Just wanted to mention that four Danceline members are in this year's concert band and will be performing in the Band Festival on Thursday. They are Chelsea White, Clarinet; Kaitlyn Noe, French Horn; Tiara Freeman, Alto Saxophone; and and Sarah Strader, French Horn.

Announcing 2009 Danceline Clinics and Auditions

When are the 2009 Danceline clinics and auditions?

Danceline "Clinics" have been scheduled for Tuesday May 26th, and Wednesday May 27th. Auditions are on Saturday morning, May 30th.

What requirements must be met in order to audition for the Danceline?

In order to audition for the Danceline, prospective members must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 and must attend all three pre-audition clinics. Additionally, students who make the squad must enroll in the marching band class.

Are there any particular forms that I will need in order to participate?

Yes. A copy of your report card indicating a 2.0 or higher GPA is required to participate in Danceline Clinics and Auditions. Students who are selected for Danceline will need to complete and turn in the Policies and Procedures Form, Medical Release Form and Consent to Travel Form.

Liberty High School had their 2nd Annual Powder Puff Football Game last Saturday, November 3rd at Hite Field in Clarksburg.

It was a tough contest, clear up to the final buzzer, but the Sophomores and Juniors came out the winners!

Danceline Members Selected to All-County Band

Congratulations to three of our Danceline members who were selected for the 2009 Harrison County All-County High School Band.

Under the direction of Christopher Nichter, the Harrison County All-County High School Band will rehearse on Monday, March 9th at Liberty High School. The following evening, the band will perform for the public in a 7pm concert at Lincoln High School.

Liberty High School Dance Showcase - This Saturday, January 24th at 7:00pm

The Liberty High School Dance Showcase is scheduled for this Saturday, January 24th at 7:00pm.

Participants in this year's show include Bridgeport Middle School, Mountaineer Middle School, WI Middle School, Bridgeport Middle School, Bridgeport High School, and West Virginia Wesleyan College. The show promises to be entertaining, so come on out and support Liberty's Danceline.

The doors open at 6:00pm and tickets are $5.00 - hope to see you all there!

Fine Arts Majors at Duke University - Department of Dance

The Duke University Dance Program offers its students the opportunity to study in an environment that challenges the student's intellectual, expressive, and physical capabilities. Dance classes are open to all Duke undergraduate students and the Dance Program provides beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of classes in order to meet the varied needs of undergraduate students.

For those interested in seeking formal recognition for their involvement in the Dance Program, we offer a Major and a Minor in Dance..., and students may also pursue a major through the University's Program II.

LHS Danceline to Perform at Salem International University Basketball Game

2009 Dancer Auditions:

Audition Date: April 18, 2009
Audition Facility: Marshall University Henderson Center Main Arena
9:00 a.m.- Registration

What to Bring:

• A recent head shot photo (will be placed with your application that will be filled out when you arrive to audition)
• $10.00 registration/audition fee (no checks, cash only please)
• A blue or black pen
• Bottled water or cooler
• A towel
• Any type of dance shoe—no bare feet or lyrical sandals.
• A great attitude! Be prepared to have fun.

Requirements:

• All auditioning dancers must display incredible stage presence.
• Must maintain a G.P.A. of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Must have skills in pom, jazz, hip hop (and funk), ballet, and proper technical skills (i.e. turns, leaps, etc.)
• Solid double pirouettes are mandatory but triple pirouettes are preferred.
• Formal training in ballet and jazz will be recognized but not mandatory.
• Side leaps, barrel leaps, and switch leaps.
• Flexibility—high kicks, left and/or right splits.
• Experience with a marching band—not mandatory (basic marching skills, and field comprehension).
• All ladies should be able to execute a fouettes a la second and en pase.
• Have an understanding of correct body alignment and modern movement regarding musical interpretation.
• Excellent showmanship skills and teamwork are crucial.
• Motivation!

The Radio City Rockettes at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Rockettes are the best known precision dance company in the world, stationed out of the Radio City Music Hall. The Rockettes performed 4 shows a day, 28 shows a week, 365 days a year for more than 50 years.

The Radio City Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall, and numerous other American cities, is the most watched live show in the USA, with more than 2.1 million people annually.

The Rockettes performed annually at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (since 1957), The Columbus Day Parade, and America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit. The NBC Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony also traditionally includes a performance by the dance troop.

The Rockettes have also kicked off the announcements for new product lines launched by such diverse companies as McDonalds, Coca-Cola, Oldsmobile, L'eggs Hosiery, Mannington Floors and Honda's 50th Anniversary show.

Their famous kick line started with 16 women and now has 36. They are all between 5′6″ and 5′10 1/2″ and are arranged tallest in the middle and shortest on the ends.

I never realized that the Rockettes have been dancing for so many years. this is a perfect gift for anyone interested in dancing, the Rockettes, Radio City Music Hall or the amazing costumes. I would have liked to see more of the older photos, but for the price, this is an amazing book.

Dance Competition - Only a week away, mark your calendars for the WVCAF North Central WV Dance Competion at RCB High School - Saturday, November 22nd begining at 2:00PM. The Liberty Danceline will perform exhibition in three categories:

Hip Hop - Hip Hop is a trendy style of current dance that emphasizes style, attitude, rhythmic movement, athleticism, strength, body control and creative, non-traditional musical interpretation. Hip Hop dancing allows the rhythm of the music to be seen through the movement of the body. Hip Hop includes but is not limited to; Street Style, Funk, Popping, Locking, Isolations and Break Dancing.

Kick - A Kick routine consists of visually effective kick combinations, dance work and utilization of the floor. Emphasis is on the variety of kicks, kick combinations, and creative connections. Body alignment, flexibility, kick height, proper posture, proper kick technique, maintenance of the line connection, and team stamina are all important elements of a successful kick routine.

Pom - The Pom category emphasizes the use of poms for visual effects and creative color work. The poms are considered “props” and should be manipulated and highlighted as such. Open Pom is a blend of any style of dance and pom work.

The undisputed first place trophy and accompanying mountains of cash (well - fifty bucks) goes to Jacob Parker and Bridget Dombkoski.

The runners-up trophy goes to Megan Smith and Brett McNemar.
