How To Be Strong And Live Long

Do you know that there are possessions you must possess this year? Your eyes might have seen great things in the past year. The Lord must have been so kind to you for which you have shown your appreciation, yet that is not the end of your story. You still have a lot to possess! I’m persuaded you still have a desire yet to be met. But how can you move forward to possess the land?

Do you know that you need to be strong to possess your possessions? What is the secret of gaining sufficient strength to move on and possess that which belongs to you?

Keep God’s Commandments

‘Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong and goi and and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it’(Deut 11:8)

Look out for divine direction in the new year and absolultely obey God’s leading. The more you do this, the closer you’ll move to taking your possession. It is an absolute necessity for you to ‘move in’ and ‘possess the land’.

Be Strong In The Lord

‘Finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might’. Your strenth will come from God. Never look for man’s help. It will waste your time and frustrate you. Look up unto God and he will help you. ‘ I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help: my help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth’. (Ps. 212: 1-2) This singular step will scare away curses from you and attract abiding blessings of God. ‘Thus saith the Lord: cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arem, and whose heart departeth from God’ ( Jer. 17:5)

If you keep God’s commandment and make him your strength, there is guarantee that you will overcome and live long.

The New Born King

The New Born King

This lesson was shared with brethren at the carol service staged by the CACSA (Christ Apostolic Church Student Association) at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria main campus on Sunday 11th December, 2011.

Let’s read Mattew chapter 1 vs 1-17. You’ll see the geneology of Christ there. Some of the above scripture reads thus:

‘The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the son of Abraham.

Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Pahares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;................

And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ’.

When you reflect on the passage above, you’ll find how Jesus was a natural descendant of Abraham and David. Two great men with special predegree in the scriptures.

Abraham is well known as the father of faith. His faith was so great that God called him his friend. Jesus Christ in his earthly ministry walked with God too by faith. That’s why he could accept the five loaves of bread and two fishes which was used to feed multitudes after thanksgiving and prayer of faith.

What about David? He so much loved God that he is well rated above all kings that ever lived in Israel. He taught us a lesson in thanksgiving and humility. Two special characters standing here as Christ’s forebearers.

Who is a king? A king is a ruler of a kingdom. At the time Christ was born, Herod was ruling the Roman Empire. The new born king was of Jewish descent. The Jews at that time were under the tribute of the Romans. How come another king will come to replace the ‘almighty’ king Herod?

The Proclamation of The New Born King

‘Now when Jeswus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the dayss of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Saying, where is he that is born King of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, are come to worship him.’(Matt 2:2)

The herald of his birth posed great threat to Herod who gave an order for the murder of all children of 2 years age bracket with the intention of eliminating the new born King. ‘When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

And when he had gathered all people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born....

Then Herod when he had privily called the wise men inquired of them diligently what time the star appeared........

Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding worth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men’.(Matt. 2:7,16)

The plan of Herod to eliminate Christ was aborted through divine intervention. Christ was on divine assignment. He has a message to deliver to the world. A messenger must be kept alive to deliver his message.

Are you on a divine mission? This is an assurance that God is with you. He will preserve you to deliver the message He has sent you. You will not die. You will live to declare the glory of God in the land of the living.

Prophetic Declaration About The King

Prophets and great men of God had prophesied about the coming of the new born king. ‘Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son,and shall call his name Immanuel.’ (Isiah 7:14)

‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon hsi shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.’ (Isiah 9:6).

Purpose Of His Birth

Why is the new king born? Let’s find it in Luke chapter 1:76-79 ‘And thou child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace’.

The way of salvation to the whole world was unknown until Christ came. A new way is apparent for the remission of sins. He came to give light and guide men to the way of peace.

Power Of The King

In order to carry out his assignment, he must exercise power to deliver and set free. ‘Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every naem:

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earht, and things under the earth;

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Phil 2:9-11).

Christ's power covers all creation. Spiritual powers in high places, on earth and beneath the earth all bow at the mention of his name.

Provision By The King

Is there any guarantee that things will get better at the advent of the new born king? Oh yes. Mattew 11:28 is a proof. ‘Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavey laden, and I will give you rest'.

Are you laboring under the yoke of sin? He will reverse your situation and exchange it for peace. Is your life battered and shattered? Accept Christ’s invitation and your waste places will be repaired. Are you lost in backsliden? Cheer up. His will restore that which you have lost if you return to him. ‘Come and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smittten, and he will bind us up.’(Hos. 6:1)

Prerequisite For Friendship With The King

Here is an invitation for you to be a friend of this King of glory. In order to be his friend, you must believe in him. ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life’(John 3:16)

1. Peace Is Ordained By God-Just as the heaven and earth is created by God, peace too is the creation of God. In order to have a lasting peace, you must be connected to the author of peace himself. But how can this happen?

