I have a new recipe for you today. I try to cook up food for the 2 weeks between paychecks on Sundays and I did some of that this past weekend. 3 new recipes. Yea&amp;nbsp;Shan! As you may or may-not have heard last Sunday was day 11 of the longest and hottest Heat-Wave the&amp;nbsp;DMV&amp;nbsp;had ever had. Thankfully it stopped the next day but they are&amp;nbsp;predicting&amp;nbsp;high temps again this weekend. Any-whoo, I was kind of in the mood for a Greek Salad, but wanted something with a little more&amp;nbsp;protein&amp;nbsp;and lasting power. They had shrimp in nice little packs on sale at the grocery store and I got the yummiest idea for lunch. Instead of a regular salad or even a cold &quot;pasta&quot; salad, why not use&amp;nbsp;Quinoa. It&#39;s good hot or cold, like pasta and so good in so many different recipes and I had a brand new package at home. 1- Prepare your&amp;nbsp;quinoa. I like this brand that I got at my local Giant, because it&#39;s&amp;nbsp;pre-washed.&amp;nbsp;Anything&amp;nbsp;that makes my job easier and decreases my time in the kitchen (even though I love cooking) is great. I&#39;ve been using Better than Bouillon instead of canned broth. It&#39;s concentrated, 1 tsp = an 8oz can of broth, and it takes up less space than all those cans, it tastes better than cubes and is more cost effective. I actually use 1/2 tsp /8oz and still get tremendous chicken flavor. Oh and it&#39;s 0 points. :)&lt;/div&gt;

I used my George Foreman,&amp;nbsp;cuz&amp;nbsp;like I said it was a&amp;nbsp;bajillion&amp;nbsp;degrees outside, and look how scrumptious they look! All pink and yummy. I actually had them on skewers first but the lid didn&#39;t close all the way like that so I grilled them just on the plates like this and they turned out Fab!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
6- While the shrimps are grilling, prepare the rest of your salad ingredients. I diced up some cucumber and sliced some little grape tomatoes. Your&amp;nbsp;quinoa&amp;nbsp;should be finished by now.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
7- Once everything is cooked mix your veggies, shrimp and&amp;nbsp;quinoa&amp;nbsp;together and add just a splash of the red-wine vinegar (or more to taste). Top with your feta cheese and get ready for the taste explosion.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
8- Enjoy your healthy meal. This meal is 8 W.W. Points Plus points and trust me worth every one. It&#39;s full of wholesome fresh food and the points come from the proteins, so eat up and enjoy! This meal is good served hot, but I think it&#39;s even better served with the&amp;nbsp;quinoa&amp;nbsp;cold.&lt;br /&gt;

Lent ended yesterday and boy was I glad! Every year I give up chocolate. Let me just tell you it makes for a rough 40 days. I always hope its going to jump-start my weight loss, but somehow it never works. :( The worse part is that&#39;s&amp;nbsp;usually&amp;nbsp;when I find all sorts of yummy chocolate related&amp;nbsp;recipes. Go Figure.&lt;br /&gt;

I&#39;ve been filling my Pinterest boards with all sorts of &quot;I&#39;m going to try this once Lent&#39;s over&quot; pins. Coconut Macaroons are one of my all time favorite cookies. I couldn&#39;t believe it when I realized I had never made them before. What in the world have I been doing with my time? LOL!&lt;br /&gt;

I couldn&#39;t believe all the different recipes for them. Some with butter, some with flour, some with Sweetened Condensed milk. I decided to combine the two recipes and see what I could come up with. Since both sites are pretty comprehensive in their instructions I didn&#39;t do a step by step here, just the finished product. The Skinny Taste recipe is 3 points for 2 cookies and mine ended up just a little bigger than hers. She had 17 and I ended up with 14 but still pretty close.&lt;br /&gt;

I used under 1/2 tsp of Nutella, probably closer to 1/4 tsp which only added 50 calories to each cookie. I then added 3 little M&amp;amp;M eggs and they were done.&lt;br /&gt;

Ok, Lot&#39;s of money, if you&#39;re like most women I know who want their hair to be frizz free. Believe it or not, Brazilian Blowouts/ Keratin Treatments aren&#39;t just about getting straight hair it&#39;s about being Frizz-Free.&lt;/div&gt;

