2017 Athfest

The AthFest Music & Arts Festival brings the best local and regional musicians and artists to Downtown Athens, Ga. By incorporating multiple events and venues throughout downtown, AthFest is able to reach a broad range of audiences and attracts an eclectic mix of lifestyle interests. The festival showcases the best talent in the Athens area, and generates huge awareness for the nonprofit, AthFest Educates, and its mission to provide much needed funding to support music and arts education for youth. In addition to all of the awesome Athfest happenings, listed below, venues and two outdoor beer gardens will have great domestic and craft beer on tap, including brews from Devils Backbone Brewing Company from Virginia and local Athens brewery, Southern Brewing.

Green Man in Georgia

Since 1997, Green Man Brewery has been at the forefront of the craft boom in Asheville, North Carolina. Their legendary ales are loyal to traditional English styles, with a flavor and quality that keep their fans coming back for more. The brewery recently expanded with the addition of an impressive “Green Mansion” for packaging and specialty brews next to its original production facility & taproom, with an indoor/outdoor taproom and an incredible view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A trip to Asheville is not complete without a visit to the Green Man!

This summer, Green Man sent its first shipment of beer south, and its beers are now available throughout Northeast Georgia. Available now are core offerings: IPA, ESB, and Porter, and three limited releases: Rainmaker DIPA, Sunseeker Pils, and Wayfarer IPA. More great things are sure to follow from the Green Man! Ring in the New Year at Southern Brewing

Southern Brewing has already made its mark in Athens, Georgia with a variety of special events – fundraisers, Wild Intelligence, bike races, and the first annual “Holiday Hootenanny.”

On December 31st, SBC will be hosting a new tradition – New Year’s Eve Party and Breakfast! The brewery will be closed for normal Thursday tours, and instead will open 8:30pm – 1:30am for a $25 tour that includes hors d’oevre and breakfast after midnight. Karaoke, fire pits, and of course your favorite brews on tap will be highlights of the night, along with a NYE countdown on the projectors.

Ring in 2016 with family and friends at SBC, and happy holidays!

2015 GABF Winner

Every year, hundreds of breweries gather in Denver, Colorado for the Great American Beer Festival (GABF). This year was one of the best, with many break-out new breweries, delicious new brews, and of course the fan favorites. Thousands of beers are entered into competition for Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in many categories, and winning one is absolutely a cause for celebration.

We’re pleased to be a distributor of the 2015 winner of the Silver Medal for Dortmunder/German-style Oktoberfest styles – Longboard Lager from Kona Brewing, and encourage beer patrons to try this award-winning style this fall. Longboard is a classic from the Hawaii brewery, and has been winning awards for well over a decade at events like GABF, the World Beer Cup, US Beer Tasting Championships, and more.

Bark & Brew 2015

One of my personal favorite beer events every year, Bark & Brew is just plain FUN. It’s a free miniature beer tasting at the new Mutty Paws dog resort property in Watkinsville. There will be more than 30 beers available to sample, live music, and a casual dog show with prizes from Terrapin Brewing. The Athens Area Humane Society will be accepting donations (since it’s free, why not donate for a good cause?) but you DO need to RSVP on the website here, as this event is small and will “sell out” quickly.

Other Stuff

Please bring friendly, well-socialized dogs only.
Park in the Mutty Paws parking lot or in the adjacent bank lot.
You must be 21+ to sample the beers (bring photo ID), and children and dogs must be attended at all times.
Bring folding chairs for you and a leash for your dog(s).
Also bring along a water bowl and plastic bags to pick up after your pooch. Attendees take full responsibity for the safety of their dog(s) and children.

Dress weather-appropriate and arrange a designated driver! Be safe! AAHS will have bottled water for sale.

In case of thunderstorms, please check the Facebook page of BREWTOPIA EVENTS LLC before you head to Watkinsville. If the weather forces cancellation, we will post the announcement on the website asap.

Starr Hill's Sweet 16

September is Starr Hill‘s birthday month, and the brewery has a calendar full of events and special releases in the tap room. Beers on deck to be tapped include the brand new Hopfetti Triple IPA, Debut #5 Maple Brown Ale, and Shakedown Imperial Chocolate Cherry Stout. Try some of Starr Hill’s lineup here in Georgia at your local package store or growler, or take a little trip to Charlottesville and enjoy some freshly tapped from the brewery!

Aviator Brewing Lands in Athens

This week, Leon Farmer and Company proudly announces the arrival on Wednesday of our newest North Carolina brewing partner, Aviator Brewery from Fuquay-Varina. Aviator’s journey began in a former airplane hangar, but the brewery has grown to include a large brewing facility, tap room, and two brewery restaurants (one under construction right now!). We hope you enjoy their beers as much as we do!
