1. I have spent a lot of time seeking the face of God, never as much as I need to, but I really desire & need His guidance for my life and the life of Revolution Church. I am behind on my reading the entire New Testament. Gotta step that up a little.
2. I feel I am making strides at being a better steward of my time. I still need to improve on balancing family, personal time, work, church, pastoral work, and everything in-between.
3. Still not the pastor & leader I desire to be for Revolution Church. Changing my reading list from leadership books to more books on getting closer to God! (see #5)
4. Hehe… Not too much healthier than 6 months ago. I dropped about 15 pounds, but still more to go!
5. Reading list has changed a little (I knew it would). Main point in this goal was to always strive to learn. Currently reading Axiom: Powerful Leadership Proverbs & Servolution: Starting a Church Revolution through Serving. Next up is A.W. Tozer’s The Pursuit of God and Tim Keller’s The Prodigal God: Recovering the Heart of the Christian Faith.
6. This one I have done. I am learning to laugh and have more fun. I think this happened naturally as #2 improves. Seems the more time I spend with my family, the more I laugh and smile.
7. Blogging & Social Networks… I am finding Facebook & Twitter have helped in communication with friends & Revolution peeps. My blogging is very hit and miss. Blogging takes time (see #2).
8. Susanne and I have started making dents in our debt! BIG dents!!! Thank you Dave Ramsey: Emergency fund complete, and debt being attacked using the debt snowball!
9. Dating my wife more: Not going so good. I have to start dating my wife more! For that matter, I also must be more intentional about taking my daughter out, so I can teach her how a guy is supposed to treat a gal.

So, how are your goals going? It is important to examine the progress of things we set out to do…

Family on Vacation
Susanne and the kids went on vacation without me this summer… no vacation time. They had a great time and they all have a tan. I think Jake is darker than I ever was!

Learning from the Best
Susanne and the kids left me for a second week to learn from my good friend John Sharp’s church. North Point Community Church does NICK AT NITE (VBS with a mess!) in Columbia, SC every summer. They were kind enough to let the kids take part and let Susanne learn how they pull it off. The kids talked about how awesome it was so much, they told me they had to go back Sunday for the last day… So I loaded up the truck and joined them… Great stuff going on in North East Columbia.

11 Years
On the 20th of June, Susanne and I celebrated our 11th wedding anniversary. We woke up that Saturday to Sam throwing up. We didn’t get to do anything special that day, but I was able to take her to Carrabba’s last weekend. That is the best place in the world to eat and spend time with the one you love. Question I ask myself… How did she put up with me for 11 years… not sure, just glad she did.

Father’s Day
What a great day. My family made me fried pork chops & tiffy’s taters! Yes, that has to be one of my favorite meals. The honored me with a "World’s Best Father" award which I doubt I deserve, but I accepted. Best of all, the kids did not fuss with each other all day… that is what I wanted for my gift. I get to be the father to the three greatest kids on the face of the earth!

Youth LIFE Group
Starting Wednesday, July 8th, we will be adding a youth LIFE group at Revolution Church!! We would like to welcome Walter Brigman from Charleston Southern University & Journey Church. Walter will be leading this LIFE Group for upcoming 6th through 12th graders, and challenging students in their relationships with Christ. Our youth will operate on the same schedule as the children at FunDayGo. Hang out and eat from 6-7 pm with Bible Study from 7-8pm.

LifeChangers
I had the great honor to be the camp pastor for LifeChangers this year. There were 103 youth serving our city by painting, roofing, and repairing 8 houses. You can read more about it here. I preached three nights and poured my heart out. SIX youth made a decision to follow Christ and put Him first! I am so proud of those youth!

June was busy… tiring… but pretty dang AWESOME!

Needless to say, we had a great time!

I want to take a minute to reflect about our first family night as a church…

• I was impressed by our volunteers!
  • This was probably the biggest event we have done in the life of our church and they did not disappoint.
  • They showed up early to make sure everything was ready.
  • Helped watch the kids on the slides. Some volunteers even got on the slides!!! (see video at the bottom of the post)
  • Helped set up the pizza, drinks, and cupcakes.
  • Helped greet and talk with our guests to make them feel welcome.
  • The cleanup crew was awesome! They jumped in to help after the event was over without me having to ask!!! Now that is what I’m talking about!
• All the kids were insanely awesome!
  • We had 75 people in attendance, which included around 50 kids.
  • With that being said, we did not have one incident in the 2 hours. My two boys did not even get into a fuss .
  • As each kid went up to get their trophy, all the other kids clapped and cheered them on! That was great to see.. they must have had great coaches on the ball field! (A big thank you goes out to Eric and Ethan… you guys were awesome assistants… thanks so much for chipping in to help out!)

I’d like to send out a special thank-you to the team moms, as well.  They went above and beyond the call of duty all season… managing the dugouts and organizing snacks.  Then to top it all off, they surprised us coaches with a special gift.  I will cherish my "autographed team baseball" for many years to come… Thanks Dedra!