2. It Is Possible To Have Peace In Your Heart And With Others-You can have peace in your heart and life if you follow the laid down guide to peace as authored by God. Before you can key-in to a lasting peace, you must first believe that it is possible. It starts within you.

As you go along in your life's journey, the way you relate with others will determine how influential you could be. Two of Christ's
disciples came to him one day and requested to be elevated above others. When they got to know about it, they became enviuos and angry. A sour relationship ensued and it took the intervention of Christ to settle the ensuing rift. You can read more about the request of James and John in Mark 10:35-45
What made Christ so influential in his lifetime and beyond are his peculiar patient relationship with men. 'Even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve' (Mk 10:45). That's the secret of the power of influence you can have over others.
The Roman Way To Great Influence
In Romans 12:9-21, we shall examine 12 magnificent ways to attract great influence:
1. Let Love Be Without Dissimulation. You will attract great influence if you can love people wholeheartedly without deception. Let your love be pure and without condition.
2. Have Evil And Do Good: Evil is repulsive and will scare people away from you. If you do good, people will remember you for the positive way you have touched their lives and will always remember you for it.
3. Be Kind To Others: A little deed of kindness can illuminate the lives of those hurting and lonely. Someone needs your kind affection each day. It could be a word of encouragement ; it could be an infectious smile. One way or the other, it will make others better. Show it to them.
4. Put Others First. In honour, prefer other people to take the glory while you work in the background. You will soon find out how the glory will come back to you.
5. Don't Be Slothful In Business: Whatever your hands find to do, do it with all your might. It pays to work hard to bless others.
6. Be Fervent In Spirit: Your partnership with the Holy Spirit will introduce a great supernatural dimension to what you can accomplish for God and others. In the spiritual race, this is the multiplication factor.
7. Serve The Lord: If you can't serve God, you can't serve others. Serving God opens the door to meet more people and be of use to them.
8. Rejoice In Hope: Hope gives enthusiasm. Enthusiasm is infectious. Hope never make ashamed for the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts.
9. Be Patient In Tribulation: When you are being persecuted for your faith. Wait for God knowing that the trial of your faith is much more precious than gold that perishes.
10. Distribute To The Necessity Of The Brethren: Share your resources with those of the household of faith. There are so many believers around you who needs your help materially. Don't deny them.
11. Be Hospitable: Even as wicked as this world is, you still need to extend hospitability to strangers. Some by so doing had entertained angels unawares.
12. Continue To Pray For Others: You can have greater influece on those you pray for. Mothers had prayed their children to the kingdom of God. Hudson Tailor was greatly used of God. But he was rascally during his youthful years. It took the persistent, fervent prayer of his mother to move the Holy Spirit to convince him of his sinful ways.Later in life, Hudson Tailor became a highly successful missionary to China. He was greatly used of God.

4 Steps To Extraordinary Accomplishment

What would you do if you are to step into the shoes of your mentor who failed in the task given to him? How would you go about it so that the mistakes made is not repeated. Would you even be able to take the responsibility?
God's mission must be accomplished in God's way. Moses could not lead the Israelites to the promised land. The mantle fell on Joshua to accomplish the difficult task. Yet he must succeed. But he accomplished the feat. How? That's what we'll consider in the lesson to help us accomplish what God has assigned to us.

'Now after the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' minister, saying
Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, tho and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.
Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of they life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses m servant commanded thee: turn nto from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day andnight, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. (Joshua 1:1-8)
From the above passage, let's consider 4 steps to extraordinary accomplishment.
1. Survey And Map: You need to physically appreciate the magnitude of the task ahead of you. What is the quantity and quality of work expected of you? Know and understand the task before you ever take any action. A visual appreciation of the work is a vital step to success.

2. See God's Presence Daily: God has promised to be with you and never to forsake you. Believe what the Lord says and envision his presence daily. True. There are giants all over you but God is greater than them all. His support is the divine power you need for great and extraordinary accomplishment despite opposition from men.
3. Strongly And Courageously Execute The Task: Fear not. Courage is vital for your success in the task. Step out fearlessly. You have not been given the spirit of fear but that of boldness and of a sound mind. Let the power of God cancel the fear of man. Listen to God and what men are saying to distract you.
4. Set Your Mind On God's Word: You'll need to understand and meditate on the word of God for
revelation and supernatural empowerment. The Lord has place his word above his name. His word cannot fail. Make it your companion as you step ahead to accomplishing God's work in your hand.

One Thing Is Needful

How can your life be ordered to completely eliminate confusion and hopelessness? Any life without a priority will end up in chaos. A visit to a beloved family by the Lord Jesus Christ during his earthly stay revealed the only way to discover the true purpose for our lives.
'Now it came to pass as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving and came to him and said Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thin is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.' Lk 10: 38-42

Cares Of This World Will Rob You Of God's Visitation
Jesus Christ visited. That's uncommon. Only few people can boast of the personal visit of the Messiah. Martha was priviledged to have the Master present in her house but she cumbered herself with food! Is that not surprising? In her heart were so many things troubling her mind but she covered it with preparing food for Christ. The solution Christ brought was to heal her soul though the power of the word but she missed it!
The word of God is the solution to your troubled heart. The more you grow in the knowledge of the word of God, the more you will unlock and command the supernatural in your life.

