Denny writes:

I heard Quinn this morning arguing that it was ok and fully excusable for Santorum to have supported the RINO Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey years ago when Toomey challenged Specter in the Republican Primary solely because their were Supreme Court Justices up for nomination and that the implication was that Toomey could not win. Why? Because he was a conservative? I could not believe that I was hearing that! It is so stupid! Santorum sold out the conservative principles we are told he supposedly holds dear to support a RINO! This is the sort of excuse making that causes me to wonder what he is thinking sometimes and I he really thinks through his comments!

- Deeply Frustrated!

Denny

Ok, for people outside of Pittsburgh, Quinn is a local conservative radio talk host who is syndicated nationally.

Let me say that I completely agree with Denny on how frustrating it is to hear excuses being made, not just for Santorum but all the current GOP candidates, for their non-conservative actions in the past. I don’t know why we just cannot call a spade a spade. Let’s say honestly what Santorum did in the Specter/Toomey primary. He towed the party line. He chose political expedience over principles which we are told he has. Although a review of his record calls those claims into serious question. Sure, he leans right but when he goes to the dance he often sometimes goes home with a liberal on his shoulder.

I don’t know why we have to tip toe around the truth that is as plain a s the ears on Obama’s face.

No one who seriously examines Rick Santorum’s record in Congress can say with a straight face that he is a “rock-ribbed”, “ultra” or “true” conservative. I know some people are trying, but those stubborn facts about his record cannot be wished away.

But you know what bothers me most about Rick Santorum? It is the sanctimonious attitude he takes towards anyone who has the audacity to bring up his real record on the issues. He is now running around poo-pooing criticism of his earmarking for unconstitutional purposes after the spotlight has been turned on him thanks to be recent sweep of Minnesota, Colorado an Missouri. The smugness with which he talks down to those who seek to reveal the true Santorum from behind the facade he has tried to create is just a turn off. Just like it was a turn off for me whenever Herman Cain would try to spin out of his support for TARP.

My advice to Mr. Santorum, which I guarantee he won’t take, would be to just fess up an admit that he violated the Constitution frequently while in Congress. At least I could respect him for that.

Santorum leans right. He may even be our best option available to us as conservatives. But is is not one of us. He’s about 70% one of us. No more.

While there are reports that Santorum may be surging in Michigan, I don’t have any polling data that shows that. However, Ohio is another story. The last poll taken had Romney at 25%, Newt at 26% and Santorum at 22% and was taken by PPP, admittedly Democratic hacks, two weeks ago.

Other than Georgia, which has 76 delegates available on March 6th, and which looks like Gingrich’s to lose being his home state and all, Ohio has a nice prize of a proportional share of 66 delegates available to the winner.

There is a little bit of fogginess over total delegates held by each candidate right now. When you count all delegates, binding and non-binding, Romney has 90, Santorum has 44 and Newt has 32. Despite Santorum’s win in Missouri the primaries are just a formality and the state’s 52 delegates will not be awarded until caucuses on March 17th, meaning he cannot benefit from them in this count. There will also no doubt be a flooding of the caucuses by Paulbots who will try to sneak away as many delegates for Ron Paul as possible.

Santorum really needs a win in a state like Ohio to keep any momentum he may have going.

The week after the US Government claimed the US economy added about 240,000 in January despite loosing over two million, it is once again telling us how great things are going by releasing information that first time claims for unemployment are down from week to week.

Meanwhile Pepsi is announcing that it is going to part ways with 3% of its labor force, 8,700 jobs, because of inflation in commodity prices and a need to increase its focus on advertising. Well … must just be a glitch in the Matrix right? Everything is going swimmingly isn’t it?

What has liberal Democrats so upset this time? Well, I will give you a hint. It has to do with illegal immigration. Come on, don’t pretend to be shocked.

GOP lawmakers are proposing thatillegal immigrants be prohibited from claiming the child tax credit on their tax returns. Most Americans would no doubt be shocked to learn that people who are in this country illegally, a criminal offense, are actually able to file taxes and get to take advantage of tax credits like this without being caught. Well, they are.

Harry Reid, the Senate Majority Leader, whined about the issue as Fox News Reports:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada says the proposal unfairly goes after the children of poor Hispanic workers.

No, it goes after illegal immigrants Mr. Reid. Period. These people are criminals and the Democrats are once again laying down covering fire for them because they don’t want to offend said criminals.

Why aren’t these people caught and deported when they file their tax returns? The IRS should adjust the approach it is using and be more effective in helping us weed out criminals which should be easy enough to catch in this technological day and age. Especially when they openly announce themselves. The only logical conclusion is that the IRS is willfully looking the other way on this issue.

As anyone can tell by the gradings I have been giving various candidates over the past six months or so, when it comes to the GOP candidates who remain in the race I am most comfortable with Rick Santorum. Please note that I did not say I was comfortable with him, only that I was the most comfortable with with when compared to the other candidates. The man is no “ultra conservative” as some people are trying to pump him up as being. The man has supported too many unconstitutional earmarks, price controls and wealth redistributionist schemes to be called such. Stack him next to his competition and he looks great. Judge him on his own merit and deeds and Santorum is just another pretender seeking to wear a crown that does not fit him.

If you chose to vote for him, understand that. If you don’t he will sorely disappoint you when you realize it later on.

Kathy Dahlkemper, a Democrat and thankfully former congresswoman from just up the road in Erie, says now, yes only now, she regrets her vote in favor of Obamacare while she was in Congress. Dahlkemper, who has always been fairly liberal, lost her seat because of outrage over her vote. Now that Obama has told the Catholic Church that they must provide contraceptive services, including the abortion inducing morning after pill, she says that had she even the slightest inclination that Obama and her fellow liberals would have pulled such a move that she would have never voted for the bill and helped pass it.

Kathy never was all that bright. Had she just done a little research into the bill and what liberals she pals around with were saying she would have clearly known all along that this was their intention of the legislation. This sort of thing is essentially a plank of the Democratic Party platform!

Thank God she no longer has any hands on the reigns of power. Now, about the rest of those dimbulb Democrats in Congress … November is coming.
