I wish I had some input into what is shown. Their normal viewing time is anywhere from 3-6 and that is the times that shows like SpongeBob are on.

Store Brand Formula

I really see no difference in store brand formulas and name brand other than the price. The reason that many name brand formulas are more expensive is because store brand forumlas are not as heavily marked with branding, and also because they are not given to hospitals for free. When branded and given away, they have to make their money back somehow.

I am ashamed to say, I have never been to a Pier 1 Imports store....BUT looking at their Website, they look like a PERFECT store for me!

Sparkin' Barbie

Yesterday after eating Turkey, I decided to venture to my dad's basement. A place I haven't really been in almost 7 years since moving out on my own. I had one thing in mind when I went down there. Some Christmas presents for Haylee! I knew there was a tote down there that contained all of my old Barbies, doll house stuff, and play kitchen things.

I spent most of last night, and a good part of today cleaning everything up. Trying to get the mildew smell out of Barbies hair, and bleaching the kitchen stuff so it's sanitary for the kids to play with.

While cleaning the things, I was playing a bit of course and started playing with my Rollerblading Barbie circa 1991.

Tangled

We were so lucky to see a Pre-screening of Tangled in 3D today. Thanks to Disney Stars - Ohio and Rave Theaters, my daughter and her best friend Bailey had an amazing day celebrating her friends birthday!

If you remember, a couple of weeks ago I posted about the Disney Triple Feature. Well today was the day we got to see one of the movies.

I was very excited to hear that a good friend of mine, Gina from A Wrestling Addicted Mommy was going to be there as well.

I was a little nervous being as it was only Haylee's second movie, and it was in 3D. I was worried that she wouldn't want to keep the glasses on, and that she would get bored after awhile, but she did amazing. It kept her attention the whole time.

Bullies

With all the press surrounding bullying these days, it's become a topic that we have started to talk to Haylee about. Sure she's only 4, but she has been receiving end of a bully....but she has also been the bully.

When I say Haylee has been the bully, let me clarify. She wasn't being "mean" in her eyes, she was joking. Now let me say, I'm not one of those moms that have the "Not my little Johnny" attitude. If my girl does something wrong, she will get disciplined...and 9 times out of 10, even if it WASN'T her fault, she will still be talked to and let know that it was wrong.

So what happened was Haylee has this bff at school. Let's call her "Amy" for arguments sake. Well Amy is a bully...and Haylee got sucked in. Amy has been telling other kids to, "eat grass" and calling them, "baby" and telling them, "you're not my friend!". Haylee has been joining in on this...or rather HAD been joining in on this. I was assured this morning that it has gotten much better this week and my wonderful daughter has been sticking up for these kids!

Jon and I decided to go the route that we would explain to her that she needed to tell Amy, when Amy is being mean, "Don't be mean to him/her! They are my friend!" And it's worked! Haylee's teacher told me that she has been doing much better with it, but that it has made Amy mad at Haylee. The day after Haylee started this, she got a dose of her own medicine and Amy was mean to Haylee telling her they were no longer friends. According to teacher, that really upset Hay...but since then, Hay has not bullied anyone and has made MORE friends because of it.

Bully crisis, averted....for now at least!

Nancy Drew

I LOVE mystery games. Clue has always been my favorite board game, and when I hear of it being on an electronic device, like a computer I get so excited!

When I was contacted by Family Review Network to test out a Nancy Drew game by HERinteractive, I was really looking forward to it. While I have never read any of the Nancy Drew books, I knew it was mystery series and knew it was right up my alley.

I was set a copy of the new game "Trial of the Twister". I have seen some pretty cheesy mystery games, so I wasn't expecting much. To say that the game exceeded my expectations is a complete understatement! I LOVED IT! It challenged me, and that was awesome.

One thing that I really liked was the option for two different difficulties. You are able to play as a Junior Detective (easy) and are able to have a task list, a list that will tell you the things you need to complete. As a Senior Detective (hard), you are on your own.