Choose The Good Part
Mary quietly sat at Jesus' feet to listen to wonderful word of life. That's the good part which no man can take away from her. No wonder her life was better ordered. She was never confused because the word of God was her first point of call to eliminated cares, anxieties and troubles of life.
Find time to listen to the word of God when you are alone to discover the secret of victorious living and how to experience the supernatural. What eyes has not seen, what ears has not heard and what has not come into the heart of man are what God has reserved for those who love him. Are you one of those?

3 Powerful Steps To An Extraordinary Life

'That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect; YET NOT THE WISDOM OF THIS WORLD, NOR OF THE PRINCES OF THIS WORLD, that come to nought.
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the world unto our glory.

Think about how it was possible for God to create the universe by the word of his mouth. Anything that come out of the mouth of God reveals his wisdom. That's why you must make friend with the word of God that has been written down in the Bible. The more of it you know, the more of God's wisdom you'll acquire.

Know The Characteristics Of The Wisdom Of God.
You see, the wisdom of God is mysterious and difficult for the natural man to understand. It could only be understood by the Spirit of God in man. So if you are born again, congratulations. The Spirit of God in you will help you to understand the things of God. If you are not born again, you are still carnal. You'll never understand the things of God. Nikodemus has been a teacher of the law for years but because he had not the Spirit of God, he never understood the mystery Christ shared with him about spiritual birth. Accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour is the essential, first vital step to having the Spirit of God.
The wisdom of God is not only mysterious but also hidden. It is a hidden treasure that must be dug out. Think about digging honey out of the rock. God is the only one who through his Spirit and power makes it possible for us to dig honey out of the rock. That's the extraordinary life you'll begin to live with Christ in you.

Knock Out Every Doubt In You
If you entertain doubt, you have relapsed to the wisdom of this world which depend on what is seen. The wisdom of God is built on what is not seen. What is seen is temporal but what is not seen is perfect and permanent all through eternity. 'That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God'.
How was it possible for Daniel to stop the mouth of the lion? What about Jephtha; how was he able to lead his people to victory after being labelled a bastard? What force was behind the single jaw of an ass Samson used to slay thousands? The three Hebrews quenched the fire Nebuchadnezer set for them because of thier faith in the living. All these were able to do the extraordinary because they were committed to the wisdom of God through faith.

The Promise You Have Failed To Apply

Should you suffer in the midst of plenty? Why looking for what is so near and close afar off? What you are looking for in distance shore is right at your reach but the Lord says' my people perish for lack of knowledge'

Believers in the days of Christ wondered about his awesome power and how he did his great miracles. But Christ haven known their thoughts charged them about the miracle in a simple act of prayer.

What he revealed in John 14:12-14 is the promise many believers are not aware of or are not using because of unbelief. Let's read it as written 'And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son'

If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it' (vs 13-14).

Can You Ask Enough?
What is that thing bordering your mind which has brought confusion into your life? Christ has given you an open cheque in this passage to ask whatsoever you want him to do for you. Is it about your life, marriage, academics, relationship, children, spiritual progress which has brought distress into your life? Why can't you take him on his words and ask him today? He promised to give it to you.

You Must Ask In The Name Of Jesus

This is what many cannot do. Belief and trust in the name of Jesus is the key to receiving from God. The name of Christ is the telephone line to the ears of God. It is the honour of God to glorify himself through the Son.

Here today you have the two key steps to your miracle. Ask whatever you want God to do for you. Don't just ask. Ask in the name of Jesus. It is well with you.

The Believers' Guide To Godly Conduct

Certain believers thought that once they believe, good conduct

ought not to be pursued. Such notion had hindered many from enjoying the fullness of the joy salvation brings.

The believers in the Corinthian church misbehaved in practical christian living and immorality was rampant among them.

As a believer, it is true that old things are passed away but you still need to understand the principle of winning conduct for believers. In order to understand how to behave to others in a way to please God, the Holy Ghost inspired guide for believers' conduct in Ephesians chapter 4:25-32 is wonderfully helpful:

'Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that neededth.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.

And be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you'.

This is the best conduct guide for the believer. May the Lord give you understanding.

How To Be Rich Towards God

This man once lived in the time of our Lord Jesus Christ. He had money and influence but ended his life tragically despite his riches. He was called 'The Rich Fool'. What must have led to his pitiable situation? He accumulated much but couldn't live to enjoy the fruit of his labour. The reason for his sad situation and how money is not the solution to everything serves as a lesson to us to learn from his pitfall so as not to make the same mistake he made. Here is how the story went in Luke 12: 15-21

Beware Of Covetousness

'Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. That's the mistake the rich fool Christ spoke about made. He had so much and full of self. The more he had, the more he wanted! The desires of man can never be satisfied. This is the reason you must be careful if you are called by the name of God.