I LOVE my curls. I have Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, Kate Winslet in Titanic Beautiful Curls. I also however have Mr. Kotter Frizz. Growing up in the coastal region of Florida a few miles at most from the bay, during the school year, and a short run across the yard, in the summer, was pure bliss....for every aspect of my life except my hair styles. Having a beautician for a mother just made it worse. I simply can not tell you how many times I heard &quot;If you don&#39;t look good, I don&#39;t look good.&quot; Oh Lawdy!&quot; Vidal Sassoon and Good Catholic and Good Jewish guilt giving women the world over had nothing on her. What I wouldn&#39;t have given for a good Keratin treatment back then.&lt;/div&gt;

I can&#39;t tell you the times I spent hours, literally hours, straightening my hair, only to step outside and have the humidity do WICKED things do it. WICKED I tell you! It would never be equally horrible. Wavy on one side frizzy and flat on the other side. Horrible! We often resorted to, *shudder* perms, to try and equalize the curls and chemically calm the mess. My poor hair. ):&lt;/div&gt;

About 10 years ago I tried &quot;The Chinese Straightener&quot;. It was supposed to last about a year. Whatever. It lasted about about a month and then it wasn&#39;t even worth the effort to blow out anymore so I just let it curl and frizz again, because you know, the DMV&#39;s weather is basically the same as Florida&#39;s, heat and humidity wise, we just get that pesky white stuff thrown in during the winter months.&lt;/div&gt;

Well about 2 years ago I decided to try the &quot;Brazilian&quot; Keratin treatment everyone was raving about. I went to my salon and forked over about $350 for the Marcia treatment. First off let me say 1- I have a really sensitive scalp. I generally wash my hair every day. By the time I get to 36 hours I get itchy. At 48 hours I&#39;m usually clawing at my scalp so when I was told I was going to have to leave this on for 72 hours I was freaking out, but I decided I would try. &amp;nbsp;I really liked the Marcia brand treatment. My scalp felt really conditioned (it is after all a protein treatment) and there was no itchiness not even at the 72 hour mark. The second time my salon,&amp;nbsp;unbeknownst&amp;nbsp;to me had switched to the Coppola brand. Let me just say&lt;u style=&quot;font-weight: bold;&quot;&gt;&amp;nbsp;I am not a fan at all!&lt;/u&gt;&amp;nbsp;Literally, as soon as this product hit my scalp I could tell the difference and even commented to my stylist that this was not the same product. By 24 hours, my scalp/hair felt greasy, by 48 hours it just felt dirty and itchy and luckily it could be washed out between 48 and 72 hours because there was &lt;b&gt;&lt;u&gt;no way&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/b&gt;&amp;nbsp;it was staying on my hair any longer. Within days, my hair was not lying smooth. I went back in and had the treatment re-done with the Marcia Chocolate treatment and life was good again. My stylist also tells me these treatments can help extend the life of a good color treatment because it seals the hair shaft. So, while it won&#39;t do anything for your roots it may help your color stay more vibrant, as long as you&#39;re not using sulfate shampoos or other treatments that are stripping the color and keratin from the hair shaft.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If I choose to not blow dry my hair I can still wear my hair curly. It&#39;s not as curly as it used to be, it&#39;s much softer waves but there&#39;s no frizz. If I use hot rollers I get 80&#39;s Cosmo Cover kind of curls and hold. I haven&#39;t had to use a flat iron on my hair in probably over a year, almost 2. Life is good.&lt;/div&gt;

Keratin Treatments are on average $350-600 per treatment and last 2-3 months.&lt;br /&gt;
If we go cheap at $350 and say you get the full 3 months that&#39;s &lt;b&gt;&lt;u&gt;$1400/year&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/b&gt; just for the Keratin alone.&lt;br /&gt;
If we go hi-end at $600 and say you need every 2 months that&#39;s &lt;b&gt;&lt;u&gt;$3600/year&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/b&gt; just for the Keratin.&lt;br /&gt;

I don&#39;t think the pictures accurately capture how flat and greasy my hair was starting to look. I was so glad it was almost time to wash out. My scalp however, still felt great! I want you to promise me you won&#39;t eat all of this before it makes it to the baking dish. Promise.... because, let me tell you... You&#39;re going to want to. Season with some Kosher salt or Sea Salt and some fresh ground black pepper to taste and stir occasionally and wait as the Guinness reduces down. It&#39;s torture, I assure you, but oh so worth it. When you sneak those spoonfuls that you&#39;re going to sneak, you&#39;ll see what I mean. The flavors are simply Amazing. The Guinness&amp;nbsp;surprisingly doesn&#39;t really hit your flavor palate until the end, just a subtle, &quot;Hey, How you doing?&quot; But, it&#39;s so worth it. Seriously, it makes the dish.&lt;br /&gt;