Silly me decided I was billy bad butt and started right on the hard one. Like I said, silly me! I quit and went for the easier setting. I am looking forward to going back and trying it again on hard to see if there are game differences and if I am able to get though it myself.

I would recommend this game, and the other I was able to review "Secrets Can Kill", for pre-teen and teens. It's a bit much for younger kids to understand I think. At $19.99 a game, it would be a perfect gift for a holiday or birthday.

A trusted brand in packing school lunches has always been Ziploc! Ziploc doesn't just come in your typical quart and gallon sizes anymore...and they aren't just for food anymore either! They come in a wide variety of sizes including a tote size for large objects, and even storage containers with snapping lids.

Have you ever sat down with a bag of potato chips with the intention of only eating a few, only to find that the next thing you know, they are almost gone?! Eating healthy is a hard thing to do when you sit down with a bag of chips. One of my favorite things to do with my Ziploc bags are to pre-package snacks. When my chips are pre-packaged in smaller snack sizes, it makes it easier to know when to stop.

Thanks to Family Review Network, I had the opportunity to review a few the sizes of the storage bags, and a few storage container. I'd have to say, the Ziploc Storage Slider Bags are my favorite. The only reason I see those better than the others is that they are so easy to close that even my 4 year old could do it.

I absolutely love the storage containers for food transportation! My grandma makes THE BEST homemade chicken noodle soup. I don't care what the weather is, if we're sick or not, Grandma's chicken noodle soup is a must have in our refrigerator. We have tried several containers for transportation, and they always end up leaking. As soon as I received my containers, I knew the ultimate test. When we used the Ziploc containers, not a drop of the delicious juice spilled out!

I am a bargain shopper and have tired the cheap zipper bags. Let me tell you, they do not compare AT ALL to Ziploc. I have found there are just some name brands that you HAVE to have, Ziploc is one of them!

Teething sucks!

We are having major issues with Zak and his darn molar's! He has three in, but this last one is giving him so much trouble.

Poor boy's butt is so raw from loose stools, so much drool, and a runny nose....all symptoms that his big sister got as well.

He hasn't napped today and is exhausted! I have him in his bed, and mean me is just letting him cry it out. Nothing is soothing him...he just needs sleep.

We were very luck with Zak that he could be on any formula. Haylee is soy and lactose intolerant and had to be on special EXPENSIVE formula.

Parent's Choice meets all of the FDA nutritional standards just like all of the national name brands. It offers complete nutrition for babies 0-12 months of age. And it is available in a range of formulas to address common feeding issues.

With the recent recall of Similac formula's, even CBS's money watch is suggesting parents switch to generic formula such as Parent's Choice.

They say in their article that many parents are reluctant to switch their child's formula even though there is a significant price different. The Infant Formula Act of 1980 has guaranteed us that all baby formula sold in the US meets minimum nutrient requirements and FDA regulations. Just because you pay more for your babies food, doesn't guarantee that it's better for baby, or as we're seeing today, safer.

Dear Fall...

Let me first start off by telling you how much I have missed you!!!

I am excited. Fall has officially hit Ohio! It is hoodie and jean weather, rainy (I don't really miss that part! lol), the leaves are falling, and we're thinking about trick-or-treating!

I made my FAVORITE fall dessert the other day and it tasted so good! The taste of pumpkin just solidified the fact that it's FALL!!!!!!!!

We have our first Trick-or-treating this weekend. My dad is a season camper and his campground is hosting their trick-or-treating this weekend. We are very excited! As I previously posted and review, Haylee will be Jesse from Toy Story, and we FINALLY found Zak a Buzz costume!

I can't wait to post pictures of them all dressed up!

The Boy Who Changed The World

An important message that we teach our kids is that you can make a difference! "The Boy Who Changed The World" by Andy Andrews is a wonderful children's book that teaches just that.

The book tells the story of four boys who grew up to change the world. We first learn about Norman Borlaug and how he fought world hunger. We are then introduced to another boy who grew up to change Norman's world. Basically, the book is about the Butterfly Effect. What we learn though out the book that each of them wouldn't have been able to accomplish their change without the other three. I read it with Haylee, my 4 year old. The story was a bit much for her to understand but would be perfect for some older school aged children.