In Whatever You Do, Acknowledge The Blessings Of God And Give Him The Glory

That's what the rich man in the passage failed to do. He gave the glory to himself. He thought about his wisdom and smartness. He must have forgotten that no man receive anything except he is given from above.

Jesus Christ revealed the sad story of this man and said 'The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully;

And he thought within himself, saying, what shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and merry.

But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God'

How are you laying up riches and treasures for yourself without investing in the things of God?

Don't follow in the footstep of the rich fool so that you will not end like him. Your life is greater than meat and merriment.

Seek The Kingdom Of God

Instead of devoting all your life and time to the accumulation of riches why can't you think about your eternity.

'But rather seek ye the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you' (Vs 31)

You see? It is wiser to reorder your life and make finding the kingdom of God a top priority.

Give Alms

Your wealth will be meaningless if nobody shares in it or gain from you. How many lives will you

touch with what you have? Think and act of it. Be a channel of blessing to others. 'Christ admonished whoever cares to listen to 'Sell that ye have, and give alms' (Vs 33).

These are the simple steps you need to follow so as to be Rich Towards God. Shallom.

'In Vain They Worship Me'-Christ's Shocking Revelation To Believers

The religious leaders in those days had made people to believe that once they attend the synagogue regularly and observe all religious rites, they are justified in the presence of God even if they still speak unedifying language, think evil, do evil, commit murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness and blasphemies.

They hid from the people the fact that the mouth and the heart are the factories of evil thought and sin against God. True worship and fear of God was eliminated and replaced with the fear of religious leaders and the tradition of men.

The Shocking Revelation

Christ released a 'bombshell' to dispel the false teaching and declared the true mind of God as you are reading in this post right now. 'Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mough, this defileth a man' (Matt. 15;11)

The truth which had been hidden from the people was boldly exposed in vs 9 'But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men'.

As a Pastor and Minister what have you been teaching your congregation? Do you still teach them about heart and mouth purity? Haven't you replaced sound teaching with religious rites of worship and payment of tithes and offerings?

The Unfailing Truth

Without fear or favour, Christ declared the mind of God in vs 17 'Do not ye understand that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly and is cast out into the draught?

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: These are the things which defile a man....'.

The shocking revelation was made to correct popular misconception, teaching and deceit. No amount of religious duties can cancel God's demand for purity in heart and conduct. Keep your heart with all diligence and remember always that out of multitude of words sin multiplies.

Decide from today to turn away from vain worship and seek to please God in holiness and integrity. That's how not to join multitudes in evil.

Be not like the horse or the mull which has no understanding!

Are you weary and heavy laden? Is the burden of life too heavy for you to bear? Are you depressed and confused? Have you lost hope that anything good can ever come out of your life?

Are you constantly oppressed by your burden of guilt and tormented by the devil? Are you in trouble and turmoil and confused about how to escape from life's dangerous path? Listen, I bring to you today the word of hope.

In Matthew 14:30, Peter who hitherto had summoned courage to follow the footsteps of Jesus who walked on the sea suddenly developed fear when the wind became boisterous. The result? He started sinking. The wind of life blows to make you sink but you need not fear. Let faith cancel your fear so you could remain strong on your feet. Your own life's boisterous wind could be constant failure and sickness. Fear not, there is hope for Christ will rescue you. How?

1. By His Word: If you believe in the word of Christ concerning your situation, you'll successfully navigate and come out victorious. 'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom' (Col. 3:16). The word of Christ will stare up faith in you. When Peter held on to the word of Christ, he had faith to walk on the sea but when he listened to the boisterous wind, he became fearful and his circumstance almost ruined him. Don't let life's circumstance defeat you. Know the word of Christ, believe it and act on it.

2. By His Presence: When Christ is with you, all the divine access you need is right with you. He says 'I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world'. (Matt 28:20) Be conscious of the presence of the Lord with you. If God be for us, who can be against us? (Rom. 8:31)

Peter at the point of sinking, he remembered that Christ was present with him so he cried loud unto him for help. Instantly, Christ stretched his hands forward to rescue him. If you too, conscious of his presence cry unto him for help, he'll answer you and help you out of your difficult situation.

3. By His Cross: There is power in the cross of Christ. On the cross, he blotted out all the handwriting and ordinances working against you. 'Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to the cross' (Col 2:14) 'It is finished'. That's Christ's last word on the cross. All your life's trouble has been dealt with on the cross. You only need to receive strength to be an overcomer today. Follow these three divine steps and you'll navigate through life's trouble and danger victoriously.

Want To Be A Friend? Be The Best!

