Happy Friday! This privately owned penthouse apartment is found on top of the One&Only Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa. It has uninterrupted views of the famous Table mountain, as well as Table Bay, and is housed on two levels of approximately 1365m2. The top floor contains the entertainment area with living and dining spaces, descending on to a large deck with an infinity edge swimming pool and barbeque area. The lower floor comprises 4 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, as well as a TV lounge, study and children’s area. It has been designed with a contemporary feel and a neutral palette, with occasional accents of colour. Timber paneling throughout the apartment creates a backdrop for subtle patterns and textures found in the drapery and upholstered items. The Great British Family Home by Redrow

British architecture is amongst some of the oldest and most recognisable in the world. Historians pinpoint the beginnings of recorded British architecture to approximately the fifth century (discounting Neolithic structures like Stonehenge); however what we know about this period architecturally is typically to do with Anglo-Saxon churches and not family dwellings. Nevertheless, British building design has become known as being eclectically diverse in terms of construction and also hugely influential across all forms of structure globally since then. While perhaps some of the most world-renowned British buildings are commercial structures like the modernist Gherkin in the City or the gothic Houses of Parliament, in many ways it’s the simple family home that has become recognisable as being inherently British. Whether it is a ‘pre-fab’ terraced house from the post-war period or a quaint black-and-white Tudor cottage, everyday or domestic architecture has become an important symbol of ‘Britishness’ as well as playing an obvious role in the lives of those living in the country. For new build properties, Redrow Homes has become a leader in the field of quality design and innovative construction. Particularly with the launch of the New Heritage Collection, the award winning company has made a name for itself for quality and socially responsible construction and being committed to providing high standards to homeowners. In terms of design, Redrow homes are particularly interesting. It was in 2009 that the Redrow founder, Steve Morgan, rejoined the company and with his return, he made significant changes regarding how the new builds were constructed. Instead of the clinical and nondescript architecture that had become commonly associated with newly built family homes, Redrow’s new collection focused on the character and charm of older properties whilst still retaining the desired modern furnishings. Steve Morgan’s aim was to give customers exactly what they wanted from a new home and it is this ethos that has gone on to ensure the company’s success. Redrow’s family homes predominantly take inspiration from the Arts and Crafts architectural movement. In brief, this movement began in the 1860s and was made famous by the Pre-Raphaelites John Ruskin and William Morris in the late 1800s. As a direct push against the effects of the industrial revolution and in response to the lack of aesthetically pleasing design out there, Ruskin and Morris put particular emphasis on hand crafted goods, quality materials and art at every level. This style of building can be seen in architecture throughout the late 1800s and in many houses up until the 1930s. The focus on the beauty of natural materials is prevalent in these properties; it’s these character features and pleasing design aesthetics that appeal to many modern house hunters. This is particularly where Redrow were able to take advantage of the gap in the market. By providing houses combining character and modern fixtures and incorporating both the old and the new, the development company was able to create inviting and natural homes that are designed for modern day living. In specific terms, the new homes for sale from Redrow are carefully constructed to get the most out of contemporary family living. This means that the kitchen is at the heart of the house and the living spaces are open plan to give a sense of fluidity and airiness. The layout is designed with family living in mind, so there is a balance between the social interaction and personal space when it comes to the living areas. In addition, the rooms are designed to be adaptable to suit the needs of the homeowners and there is an increased emphasis on adding a personal touch for those customers who purchase in the early stages of construction. While these are generally property features that contemporary homeowners look for in new builds, the New Heritage Collection homes by Redrow are also finished in brick and render to inspire nostalgia and invoke tradition. Other features like dropped eaves, timber and tiled canopies or decorative supports are frequent within the collection and these all contribute to the sense of architectural character. It is clear that Britain’s rich history in terms of traditional building design is something that a huge number of people are proud of and want featured in their homes. Existing traditional properties are not always practical, particularly in terms of maintenance and energy efficiency, so Redrow is certainly onto a winning strategy by combining both the old with the new. It’s not surprising then that Redrow has won a number of awards, including the gold award for the Best Large Housebuilder from the What House? Awards in 2011 and silver in 2012. Furthermore, with Redrow’s focus on durability and family homes that are made to last, it is likely that they will take their own place in contemporary architectural history.

Happy Wednesday! Check out this wonderful nine car garage home. Located in Shinagawa, one of the 23 special wards of Tokyo, Japan. The most remarkable requests in the various clients’ demands are “garage space for nine cars”, “the most favorite car in the living room” and “high tree in the living room”. Since all the request are not able to be accommodated on the project site, the building itself was designed as a big “Living Room”. Utilizing the entire basement, nine cars are able to be parked. Lamborghini is my favorite, by a custom-made lift is a lift to the living room floor. When the lift is lowered, making the system closed other movable floor. Happy Monday! Check out this wonderful house located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The waterfall house was conceived by the request of a young business man in a closed neighborhood. The particularities and requisites of the client, among with the lot's characteristics, established the path to follow in the design process. The borders of the small lot we are referring to, seem to disappear in the predominant visuals: the lake. The surrounding houses, the sun's path and the visual were needed to understand the emplacement. At the back of the lot, at the ground level the lake has a shy presence. So it was considered to raise up to get a better look at the lake. This is the reason why it was decided to place the social area in the upper level, conquering the panoramic views to the lake during the day. It is there where the water shows up. Unexpected at that height, it embraces the architecture and paints it with reflections, bringing life and movement.Appearing and disappearing to the eyes of the user, relaxing with it's sound, dazzling with reflects, going through a path that stimulates the senses. The shallow pool expands the house limits, making them infinite. It erases the line between natural and artificial, inside and outside. The elevated water falls, as a waterfall, over the swimming pool in the lower floor, refreshing the rooms and providing privacy at the same time. This house comprises of three volumes positioned around a central courtyard such that they interact, whilst each wing remains distinct enough to be viewed as an independent entity. The home’s interiors and outdoor areas are configured with flexibility of space in mind so that the house can be adapted to suit a broad spectrum of homeowners. A balance is struck between the man-made spaces and the natural ones, with the building formed from basic elemental shapes with raw-finished materials, such as fair-faced concrete, stone, mild steel, tropical wood and clear glass.
