Designer Profile - Averardo Bessi

Recently, a client came into the store with some amazing vintage dresses. She was a professional organizer and had been assisting a client to clear the clutter from her home. When we saw the dresses, we knew we had something special to offer our clients, with the designs of these dresses very similar to early Emilio Pucci. Who was Bessi? That's when I decided to find out as much as I could about Averardo Bessi. Unfortunately, there is not a lot out of historical information about him. But from what I could ascertain, his dresses were all the rage at Saks 5th Avenue through the 60-70's.

Averardo Bessi was a designer who created his fashion house for men and women in the 1950's after post World War II. The highly sought after vintage label flourished more in the women's fashion world and his collection for women was first presented in 1968 to American, high-end department stores such as Bonwit Teller, Bloomingdales, Bergdorfs and Saks Fifth Avenue.

At the time he wanted to create a contemporary look for women to enhance their femininity through sleek designs. His silk and wool knits, inspired by traditional Florentine techniques and Italian fine craftsmanship were noticed by women of sophisticated taste. The colorful and bold signature prints became in demand by women and carried a strong fashion statement of the modern woman.

Averardo Bessi had always been immersed into the fashion world and had his vision, “I started at a very early age, working in a fashion atelier. My objective was designing and creating clothing for women, as well as men.”

His designs reflect the trends of the moment often reminiscent of Emilio Pucci and Jacques Leonard with bold prints and sleek designs that flatter the female figure instead of covering it up.

Although we know very little about this designer, his designs from the past are spectacular and timeless as women today still collect and wear his beautiful, crafted clothing. This designers continued popularity has sparked a rebirth of the Bessi label and is currently being produced in Italy, carrying his name and hallmark designs in updated silhouettes. Happy Halloween! Great DIY Costumes for the Eternal Procrastinator on a Budget

Always an eternal procrastinator on finding a costume for Halloween, I always expect myself to create a great costume on a small budget. To assist the optimistic procrastinators like me, here are some ideas that I thought I could share that you can create last minute without breaking the bank.

The Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is a fun and colorful option and you can create pretty inexpensively. Find a floral embellished or embroidered top, brightly colored wrap or scarf to use as wrap on your hair and accent with faux flowers. Pair with a full colorful full skirt. Accent the ensemble with lots of colorful beads. To complete the looks, braid your hair up into buns, take eyeliner and create her signature unibrow and finish with bright lipstick.

Orange is the New Black is a super-hit phenom in our pop culture and the ease of putting this costume together is for the best of procrastinators. Find an orange jumpsuit or two piece uniform pantsuit. Wear a long sleeve white t-shirt underneath and pair with black tie up canvas shoes. Get iron on letters and numbers to create an inmate number on the back.

Be inspired by the garden by having a garden gnome get-up. Buy a blue shirt, a red santa hat and go to your nearest fabric store and find shaggy white, piece of fabric big enough to create a beard. Cut the fabric into a shape of a beard.

Create an opening for the mouth, then fasten a string or band to both sides to hold in place like a mask. Take the left over fabric and paste onto the front of the hat to make shaggy eyebrows.

I had a friend came up with a long time ago with a very clever last minute DIY costume and definitely for someone who is budget conscious. Be a deviled egg. Find a white t-shirt paint a large yellow oval on it. Add devil horns to your head and costume is complete.

Everyone loves the American icon Rosie the Riveter from World War II. For all those vintage girls, a super easy, inexpensive costume. Just add retro red scarf and tie over the hair. Wear a cropped fitted denim shirt and tie in front and dark jeans.

Do you want to be comfortable and not cold during Halloween? Try being a kid in footie pajamas with pick tails and teddy bear. An easy costume you can pass-out in if you have had too much to drink after a night of partying.

For those conversations that you want to avoid at a party try being a mime. This budget buster costume is a simple black and white striped shirt, black pants and beret. Paint on white face with black details. Wear black gloves and let your hands do the talking.

If you are a Breakfast at Tiffany's fan, try being Holy Golightly aka Audrey Hepburn. Wear a black, long, vintage dress. Accent with a sparkly necklace, tiara, fake cigarette holder and black long gloves. Whip up wicked cat eye and add long gloves. All you need is a strong martini in hand and you complete her look.

Want to drink like a goddess all night? Try being a Greek Goddess! Make a head

wreath out of faux flowers, leaves and grapes that you can purchase from the Dollar Store. Wear a white bodysuit or white tank and skirt. Create your gown by taking a white sheet or curtain and tie it around your body (DIY tutorial here). Cinch the center with a gold belt and finish with gold sandals.