Stories abound of friends who betray each other. People you seem to trust the most end up stabbing you at the back. Yet there are friends that stick to one more than blood relation.

What do you want to find in someone you can call your friend? Why can't you take the lead and be that kind of a friend instead of expecting much from others. What you want others to do to you, do to them likewise. 'Therefore, all things, whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them' (Mat. 7:12) That's how to a friend others would be proud of. Do you detest being disappointed? Never disappoint anyone. Do you hate betrayal? Never betray anyone. Do you want people to be there for you when you need them most? Be there for someone when you are most needed.

David and Jonathan were young and from different background. David had a lowly heritage while Jonathan was the heir apparent to the throne of Israel. As they became friends, it became evident that David would one day succeed Saul-Jonathan's father as kind by divine election and providence.

Saul at a time during his reign attempted to kill David and Jonathan knew about it. Instead of aligning with his father to stab David at the back so he could ascend the throne thereafter, he refused bluntly at the risk of his life. He was there for Jonathan and helped him through being assassinated. David escaped and lived to become king!

If you have a friend competing with you for the same post and opportunity what would you do to him when you have the chance to eliminate him? Would you rather prefer he falls so you could rise or you'd rather allow him go through and leave things in the hands of God to work for you?

Jonathan was a true model of a good friend. Positive attitude that can be emulated from the life of Jonathan include:

Jonathan Put His Life At Risk For David

'And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem' ( 1 Sam 20: 28) He had arranged with David to cover him when his father asked after him. He did exactly what he promised thus putting his own life at risk. What can you risk for your friend?

Jonathan Defended David

'And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, wherefore shall he be slain? what hat he done?'(Vs 32) Jonathan stood his ground and defended David against a reigning kind who wielded great power. He was ready to die so his friend could live. He was a trusted folk. Can anyone trust you to defend them when it really matters?

Jonathan Never Broke His Promise

And Jonathan said to David, go in peace, for as much as we have sworn both of us in the name of the Lord , saying, the Lord be between me and thee and between my seed and thy seed for ever.' (vs 42) Can you keep a promise you made to a friend? Learn from Jonathan. Position yourself to be a kind of friend people can trust. The world will be better for it. Your life will shine for it. Your testimony will be better for it.

Without Jesus in your life, it will be difficult to abide by this principle well executed by Jonathan for it is unwise for the carnally minded. Selfless love is only possible in Christ. Invite him to your life today and things will be different.

If your father,mother, brother, sister, close associate and other people you respect press you hard
to stop praying in the name of Jesus like it happened to Daniel when he was compelled by law not to
pray to the true God what will you do? Can you still damn the consequence and follow the Lord?
Can you put your life and reputation on the line for the sake of Christ? That's what it cost to be a true

disciple of Christ.

Bear Your Cross
Whatever cross you have to bear in his name, bear it. Is it misrepresentation or outright falsehood? Stand
on the truth and keep on following. Joseph didn't sleep with Portiphar's wife but he was jailed for an offence
he didn't commit. It was a heavy cross but he carried it.
Stephen was stoned as he preached to religious elders about Christ. They stoned him because of his faith in Christ.
What denial must you endure for the sake of Christ? Bear the cross and keep on following.
The suffering of this present time cannot compare with the glory which shall be revealed in you later.

How To Really Work For God

This is the answer to the question you have been pondering on in your closet about your desire to work for God. But it is not what you had thought the answer will be. You may be near the altar as a Pastor, chorister, Sunday school teacher and a prominent worker in your local church.

Some people came to Jesus many years ago to know his mind about how to work for God. The answer he gave them is the way to go and the secret to spiritual power and a life devoid of crisis and uncertainty!

Who were these people? What were their real motive in seeking the answer? What was Christ's reply that turned full cycle from their expectation?

Let's find out in John chapter 6 from verse 28,

'Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

Jesus answered and said unto them, 'This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hat sent'.

These people had benefited form the free food earlier given and perhaps they thought by volunteering to do one thing or the other for Christ by getting close to him, their need for food will always be met!

If you have been holding a special office in the church for what you will gain then, it is better to have a complete turn around now and give attention to what Christ is saying here.

'Labor not for the meat with perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasitn life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed'(John 6: 27)

If you want to really do the work of God, you must believe in Christ! Faith in Christ is the vital foundation for working for God. If you miss it, you have missed out!

Lessons From Zacchaeus: The Rich Seeker

Most rich men are over confident and proud. But if you ever want to be saved, you'll come to Christ with great humility. Zacchaeus was a rich man who defied riches and other odds to seek the Saviour. His life is a challenge to rich men who think riches will get them salvation. But it will never happen! Money can buy favour but not salvation.

Zacchaeus was determined to live above mundane things because riches and money can never satisfy. Solomon who had more of it than anyone concluded that 'vanity upon vanity, all is vanity'.

