In a recent interview in the New York Times Azealia Banks came out as a bisexual, saying “I’m not trying to be, like, the bisexual, lesbian rapper. I don’t live on other people’s terms.”

She signed with Universal music just 2 weeks ago, but has already been photographed by the Dutch photo team Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for V magazine, by Matt Irwin for GQ and by Nicola Formichetti for Elle. And in early January, Terry Richardson shot her for a spring fashion spread in T: The New York Times Style Magazine.

She may be up and coming, but she’s making a big splash on her way in… She even got a follow on twitter from Kanye, which is a huge shocker because there are only 6 others that he finds interesting enough to follow! Check out her most viewed video with well over 3 million hits!

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about future plans; marriage, kids, weddings weddings weddings and all that stuff and it got me thinkin… Are we getting old?

If someone would have asked me at 15 where I would be 10 years later my answers would have been filled enough optimistic fluff to make you puke. Married, kids, career need I say more? But I’m 25 now…and all I can say is…

-_-

That didn’t happen. I’m 25 with a bachelors degree, working on my masters, in a serious relationship but… thats about it. I’m kidless, which I REALLY don’t mind, I’m not married, which is fine and my career well I think I’m doing pretty good on that…

But technically: I’m failing at life if you were to ask my 15 year old self.

Anyway, while talking to her we were discussing a life plan… Pay attention folks, its about to get a little mathematical.

If you want kids by the time you’re 30 you have some planning to do. Let’s say you want one child at 30 but you’d like to be married for two years before you reproduce, adopt, co-parent or whatever. That means you need to be married at 28. If your like most girls, you want to be engaged for a year to get plans in order and truly just enjoy hearing the word fiance.

If that’s the case you need to be engaged by the time you’re 27. In a nutshell that means that (depending on your birthday) you have essentially have 2 years to GET IT TOGETHER!!

After that realization all I can say is OUCH…Talk about a wake up call!

So, for me I may not be able to make my 15 year old self jump for joy, but perhaps I can just start thinking how to go from this:

TO THIS:

We all know the old saying, “Once a cheater, always a cheater” but in relationships there are two very different sides to the very same story. There is no scoreboard to keep track of brownie points, no referee to say what is fair or allowed, no neutral party to tell you right from wrong, nor is there a judge who can rule on what to do after the fact. If you cheat, and you regret it, is it worth it to ruin what I assume would be an already wounded relationship by telling on yourself? The guilt and stress are minor discomforts compared to the pain you could inflict on your “faithful” partner if only they knew what you were up to.

Picture it, an ice cold Winter of 2012, your relationship has entered it’s rocky yet manageable state, and you cheat. Not out of anger or because you are looking for something else but out of pure and utter selfish boredom. The decision still remains, to tell or not to tell… That is the question.

On one hand you can confess, and selfishly rid yourself of all the torturous shame, and paranoia you’ve been feeling. On the other hand you could take the secret to your grave, admitting to yourself that you were wrong and taking your punishment as dealing with the memory, shame, and guilt forever. After realizing that your mishap wasn’t worth the risk, would you still tell and risk ending the relationship? The hurt that one has to endure after being cheated on is excruciating, especially if she decides to forgive you and stay. Even then who’s to say the relationship will ever get back to normal or whether she will be able to recover from your dishonorable mistake.

As a woman who has done her fair share of cheating, as well as one who is no stranger to being cheated on, I can honestly say that hearing that my partner had drifted into someone else’s arms hurt like hell! While being the cheater, actually didn’t suck too bad! The worst part was holding in the secret and debating whether I should tell… or not. After I spilled my guts I felt a lot better, I questioned my decision for a long time because this feeling of relief was not what I deserved. My partner was mortified, horrified and wanted to break every bone in my body and here I was feeling…relieved.

After everything was said and done all I could think was “I shouldn’t have said anything… and if she never found out I wouldn’t have had to see her cry.” Is it selfish to confess something that will cause agony, misery, and quite possibly a broken-heart just for the sake of getting it off your chest? In terms of infidelity who has it harder, the cheater, or the cheated?

I guess what I’m saying is…when it comes to cheating… who is screwing who?

Over the weekend a few of my friends went through some drama which got me thinkin…

When you have a falling out with your girl, boo, fuck buddy, wifey, etc. What are you looking for to fix the problem?

A kiss, a hug, flowers, sex…all basically saying LOOK WOMAN…I’M SO DAMN SORRY! But when what’s done is done and already forgiven, what do you do to get out of the dog house?

