The Shimano Waxwing is the next generation of Sub-Surface swimming jigs for saltwater fisherman. Simply cast the jig out and point your rod tip straight towards the jig, then start reeling. This jig swims side-to-side in a zigzag motion with an irregular kicking action which trigger the fish strike.

They’ve been around in the USA since 2010 and were introduced into New Zealand and Australia mid last year, we got our hands on several a few months back and have been extremely surprised and excited with the results this lure.

Over the past few months we’ve been testing the Shimano Waxwing Jig on some of our Jigging for yellow tail Kingfish trips and have been amazed with how effortless the lures are to use, it really doesn’t make much difference whether you’re an experienced or novice when it comes to jigging; it’s just a basic cast and retrieve at a medium pace.

The secret in this hard body lure is the irregular kick produced by the two unique wings; the bottom one keeps the lure very stable while the top one catches different shapes in the water as the lure moves side to side; so every third or fourth wobble it shifts off to the side. No one retrieve is ever the same; the fish just can’t resist chasing them to the surface.

Having super strong up turn hooks and reinforced with wire going straight through these jigs are easily ready for the tougher fighting fish; also with a weight balance for accurate and further casting in all kinds of weather.
