Yeti Airlines Versus Buddha Air

Ooo!!! Don't you love a bit of healthy competition. Now I don't quite know which airline published their advertisement first but both airlines got their chance to get it off their chest on a national Nepali newspaper. Above is Yeti Airlines poking fun at Buddha Air's ATR fleet. Buddha Air is the only Nepali airline which operates the ATR fleet that can fly 60+ passengers at once.

Now getting back at Yeti Airlines, Buddha Air posted a fancy ad campaign informing their customers the 'facts' of the airline; bigger is better. Says it all. It's quite entertaining to observe, both airlines are good for their own reasons. Yeti flies to more rural destinations and has a wide destination reach whilst Buddha Air always believes in quality and has well managed and newly acquired aircrafts. Buddha Air was also the only Nepali airline that hadn't suffered any crashes till last year.

I seem to be jumping on the Nepali timing bandwagon here, sorry for the slow updates. Being extra busy lately thanks to 'being lexlimbu', but gettting to the point... Voting for T-FEST is now OPEN. You probably have seen the contestants videos being published on lexlimbu.com/shared on facebook etc each day, if you liked any of them then now is your chance to vote for the one of your choice.

There are two categories; TOP 6 and Best Self-Composed Song. The TOP 6 with the most votes will go through to the finals which will take place on the 12th April in London and the votes from the 'Best Self-Composed Song' will be added on from each round for the winner to be announced on the 12th April too! Voting time is limited and only open till this Friday 2nd March till 23.59PM, so get voting; ITS FREE!

With the first gig down, there are still two gigs left for the 13 contestants to perform in. Catch them live on Saturday 3rd March in Farnborough and Maidstone in 17th March. Voting will also follow on after those rounds.

Adventure Of The Year : Sano Babu and Lakpa

Sano Babu Sunuwar and Lakpa Tsheri Sherpa's three-month long adventure titled The Ultimate Descent won the National Geographic's 'People's Choice Adventurers of the Year' today, over 72,000 votes was cast worldwide by supporters choosing their adventurer. The Ultimate Descent was one of 12 adventures shortlisted in the category for the 'Adventurers of the Year'.

There has never been a specific influence for our band as any good music from classical, blues, rock, heavy-metal, and progressive have always been admired. We are now on a journey to focus more on heavy-metal with alternative and classical touch in terms of sound. Lyrics hold a great meaning to our song and much is based on freedom and humanity. Hong Kong, Denmark, Finland, Australia, USA have been LOOTED and more countries including South Korea, Qatar and UK are yet to witness the magic behind LOOT.

Whilst the promotion is sky high, one must also acknowledge the current trend of Nepali movies being made and compare that to LOOT in order to realise what worked in LOOT which didn't quite so well for many other productions. LOOT's not an extraordinary movie, it's a simple movie... and that's the things that has worked.

Below are some fast facts of LOOT made by blogger/beauty queen Samriddhi Rai on her blog:

Loot was made with a budget of around 50 lakhs. It raked a total of 2 crore, 55 lakhs as of Friday morning, Febraury 24.
Rs. 13416670 that is 1 crore, 34 lakhs, 16 thousand, 670 rupees was collected in QFX cinemas alone. QFX cinemas started with the inception of Jai Nepal in 2001 and now runs its uber popular movie theatres from 3 locations in Kathmandu. But you know that by now already right?
QFX had to take off Agneepath and another English movie to screen Loot because of its high demand.
For many days in the first week of screening Loot, in many halls there was 100% occupancy by male audience only. Young guys who came to watch the movie in their bikes to be precise.

Though I'm not following the show, I hear Gurung is making a remarkable impact on the show as part of 'Terence ki Toli' and has also made it to the TOP 13, great news right! We wish he continues his journey to the top.

As an Artist I consider my name as 'Pabzee Phame'. Born and raised in Nepal, Pokhara my hometown. But shortly at the age of just 7, came to UK and have been living here ever since. Life,Love,Family and Music are the four things that I consider essential in my life. Growing up, it was hard, but it was through music, that I could express my emotions and feelings towards how I felt. Throughout Music is how I get respect and let people know who I truly am. When people normally ask who your main inspiration in music is? People normally start naming lots of artists, but to me, my main inspirations are my family and love. However successful I become in music or anything, I do it for them, they mean the world to me. When it comes to the genre of the music, I mostly like all types of music, whether its Rock or hip-hop etc. It makes no difference to me.