While the Guinness is reducing, take a stick of butter (yes I&#39;m channeling my inner Paula Dean) and slice it up and put it with the potatoes. Then take a 16oz container of Sour Cream (I used Fat Free, You&#39;ll never know the difference, and it offsets the butter a little) and put it in with the potatoes. Give them a rough mash with a masher and then fold gently to mix. I like my potatoes a little lumpy, it&#39;s a texture thing. You can make yours to suit you.&lt;br /&gt;
*Tip*- The more you mash your potatoes the starchier and stiffer they will become, the less you mass the lighter and fluffier.&lt;br /&gt;

So.... Do you Tar-Jay? Come-on now, you know you say it just like that. Tar-Jay. Well, ok maybe not just like that because it&#39;s hard to get that little French accent into English print, but you know what I meant and you Read it that way in your mind, when you read it just now, didn&#39;t you?&lt;br /&gt;

So... Do you? I do. Usually a couple of times a week. On rare occasions when I leave the house without a list (horrors, I know) I have been know to Tar-Jay, twice in one day! I know there&#39;s nothing&amp;nbsp;particularly sexy or fun about going to the store to pick up TP, or tooth-paste or any of the many other things we often got to Target to pick up, but somehow saying Tar-Jay makes it sound just a little bit better, almost like we might be able to have a bit of an adventure while we&#39;re doing it.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Do you like to save money? Uh? Hello? Who doesn&#39;t? That means I have more money for something else, right? Well, If you like to save money, read on, you&#39;re going to want to Thank me, I promise you. If you don&#39;t like to save money because you have plenty of it to throw around, well, I don&#39;t really understand that mentality, but since you have so much of it, please feel free to contact me so you might send some of it to me directly.&lt;br /&gt;

I don&#39;t know about you, but I often find it difficult, even with a list, to get out of that store for under $100.00. It just sucks you in. That&#39;s one of the reasons I find a list so necessary when I go in there. My sister and I often have contests with each other to see who can get out the cheapest. (Great fun that one. We then get in side by side aisles and watch as our cashiers ring us up. So we&#39;re geeks, nothing new there.)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Do you ever get annoyed that they always try to get you to get their Visa card? I always kind of tune them out and have only vaguely registered the whole Target Debit card and 5% discount they kept mentioning. Have you been doing the same thing? Even when I saw the ads on T.V. for 5% off every purchase, I thought there&#39;s got to be some sort of catch, a fee of some sort, but nope I haven&#39;t been able to find any. Apparently Target figures the more they can keep me in their store the more I&#39;ll buy and 5% is a small price to pay. Also, I have been asking all my friends that I know shop there if they have the card and none of them have it and most of them don&#39;t even know about it. In fact I haven&#39;t met a single person who has admitted to having a Target debit card. I think Target is counting on us tuning out after hearing Target Visa and not really listening to 5% off with Target Debit.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Are you interested yet? You should be! This is basically a coupon for 5% off &lt;b&gt;&lt;u&gt;EVERY TIME&lt;/u&gt;&lt;/b&gt; you shop at Target. It doesn&#39;t matter how many times you shop there in a day a week or the month. It doesn&#39;t matter how much the stuff you are buying is on sale for. 50% off, take another 5% off at the register. 75% off after the holidays, take another 5% off. Seriously! It never expires. Are you getting your stuff ready to head for Target yet? If not, Why the Heck Not?&lt;br /&gt;

