Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is: Make a photograph dominated by green today.

This green photo also contains water, patterns, diagonal lines, rule of thirds. It also has a freshness about it (yesterday's challenge).

Today's Challenge was to photograph "randomness."

The stones stuck in this grid created a random pattern. I thought about this assignment all day and kept trying to photograph randomness in nature. What I discovered is that randomness was more easily identified with inert objects.

While visiting friends in Sebastopol, California, this scene in their bathroom caught my eye. A simple blue bottle reflected in the mirror.

Rather than shoot the usual stream or ocean scene, I happened upon a busy pool scene and couldn't resist capturing a second in time.

This is a typical scene with a California Live Oak of Central Coast California. I love the scene.

I eat meat but for some reason I feel repulsed by it when I see it like this. I wonder how the cow was treated. What does the picture make you think?

Yesterday's (just posting today) shoot: Photograph a smile.

Since John and Gingee wouldn't cooperate with me and my camera for a smile, I took things into my own hands and created my own smile. (John will think about his grandma's quilt next time I ask him to smile for the camera!)

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is: Make a low contrast photo today. Concentrate on other cues—such as line and texture—to create your photograph.

This picture was taken in natural indoor light with an ISO of 800. It is a macro shot to emphasize texture. This is the first time that I intentionally shot with a high ISO. I like the effect.

Today's Shoot: Capture a repeating pattern.

I engaged in a photo shoot with a ribbon that I saved from the holidays today. I can actually imagine working with this ribbon for hours as I try to discover what I and my camera can accomplish. Further, in photoshop editing, I attempted to create a high key shot. What do you think?

I like this print because it reminds me of my beginnings with black and white photography nearly twenty five years ago. The graininess of it reminds me of the darkroom prints I use to make. Of course, all that was before cell phones!

As I walked Gingee (my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) after her dinner in Manzanita Park (Prunedale, CA) where we volunteer, I looked out at the stormy clouds and snapped this shot. How beautiful is that sky?

I'm calmly and patiently working through a list of things to do this rainy day as I prepare for a road trip to Los Angeles tomorrow. The rain makes me feel a little lazy but I'm focused too. (This is my cavalier king charles spaniel Gingee modeling my mood for me.)

What is a high key photograph?

According to Norma Jones' art terms: High key is characterized by an overall feeling of lightness but without strong contrasting colors or values

What are bright tones?

Tone according to dictionary.com is: a quality of color with reference to the degree of absorption or reflection of light; a tint or shade; value.

When the sun broke out this rainy morning (at Manzanita Park in Prunedale, California) and illuminated the wet foliage of plants, I rushed out with my camera and shot as many scenes as possible before the sun was gone again. The terms high key and bright tones in relation to digital photography are new to me. But based on my cursory understanding, the shot of the pine needles and seeds seems to fit the order. What do you think?