I would love to be a singer but unfortunately I wasn't gifted with the voice for singing.
So that's why I started Rapping and I turned out to be better than I thought.

What I initially love most about music is performing. I love performing.
Honestly, nothing gets better then the crowd enjoying and having a good time from your performance. Once I get a good vibes from crowd it really makes me feel better and improve as an artist. Apart from my passion for music, I also like to play football & Basketball.

Rajesh Hamal Coming To UK!

As the Nepali calendar draws to an end for another year, it's time for the New Year festivities and celebrations to be announced and what could be better than Samsara Nepal UK's latest announcement which is that the 'Maha-Nayak' the legend himself, Rajesh Hamal will be joining the Nepali diaspora communities in the UK to usher the Nepali New Year. Alongside actor Hamal will be the couple that makes millions laugh in Nepal, and also those that watch it on dcnepal.com [lol], the Tito-Satya duo Deepak Raj Giri and Deepashri Niraula. I'm already wondering how long the show will be because there's in-fact more acts following up the star-studded list.

Musicians Dipu Gurung, Himal Sagar, Bivek Shrestha and Kranti Ale will also be belting our their hits for the hundreds that are expected to turn up to the shows that will be taking place in Ealing, Hawkinge, Plumstead and Reading. I can't quite imagine Rajesh Hamal doing a stage dance performance, I'm guessing he will be sharing few words and saying Happy New Year, very excited about Deepak Raj Giri and Deepashri Niraula tho, bet it'll be a laughathon!!

I'm a music lover with a huge passion for singing. Having started by singing career since my school life when I was in class 6, I also took part in many school functions which helped me to build my confidence level. College life was really fun and I used to take part in almost all college events. My colleagues were so encouraging, that really helped me to participate in NEPALI TARA 2. Among all 14,000 contestants from all over Nepal I managed to reach up to the TOP 13. It was my bad luck that my illness led to a poor performance hence I couldn't further in the competition. I also took part in another competition called BAND VASKER, my band was able to reach up to the TOP 4. The management team of the show could not take the show further hence the show stopped.

I have performed in many national and inaternational shows in Dubai, Qatar, India and UK. Id this show goes in my favour and if I win it, it will definitely help lift my singing career.

Nepali Nationals Lose Thousands In Visa Scam!

Nepal born Jyoti Shrestha was conned out of £11,000 in promise for a British Citizenship and work permits for relatives by a fake visa 'fixer' Jack Plancey. The good news is that 30 year old Plancey has been jailed for 12 months after amassing up to £30,000 from immigrants desperate to live and work in the UK. Jyoti was not a lone victim of Plancey's fraud as many other immigrants also fell prey to his lies. Several other Nepalese [unidentified] are believed to have lost out on their hard earned capital on this visa scam which is the latest to hit Britain.

For many readers of my blog that do not live in Britain, stories such as these are common here. I'm sure similar can be said in the US, Australia and other developed nations. Due to the constant policy changes for international students by the Home Office, many Nepalis who came here to study are left with no option but to return to Nepal or pay more and attend a university [instead of a college institute]. Whilst some have called it quits and left for Nepal, the number of students opting to pay their way into France, Spain and Belgium are slowly increasing. Those making these decisions are hoping to be accepted better in those countries courtesy of their more laid-back immigration rules, not to forget an easier chance of earning a nationality.

It's a hard life...

I have always loved singing and entertaining people. My music style is mostly acoustic and traditional Nepali songs. I love acoustic performances as I feel this really show's my feelings through the lyrics and my singing. I feel through T-FEST I can reach out to people with my singing and inspire others to sing and love music like I do. For me T-FEST isn't just about winning, but gaining experience and working alongside other great artists. T-FEST is a great platform to showcase the current Nepalese talents around the UK and I hope I can positively represent Nepali youths of this generation. Thank you.

Chandra Bahadur Dangi - Will He Set the Record??

Khagendra Thapa Magar held the Guiness World Record for being the smallest man in the world in October 2010, however his record was shortly beaten by another little fellow from a different corner in the world. But it looks like maybe Nepal is ready to set the record for the smallest man in the world second time round thanks to 72 year old Chandra Bahadur Dangi.

Dangi who hails from a remote village in Dang measures just 22 inches tall. Similarly, Khagendra Thapa Magar also measured to be 22 inches tall so we will have to wait and see if the Guiness World Records team (who are already on their way to Nepal) announce Chandra Bahadur as the smallest man in the world or not. The verification is set to take place on later today! Small or not, hope the man is happy with all that's surrounding him at the moment.

