Cold and Windy.

A winter fly at Bo Peep with Den, Tone and a Saxo-powered H. The lift was excellent and smooth, 25-30mph tough a little lumpy at times. Tone brought his GoPro Hero HD camera which was attached to the wingtips of the Alpina and ASH26 with some spectacular results which we'll post onto You Tube later. It was the first full LGRA gathering of 2011, let's hope we get plenty of flying in this year.

As Tone goes 5m + with his beast of an Alpina, I decide to go the other way with Multiplex's diminutive rocketship the Merlin. An easy build it promises to be an excellent flyer. There are plenty of build threads on the Net so I shan't put one here, just some pics.

Tone makes a start to the 2.5m electric Alpina. A new folding prop from Slough Models and old gear from a previous plane. Note the immaculately tidy hangar, Tone hates mess.

Tone took delivery of possibly the largest box the LGRA club has seen. Inside was a 5m version of his 4m Multiplex Alpina. Nuzzling up to this beast was a 2.5m electric-fuz'd Alpina which shall accommodate the motor and 4 cell LiPo from a previous, now re-kitted, plane. Tone is with Den in the hangar today giving these parts the full RAL. watch this space for pics and possibly a build diary. H

LGRA's first fly of 2010

Low wind, cold and a hill full of paragliders greeted us at Beachy Head on Tuesday. Little lift meant the paragliders had to scratch about at low level, stopping us from getting any of our kit airborne. The weather gods, however, were on our side and presented the slope with a stiffening breeze too strong for the soft foils. We were then blessed with a fantastic smooth wind and a big open sky,

Finally...

Well, Tone and I finally got to fly – a partial LGRA sortie. Light wind but smooth allowed for a relaxing pootle around the Long Man Bowl. Tone flew the Trinity, I flew the AH26. Both took the air well and didn't struggle with the low lift. Sun to begin with, cloud then rain by 15.00h. Enough flying though, especially after five weeks of UK-style wetness. H gets stick time

With my elbow on the mend I got in some well-needed stick time on the Highlander, Cularis and Twinstar. Lifty air, low wind and full cloud meant easy flying without the sun in yr eyes. Hoping to fly a slope next week.See a compilation vid here.

The cast is off and I'm getting the arm moving again. This means I can operate my Tx and type. Went for a short buzz around Norman Park yesterday and all seemed well, full thumb and finger movement, I even had the Cularis tooling about the Bromley skies. H breaks his elbow

Activity in the air and on the site has slowed as H recovers from a broken elbowafter falling off his bike. A combination of pikey garden fence, chav vandalism and an unlit path led to a nasty fall. See here for details.