The “grand gesture” (the urban definition) states that it’s A risk people take by putting themselves out there to show how you feel for your significant other, usually when doubt is cast against your feelings. The “grand gesture” usually entails giving up something big in exchange for the gratitude and love of your significant other.”

EX: I showed Amy how much I love her want to be with her with my grand gesture of quitting my job in LA to be with her in New York.

When I think of the grand gesture I think of doing something she wouldn’t expect. Whether it’s driving hours to surprise her on her doorstep with flowers, or simply dropping The L Word (the real one not the show), or just doing something that you normally wouldn’t just to put a smile on her face.

Everyone knows it’s not what you say, but how you say it and this is just a really huge way to say I LOVE YOU THIS MUCH. So even if your gesture doesn’t seem as grand as an engagement ring, vacation, or even a road trip, just remember the end goal is just to make her smile knowing that you love her that much…

Got experience giving or receiving…..a grand gesture? Lol Spill the beans below!

Not sure what to get your muffin, babe, squeeze, lover, wife, studsband, wifey, boo, or side chic for Valentine’s Day? No worries …I’ve got you covered

Spa Day
Every girl loves to be pampered! Surprise her with a day of beauty… Hair, nails, facial, massage, (even a wax)… Trust me, a trip to Brazil can work wonders and have your woman feeling like a billion bucks!

Flowers
Every girl loves a pretty flower, but maybe this year you can surprise her with something a little special. Try a bouquet of red roses with a single white rose in the middle. Let her know that she’s not just your lover, but also your best friend…

Shoes Shoes and Shoes!
You can’t go wrong with a new pair of heels, I don’t know any woman that would turn down a good shoe.

Ready…Set…Shoot!
Vday isn’t always about the cliche roses and dinner, try something exciting like an experiene rather than a gift!, A gun range may not be romantic, but it sure as hell is fun and sexy! Take your stud lover to the gun range and let her see you with a pistol of love. Bet it’ll make her blood boil in all the right ways!

Surprise Surprise
Vday is on a Tuesday this year, why not surprise your sweetheart at work with an edible arrangement! They are super yummy and everyone in the office will be constantly reminding her how lucky she is

Cook up something yummy!
*This is only for those of you who don’t cook on the regular…no cheating*
Make her something delicious, including dessert. Just nothing spicy, remember you have the rest of the night

Still unsure of what to get your honey for this <del datetime="2012-01-27T18:39:09+00:00">Hallmark</del> Holiday? ok I’ll list some extras below:

Adventures: Take her on a museum trip, ice skating, spa day, festival/fair, movie date, dancing, a cooking class, run her a bath, Buy her some jewelry, a watch, a card, a letter, chocolate covered strawberries, Broadway tickets or anything that will just simply make her smile…

Got ideas for Valentines Day? Spill the beans below and help us all out lol
Cheers!

My current obsessions are always different, from fashion to movies, books, traveling and everything in between but this week I have bucket loads to tell you about!

My most recent obsession is a little show I found last month called… BETWEEN WOMEN! Ha little show my ass, when I first came across this show I was amazed the characters are stellar, the writing is way more real than The Real L Word, and oh so Addictive! I introduced this show to a few of my friends and they’ve literally been glued to youtube ever since! They even did a parody of “Shit Lesbians Say” Check it out!
Shit Lesbians Say

From the Executive Producer and writer Michelle Daniel, of the critically acclaimed short film Broken Silence comes the original series, Between Women. Loved by fans for its raw writing style and vivid charcters, Between Women will send you on an emotion roller coaster that you won’t want to stop riding! Set in the bustling city of Atlanta, we join six friends, also known as the “6-pack”, through their daily lives filled with fun, drama, love, and the tests and trials of everyday living. Go there if you dare.

Miller, Beautiful, Sunny, Brooke, Winney, Mecca, Rae, Allison, Rhonda, & Natalie have it all! Sex appeal, swag, humor, and did I mention sexy! This cast is briinging it for the lesbian community and we are definitely appreciating this show. Finally, a show that is both relatable and believable. Ilene Chaiken better watch out cuz there’s a new lesbian in town (with some color) Can we all say AMEN!

Check out their most recent episode below, I promise you’ll be hooked from the theme song! (which by the way i caught myself singing the other day in the shower) These ladies are extremely talented and I’m sure this hit will be on television very soon so… Stay Tuned!

Between Women Episode 4

Check out their site www.betweenwomentv.com to see when new episodes air, Trust me, its more than worth it…

Now since I’ve left Philly, there’s one thing I just can’t get used to. NJ/NYC lesbian life is just….. -_- not as exciting as what I was used to in Philly. In one word … Stimulus.