Actually, I have to say it. I dislike this... it's as if he's an animal... an object which everyone is just staring at, wanting to see/meet, measure... Not quite a fan of this practice. Dangi had apparently never left his village prior to this world record hoohha! How do you guys feel?

I started singing at the age of 16. Having started in a school band in Hong Kong my position was as a lead guitarist, however I didn't perform much in Hong Kong. Our band was dismissed the day I left and came to UK. I didn't do much until the age of 16 when I really started to take my singing career seriously with the help and support from my family. I am also studying to be a chef and hope that one day I will be a successful Chefone but beside that I would also like to show my passion for music as I really love to perform. My main inspiration behind me singing has been my mom who has really inspired me to try out new things by not only holding a guitar and be a lead guitarist but also to sing and take my singing passion further by doing solo performances in many of the local events in Hounslow, Reading, Feltham and more. Everything I learned until now is due to the help from my mates in Hong Kong.

Saugat Malla Signs CHADKEY for 10 Lakhs?

Rumors abuzz is that the very happening actor Saugat Malla has been signed for a new film 'CHADKEY' for 10 Lakh rupees! If this is true, then that's certainly great news for Saugat who's still riding on a high from the success of LOOT. The movie has been successfully screened in Australia, Denmark, Finland and Hong Kong with more screenings to take place in the UK, USA and few countries to be finalised!

'CHADKEY' will be directed by Nigam Shrestha who was the assistant director of LOOT has Dayahang Rai and Namrata Shrestha in lead. LOOT will be celebrating it's day of success very soon and is believed to have crossed the 3 Crore mark! AHH-MAYYY-ZING!

Corrupt Minister Fined 84 Lakhs ; JAILED

Communications Minister Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for accumulating wealth beyond his income and abuse of power. Conviction of a politician in a corruption case is quite new to Nepal and Mr Gupta has paved way hopefully for many more ministers in the days to come. Nrs 22,000 is believed to be the amount which Gupta had in his savings before he started the post of press adviser to then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala back in 1992. His assets including properties, land rover jeep and a Sunny Nissan car is likely to be seized by the court as well as the freezing of his accounts.

84 Lakh rupees is approximately £67,500/$106,000!!! That's sooo much!!! It's good to see this happen but doesn't this just make you wonder how much other ministers who have higher positions than him have been ~~earning~~ stealing! Also, 18 months sounds a bit too relaxed for an amount so large, I doubt he will eve pay off the fine thanks to our country's lenient ways! Corrupt minister Gupta won't feel too alone at the Dilli Bazaar jail as he has few other minister friends who have ended up there just like him. Former minister Chiranjivi Wagle was sentenced to five years in prison on corruption charges on 15th March last year and more recently former minister Shyam Sundar Gupta was welcomed as an inmate on the 17th February for an abduction case of a businessman.

T-FEST GIG 1 - PHOTOS

Here are the photos from the first gig of T-FEST! The music and dance event kicked off at 5PM on the 13th February at the o2 in London! There were 13 contestants present singing two songs of their choice. Some sang their own whilst others went for popular tracks! Videos from each performers are being uploaded over on UNIQO TV youtube channel and also being shared on lexlimbu.com! The musical part of the event wrapped up ahead of time; good one organisers! This made way for the party to officially kick start at 10PM on the dot and go on till the wee hours of the morning being 6AM. It was indeed a great event with approx 450 attendees! Buddha Air Flying to Varanasi

Buddha Air is all set to start flying to the religious Indian city of Varanasi from the 1st of March 2012. The airline which had a set of international routes planned in the past had to delay it's operations after the ill-fated crash just outside of Kathmandu last year. Having just been on the buddhaair.com website I could see Varanasi as it's only international destination. I wonder what happened to Paro (Bhutan) and Lucknow!

The link up with Varanasi is expected to draw religious travelers; Tirtha Yatris who have a desire to visit the Kashi of Varanasi and Pashupatinath of Kathmandu. The air will operate four weekly flights.

Sounds good. Also, there's news coming that a new Nepali airline dubbed BB Airways is all set to start international operations from the 13th September 2012. It's apparently NRN-funded. Let's see whether it really takes off or not. One still wonders what happened to the much talked about ALPINE AIR #lol

Music to me, is everything. Without music, I feel so lonely and abandoned even when there are people around me. It's what inspired me to sing. I first picked up a microphone when I was in school to sing 'Everything I do' by Bryan Adams for a Talent Contest. I was so nervous then but when I finished singing, the positive response and appreciation I got from the audience made me proud and kept me going. From then onwards, I knew I had a deep desire to sing.

