Sopwith Camel F.1 1/48

Okay so i started this one before my last post, but didnt have enough material for anything really.

Eduards Sopwith F.1 Camel Profipack #8056

This kit, is my first Eduard Aircraft, so the first usual feelings were there. aprehension with using a new company, will the detail be good, will there be little cleanup, (although i must admit somtimes thats half the fun ) Are the decals going to be good?

Firstly, a Miniscule Overview of the kit

Instruction book contains 24 pages, I must poin out in a very Erratic order, going 1,2,3,4,19,20,7 e.t.c. so i presume someone was on weed whilst Stapling these together, not with the conventional 2 staples may i add, this crazy SOB used one. man thats living life on the edge.

Instructions have some nice colour painitng guides,(for 8 Schemes, unfortunately, thay are all green) the instructions are very clear and include rigging diagrams, and the trusty old paint chart ,not much more i can say.

we have 2 sheets of decals, one with all the RFC roundels and the Tricolour tail stripes. and the other with plenty of different markings for all the paint schemes and all of the aircrafts serial numbers e.t.c

part count is quite high for one of these kits, 80 tan styrene parts, 4 clear styrene parts, 11 resin parts 4 pre coloured PE harness parts, and going by the highest number on the regular PE sheet 41 pe parts, but there are duplicates. and not forgetting the express mask for peopel who airbrush. not people who are lazy ( no , thats not me at all)

Building It

Now if there is one thing i have found out its that unless i build like a Monkey on speed i dont get anything done and loose steam a quarter of the way through because my Nan bought some Mr. Kipling cakes round and i just couldnt help myself but pig out on them. So the plan was to barge Straight into this Mofo as soon as it came through the door.

 <the href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_N7rc2LmHH4E/S3FQzZSMZII/AAAAAAAAABU/z94ICcjrxO4/s1600-h/P1010638.JPG">

Engine primed and glossed ready for alclad>

So the start of the build was a lot of the usual stuff, cutting sanding (not much sanding though) and construction of the cockpit, the seat had some nice PE wicker to place on it, or a really tacky looking Transfer,

so as im not shy of PE i went for that one. cockpit walls were painted tamiya dark yellow, and then a wooden effect was painted on the spars and beams with Burnt umber and burnt sienna oils.

Good old argos, i remeber going in to the shop as a kid, and i wasnt a big fan,

work in the brand new store in barnstaple ( near tesco if your interested).

Kitwise,

been on and off the past few months, been 7 months since my last post. WOW!

okay, on the bench at the minute is Eduards sopwith camel F1 8056 Profipack,

it was an amzing kit as i opened the box, and my first foray info Building ww1 Biplanes in 48th Scale.

not an easy task, or nor for that of the faint hearted. also my first foray into using alclad. hmm...

SO, pictured above are the kits i will be working on, finishing, failing to finish, ruining, or building fantastic kits with, the one i am most looking forward to is the polikarpov I-15, has a tonne of resin goodies, pe and the like, Referring back to the picture, i have two of the profipack camel kits, Thanks hannats, ( they said i hadnt oredered from them since 08, but then why did the order say confirmed, and the money go out. fortunately its a great kit. so im not too bothered.)

plus at 15.99, wow. i had to chip in to the Fokker E.V a little, to test the Lozenge decals, apparently the colour is a little off, but that dosent bother me. that kit ( eduard 8069 ) looks great, some really nice paint schemes, im not clear on whihc one i will choose though. pre painted PE in this one, for the lazy of us...

in my opinion, you sometimes just cant beat dial detail, then transfer, and gloss or future over a standard plastic dashboard, or instrument panel as you techies call it.

Special hobby.

The special hobby kits look good, i really like their kits for some reason, despite them being short run, and me being a "inexperienced" aircraft modeller. some interesting builds there, having the trusty soviet biplane, the I-15, and the Heinkel 178 V2, being the "first jet plane of the world" to put it in Special hobbys Frail english. these of course are short run multimedia kits that i would only reccomend to beginners with vast supplies of patience and steady hand syndrome. for those of you who dont know short run kits are kits made by smaller manufacturers, by lo tech means, which can make them dificult to build, ( no Alignment pins, flash, more cleanup more filling) and somtimes contain vacuform canopies *Shudder* and resin, and most of the time Photoetch.

the Polikarpov has around 33 Styrene parts, with some nice panel lines and Ribbing detail, 13 PE parts, Markings for 4 aircraft. and no less than 46 Resin parts. wow. all that for around £11 and in 1/48 aswell, nice.

The Heinkel 178 v-2 comes in a smaller box to the Polikarpov, and consists of around 30 Styrene parts, unfortunately there is a slight inconsitancy between panel lines in the new eings for the kit ( longer wings used on the v-2 variant) and the panel lines in the older sprues from the original release of the kit ( early 90's????)

kit comes with 2 resin whel wells, 1 clear styrene part, 14 pe parts and a clear slice of film for the Dials. markings for one aircraft consist of 2 "Heinkel" decals.

i just ordered a soviet apc to go with the figure aswell, if it turns out how i want that is.

i wonder how many people actually read this drivel?