Stimulus Productions hosts the largest, most diverse and most successful monthly women’s parties in the Northeast, attracting 800-1000 attendees monthly. Specializing in monthly and themed events for the LGBTQ community, Stimulus Productions enjoys a dedicated following of young, diverse and sophisticated women in the Philadelphia, Baltimore, DC, New York, Delaware, and New Jersey areas. Stimulus events have enjoyed unprecedented and sustained popularity among both LGBTQ young women of color and women seeking classier, more diverse nightlife than what has been previously offered in the Northeast.

Long story short…its the best damn lesbian party I’ve EVER been to. I hate to say it but even the Sweetheat ladies could learn a little something from the dynamic duo of Morgan and Amber.

Don’t believe me? Check out these pics!

So you think you’re a lesbian huh?

You have the feelings for girls that most have for boys, you unintentionally have fallen in and out of love with your best female friend and you’ve discovered the internet’s closeted fixation on lesbians from The L Word, and South of Nowhere, to Between Women and Th3M yep your hooked… but now what?

Coming out can be the scariest thing in the world. I remember being utterly terrified of anyone finding out. When I got my first girlfriend I even cut of the (a) at the end of her name and told everyone I had a boyfriend so I didn’t have to hide my happiness but just as any little secret that you keep in the dark, it came to light and I was forced to deal.

There were no more discussions about me falling in love with the “person instead of gender” I was a homo and even my last boyfriend had the revelation before me. It was hard though, trying to learn the lingo, meet new people, and don’t even get me started on dating…

But it did get better, I met a few people that I liked enough to want them to stick around. I developed my own little lezzy circle, found comfort in watching television shows that portrayed more people that were like me and I repeated to several if not all of my friends that THIS IS NOT A PHASE!

At the time I probably wished it would have been, and trust me if anyone had the choice, they wouldn’t choose discrimination, and hate over what society deems normal.

Truth of the matter was… I was the most normal person I knew, and I was happy because I was finally letting go, coming out, and coming into myself. So what advice would I give to someone who has just come out of the closet? Live your life the way you want! There are no rules to this lifestyle, and just because your a lesbian, it doesn’t mean that you have to automatically dress different and pick up different hobbies.

DONT CHANGE

DO DATE

What were your first experiences coming out? Spill the beans below!

So you’ve met someone that’s kinda sorta something kinda special to you in a kinda special kinda way…yeah you heard me. You know that confusing feeling when things went so incredible well but still … you have no clue when you’re going to see her again.

She leaves you with a kiss on the forehead after a night of passion and PURPOSELY leaves her toothbrush the next morning in an attempt to have you completely smittened until her return.

But if you’re not sure where this passion train is headed, do you pump the breaks or take the toothbrush as a warning sign that the uhaul wont be far behind?

When someone leaves the toothbrush I think that is “smooth code” for I’ll be back. Basically a way of saying when I come back, I want this to be right where I left it. Would I say its like a dog peeing on his territory…um lil bit lol but…without the mess. They are acknowledging that they should have the right to be there without there being a full blown commitment.

Some may think that the toothbrush means your now exclusive, but truth be told the only one that may think exclusivity was the hint is the person staring at the toothbrush in their bathroom.

So…Verdict! That toothbrush means nothing except, “Next time I come back, I don’t want to take a trip to the drug store.”

Keep the toothbrush, but don’t let her call all the shots! It was a great date with an even greater ending so until next time do you… and maybe next time let your toothbrush find a new bathroom

Have you left your toothbrush anywhere lately?…or do you have someone’s in your bathroom?… Feel free to spill the beans down below!

More than 70 American Mayors announced today a coalition to support marriage equality! Below is the statement that they all signed:

As mayors of great American cities, we proudly stand together in support of the freedom of same-sex couples to marry. We personally know many gay and lesbian people living in our cities who are in committed, loving relationships, who are active participants in the civic life of our communities, and who deserve to be able to marry the person with whom they share their life.

We are proud that at its 2009 annual meeting, the U.S. Conference of Mayors unanimously approved a resolution stating that: “The U.S. Conference of Mayors supports marriage equality for same-sex couples, and the recognition and extension of full equal rights to such unions, including family and medical leave, tax equity, and insurance and retirement benefits, and opposes the enshrinement of discrimination in the federal or state constitutions.”