Yes, we met up for round two of Servolution at Greenwood. This time, we did not give the 91 staff a healthy snack…

This time, everyone got bags full of Snickers, Reese’s Cups, Almond Joys, and other "good for you" stuff. Each bag had a hand written personalized note thanking them for their service to our community.

We were even able to spend some time talking with a great bunch of ladies from the cafeteria. Everyone we came in contact with was so thankful! They were even kind enough to take a picture with me.

I am so proud of our volunteers that took the time to write those letters, stuff the bags, setup the tables with snacks, and deliver the candy bags! Y’all are awesome and I look forward to serving with you more in the next weeks and months…

It was a great week of serving the fine staff at Greenwood, but there is more to be done in Florence, SC! I want to hear your ideas. Do you have ideas of ways Revolution Church could serve our community?

But the best part of the day was when our group took the time to prepare for Servolution.

Servolution is when we as a church model Jesus’ example and put others first.

Revolution Church is exists to lead others to become fully devoted followers of Christ who are not simply satisfied with going to church, but desire to BE THE CHURCH.

Today, we were being the church. Our teachers in Florence are some of the greatest! I can’t even imaging the struggles they encounter from day to day. They see so much hurt and pain in the kids of our community. I am so proud to have the teachers, office workers, custodians, and cooks of Greenwood Elementary in out community.

Thank you Greenwood for allowing us to serve you in this small way. We hope you enjoy the spread of snacks and know that every one of you are being prayed for! Revolution Church loves you!

People tonight had real questions with a need to hear some form of hope. Here are a few of the questions I posted on their behalf on twitter to Dave Ramsey.

Though none of our questions were answered by Dave, it showed me there are real people that have real issues with real questions about their future!

Great news for those that may be uncertain about their future… There is hope, His name is Jesus.

Many who know me or read this blog may already know this, but on April 5th, Susanne and I said “enough is enough” and made the commitment to “live like no one else so that we could live like no one else” (Dave quote). We said “enough of the bondage” that debt causes!

We have tried to make dents in debt before, but with no success. Why is this time any different?

This time we sought after Jesus on the decision. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord.” -Jeremiah 17:7

We know that Jesus desires us to live victorious lives and to be generous givers not only to our church, but to those in need in our community!

We didn’t just pray, but put feet to the faith. We worked hard looking and praying over our expenses. We can do this!!! You can too!!!

The foundation of Hope is found in Jesus! Those of you that may be at the end of your rope… turn to Jesus, commit yourself to Him

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -Romans 15:13

There is something about the fans surrounding the field, clapping, and cheering as all the kids as the teams are being recognized, that really gets me!

I was given the awesome privilege to lead today’s invocation… to thank God for all the kids, coaches, parents, and volunteers, and pray for the safety for our league. Such a blessing to know that our league & parents still allow prayer before our games!

I was also able to hang out with great friends, answer a few questions about Revolution Church, spend some time with my pastor seeking his wisdom, and catch a few games, too!

Revolution Church sponsored the Angels this year! (I also get to be their coach!) This is a great bunch of 4-6 year olds who have tons of energy and make me proud when they try their best, listen to the coaches, and have fun! What an honor for our church to be able to invest into the lives of these great kids!

It was also great to visit with my parents and in-laws today… the grandparents came to watch the boys’ games, even though they were both rained out.

In closing, I just want to say to the Greenwood Community… You make me proud to live here!

He spoke on Discipleship in a Missional World…

• Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity
  Hebrews 6:1
• We as the church are not thriving at making disciples
• The goal is not church planting, it is disciple making
• It has to start with me! (the pastor/leader)
• Cannot lead people where you do not go yourself
• Worship is essential, it reminds us of the Cross
• Most people have no evidence of spiritual growth
• 3.5% of church goers showed signs of spiritual growth
• 55%  of church goers said they grew spiritually
• We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!
  Hebrews 5:11-12
• Heb 5:11-12 is a description of the American Church
• We have to measure discipleship/ spiritual growth
• Must provide a path to spiritual growth
• Knowing –> Being –> Doing (Colossians 1:9-10)
• American church is good at the knowing… not so good on the other two
• Get people in the Word of God!
• I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

• God will build His Church! If we do it, we steal from God (John Piper)

