As we step into 2021, Codingal aims to empower our young champions to create a real change in the new year. To help children learn and love coding Codingal launching New Year Coding Challenge for Grade 1 to Grade 12

What will this competition offer?

Winners will get "Google Mini Home" & merchandise from Codingal

Winners will get a 50% discount on "Coding Champion Course" from Codingal

The challenge is about creating change for a better future. The young coders will be given an opportunity to create a gaming app in the Junior Section and create an app, or a website on any UN (United Nations) Sustainable Developments Goals for Middle and Senior Section respectively.

What is Junior InCTF?

Amrita InCTF Junior is a National level Cybersecurity contest for school students in India. Realizing the vital role cybersecurity plays now and in the future for a safer world, many countries are now introducing cybersecurity education at the school level to develop interest and nurture talent in this area. Participation in the contest is fully free and no prior knowledge is required for taking part.

CTFs (Abbreviation for Capture The Flag) are a type of computer security competition. Contestants are presented with a set of challenges which test their creativity, technical (and googling) skills, and problem-solving ability. Challenges usually cover a number of categories, and when solved, each yields a string (called a flag) which is submitted to an online scoring service. CTFs are a great way to learn a wide array of computer security skills in a safe, legal environment, and are hosted and played by many security groups around the world for fun and practice.

Eligibility

Any student studying in India in Class VIII to XII

Participation is fully free: there are no fees for participating in the contest.

The challenges from the previous round of InCTFj are accessible. The detailed solutions to these challenges will be put up later on. New users can use these solutions to learn as the challenges for this round might cover similar concepts as well.

It might also be helpful to learn a bit of programming in languages such as C, Python, Javascript and HTML.

The Internet! The competition will be indefinitely available online at this website. As long as you have the ability to install software and have unfiltered Internet access, the participants can compete from anywhere in India.

Technology Training: MIT App Inventor

This November, Library will be organising free training on MIT App Inventor. The programme is open to all the students of KV Kanjikode. Consent from your parent is mandatory. The live sessions will be scheduled in the evening (4.00 pm to 6:00 pm)

One batch can have up to 20 students. The selection will be on first come first serve basis. If you are interested fill the registration form available in Library Google Classroom.

Don't worry, if you are unable to join the first batch, the sessions will be made available on the Cyber Safety and Coding Club too.

National Cyber Security Awareness Quiz

On the occasion of October being celebrated as National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) globally, Data Security Council of India (DSCI) has decided to conduct an awareness quiz on MyGov Platform.

NCSAM is an initiative to put conscious efforts towards ensuring better cyber security hygiene and incorporate stronger security measures. Cyber Security is now a part of every individual’s life. The more connected we get, safeguarding our digital identities becomes a shared responsibility. The more we share, the more we must care!

The objective of this quiz is to spread awareness around Cyber Security Best Practices among citizens who access online services and must impart basic security hygiene to keep using Digital services securely and #StayCyberSafe.

MIT App Inventor Training Programme

Google Scratch Training by Adore India for Juniors

ADORE INDIA motivates the youth to identify and undertake positive activities for a better society. We are a voluntary network of University students and professionals who interact with students so that they grow and become successful professionals and responsible citizens.

Cyber Safety & Coding Club will be organising a training programme for the member of Cyber Safety & Coding Club Junior this month in association with Adore India. This will be a series of training on various online tools and programming skills planned for the session.

The first batch of the training programme is scheduled to commence on 14 September 2020. The training will be for 5 days and will be conducted on Google Meet from 4.00 PM to 5.00 pm. If you can attend the programme during that time, you can register by filling the form given in the classwork. Only if you can attend all the 5 days, join the programme.

If you have difficulty to attend now, don't worry you can join the next batch on a convenient time and date.

The registration form and consent form format is uploaded on the Club Classroom. Also you will have take a print out of the consent form and get it filled and signed your parent. The consent form should uploaded to this Classroom by 10 September 2020.

The students will be enrolled for the first batch of the above training on first-cum-first-serve basis. Late submissions may be considered only for the next batch.

In this globalized 21st century world,the young minds must be equipped to use the potential of new technologies for their growth and success. It is therefore the urgent need of the hour to reach out to this most responsive demographic, by engaging them in meaningful dialogue and activities which promote Digital Citizenship & Safe online Practices.

Who Can Participate?

Use your artistic skills to show us what online safety means to you.