Eventually, I learned to play a guitar so that I could sing whenever I wanted to. Till today I remember that after school I used to go to the park with my friends carrying a guitar and playing tunes of Kandara, Nepathya, Madhyanna etc in Pokhara. Life got busier there and I didn't have much time for singing or playing tunes with my friends. Whenever I get chance to sing or perform, I just grab the opportunity and let myself go with the music. I have taken part in small singing contests but never been luck enough to win. I have not really had time to take part in a contest due to other commitments but now I would like to take T-FEST serious and sincerely hope to continue my desire to sing with the help of this event.

Nepal Telecom to Introduce Wi-Fi Hotspots

Our beloved Nepal Telecom is all set to give us the best customer experience by launching a WiMAX broadband project which aims to provide internet to every Tom, Dick and Harry in the country. Jokes apart, to be specific NT is aiming to reach all VDC's and 58 municipalities by 2012... so that's end of this year. If they had given themselves by the end of next year then maybe that would've been a more realistic deadline, after all it is 'Nepal Telecom'. Nonetheless, this means millions will soon have more ease of updating their facebook and checking out lexlimbu.com in public places including hospitals, ~~parks~~ streets and airports. The creation of these 'wi-fi hotspots' is an attempt to give better high-speed internet which will hopefully be provided in 1,500 different spots in the growing cities of Nepal. The costs is still yet to be worked out but I'm sure people will be wild for the internet regardless of it.

Internet penetration is rapidly rising in Nepal thanks to the broadband technology and companies such as NCELL taking their wireless services rural. It's quite a feat even though dial-up users are falling by the day. Though that's nothing to be worried about, they're just getting an upgrade to broadband. Moving up in life aye ;)

We have books, notebooks, computers, Internet, newspapers, TV and many more to gather information in this fast pacing world. Nothing seems to be enough. There are numerous news channels, newspapers and websites providing different knowledge and broadening our horizons. But have we ever thought of people living in rural parts of Nepal, especially the children who get to go schools but get minimal infrastructures and education materials.

Nepal is a developing country and there is still much development required in the field of education especially in the rural parts, which comprises more than 70% of the country. The development is slow and needs much of our support. If we don’t do it, who will?????? Its our motherland after all.

Many of us get books, read and put them away when we are finished. We have daily newspapers at our doorsteps and are thrown to trash within few days, but life is much more complicated in the rural parts of the country. Many don’t get to go schools, as they are busy helping their family with their household works. Those fortunate ones who get to go to school don’t even get to read their course books due to lack of resources and lack of materials available to them. In comparison with the students of private schools they can hardly meet the same standard. Such is the gap in the education system. This is where “Moti community library” of Parbat plays major role towards school and library project through its charity and community activities. They have already established 140 libraries in public schools of that district and still moving ahead to create 197 more, of which the targeted number this year is 29. To name few schools looking for support are:

Deurali Primary School, Shikarkot Taklak

Mahendra primary school, Shikarkot, Tilahar

Matribhumi primary school, Ranipani

With the view of providing continuity to this program I, Reecha Dhital along with United Nepalese Arts & Entertainment (UNAE) have initiated arts exhibition here in Sydney, Australia on Saturday, 24^th March 2012. The art exhibition offers paintings from Australia based talented Nepalese artists promoting Nepal and its culture through arts and supporting the Community Library in Parbat. The event promotes Nepalese culture in foreign land, encourages hidden talents and also creates fund for charity. The program is charity based and will involve 5 artists with their versatile paintings. Your presence will help us support the noble cause.

Things certainly look a tad bit confusing for actress Manisha Koirala as she was recently tweeting about her hope to meet her soul mate. Now we're not sure if this is referring to her husband Samrat Dahal or someone else!

It's been reported widely in the media that Manisha was seen actively sharing not so positive statuses about her marriage and life on Facebook which led to the actress deactivating her account. Manisha who's currently embarked on a trip to India in hope to clear her mind, settle her heart and evaluate her life can now be followed closely in the micro-blogging site! Much of everything is reported by the media so her life could very well be far from the picture painted but when the beautiful lady herself is seen tweeting such things publicly it does paint a grim picture.

I cannot imagine what being a celeb is like but I guess everyone deals with things differently! With some in Hollywood having public breakdowns, I wish Manisha all the best, we all do. Though networking is good, sometimes social networking does add fuel to the fire, as in this case.