For the minimalist, try being a stick figure. Dress all in white, take black duct tape, stick to front of outfit as stick figure. Draw a smiley face on paper plate in thick black marker. Cut out eyes. Take rope or band and tape it to back of plate so it becomes a mask.

In love with furry critters, those of the feline variety? Try being a crazy cat lady.

All you need is your slippers and a big fluffy robe. Attach stuffed animal cats staples all over your robe. Add large hair rollers to your hair and glasses to your costumer for full effect.

So my friends, there is no excuse to get out there and have some fun this Halloween no matter how much you are a procrastinator or have a tight budget. Besides, the DIY costumes I see are always the best.

Tips to Help Clean and Restore Your Designer Handbags

We all love our designer or vintage handbags, but over time they start to show signs of aging. Through the years of owning Le Thrift Consignment, I have learned some valuable tips through my consignors and customers to help achieve the best outcome for cleaning and restoring your handbags.

Before trying any of these products or tips, please test them on a small, unnoticeable part of the bag. If the color changes, lightens or lifts, refrain from continuing.

Magic Erasers

The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is a great cleaning product and is perfect for Vachetta (Louis Vuitton) or light colored leather on your designer bag. I would not suggest using it on a darker colored bag, as I have not tried it yet with a darker leather. The Magic Eraser gently lifts any dirts or oils from the leather. I do advise that you are gentle with applying your magic eraser on the bag. Use warm water in a bowl, dip the magic eraser in the water, wring it out so that it is damp. Gently blot the magic eraser on the leather. Do not rub too hard as it will lift the finish on the bag and ruin the texture of the leather. Please note: I have tested this technique with generic brand magic erasers and they fall apart quicker.

Metal Polish
To brighten up metal hardware, use a metal polish cream. I would suggest

Flitz Polish or Blue Magic Polish Cream. Find an old toothbrush and dampen it. Apply a sparing amount of polish to the toothbrush and then in a careful circular motion rub the polish on it. Be careful not to get the polish on the leather. Use a clean, damp rag and gently wipe the polish off. You may need to repeat these steps a few times to get the grime or scratches off the hardware.

Leather Conditioner
Leather conditioner is a great way to keep canvas, leather and even exotic skins supple when restoring a handbag. Make sure you wipe with the grain of leather or skin. Apply the

conditioner lightly, a little goes a long way. Some products that I would recommend are Leather Honey, Cadillac Leather Conditioner or Chamberlain's Leather Milk.

Use a clean soft rag when applying the leather conditioner and gently rub in a soft, circular motion. If it is an exotic skin such as snake, rub in the direction of the skin, not against it. Use the conditioner sparingly as if you use too much, it will leave residue that will attract dust over time. Allow time for the leather conditioner to sink into the leather or skin and dry. Do not use any hand lotions after cleaning and carrying the bag. The oils of the lotion will immediately soak into the leather you just cleaned. Leather conditioner can also be used with canvas bags to keep the material moisturized.

If you have used the Magic Eraser beforehand, I would recommend that you use a leather conditioner after cleaning to protect the leather. Be sure that the cleaned leather is completely dry before applying the leather conditioner.

Baby Wipes
What is gentle enough for baby is also good for your handbag. These are

great to wipe or clean fabric, leather or vinyl interiors. Apply the baby wipe to the interior and lightly rub. Repeat a few times to get most of the grime out.

Rubbing Alcohol
For stubborn stains on interior fabrics, try using rubbing alcohol. Use a damp,

clean sponge and literally apply rubbing alcohol to sponge. Dab alcohol on to lining and repeat steps until the stain starts to lift. Make sure to rinse the sponge with clean, warm water as the stain starts to lift. If you can pull the lining out of the bag, this is better as it prevents the leather or canvas from being touched. For more stubborn stains you can try soaking the affected part in the alcohol. Carefully rinse the cleaned area with water after the stain has been removed.

Stuffing the Bag

Make sure when you are not using your bag to stuff it to keep its shape. This prevents the handbag from getting warped or loose its shape. I usually use old, clean, soft t-shirts that I don't wear anymore. Any acid free, colorless or white tissue paper also works very well. Do not use newspaper as it may transfer the ink to your lining.

