About time! After teasing us for months LeToya is finally almost ready to premiere her documentary/reality show “Life, Love & Music”. And if I’m not dumb (and I don’t think I am) this will serve as a buzz builder for her new upcoming music, which means the single is not far away!! Whohooooo.

H-Town’s diva darling fashions a big year.

LeToya Luckett started her career as part of a singing act, but her life has evolved into a balancing act. With a movie hitting in February, her third album in production and multiple Houston fashion boutiques to juggle, this celeb/fashionista/entrepreneur is setting an ambitious pace for ’12 that’s sure to put your resolutions to shame.

As a co-founder of Destiny’s Child with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, Houston-born Renaissance Woman Luckett  first scored as a musician, winning two Grammys with the group before going solo. Now, the 30-year-old is in the studio every night, hard at work on album No. 3, due to drop in the coming months. Her  first two albums, 2006’s LeToya and Lady Love in 2009, zipped up the R&B charts, and the new disc, said to be inventive, will likely prove similarly successful.

“I’m trying different things, like live instruments,” Luckett says. “I think people are going to hear the difference.” Details about the record are still under wraps, but Luckett says there might be a common thread in all the tracks she co-writes: heart-thumping romance. “All the ups and downs. Love has many faces.”

But before the disc hits, look for Luckett in next month’s From the Rough, a  film about the  first female college golf coach. Luckett plays the girlfriend of a golfer portrayed by Tom Felton. So what kind of kisser is the actor best known as Harry Potter’s sniveling nemesis Draco Malfoy? “You’ve got to watch it to  find out,” she laughs, insisting Felton is a sweetheart in real life.

Luckett seems to have a natural knack for acting. She showed up to her first audition hoping to be considered for a supporting role—and still ended up with the lead in 2010’s Preacher’s Kid, a prodigal-son story in which she leaves home to pursue a singing career. Of course, it probably didn’t hurt that Luckett was able to lend her own gospel-flecked vocals to the part, and that she is a preacher’s kid. Her dad is a minister at Houston’s Brentwood Baptist Church, which is where Luckett took the mic for the  first time as a child.

There’s a little of the real Luckett in all of her roles. She brightened the spy comedy Killers with her true bubbly personality, playing Katherine Heigl’s bestie. In her recurring role in the gritty HBO drama, Treme, playing a new resident of post-Katrina New Orleans, she says she channels the nerves she felt when she  first moved from Houston to L. A., where she lives part-time.

The performer also has a home in River Oaks, and turns up often at the Galleria, her childhood “second home.” It was her love a air with shopping that led her to open Lady L boutique in Uptown Park eight years ago, which her mom helps run.  e shop goes for chic but cute, with lines including Black Halo and Miss Me.

In ’09 they opened a new Lady L, in the Galleria. Besides the threads for men, women and kids hanging among platinum records, the store has something unique: an adjoining dance studio. But, for Luckett, the newer store’s mall setting offers benefits beyond Zumba. “A lot of cute boys in the Galleria,” she laughs. “Eye candy. I’m single so I’m on the lookout.” And she’s not just window-shopping! “I’d love to have a Houston boy. All my family’s down here, so it’d be nice on holidays to come home and not have to  y o somewhere.”

It’s staying close to her family that keeps her grounded, she says, even on blessedly busy days. “I just think sometimes, ‘Wow, God. You really chose me,’” she says. “I’m very thankful I get to live this life.”

We promised it, and we thought Christmas was the perfect time to give you this gift, you know how we like to spoil you here at LETOYANEWS, last year we got you the “Preacher’s Kid” soundtrack and this year there you go we leaking a song: “Take Me Away” in full. It is only a demo so don’t be too harsh on it. It was part of THAT demo CD that LeToya used to shop for a record deal back in 2004. This CD includes the demos of “Torn”, “So Special” and “When I Get Around Him”.

LeToya’s resume getting big. After “Preacher’s Kid”, “Killers”, “Treme” and the soon to be released “From The Rough” Ms Luckett confirmed on twitter that she scored a another role in a new movie called “Note To Self”. She plays the role of Paula Whittaker.
It also features Brian McKnight, NBA stars Morris Peterson (New Orleans Hornets), Ryan Hollins (Cleveland Cavs) and more.

We don’t know much about the plot yet, but apparently viewers won’t be disappointed. Trey Haley is directing it. Christian Keyes who featured in numerous Tyler Perry Productions, wrote the script and also was main character “Curtis”.

