As tradition required, Nuch dragged me to the local temple to make merit (donate some food and money) for my birthday.

I'm usually a brat about the whole thing, but it only takes about 15 minutes and unlike going to church, you can wear your flip flops.

I try to look and act so miserable that she'll never take me again (no luck yet), but to be fair - feeding the fish is kinda fun.

Like most people who have ever bought or registered for something online, I receive a dozen or so standardized/ cookie cutter birthday emails from various websites every year on Feb 9th.

I thought this was just another one until I read it more closely.

By the way, I have no idea how I got on Emily's List. I don't even know who Emily is.

This is the first time that I've ever seen a self service gas station in Thailand.

With the novelty of being able to pump your own gas, Nuch and I had a little fight to see who got to pump - of course, I let her win.

We want you to try this sandwich.

That's what it said on the wrapper, so I bought one.

It wasn't bad, but the tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and egg, also, on the wrapper are a bit deceptive - being that there were none.

It's a little late to post this, but for the record, Nuch and I went to Niu's on Silom for our 5th anniversary dinner. It's a restaurant/ Jazz bar.

It was Christmas Eve on Silom

For Christmas Dinner, we had a somewhat untraditional meal at the Hopf Hause in Pattaya.

I had a calzone

and Nuch had grilled prawns.

Topped off with a Sunday at Swenson's

Here are some quick pics from our trip to Pattaya where we stayed at the Marriott Resort & Spa.

Here's the view from our balcony in the day time

and at night

a walk around the grounds

We spent the most of the day at the beach under the umbrellas

Nuch did some shopping at the sidewalk market. I offered to buy her some woolly shorts.

Here are some pictures from our dinner last night.

Nuch and I joined a few of her high school friends for dinner and drinks at the deck. Wat Arun is located just across the river.

The theme of the evening was large prawns.

With the King's Birthday on Dec 5th and Christmas just around the corner, it was time for the local government office to bring out all the lights.

This is the, typically, dark and quiet road from the expressway to our house.

I think it's safe to say that the threat of our little corner of Bangkok being flooded has passed, and for the most part, the water levels everywhere else are going down.

Here are some final photos from the Bangkok flood.

Towards the end, supplies were running dangerously low. At a local 7-11 the only alcohol remaining was some homemade moonshine.

Milk was also in short supply.

Christmas sofa orders have all been sent, so time to catch up on some blog posts. This is the wedding of one of Nuch's Thai Air colleagues.

A 9 layered cake. Very auspicious.

Apparently, his family has some connections - here they are with Princess Srindhorn

The wedding lasted about 30 minutes. Nuch and her friends spent the other 2 hours taking pictures.

2. Right to free education

3. Protection of human rights for all citizens

4. Burgeoning middle class

5. Modern public transportation system
