High Wind Warning

Statement as of 9:49 AM PST on February 21, 2012

… High Wind Warning remains in effect from 7 PM this evening to
4 PM PST Wednesday…

* winds: southwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph.

* Timing: places along the foothills of the Blue Mountains like
Pomeroy and Alpowa Summit will become quite windy this
evening. The strongest winds for the Pullman and Lewiston
areas will likely occur with the passage of the cold front
between 3 am and 5 am.

* Locations: Pomeroy… Alpowa Summit… Pullman… Colfax…
Moscow… Lewiston… Clarkston… Potlatch… La Crosse.

* Impacts: strong winds will make controlling high profile
vehicles difficult. Strong wind gusts may cause power
outages… tree and building damage especially on exposed
terrain. Unsecured high profile objects may become airborne.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

Might be some sailing opportunities later this week. IF… the weather forecast is accurate. If this looks good around Thursday I will rig my MacGregor 26 up for some weekend sailing. Anyone else up for Fair Weather Feb Sailing? Since I just bottom painted and repaired swing keel dings etc., I want to be nice to my boat and with the possibility of several days of rain and a thaw, there might be lots of logs. I would appreciate a report from anyone with information on the river log situation. If a drive along the river indicates this is a potential problem, I’m thinking of launching at Wawawai heading downstream through the Lower Granite Dam and trying the waters below the dam. Would there be anyone interested in cruising those waters?

New Year’s Day Sail 2012

How could New Year’s Day possible sneak up on me? Anyway, tomorrow at noon we sail from the Hell’s Canyon Marina (west end of Clarkston) to the Blue Bridge and back to ring in the new year. Arrive early to avoid the polar bear crowd.

East wind, partial sun, three bridges, two hours, peaceful albeit lonely.