The story of this exceptional rich man is well written in Luke 19:1-10 to teach us transforming lessons to make us be closer to God and reorder our priorities.

The Ancient Undiluted Story

'And behold there was a man named Zaccheus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him; for he was to pass that way.

The Life-Changing Lessons From Zacchaeus

Zeal In Seeking God: That's what he demonstrated by his strong desire to see and know the saviour. Today, if you seek the Lord, you'll find him. But you must seek him with all your heart.

Acknowledgement Of Limitation: Zacchaeus knew his own limitation. He was short and never pretended otherwise. Self-deception and hypocrisy will deny you of God's salvation. Sin is a limitation. Accept responsibility for your sin and the first step to receiving pardon.

Conquest Of Limitation: Though limited in height, he never allowed it to stand on his way. He rather found a way out of the limitation by climbing the tree. You need to remove all obstacles keeping you away from the Lord and his salvation. Jesus offered a free way out of sin by his blood. Believe that He has the power to forgive you because the vilest offender who truly believe shall receive pardon from Christ Jesus.

Concentration On Just Knowing Christ: Zacchaeus was single-minded about his desire to know Christ. He focused on it and eventually attained his goal. Your life can receive a fresh start with Jesus if only you can focus on him. Look unto Jesus. He is the author and finisher of our faith. (Heb 12:2)

Happily Received Christ: When Christ eventually came calling, Zacchaeus joyfully accepted him. The grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men through Christ. He is knocking at the door of your heart. Joyfully open the door for him with awe. He'll enter as he promised and sup with you.

Accepted Christ's Invitation: He accepted the proposal from Christ. You too need to accept God's offer of salvation through Christ. It is a gift of God. If you reject it, you'll never have it.

Embraced A New Life: Zacchaeus practically refused the old life and embraced a new one. You should be ready to forget the past and learn from Christ, your new master. He wants you to follow him as a disciple. Would you?

Uncovered His Sins: Zacchaeus uncovered his sin and declared his readiness to make restitution. If you cover your sin, you cannot prosper. Uncover your sin to God. Beg for pardon. Once forgiven, go ahead to put things right with those you had offended. This is one of the physical evidence of genuine conversion.

Surrendered Absolutely To God: Zacchaeus didn't keep anything away from Christ. He was the instrument of transformation for his household. Once you are saved, work and pray for the salvation of others in your family. Like Joshua, be ready to say 'But for me and my house, we will serve the Lord'.

The Name Of Jesus-More Than Silver And Gold

It happened suddenly and was unexpected. The parents were dejected and hopeless.
The joy of birth disappeared when they realized that the child they bore was lame
from his mother's womb. As the child grew, they reasoned it would be better to give him up to solicit for alms. By so doing, they would be able to sustain his life and feed him. They never knew one day, the child would experience complete turn around and change of destiny!

Something Happened
That day was just like any other day. The parents had laid him at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful to ask alms of those who entered the temple.
By divine providence, Peter and John-God's apostles of the hour were there at the hour of prayer. They came with anointing and power with the name of Jesus in their mouth.
He asked for alms but they had neither silver nor gold. Yet they had something greater to give! They refused to pass him by without giving him the greatest offer they could.
'Then Peter said, silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk'(Acts 3:6)

Was It What He Wanted?

No. What he wanted was money to meet his immediate needs but God had better plan for his life. He needed his legs to really regain his self-confidence and
learn to work with his hands. By so doing, he would no longer need to bet to survive.
He got his miracle instead and started walking.

'And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the

temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God' (Acts 3:7-8)

You Too Can Receive Your Miracle In The Name Of Jesus
When he left home that day, he never thought the day would mark the beginning of new things in his life.
He became a brand new man. The power in the name of Jesus worked for him.
God can surprise you too today if you believe in the name of Jesus. It is more than silver and gold.
The name of Jesus will make your life better and give you hope for the future. Your mountain will collapse and you too will leap for joy, praising God.

Jesus Christ Is Calling You

Every year, high school senior apply to their favorite universities and then watch the mailbox for the letter announcing their acceptance. That's the preamble to the commentary on today's daily bread message by Joe Stowell which I believe God will use to speak to your heart in this scripture lessons' series.
The text is taken form Matthew 4:18-22 'And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets and followed him.
And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him'.

He continues 'It was different for teens in New Testament times. Jewish boys would
often attend rabbinical schools until age 13. Then only the best and brightest would be chosen to 'Follow' the local rabbi. This small, select group of disciples would go where he went and eat what he ate-modeling their lives after the rabbi. Those who didn't make the cut would pick up a trade like carpentry, sheep-herding, or fishing.
Guys like Simon, Andrew, James and John hadn't made the cut. So instead of following the local rabbi, they were down by the docks, knee-deep in the family business. It's interesting that Jesus sought out the men the local rabbi had rejected. Instead of targeting the best and brightest,
Jesus offered His invitation. 'Follow Me' to ordinary run-of-the-mill fishermen. What an honor! They would become follower of the ultimate Rabbi.
Jesus extend the same honor to you and me-not because we are the best or brightest, but because He needs ordinary people like us to model His life and to lovingly rescue people on His behalf. So, follow Him and let Him
make something of your life!