Duster Bags
Ladies, the last advice I would like to share with you is to use the dust bags that come with your handbag when storing them. They protect the bag from fading and dust. If you don't have a dust bag you can purchase one second hand on Ebay or buy a new one on Amazon. I prefer the fabric ones over the plastic ones as they allow the materials on the bag to breathe and protects them from UV light.

Restoring Vintage Canvas Designer Handbags

Recently, a vintage, Gucci cross-body handbag came into the store on consignment. I was so excited to have it in the store as I am a big fan of the vintage designer bags. They are made so well and the craftsmanship rivals the designer handbags that are made today.

There is nothing better than a perfectly restored designer, vintage bag. However, this bag and many of the canvas bags often come with stains or discoloration that comes with use and age. The great news about this is that most bags like this can be easily restored to their natural glamour and inexpensively.

With this handbag I used an old toothbrush, a few soft fabric rags and Oxy

Clean Laundry Stain Remover Spray. You can buy cleaner this online or any large retailer like Target or Walmart. Before starting, I would suggest finding a small area to test, to make sure that it works well with the canvas before applying it to the bag. Especially if the bag has something sticky to it. Take a lightly wet rag, then spray the Oxy Cleaner on to a concentrated area. Slightly rub the test area in a circular motion to see if the spray reacts well to the canvas.

If the test is successful, amply spray the Oxy Clean to the rag and slowly, in a circular motion start working on the stain. Do not rub too hard, as you are restoring the bag and don't want to wear off the design on the canvas. Also, be careful to keep the Oxy Clean away from any leather trim on the bag.

The vintage Gucci Cross-body handbag that came in with discoloration from aging.

Once the Oxy Clean is on the area, let it sit for a few minutes. Take a wet toothbrush and again in a circular motion brush the canvas. A used toothbrush or soft bristle toothbrush would work best. At this point the stains or discoloration should be lifting from the canvas. You may need to repeat these steps if the stain is really set in.

Immediately after this step take another rag, wet it with slightly warm water and wipe off the Oxy Clean. Make sure it is fully cleaned off, thoroughly hand dry it and you will see the results. It should look like new again.

This hack does not work with all stains or discoloration, but in my experience of restoring and cleaning bags, it has worked with most.

Although not perfect, you can see a dramatic improvement of the canvas after cleaning.

Although, I have use this method yet, I have heard baby wipes work well for this type of project as well. I will post another blog after I have tried baby wipes and if it is effective.

West Town Artwalk - Meet Chicago Artist Layne Jackson

Le Thrift Consignment is excited to be a part of West Town Art Walk and Food Truck Social this weekend. The Artwalk will take place this Friday, November 30th from 5 to 10 pm and Saturday, October 1st from 12 to 6 pm in the West Town Neighborhood. We will be hosting the amazingly talented, Layne Jackson with her latest works of art at the boutique.

Having been a long fascinated with Layne's work, I wanted to share with you more about the artist that is living and working in the Ukranian Village neighborhood of Chicago.

For the West Town Art Walk 2016, the artist is exhibiting large scale paintings.

What childhood influences do you think shaped the way to you becoming an artist? How did you find your calling as an artist?

One of my childhood friends' father was a well known race car painter. He seemed to have a good life and got to sit in his studio with all of that color around. I would venture in and always loved the smell of the turpentine and oil paint

What type of work are you currently working on?

After twenty years of large images focused on figures in interiors and exterior
environments, and working and teaching in public studios, a move last year back to my

And I will take a cocktail at Mott Street any day

What is your favorite part of being an artist in Chicago?

Chicago is an great place to work in the arts--an abundance of research and opportunities and a strong coalition of talented and professional people. There is strong support and a wealth of ideas for collaboration.

This Winter Might be the Best Thing for Your Vintage Clothes

I keep reading predictions in the media that this winter will bring the strongly anticipated La Nina, the absolute opposite of an El Nino winter in Chicago. What does this mean to us? Icy storms, lots of snow and a heavy helping of frigid air.

Although, this prediction of a 2016 winter deep freeze might be the best thing for our vintage clothes.

I had first acquired this knowledge when I went to go visit my client for a White Glove Pickup in a gorgeous Ukrainian Village apartment in Chicago. The type of building with the huge front porches and colorful flowers tumbling down the side. My client was consigning her mother's items and immediately when I walked into her apartment, I could see that this woman had exquisite taste. I was excited to see and learn about her mother and the stories of how she collected these clothes.