If you live in the DMV or any of these other nearby states (North Carolina, West Virginia, Pennsylvania or Ohio) you&#39;re in luck! There are 409 locations where you can use this information. &lt;br /&gt;You get $.03 off each gallon automatically everyday. Now, in my area Sheetz is usually the lowest price everyday anyways&amp;nbsp;comparable&amp;nbsp;to even Wawa&#39;s. The only places lower are the big warehouse stores, you know the ones I mean (where you have to have a membership) and even those are usually only about 2-3 cents lower and they are out of my way. In addition with this card I get free food and other discounts in the store, pretty sweet. You can either use the key fob or the &quot;credit card&quot;style card if you hate having all those fobs on your key ring. *Please note I have not been compensated by Sheetz in any way. This endorsement and opinions listed herein are totally my own.* Now if you do not have a Sheetz in your area it might be worth it to check and see if any of your local stations offer something similar to this. I know one of our local grocery stores pairs up with a big name gas station to give you 10-20 cents off a gallon but those stations are&amp;nbsp;&lt;b&gt;almost always&lt;/b&gt;&amp;nbsp;at least 10 cents higher than any of the other stations in the area, so I would have to spend a lot of money on groceries just to get my gas there at the same cost I could get it anywhere else. Not a smart financial move, for me at least. So, I know that 3 cents a gallon, really when you look at it is not a lot. Most of you have 10-12 gallon tanks so it&#39;s what, 30 cents a fill-up but you know what, 30 cents a time depending on how often you fill up adds up.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sometimes it&#39;s the small things in life that trip you up, but you know what else, sometimes it&#39;s the small things in life that can make all the difference. Is 30 cents a week going to do it? You never know. It just might,&amp;nbsp;especially&amp;nbsp;if it&#39;s combined with other savings. Do you ever have a need for comfort food? You know, something that just makes you feel good? Sometimes in the winter I want chili, or stew, or shepherds pie. Sometimes I want something I know is not good for me, like Chicken-fried steak, corn, mashed potatoes with milk gravy and cake for dessert ( a big ole southern meal) maybe throw in some fried okra or fried pickles too or some mac and cheese that&#39;s sooo creamy and cheesy that you have to break the threads just to get the spoon to your face. Do you know what I mean?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
But every once in a while, you need that kind of comfort for breakfast. For me this usually comes in the form of good ole chocolate chip pancakes or waffles. Last weekend however, after my relief at hearing that my healthscare was over I needed a little something more.... I began to scour the cabinets and found chocolate chips, Hershey Kisses and then....wait for it...yep... Reese&#39;s Cups. Little miniature ones left over from making Reese&#39;s Brownie bites a few weeks back. What if I chopped them up and folded them in the batter? I tried it and the resulting concoction was a little taste of heaven let me just tell you. But as I began to drop the cupfuls of batter onto the griddle I realized I was potentially depriving the world of these tastebud pleasing morsels. I knew then that even though this was not a dish that one would or even would consider having on a regular or even semi-regular basis, for you my friends (and I&#39;m certain we are in fact friends, are we not, yes I thought so) I would make the ultimate sacrifice and make these again soon and this time be sure to document the process.&lt;br /&gt;

I can&#39;t swear by the accurateness of the following statement but- I&#39;m quite sure that if you do like I did and you stir these backwards it takes all the fat and calories out and therefore by the time you expend the calories to actually eat and digest them you are then in negative calories. Add this to the nutritional properties of peanuts/peanutbutter and emotional benefits of eating chocolate well, these are soooo freaking good for you I don&#39;t know why you couldn&#39;t eat them on a regular basis!&lt;/div&gt;

That sweet lady with the fab smile (isn&#39;t she cute?) is Melissa. She was our Wine Hostess with the Mostess at the Olive Garden&#39;s FREE (Yes, I said Free!) Wine Tasting Event last night. We sampled 6 different wines, 3 whites, 3 reds from different regions in Italy. Melissa told us all about the different regions in Italy where they came from, what kinds of flavors to expect from each one, which types of dishes they would go best with, that sort of thing. She had a nice appetizer assortment ready for us including cheese, bruschetta with warm toasty bread and different types of olives. When it came time for the dessert wines she even gave us a combination of Olive Garden&#39;s new Dolcini&#39;s, their little, smaller sized desserts. YUM (:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
When I left, I think there had been about 14 people in to participate and there was almost an hour left. Melissa just kept adding the people as they came in and would catch them up and make sure they had a chance to get to try everything. No rush, just take your time and enjoy.&lt;br /&gt;

So....You know what? They&#39;re having another one tonight. Guess what? Yep. It&#39;s&lt;b&gt; Free&lt;/b&gt; too. Uh-Huh. Same rules apply. They&#39;d really like you to go to the Olive Garden FB page and sign up so they kind of have an idea about who&#39;s gonna come by, but I looked at the list of who had signed up yesterday and said yes, and let me tell you, I didn&#39;t see any of those people there last night except yours truly.&lt;br /&gt;

Well, what are you waiting for? Grab a date, or a friend and head on over to your local Olive Garden. Okay, so not right this minute. Get there at 6 when it starts, or maybe a little before then so you can get good seats in their newly&amp;nbsp;remodeled cafe.&amp;nbsp;Here in the DMV, that would be in Fairfax, Falls Church, Vienna, Woodbridge, and Mannassas. They&#39;ll be doing it again next week too, but why wait?&lt;br /&gt;

It can also make you look really smooth if you know the right bottle to order with a meal or to bring to an event. *Hint-Hint*&lt;br /&gt;