Any Gain For The Upright?

He was lied against and set up to take the fall for an offense he never committed.
Like a dream, he found himself behind the bars for taking a stand against evil.

Why must this happen to him? He refused the lustful advance of his master's wife. Instead of being commended, he spent years in the prison.
But God never forgot him!

Just like this young man in reference, you may be secretly asking if it really pays to be upright.
Should you quit doing good because it is fraught with danger? Why not join others to commit evil and enjoy life? But what would be the end?

Joseph refused to be cowed by life's unfair circumstance which conspired to question his loyalty to God and upright living. Eventually, eh enjoyed the benefits of being upright.

In Psalm 112, you'll find Six Attractive Benefits For The Upright.

'..Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.
His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.
Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.
Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.
Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.
He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord'.
Here they are one after the other;

(1) Blessings From God: The blessings of the Lord is upon the upright because he fears God. He'll never give in to evil.

(2) His Seed Shall Be Great: His generation after him shall enjoy greatness. The goodness and greatness of the upright is transferable to the next generation. Abraham transfered his to Isaac.
Isaac in turn transfered his to Israel.

(3) Wealth And Riches Shall Be In His House: Joseph was catapulted from prison to the palace. He lived in riches and wealth. He also controlled the government of Pharaoh in Egypt.

(4) He Shall Find Light In The Darkness: No matter how dark the world may be, the upright shall find light to walk in the darkness. The word of God is the light to the path of God's children. Are you one?

(5) He Shall Not Be Forgotten: God says 'I will never leave you nor forsake you'. 'It is possible for a mother to forget her suckling child but God will never forget the upright'(Is. 49:15)
(6) He Shall Not Be Afraid Of Evil: His heart is fixed in the Lord because he trusts in Him. No evil shall make him afraid. He is free from the torment of sin and fear!

What is your problem? Are you living in perpetual fear, poverty, curse and torment? Why can't you come to Jesus today to start your journey in uprightness? It pays to be upright. It pays to serve Jesus!

Divine Pills For Worry

Are you worry sick and can't find the way out? Stop taking those pills recommended by your doctor because you wont find the solution from them. Worry is making life miserable for you because your mind is sick.

I have a good news for you today! Jesus Christ himself gave the problem of worry and how to overcome it in the book of Mathew chapter 6 vs 25 'Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

Worrying About Life

You have been worrying about your life for quite sometime now. Have you been able to find solutions to your fear because you worry about your future? That future belongs to God. Why can't you turn it over to him?

'Be careful for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God and the peace of God which passeth understanding shall keep your hearts and mind through Jesus Christ' (Phil 4:6)

Worrying About Food

If you spend most of your day worrying about what to eat would you ever get one? Step out of your door and find something to do. Work with your hands and the Lord shall proper the work of your hands. Never be ashamed of any legitimate work no matter how little. Your beginning may be small but your latter end shall be great.

Worrying About What To Put On

Your life is not going to be determined by what you have to clothe yourself now. Take good care of the few clothes in your wardrobe now. Later, from multiple blessings from God through your labour, you'll have more than enough to put on tomorrow. Don't worry-sick to end your life before that time.

Finally

Jesus Christ says 'But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you' (Matt 6:33).

If you seek God first and eternal values, there is a guarantee that all your needs will be met through divine provision. Stay alive to enjoy God's blessings for your life. Shallom

Moving Against God

Is man powerful enough to move against God? Before you answer that question consider the story of the first man and woman in the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve. They moved against God when they contravened his order.

God set a boundary and they crossed it. That's what sin is about. Any sin committed is moving against God.

3 Definitions Of Sin

1. Sin is going beyond a limit or a set boundary.

2. Sin means all unrighteousness. (I John 5:17)

3. Knowing good and not doing it is sin.

6 Shocking Damages Sin Does

1. It destroys man's fellowship relationship with God. That's why Adam and Eve ran for cover when they heard the voice of God. Before sin, they had enjoyed cordial relationship with God. Prophet Isiah also says, 'Your sins has separated between you and your God'.

2. It instills undue fear in man for his creator. When sin enters, peace exits the door.

3. It destroys God's plan for man.

4. It sends man out of God's grace into problem.

5. It reduces man to nothing.

6. It exposes man's secrets.

5 Ways To Overcome Sin

1. Guard your heart for out of it are the issues of life.

2. Keep God's word in your heart. (Ps. 119:11)

3. Run away from all appearances of evil (1 Thess. 5:22)

4. Continue to live in Jesus. (1 John 3:6)

5. Receive grace to liver over sin.

Do you still want to move against God or reconcile with him? Now is the time of salvation. Tomorrow may be too late.

