklin, Barbara Lewis, Barbara Lynn, and Barbara George among them. I could listen to these women sing all day.

While I Was Gone...

I went to Dallas. My sister's solo show went up and was a phenomenal success. We went to the lake house and I didn't want to leave at all. I got to spend time with one of my closest friends. I played tennis. I came home to Boston. I turned 28. I slept in. Corbett took me to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and it was great. Corbett also surprised me with a tiramisu cake(!). I signed up for a crochet class and am slowly getting the hang of it. The city bloomed. I planted some new flowers.

It's good to get away.

Seeking Warmth

You guys, it snowed again yesterday. Again! Oof. My blood has not yet thickened enough to withstand a snowstorm every weekend. I know that puts me firmly in wuss territory up here, but the continual presence of sleet, flurries, and slushy ice puddles has me roaming around the house wrapped in a blanket (when I can't dive back under the covers and burrow, anyway. Yes, I am super lame in the dead of winter).

One of these lovely, hand-processed wool blankets from Mexchic would be perfect for such wintry non-activity. Don't they look cozy?
