Learn how to use books, programs and other resources at your library to prepare your pre-schooler for reading success. Pre-register by March 5 for this free six week workshop at the Community Center, beginning March 14 at 6pm and continuing each Wednesday evening through April 18. Food For Fines

“End Hunger Games” is the theme for this year’s Food for Fines program. During March 12-24, each non-perishable food item donated will eliminate $1.00 of Lewiston City Library overdue fines and will get your name into the Reaping (a drawing) for a chance to win a pair of movie passes or “The Hunger Games” Trilogy.

Dine at a Happy Day Restaurant in February

Dine at one of the Lewiston Happy Day restaurants in February and you have the option of adding $1 to your bill to support the Lewiston Library Foundation building campaign. Participating restaurants include Main St Grill, Zany Graze, Southway Pizzeria, Lewiston Taco Time and both Lewiston Arby’s. Go ahead, eat for a great cause!

Annual Gala – Hawaiian Holiday

The Lewiston Library Foundation’s sixth annual Gala will be April 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Lewis Clark Plaza in downtown Lewiston. The theme this year is Hawaiian Holiday. Tickets are on sale now for $100 and can be purchased from any board member or at the Tsceminicum Library. The winner of the ticket drawn at the gala will have $5000 to use towards a trip destination of their choice.

Choice hearty hors d’oeuvres, wine, beer and soda are included in the price of the ticket. Tickets may be purchased from a library board member, at the library on Thain, by calling Kathy Fellows at 208-743-4470 for ticket delivery, or by calling Sharroll St. Marie at 208-743-2825.

The Foundation has raised almost $100,000 from the past galas with all money going towards the renovation of the former Erb Hardware building in downtown Lewiston – the home of Lewiston’s new library.

Year End Tax Planning

The Lewiston Library Foundation wants you to know about an expanded Idaho Income Tax Credit.

Now you can get a Tax Credit on your individual Idaho tax return, even if you do not itemize deductions, of 50% of your donation to a qualified educational organization up to a maximum of $1,000 on a joint return (or $500 on a single return) but not to exceed 50% of your income tax liability.

The Lewiston Library Foundation is a qualifying organization for your donation to be eligible for the tax credit.

For example, a $2,000 donation to the Lewiston Library Foundation by a married couple would qualify for a $1,000 tax credit on a joint return, actually only costing you $1,000, but the Foundation would benefit from the $2,000 donation. Likewise, a $500 donation would qualify for $250 tax credit. The credit may not exceed 50% of your income tax liability.

For a corporation, the tax credit is 50% of the contribution to a maximum of $5,000 or 10% of the corporation tax liability, whichever is less.

If you would like to support the Lewiston Library Foundation and receive the benefit of an Idaho tax credit, donations can be mailed to:Lewiston Library Foundation, PO Box 1055, Lewiston, ID 83501.

Cruisin’ the Carribean

The 5th annual Spring fundraiser on Saturday, April 16 was a huge success. Congratulations to Ed Miller of Lewiston for winning a fabulous Carribean Cruise vacation.

Off the Wall … And More!

The 2nd OFF THE WALL and MORE fundraiser was held September 10 and 11, 2010 and was a great success, raising over $7100 for the Library Building Fund.

This event is held only every other year and the first two events have been so successful that over $13,000 has been raised toward building a new library.

Save your donations for the next sale of wall art and objects that sit on tables like vases, figurines, lamps etc. but no furniture. If you need to donate your items before the next sale, call the Lewiston City Library to make arrangements. Thank you for helping make a new library for Lewiston a reality.

Summer in Seville

The 4th annual fundraising gala was held April 17 and was successful in raising more than $17,000 toward a new library facility. The event featured gourmet hors d’oeuvres, live music and featured a drawing for a trip for two to Spain. The lucky winner was Maxine Miller who said she was “thrilled and humbled” by her stroke of good luck.

Tuscan Holiday Gala

The Library Foundation’s annual fundraising gala was a huge success. Happy winner of the $5,000 trip for two to Italy was Lewiston Police Chief Steven Orr. When his name was announced, Chief Orr exclaimed, “Wow, this is great. I never win anything!” Chief Orr and his wife Toni chose to substitute a destination of Hawaii for Italy. They report having had a wonderful time and appreciated the award. Steven and Toni, and thank you for your support of the Lewiston Library Foundation!