Send in drawings, painting, comics, memes, stickers and even comic strips. The theme for the competitions is Digital Citizenship and Online Safety. You may choose any topic related to this, such as privacy, safety, trolling, security tips, online fraud, bullying, phishing, vishing, malware etc. Please make sure that the only text your posters have is the caption.

Please refrain from writing any slogans. Winning entries will be shared by the partnering organizations on their social media handles and their websites.

Tech Avishkar
Use your coding and engineering skills to show us what online safety means to you. Your creation can be an implementation of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things among others. .

You can create:
Software* (Mobile apps/Web app /Source Coding)
Hardware** (Innovative Device/Module Development )
Firmware*** (Software Controlled Devices, Appliances, etc.)
The theme for the competitions is Digital Citizenship and Online Safety. Your innovation must address a problem faced in cyberspace, such as privacy issues, safety, trolling, online fraud, bullying, phishing, vishing, malware, etc.

Note:
* Software refers to any script, program or application that can be run on a device. For e.g., gaming apps, browsers, OS, A/V players, etc.
** Hardware refers to machinery or equipment that can be connected to a computer system. For e.g., processors, I/O devices, etc.

Screen Masters
Let out the director in you and create an original video in the form of a short movies/awareness videos/ songs/ satires/ parodies/ documentaries and interviews with a strong message (aligning with the theme of the competition – Digital Citizenship & Online Safety) that would last forever in the minds of those who watch it. You may choose any theme related to the same, such as privacy issues, safety, trolling, security tips, online fraud or even bullying. If you choose to put dialogues or any text in the video, please make sure that it is either in Hindi or English.

Cyber Peace Honours
The Cyber Peace Honors is an award conferred on individuals who have consistently worked on online safety and cyber security to facilitate a peaceful, resilient and inclusive cyberspace for all.
You can be an individual, a group of individuals or even an institution.

Through this award, we hope to bring commendable efforts made by individuals to the forefront. So, if you are someone who has voluntarily put in efforts to promote online safety, register today.
Participants will be shortlisted on the basis of the form they fill online through the eRaksha portal.

As the Covid Lockdown is continuing, the Online Cyber Safety and Coding Club will function online now. Students are requested to contact the Librarian or Computer Teacher for joining the online Club.

The students trained under the Project "Let's be Cyber Smart" will be a part of this club who will help other students to be aware of the various online threats. The members will also get opportunities to learn various online and offline tools for animation, image editing, video editing, gaming, mobile app development, web designing and programming. You will also be getting opportunities to meet and interact with experts on Cyber Safety, Coding etc.

Etiquette on WhatsApp Groups

WhatsApp has revolutionized the way we communicate. The ability to convey messages instantly to the class through the Class Group is very convenient to all.

We need to follow some etiquette to put WhatsApp to better use. These are meant mainly for the Class Groups we maintain in our Vidyalaya to connect with our classes during this lockdown.

Post things that are relevant to the group

Keep the intended purpose of the group. The Class Groups are meant for keeping you up-to-date of the school news, announcement and alerts related to scholastic and c-scholastic activities and programmes of the school. Do not post or forward messages that are not relevant to the class.

Also do not post some unimportant message just below an important message posted by someone.

No personal messages

Avoid personal conversation in a group. If you would like to chat with a friend, do it privately.

Acknowledgement and Thank you's from all not required

If the teacher has posted an instruction or a classwork, no need for everyone to post "Ok, Madam", "I will do it, sir" and things like that. If you have understood the message, follow it. If you need any clarification, post a question.

If you have attended an online test or uploaded an assignment to the Google Classroom, your teacher will be able to see that. No need to say "I have completed the test" and the like.

Similarly, no need for everyone to post "Thank You" ntoes, if someone has posted a useful message.

Congratulations/Birthday Wishes/Condolence Messages

It is always good to wish someone on their birthday or congratulate them for any achievements. Joining someone in their grief and offering condolence is also very much required. A few messages of this nature on the group is ok, but everyone is not supposed to post that in a group.

The best way to do this is to send a private message to the person concerned. If you want everyone in the group to know that you have done so, no doubt the group is the best place for that.

Urgent matters, make a call

You cannot expect the other person to check WhatsApp messages immediately. You are aware of the information explosion on your WhatsApp. So if you need a response immediately better make a call.

Here are a few things more...

Avoid lengthy messages. Be precise and short with the messages.
It is better to post the stories or notes on your Google Drive and provide a link to it that posting the entire content.
When you are posting a video or image, you may add a short description of what it is to help others to decide whether to download and see it (who has got the time to do all these when we are simply forwarding it as received)