Did you know that your local Olive Garden Restaurants are offering Free Wine Tastings in their newly remodeled restaurants. Their servers are specially trained to educate their guests to help them pick the wines that will compliment their meal selections the best. When you go to their restaurants you can get up to 3 samples on any given day of their wines Absolutely Free! Their servers should offer you this service, but if for some reason they don&#39;t, just ask and they will give you the 3, 1 oz samples Free of charge. Most restaurants charge for this, but not the Olive Garden. They really do treat you like family.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
However, they are now taking this one step further. They are offering Free Appetizers and Wine sampling in their Cafe&#39;s as a way to showcase their newly remodeled restaurants and as a Thank-You to their loyal customers they are offering these Free Appetizers and Wine Tastings. They will have Specially Trained Servers in the area just for you to answer any questions you might have and to help educate you regarding wine pairings.&lt;br /&gt;

Hey y&#39;all! My name&#39;s Shannon. Do you make New Year&#39;s Resolutions? I Don&#39;t make Resolutions because I think that too often they&#39;re unrealistic and we set ourselves up for failure with them. So instead of &quot;Resolutions&quot; I just &quot;Resolve&quot; to &quot;Try&quot;. &amp;nbsp;You know to Try Harder, to Try More... You get the idea.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I resolved this year to 1- Make more time for myself. (See I would have already been failing there) However, I am going to look at this blog as a way to that by maybe forcing myself to get out more and explore what my local region has to offer. I do after all, live in an amazing area, so maybe it&#39;s not a fail, just a baby step toward a win. 2- Make my finances a Priority so I could sell my house, buy a condo and start putting more money towards retirement. &lt;u style=&quot;font-weight: bold;&quot;&gt;This&lt;/u&gt;&amp;nbsp;is what really got me started thinking, just yesterday, about yet another blog *groan* *eye roll* because YES, ABSOLUTELY!, What the world needs is another Blog. (More about this in a minute, You can jump down if you have to (: ) 3- Make more time for Family and Friends. 4- Work on my other business, which will of course help out #2. If you want to help out with that or just see some great cards and papercrafting techniques and some links to other sites hop on over there, but not till you&#39;re done here. 5- Finish my degree and start on my next life phase (don&#39;t even get me started *BIG Head Shake* 6- Finish my first novel which is about halfway done and get the second one started, the characters are already swimming around in my head.&lt;br /&gt;

Lucky for me, I&#39;m an empty nester and my boyfriend&#39;s job keeps us separated for long periods at a time so I have all this free time to spend, right?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So, back to my epiphany yesterday, I was watching The Playoffs, were you watching? And Blogging about being able to save money every time I bought gas. Did you hear me? Every time I bought gas in town! Then I thought, &quot;Why should just my stamping peeps get to be in the know?&quot; But, then I thought, &quot;Well my Stampin blog is mainly for Stamping &amp;amp; Designing, (it&#39;s primarily a Creative blog) and what if I wanted to start putting other neat ideas out there for others?&quot; HMMMMM&lt;br /&gt;
I got up yesterday morning and after the week I had was craving comfort food and wanted pancakes but wanted something more than just pancakes and more than even just Chocolate Chip pancakes, so you know what I made, Pancakes with chopped up mini Reece&#39;s cups. O. M. GEEEEE! They were Soooo GOOD! I realized in the middle of making them how good they were going to be but it was too late then to take pictures with my crappy picture taking BB, so I&#39;ll have to do that next time, but I thought maybe my design blog isn&#39;t the best place for my comfort food but a blog sharing blog would be just right.&lt;br /&gt;

Now trust me on this when I tell you- I&#39;m never gonna be as funny as &lt;a href=&quot;http://cookiesandcups.com/&quot;&gt;Shelly&lt;/a&gt; or &lt;a href=&quot;http://thatswhatwesaid.net/&quot;&gt;Shelly and Kristan&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp;or as talented a cooker or baker as those other fine ladies and that&#39;s ok because I&#39;ll just send you to their sites. Let&#39;s face it, a lot of the time, they&#39;ve done the recipe searches for us a head of time anyways. What I will do is pass on whatever money-saving, or time saving tips I can find or fun things I can find to do or maybe just something new that interest me. I&#39;ll do it for as long as I can find stuff out there (which with all the stuff out there hopefully will be a while, maybe I&#39;ll get some sponsors- Hey Wineries listen -up!) and as long as I can find the time to keep up with it. This will&amp;nbsp;definitely&amp;nbsp;not be an everyday blog, but I hope that you will Google friend me, or put me on your reader or sign up for e-mail alerts so you know when something new comes out.&lt;br /&gt;