It was then, as we were rifling through her furs, fine wools and leathers that my client mentioned to me that her Mother used to "freeze" her furs. I chuckled and then listened intensely as it sounded non conventional do to this, however I am always excited to learn new things, especially about properly caring for finer clothing.

She told me stories about how her mother would in the dead of winter hang her finest items out in the open cold air and freeze them. Although, her neighbors might of wondered what she was up to, she was rather smart as it was an effective way to rid of dust mites and moth larvae.

See no matter how meticulous you are with your items, especially vintage, you are always running the risk of these little buggers ruining your clothing. Freezing kills the mites and larvae in an effective, inexpensive and green way.

You might not even know you have them, but if you have inherited Grandmas clothing, shopped at an estate sale, thrift store or even are just known as a clothes hoarder (admit it, you can't let go of your favorite sweater from college)... chances are good that you have them. Well stuffed closets of even contemporary clothes offer a perfect, dark habitat for dust mites and moths.

The most effective way to freeze these pests is to hang your clothing outside, for at least eight hours and have the humidity in the air be under 60%. Or you can choose to fold your items into the freezer and keep them there overnight, just be sure not to pack the freezer too tightly. Let the clothes have a chance to breathe and get the cold air in.

See this on your clothes? Chances are you have a moth problem.

Other effective ways for combating these pests is to make sure your items are clean
before storing them, as moth larvae LOVE soiled garments. Store your clean clothing in plastic bags in a cool room. Central heat and a warm rooms makes for a welcoming habitat for these pests.

Also, a thorough spring cleaning at least once a year will help maintain a pest free environment. Our Grandparents generation had the right idea by literally cleaning out, scrubbing and dusting every part of the house. Make sure to take out all clothing, shake it out, open windows, dust and clean out drawers and closets.

I can't tell you how many times I have been on a White Glove Estate pull where I find the likes of vintage Christian Dior, Emanuel Ungaro and similar destroyed by moths and mites and wanted to cry. I hope that sharing this knowledge keeps your valuables damage free to enjoy for many more years.

My client was consigning her mother's items and immediately when I walked into her apartment, I could see that this woman had exquisite taste. I was excited to see and learn about her mother and the stories of how she collected these clothes.

It was then, as we were rifling through her furs, fine wools and leathers that my client mentioned to me that her Mother used to "freeze" her furs. I chuckled and then listened intensely as it sounded non conventional do to this, however I am always excited to learn new things, especially about properly caring for finer clothing.

She told me stories about how her mother would in the dead of winter hang her finest items out in the open cold air and freeze them. Although, her neighbors might of wondered what she was up to, she was rather smart as it was an effective way to rid of dust mites and moth larvae.

See no matter how meticulous you are with your items, especially vintage, you are always running the risk of these little buggers ruining your clothing. Freezing kills the mites and larvae in an effective, inexpensive and green way.

You might not even know you have them, but if you have inherited Grandmas clothing, shopped at an estate sale, thrift store or even are just known as a clothes hoarder (admit it, you can't let go of your favorite sweater from college)... chances are good that you have them. Well stuffed closets of even contemporary clothes offer a perfect, dark habitat for dust mites and moths.

The most effective way to freeze these pests is to hang your clothing outside, for at least eight hours (sun helps) and have the humidity in the air be under 60%. Or you can choose to fold your items into the freezer and keep them in there overnight,just be sure not to pack it too tightly.

A Foxy New Adventure

This summer we received news that Zoe was not getting into the desired highs school she was hoping for. This for many Chicago Mothers is a huge dilemma, when their child is not accepted into the right school and they have the choice of moving to the suburbs or paying for private school. My husband and I searched all over the suburbs, but the property taxes were not attractive to us in a state that runs their budget beyond poorly. The other alternative, private school, we were not excited at the fact of paying for tuition when we are self-employed and responsible for others.

It was then we began searching for alternatives. My husband and I had lived in the city for most of our lives (myself 20 years and my husband longer) and our daughter was born and raised there. We deliberately wanted her to be surrounded with cultural diversity and have a great understanding of the complexity of our world.

We loved our city and her school, and with that we built our businesses. All to feel rejected when it came time to choose a high school.

Chicago has definitely changed, the crime has run rampant, and considering myself a true Chicagoan have lived in a variety of diverse neighborhoods from fringe to upscale. I no longer felt safe. It did not help that recently my daughter and I were shouted at and tailed home by a man who had shown that his intentions were up to no good after simply renting a Red Box movie down the street. It took my husband running outside and threatening him to ward him off. He was not expecting my husband to be there.

