During this show we will be using things like Arduinos, PIC chips and Raspberry Pie's to make all kinds of electronic gadgets.

We are making these gadgets to learn how they work. Not technical, not to worry, we are going to start really simple and teach you as we go along. All it requires is a desire to want to learn some programming and electronics.

This show is hosted by Mike Myers of Genius Idea Studio. Mike has many years of designing hardware and developing software for the hardware.

If you have ever followed the Maker Community then this show is for you. Want to learn some basic programming and electronics? This is the show to get you started.</description>

The radio is available for $59 and the upgrades are about $40 total. So for $100 you get a radio that is worth $300 - $400.

Plus, I flash the new code so you can see how much better the new code is than what came on the radio. I now have much more flexibility with the switches, the interface makes sense and so much more.</itunes:summary><itunes:image href="http://tech-zen.tv/images/albumart/letsmakeit-audio-1400x1400.jpg"/><itunes:duration>00:47:02</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>RC, Radio Control, Rmote Control, Flysky, Flysky 9X, Turnigy, Turnigy 9X, FR-Sky, FR-Sky RF Module, Telemetry, Failsafe, RC Model, RC Radio</itunes:keywords>

The math we cover in this episode is the same if you a building a quadcopter, hexacopter, octocopter and even a tricopter.

We decided to tackle the math part first because before you buy any parts you need to know what parts and what values for those parts you need.

So many times people skip this step and get a mashup of parts that do not work well or maybe not even work at all without smoke.

We have seen so many people talking about the values without understanding what the values mean and spreading mis-information. We hope to clear all of that up in this episode.</itunes:summary><itunes:image href="http://tech-zen.tv/images/albumart/letsmakeit-audio-1400x1400.jpg"/><itunes:duration>00:44:15</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>quadcopter, hexacopter, octocopter, drone, multirotor, FPV, tricopter, Math, Motors, Motor Size, Batteries, Battery Size</itunes:keywords>

In this episode we talk about just one of the ways. We introduce you to a 16 bit I/O chip that runs over i2C. You can put up to 8 of these chips on the i@c bus to add 112 I/O ports to your Arduino using just 2 pins on the Arduino itself.

The chip we demonstrate is a Microchip MCP23017. And we go so much further than just blinking lights. We have 2 stop lights and sensors to know when a car is waiting.

Also, in this episode we introduce state tables and a new structure that we have not talked about before, the switch or case statement.

You even get to see me mess up by not saving my examples before the show. But this is good because it demonstrates just easy it is switch the cascading if-then-else to a switch/case structure.</itunes:summary><itunes:image href="http://tech-zen.tv/images/albumart/letsmakeit-audio-1400x1400.jpg"/><itunes:duration>00:38:01</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>Arduino, Raspberry Pie, PCI Chip, PCB, PC BOARD, Schematic, Circuit, Electronics, Robotics, Tech-Zen.tv, Let's Make It, PIC Microcontroller, Traffic Light, Stop Light, Traffic Sensor</itunes:keywords>

We play with 5 different sensors connected to the arduino. And you get to watch as we have a colossal failure with one of the sensors. We did not edit it out so you get to see the problems we had. Funny how things stop working when it is show time.

We show you the Virtuabotix DHT11 Digital Temperature / humidity sensor, The Virtuabotix MMA7361 Three Axis Accelerometer, the HC-SR501 Human Sensor Module (motion detector), The Ultrasonic HC-SR04 Distance Sensor, and our big failure this week, the SainSmart Color Recognition / Discrimination Sensor TCS3200d / TCS230D.</itunes:summary><itunes:image href="http://tech-zen.tv/images/albumart/letsmakeit-audio-1400x1400.jpg"/><itunes:duration>00:53:21</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords>Arduino, Raspberry Pie, PCI Chip, PCB, PC BOARD, Schematic, Circuit, Electronics, Robotics, Tech-Zen.tv, Let's Make It, PIC Microcontroller, sensors, HC-SR04, TCS3200D, TCS230D, HC-SR501, DHT11, MMA7361, Accelerometer, Temperature Sensor</itunes:keywords>