In The Name Of Jesus

This is going to be different. You are already familiar with how the name of Jesus make every knee to bow. Why? Because God gave him a name that is greater than every other name. Those in the earth, those in the heaven, those beneath the earth and those in the air. The oppressed that mention the name gets delivered. The bound are set free and the sick healed.

But there is another way of using the name of Jesus. In this wise, it's not to get anything from God as Jesus promised that 'anything you ask my father in my name he may give it you' but living to please the Lord.

'And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus'(Col. 3:17)

Now let me ask you this question, can you do evil in the name of Jesus? Can you commit adultery in the name of Jesus? Can you commit murder in the name of Jesus? Of course you know that Christ will never support that!

So what are you supposed to do in the name of Christ?

1. Forbear In The Name Of Christ-Be the kind of a person and believer that will reflect Christ in bearing with weakness of others. Peter denied Christ yet, he looked for him after resurrection.

2. Forgive Others In The Name Of Christ-How many times can other people offend you and be forgiven? Christ says 7 times 70. What is the message here? Don't count the sins of others against them. Forgive easily and your heavenly father will forgive you too.

3. Show Love To Others In The Name Of Christ-You will be a good ambassador of Christ if you show love to others who don't deserve it.

If you follow these steps, you'll be a shining example in this dark world and lead the way to the heart of God.

A story was told of a powerful woman who wielded great influence among the women in her time. Not only that. She was the senior sister of a great man of God. She thought her status had conferred on her the priviledge to speak spitefully of the man of God. She was wrong! Her comment by wrong usage of the tongue brought the sickness of leprousy upon her. Her sin caused the journey of God's people to be delayed by seven days.

Another story was told of a queen married to a powerful king. May be she was too familiar with the king who revered God more than anything else. The king praised God with unbelievable dancing steps! Such a display of humility attracted negative comment from the queen to the king. Her name was Micah. Her comment provoked the king who made pronouncement to put record straight. But God in heaven will take more than that. Micah never had fruit of the womb throughout her life as a punishment for wrong use of her tongue.

'Even so the tongue is a little member and boasteth great things...And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity; so is the tongue among our members that it defileth the whole body and setteth on the fire the course of nature.......But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison...(James 3:5-6)

How you use your tongue will determine your destiny. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. With your tongue you can choose and speak life. With the same tongue you can choose death and sickness; even irreversible damage to yourself. Mariam was lucky! She was healed of her leprosy but Micah was not that lucky. She had no one to plead her cause.

Why put yourself in a difficult situation? It is better to use the tongue wisely instead of using it foolishly like the two characters earlier referenced.

Wisdom Ways For Your Tongue

'Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom'(James 3: 13)

The way of wisdom is to ask for grace from God to use our tongue for good conversation. This is godly conversation that will portray wisdom and meekness. Speak the truth. It is a wise way to use your tongue. Say some words of encouragement and grace to others. It is a wise way to use your tongue. Pray fervently on behalf of others. It is a wise way to use your tongue. Preach the gospel of peace with your tongue. You'll discover how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace.

Your tongue is not for cursing. Use it to bless others. If you do, your life will radiate the goodness of God and you'll be free from irredeemable danger. Peace be with you.

How To Really Please God

If your desire is to please God and don't know how, or you have been struggling within yourself to break away from the inner conflict hindering you from pleasing God then this message may be just right for you.

How can one consistently please God? Remember Moses? He was the meekest man in his time but unfortunately, at a point in his ministry, people provoked him to sin against God. He threw away his sound faith in God at that point and dishonoured him. Instead of pointing the rod at the rock as commanded, he struck the rock under the influence of wrath against the people.

How can we learn from his example and live above board in pleasing God? Hebrews 13:16 shows the way:

'But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased'.

2 Wonderful Ways To Really Please God

1. Do Good-It is very difficult to do good under certain circumstances like the one Moses found himself when people he was leading never ceased complaining and blaming him for their supposed misfortune and imagined sufferings. Though they were fed free of charge without working in the wilderness, they were still not contented with the mighty power of God and his divine providence anytime he's called upon.

You may find it difficult to do good when men disappoint you and work for your downfall. But if you want to really please God, you must remember to do good. Reward good for evil done to you. Bless them that curse you and pray for them that despisefully use you. Doing good will keep you ahead of your adversaries and cause God to move on your behalf to fight your battles for you.

2. Forget Not To Communicate: In other words, remember to say something good, something honest, something of good report, something of love, something of benefit to others. Let your words be seasoned with grace. Speak to strengthen weak bones. Let your word give hope to the hopeless and finally, bless others with your substance especially the less priviledged in the household of faith.

By so doing, you'll be demonstrating the love of Christ to those around you. Your light will shine before men and they shall glorify your father which is in heaven.