Not only was the story very well written, but the illustrations were amazing! I think Haylee, loved those the most.

The story also made me curious about the men and had me doing a bit of research.

The Least Among You

“The Least Among You” is production of Lionsgate and presented by Witenuckle LLC & Rough Diamond Productions, based on a true story. The story follows Richard Kelly, an African American man jailed in the 1965 Watts Riots. Kelly is put on a years probation and forced to attend an all White seminary as an alternative to jail.

Given the time and place the movie is set in, the story began with a lot of racial tension. Kelly eventually finds comfort in a friendship with the seminaries grounds-keeper, his roommate, and a the only female staff member. Kelly continually battles for what is right, and is met with many challenges along the way.

The story line was pretty good. The only thing I really didn't like was that in some parts it drug out. It took awhile to get to a lot of plot points.

Being a Christian movie I wasn't expecting to see a lot of the big name actors that I did. The movie has Louis Gossett, Jr., Lauren Holly, William Devane and Cedric Sanders in it

Overall, I would recommend The Least Among You as the story is good.

Pre-paid phones

6 years ago, when I got my first pre-paid, your options were very limited. You got a very basic phone to make calls and text. Now you can even get a Blackberry No Contract phone.

We currently pay over $90 for an unlimited data, text and phone plan for Jon with his iPhone. Boost has an UNLIMITED Blackberry plan for $60! Umm...hello! Can you say Leslie is stupid! LOL We will be re-evaluating our cell phone plans once our contract comes due.

The reason we love the iPhone so much is it's ability to stay in touch with our Social Network. I am constantly checking my Facebook and Twitter. When I took a trip to Iowa to visit my mom in June, I used sites like Facebook and Twitter to keep my family updated on how my trip was going. I would update at state lines, at rest stops, and when we stopped for lunch. My aunt actually mentioned it to me. She said that while I was on the road driving there and home, she would login to see what state I was on, and how much longer until I reached my destination.

Boost has a variety of "Web ready" phone for you to keep in contact with your social network as well. You are able to choose a Blackberry Curve for only $149.99. As I mentioned above, an unlimited Blackberry plan is only $60 a month! What a great deal!

If a Blackberry isn't your thing, they also have the Motorola il, with an unlimited plan of $50 a month.

I fully plan on checking out Boost in a few months when our contract is up, I hope you do too!

Milestones & life updated

Yesterday was Zak's 1 year check up. He is such a monster! He is 24lbs and a little over 31in. He did wonderful. She said his development is right on track, and he's ahead in a few areas. We were concerned that maybe his ear were giving him problems. He has been a CONSTANT fuss butt lately but she said they looked perfect. I wish these molars would get through already. Two down, and two more to do. So after 4 shorts and an order for a lead test per our insurance, we were on our way home with an even bigger cranky butt!

Haylee...she just amazes me. Her vocabulary, her understanding of things, her sensitivity toward her brother, her humor! She has me rolling all the time with some of the stuff she comes up with. She starts back to school on Tuesday and is just as excited as I am. While I love having her home, it's nice for her to be able to socialize and have a life apart from the family for a few hours every week. She'll be going for a little over 3 hours a day, 4 days a week. She has the same teacher as last year so she's happy. Miss Julie also told Haylee when we had a meeting with her last week that a lot of Haylee's friends will be in her class again. This is a rough time for her because a few of them went into Kindergarten this year and she didn't understand why they wouldn't be there.

Hay's birthday is also coming up in a little over a week and we're super excited! We're having a Webkinz Jr theme party with lots of pictures and a review to come for some of our party favors.

I think I am going to take an idea from another blog I frequently read, Habitat 4 Insanity, and try to post once a week updated pictures of the kids, and some of our adventures.

I also have a few cool reviews and giveaways coming up in the next week.

I am starting to feel stretched thin again. I have life here at home, this blog to run, a design to update for a former client at my other blog Lay It On Me Designs, Pampered Chef to do...*wipes forehead* a mom's work is never done!