There were several other incidents in our neighborhood that helped usher our decision to look for alternatives. After all, if it was just my husband and I, we would not care as much. Big cities have crime and problems that ebb and flow. But, our daughter who is now a independent teen, was the one I worried about.

Although, I won't give up on Chicago. I am keeping my business there, and LOVE my city, even though it is going through a rough patch. It was then I was searching for alternatives. After all, I was an entrepreneur that can push for creativity and work from anywhere?

It was then we decided to move to our lake house that we had been renting out to people on AirBnB. A beautiful 100 year old Craftsman farmhouse. Nearby, the public high school was excellent with a great education that we could offer our daughter. Needless to say, I am lucky enough to have a staff that I can rely on while working remotely.

Our abode where we will be staying the next 9 months. Our hobby to restore & a work in progress.

Besides, I was myself in a rut. My business is humming along, but not growing. As many entrepreneurs can relate, I was working more IN the business rather than ON the business. I needed a chance to step away, regroup and refocus. My husband being self-employed had projects that he could work on remotely. Why not give it a try? After all we were two hours from Chicago? I could come in weekly to check on the store, while really focusing my efforts on GROWING the business.

I can't say much about what is to come with Le Thrift Consignment, although it is all positive as I harness creativity to make it a more successful company for my customers, consignors and employees (I don't want my competitors to know the next move). Besides, thinking outside the box had always been what has made Le Thrift successful to go up against others that are richly funded by venture capitalists.

Then reality hit me as my friend was visiting a few weeks ago. I was really moving to the country. The real country. Late at night as we were sitting by the lake, we saw in the shadows something that resembled our dog. Although, it was long and lanky. It trotted directly towards us in the shadows of the trees, away from the light. As it came closer, my friend and I realized it was a large, adult female fox who was just as startled as us when we came into contact. It was then the reality of this city girl was really making a change in life.

Although, this is just a launching pad for where we are going next. We decided as a family that we were up for an adventure and trying out new things. As long as our daughter has a good education, we are going to move again. This experience now is a test to make sure that my staff and I smooth out the details before jumping again to another city.

While most children would fear this type of life, our daughter who is aspiring to be a travel writer, is jumping into it. She is excited about meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and lifestyles.

Moving forward Chicago will always be considered our home base. It is truly one of the most magnificent cities in the world. It is my really my hope that the politicians that run the city and the state can put us back on track. The people of Chicago deserve better.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Event Wrap Up

Saturday, April 30th was our Annual Breakfast at Tiffany's Event with One Hope United sponsored by Mabél Guzman of @ Properties. This year had a fantastic turnout and we thank all those who came up to support National Child Abuse Awareness Month and One Hope United. The host committee to this years event was Brandis Friedman, Carmela Griffin, Jennaeth Markaj, Mabel Guzman, Ebony Edwards and Christine Sanderson.

This year we raised $1,417.29 for One Hope United from ticket sales and 10% of store sales from the event. Chicago Woman Magazine was gracious enough to cover the event and announce their exciting new plans for the magazine.

Many thanks to Punt N' Plume for generously pouring gourmet wines to our patrons and for The Breakfast Lounge serving mouth watering selections from their menu. The ladies at the event were also pampered with manicures by Raybella Nails and Notable Nails.

The fashion show previewed spring looks that were Breakfast at Tiffany's inspired as well as some modern day looks. The show was styled by Lyndsay Camins of Styled Chicago. Make up and hair were done by Vee Rubio Makeup Artistry.

Who is Cleo?

Chicago Ladies Entrepreneur Organization (CLEO) strives to encourage and empower female business owners through unique collaborations and events.

CLEO was an idea that was born with Rachel Palos of Rad Ass Party and Liliana Salamanca of Sweet Lady Flan. Liliana and Rachel met in the summer of 2013 and began working together for various events. They had one great thing in common: both had just started their own businesses. They began discussing various components of starting and running a business. After attending a few networking events together, they saw the potential in doing similar events. They wanted to create an organization to help other female entrepreneurs, while also networking and bringing awareness to each others businesses.

The sole purpose for creating this organization is for women entrepreneurs to have a platform for empowerment and collaboration with each other. The first event was in December of 2013 and featured five female business owners. In less than a year, the involvement has grown to over 20 female entrepreneurs or business owners.