More acting news as LeToya is making back and forth trips to New Orleans to tape the 3rd season of Treme.

Hopefully all of that don’t interfere with her releasing new music, as fans have literally been begging her to release new music.

The Big 4 record companies just shrunk to the Big 3 according to the Wall Street Journal’s sources. Citigroup is said to have agreeed to sell EMI Music to Universal for $1.9 billion while Sony is picking up EMI Music Publishing for $2.2 billion. All that’s left now is for the three companies to make it official sometime later today or over the weekend.

What that means for LeToya -if she’s even still with Capitol, a division of EMI?- That means that she will be now under one of the best record companies out there. Universal is home of labels such as Interscope (Black eyed Peas, Mary J Blige, Keyshia Cole, Lady Gaga, Keri Hilson), Island Def Jam (Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Kanye West, Ludacris), Universal Republic (Drake, Jessie J, Kelly Rowland) and more.
Now that the label situation is about to be sorted out, let’s hope she FINALLY releases her long awaited new music.

These bitches at Essence Magazine dared calling us LeToya fans “fans of a certain age” Bitch WHAT???!!! NO THEY DID NOT! They’re basically saying I’m old or some shit?  I’m approaching my fourties but I still feel like I’m 15! SHIIETTT! They might as well say that we’re on the same league as En Vogue fans. Mind you Destiny’s Child will probably reunite when we’re old and when nobody cares anymore. New En Vogue album coming soon by the way. (Single “I’ll Cry Later” is the bomb.com).

We got a winner though here with LeToya revealing more uptempos on the new album. HALLELLOO! Hopefully she’ll give us some sexy dance moves. Hell if Kelly can do it Toya can do it BET-TER!

Fans of certain age will always remember LeToya Luckett as one of the original members of Destiny’s Child. Eleven years post-DC, this Houston native is making waves on her own. Along with releasing two hit solo albums, Luckett has been flexing her acting chops. She stared in “The Preacher’s Kid,” and snagged a recurring role on HBO’s hit show, “Treme.” Now she’s gearing up for her biggest role yet in the inspirational drama, “From the Rough.”

ESSENCE sat down with Luckett, who’s also a Luster’s haircare spokeswoman, and dished about “From the Rough,” her upcoming album, and keeping up with her Destiny’s Child bandmates.

ESSENCE.com: What is the film “From the Rough” about?

LETOYA LUCKETT: It stars Taraji P. Henson, Michael Clark Duncan, and Tom Felton of “Harry Potter.” It’s a true story about Coach Starks, the first — not just African-American — but female to coach a men’s golf team. Before Coach Starks became the golf coach, she was the swim coach for [Texas State University]. My character Stacey was one of her students and I fall in love with Tom Felton’s character. This isn’t necessarily something that Coach Starks wants. So I’m kind of torn between the two people — the one that I love and the one that I look up to.

ESSENCE: Did you feel intimidated working with veterans like Taraji P. Henson and Michael Clark Duncan?

LETOYA: I loved working with Michael Clark Duncan and I’m learning so much from Taraji. I was shaking the first day because these people are in a completely different league. These are Oscar-nominated, Oscar worthy actors. So of course I was nervous, but at the same time I was trying to take in and learn as much as I possibly could.

ESSENCE: We heard you’re in the studio now, what can we expect from the new album?

LETOYA: I am so excited about the new album. Of course it’s going to be R&B, I gotta stay true to my fans. But I want to try some different stuff. I’ve grown from the last album. So, I’m definitely gonna tell my story as I always do. But I’m going to try some different stuff: more live instruments, some soulful stuff, and more uptempos on this album. A lot of people compliment the fact that all of my songs tell a story. I don’t cut a record unless it’s really speaking to someone. I’m actually doing a docu-webseries that I’m releasing on my Twitter (@LeToyaLuckett). I’m going to let the camera in and let the fans in on the progress of this album and other things I’m promoting as well.

ESSENCE: Are you still in contact with your Destiny’s Child albums?

LETOYA: I am! I talk to Kelly all the time. I’m always getting on her about getting rest, and telling her how proud I am of her. She’s working… we’re all working! I’m so happy for Beyonce and the baby and Jay. We all keep in contact. A lot of times people want to make things into a beef or a competition, and I’m like, y’all have no idea!

ESSENCE: Word on the tweets is that you and Slim Thug are back together. Is it true?

LETOYA: That’s very false. It’s super false. I wish him the best.

“From the Rough” will be in theaters in 2012.