He spoke on Big Impact in a Small Town…

• God wants churches to succeed more than we do!
• God wants churches to work
• Percentage of healthy churches are low in small towns
• Impact Community!
• Changing tradition is not the changing of values
• There are two types of people you encounter with traditionalism
• Those who don’t understand what you do and don’t care
• Those who don’t understand what you do and desire to know more
• Church is a movement
• Some churched people want to be reached
• First, Best, or Different
• Let your vision be your greatest resource
• People in small towns tend to have small vision… CAST A BIG VISION!
• Must assimilate people quickly!
• In small towns, everything gets out! People TALK!
• Everything is Magnified!!!
• Teach relationship and not religion
• Religion leads to the Valley of Dry Bones
• There is a poverty of Christ followers in small towns
• We must expose the sin of religion!!! (lack of surrender)
• Know your area! Know it’s history, schools, rivalries, economics…
• Cannot nitch in small towns, must reach your city!
• Establish credibility… people in small towns are suspicious of anything new
• Invest in community – show your heart
• Sacrificial, Relational, Intentional… Not accidental
• Small towns have seen excellence, few have experienced it
• Core group is critical
• Core group must be loyal to the vision of your church and to you as the pastor
• Keep a personal touch. It is important!
• Communication is the key to keeping it personal
• Find a need in your community and meet it
• Set realistic expectations & don’t quit!
• Don’t confuse the results of success with success
• God wants His Bride to be beautiful

A few quick items of interest/praise before I get into the highlights of the day.

• Our hotel rooms were listed as $57 a night. Called and they reduced them to $49. When I got here, the lady asked me was I from a church… To which I answered yes… She then reduced our rate to $29 a night!!! PRAISE GOD!
• Good friend Clay Oliver is now on Twitter. He went to a conference with me last November and I started him on Facebook, this conference… Twitter. Clay is over the LIFE Groups at Revolution Church. Go a head… Follow him @ClaySOliver. Hum… not sure what’s next… Blogging, TokBox, hum…
• Great to see some awesome friends! Shawn Lovejoy, J.R. Lee, Gary Lamb, Josh Brickey, Frankie Creel, Paul Peterson & David Putman.
• Had an awesome steak at Outback! (Pardon me while I pray… gluttony  is a sin!!)
• I love hanging out with my team!!!

IVL (In Virtual Life) friend Greg Simmons wrote a post that got me thinking! (scary… I know…)

@GregSimmons is not a IRL (In Real Life) friend; as we have never met in person. It is weird that I would consider him a friend… and never met… but I do.

I met new friend @proudpatriot07 (both IVL & IRL) through twitter, then found out she worked upstairs for the same company I do; We actually met in person one day when I went upstairs to see co-workers @cjcraft and @pbrooks.

I also have a great group of friends (@jkallen, @rickestes, @danieldulaney, @ohitsme, @TabascoRAD, @sbcghostrecon) here in Florence that I met through twitter and are now IRL friends.

I look forward to meeting IVL Florence friends @flossip and @BrianLHoward in real life one day too!

So, what is the point of this post? Not 100% sure other than to make the case that friends come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and connection points into your life. Whether real or virtual, you are all important to me!

CTM was founded in October of 2004 as the weblog of Jim Walton. Please join us as we begin this next chapter of the journey Church Tech Matters.  New features and resources are on the way, as we seek to build a community for the volunteers who make technology in the church sing.  The newest addition to the site is a forum, a place for you to ask questions, answer questions, interact with the  Church Tech Matters authors and more.

Jim’s involvement with Church Tech Matters continues, but he has stepped back and let go of the reins, so to speak, to allow this site to become more than it ever has been.

For those who have been following ChrisReeder.com, you know that Revolution Church launched a brand new Kidz LIFE group location at FunDayGo this past Wednesday night.

Whether you’re a friend, member, guest, prayer partner, or financial partner of Revolution Church… or just reading this blog… We are asking for a time of fasting and prayer for the children of Revolution Church and their leaders.

What is fasting?

Fasting in Chris Reeder terms is this… Doing without something that is hard to do without for a set time. This is done so it does not take time away from your time with God.

Let’s take fasting of food (because I like to eat); Anytime during the time of fasting that I feel the urge to eat, I spend time reading the Bible and/or in prayer. I look to God to fulfill that desire. Other fasting ideas: TV, Internet, Facebook, music, Twitter, and even sex.

King Jehosaphat proclaimed a fast throughout Judah for victory over the Moabites and Ammonites who were attacking them (2 Chronicles 20:3).

We are praying for a Jehosaphat fast!
We pray for victory over the pull that Satan has in the lives of our kidz and youth.

The church in Antioch were worshipping the Lord and fasting when the holy spirit told them to send Barnabas and Saul for work (Acts 13:2).

We are praying for an Antioch fast!
We pray that during our time of fasting, we remember those serving with and over our Revolution Kidz and youth. Pray that they will realize that God is with them and for their protection.

David used fasting as an act of humbling his soul (Psalm 35:13).

We are praying for a David fast!
We pray that during this time of fasting, we will be humbled and see that we must depend on and trust God with our Kidz and our lives.

Moses fasted for forty days and forty nights while he was on the mountain with God. (Exodus 34:28)

We are praying for a Moses fast!
I pray that during this time of fasting and prayer, we will see and hear from God!

Please join us starting Thursday, February 19th at 6:00 PM until Friday, February 20th at 6:00 PM for a time of fasting, prayer, and to see a move of God!