This past summer I attended the Randolph Street Market with my daughter Zoe, we by fate

stopped at Mashallah Ghouleh's booth. It was easy to stop, as we were immediately drawn in by her alluring jewelry collection.

Mashallah's jewelry has a very natural but edgy influence to it. It was not only a jewelry line that I immediately wanted to open my wallet to, but also a line that I wanted in the store. Her refined and clean designs, mixed with natural and recycled materials makes her collection modern and very of the moment.

I wanted to interview Mashallah and let all our customers know a little bit more about this designer. Stop by to see it as it would make the perfect holiday gift this season or the finishing accessory for your outfit without breaking the budget.

LTC: How did you start designing jewelry? How long ago?

MG: It all started 4 years ago from a girls night that I had planned at my home. It was a wine, cheese and jewelry making kind of night: to make things more interesting. It was a super fun night and many of us were creating interesting things until the wee hours of the morning.

LTC: What inspired you to create your latest jewelry line?

MG: Simplicity, sustainability, and the metaphysical properties found in gemstones.

LTC: What is your favorite fall trend this year?

MG: I was so happy to see the statement white blouse on many runways. For it is one of my wardrobe staples.

LTC: What designers are you inspired by? Any favorite jewelry designers?

MG: I am a lover of literally ALL things from food to fashion and nature to architecture. When I am seeking inspiration for upcoming seasons I refer to my memory bank to help guide me in fusing all elements. Once I have a vision of what I want to create that I know my supporters will love I start a mood board to narrow down and focus on what I feel would be received best.

LTC: On your web site you say you travel to get inspiration for your jewelry line. What

has been your favorite place to travel and the inspiration that has come from it?

MG: With no hesitation that place will always be Paris. Experiencing many designers from all mediums create without regard to playing it safe has allowed me to find strength in my unique design abilities. Primarily making me aware that it is okay to take chances. After all, there is always next season!

LTC: What do you see in the future for Mashallah jewelry?

MG: With my sole dedication to the success of MASHALLAH it is my mission to make my accessories attainable and recognizable worldwide.

A Taste of the South - Dinner at Carriage House Chicago

On Wednesday, September 23rd, we were lucky enough to be invited to the Carriage House End of Summer Celebration on their front patio.

Always wanting to stop in and sample their menu, I was excited to try some of

their dishes. I am a closet junkie of Southern, comfort food and love a restaurant that not only supports local farming, but also attempts to serve organic and pesticide free produce.

The front patio was comfortable with lots of seating options and upon arrival we sampled some of the rose wines on the menu along with delicious Hush Puppy Ham Pops and refreshing, Chilled Watermelon spiked with Tabasco honey, mint and lime.

There was also a Fried Chicken Thigh Sandwich, served with a pickle that had that perfect marriage of crunchy and tangy that assisted in attaining my

fried food fix. At the end there was a gorgeous presentation of the signature Low Country Boil - chock full of Carolina shrimp, clams, rabbit chaurice sausage, sweet corn, red potatoes and grilled lemon. It was the perfect overload of savory combinations to end the meal.

It is definitely worth visiting this establishment in the heart of Wicker Park on Division Street if you are tired of the same old, usual fare that Chicago offers. There were a lot of other dishes that looked appetizing, so I will be coming back for the Shrimp and Grits and the Chicken and Dumplings.

Cookie's Fashion Empire

Recently, Empire, the wildly new popular show on Fox was filming in our

neighborhood of West Town, Chicago. Lucky me! I got a chance to meet Terrence Howard who stars as Lucious Lyon. He was so handsome in real life as well as a total gentleman. I asked him if he had a minute to take a picture.

Unfortunately for me, my IPhone storage was full! Luckily, a customer got to take the picture on her phone. As soon as I get the photo from her, I will make sure to post it on the blog.

With all the Empire action going on in our neighborhood and also being a super-fan of the show, I decided to dedicate this blog to my favorite looks on Cookie, the main, fashion-fueled matriarch on Empire.

I was spellbound last year with the fashion styled by Rita McGhee. Taraji Henson aka the character Cookie had taken the fashion threshold to the next level and McGhee's styling equally matches Cookie's fierce, bold personality dressing her in bold animal inspired prints, chic body-con dresses, plush furs and awe dropping, statement jewelry pieces.

Last season as her character grew more bold in the boardroom, so did her wardrobe. Here are a few of my favorite looks from last season.