Our cities derive great strength from their diversity, and gay and lesbian families are a crucial part. Studies have shown what we know through our hands-on experience—that cities that celebrate and cultivate diversity are the places where creativity and ideas thrive. They are the places where today’s entrepreneurs are most likely to choose to build the businesses of tomorrow. Allowing same-sex couples the right to marry enhances our ability to build this kind of environment, which is good for all of us.

We stand for the freedom to marry because it enhances the economic competitiveness of our communities, improves the lives of families that call our cities home, and is simply the right thing to do. We look forward to working to build an America where all people can share in the love and commitment of marriage with the person with whom they share their life.

I am so happy that among the mayors that signed this statement are Cory Booker, mayor of my hometown Newark, NJ, and Michael Nutter, my soon to be mayor of Philadelphia. Check out the list below and if your mayor hasn’t signed it send them the statement!

Ok, Time for an update…

I’ve been obsessing about so many things lately so I’ve compiled a short list so you all can obsess too…

1. Rihanna Tickets

I have been shamelessly trying to win tickets to this huge Rihanna concert in London. I do love Rihanna but combined with the chance to go to London, I just can’t let this lottery opportunity slip by. Now a few of you may remember when I was obsessing over BS tickets (brittney spears…hmm never realized her initials were BS…thats kinda funny…but i digress) This is different. Check out the ad!

Listen For 11 Weekday Chances to Win $1,000

Plus: Qualify to Live Like Rihanna in London For a Weekend With Three

So seriously, I’ve been calling a billion times a day…hopefully the concert fairies are looking down on me cuz this gal wants to go to London and party like Ri Ri!

2. CHESCALEIGH!!!

I’m sure you all have heard the hype with her video Sh*t Black Girls Say, but this talented chic has been hilarious forever!!! …and yes I just found her. I literally saw the video and thought she had to do something else and there I sat for 4 hours watching her youtube videos and she is sooo funny! Among my top favs are Queen For A Day, My 25 Things, Thanksgiving, and don’t even get me started on her Christmas Cards…

Even the video she did about turning 25 and revealing her engagement story were classic! I secretly wish I was the first one to see her videos so I can say I found her first but she’s so entertaining I dont mind saying IM ON THE BANDWAGON! She belongs on SNL.

Check out a few of her videos below I laughed so hard I almost pee’d my pants!

3. Natural Hair..
I hate to say it but I’m on youtube all the time looking at videos how to’s and disaster twistouts! After transitioning for almost 2 years and now being 100% natural Im in love! I try new styles…and waaaay too many new products. Don’t judge me…its my obsession!

4. All the new shows that are on are driving me crazy! Even my DV-R can’t keep up lol here’s a list of some of my new fav shows in no particular order

The New Girl
Whitney
The Game
Mob Wives
American Idol
Allen Gregory
Real Housewives of Everywhere lol
&
any old movie on OWN…

…

and there you have it. That’s what I’ve been obsessing over. What are your recent obsessions? As always you can spill the beans down below.

I hate when my phone rings and its actually someone I know *oops*. Harsh I know like why do I even have a phone? Umm for my text messaging, tweeting and never ending connection to my gmail account. Anyway, If someone is calling, That means they want me to answer and actually talk on the phone! I know its wrong but I do not answer my phone unless it’s a complete emergency. I seriously hate voicemails too!

So to get in touch with me I suggest a text or email to all my friends and family, how it ends up slipping their mind is beyond me.

Horrible!

I live in a land where actual social interaction is somewhat obsolete, well for me anyway. It has even gotten to the point where I forget how to socialize. Yep! I knew texting and email had to backfire someday!!! I just feel like texting and emailing is so much easier. Straight to the point so there is no awkward silence or pauses. No waiting on hold while they figure out what to tell you next. In a text it’s short and simple yes or no questions, statements and comments.

I guess that takes the mystery out of a conversation but sheesh who has time to be on the phone for hours anymore especially when I can text and do other things while waiting for you to tell me that “oh so great story that you cant remember but its so totally hilarious that you must tell me” yea, that one! Umm I can do without it but if u must… just shoot me an email.

But this leads me to believe that I may be hooked on technology. DUN DUN DUN could it be? Of course! I was hooked on Facebook back when it was just for college students, Back when the joke was “Facebook was single-handedly bringing down your GPA” bet its not a joke anymore since now every job that you get has Facebook and Twitter and every other social network blocked! You can also get a ticket for texting while driving and we even have to interview these days via email! Will face-to-face conversations be obsolete in the future? And if so how are lesbians going to uhaul successfully without face to face flirting? Ugh!

The world will never know…

Do you ignore your calls too? Spill the beans below
