The question is what are you going to do about it? A very interesting article at Jewish Ideas Daily today about how to handle the inherent antisemitism among the literati class. It's well worth reading and not just for its lovely prose. But I think it asks some very interesting questions for the Jewish-educated young adults in our society. And of course, I did not agree with everything that the author wrote...if I did the Red Sea would part once again and Hashem would return to Har Habayit.

Some days, I can't help thinking back 25 years to my high-school French course, which is where I first encountered the concept of the juste milieu—the happy medium—and the difficulty of achieving it. Why is the happy medium so elusive? Why do I more often feel caught betwixt and between or, even among my fellow Jewish-American writers, alone?
When I read something about the new generation of Jewish immigrant writers from the former Soviet Union, I become acutely conscious of my privileges as a native-born American. But when I read interviews with certain American-born Jewish writers my age, I am keenly aware of my closeness to the immigrant experience—to my maternal grandmother, who escaped East European persecution, and my paternal grandparents, who escaped Nazi Germany. I remember that I am merely a second-generation college graduate and that my parents would likely not have been able to attend college were it not for what was then a largely free public university system. And when I hear other Jewish writers my age talk about how anti-Semitism is irrelevant to "our generation," I am astonished. When I moved from Brooklyn at the age of nine to a non-Jewish neighborhood in a New Jersey suburb, I discovered country clubs and social dancing lessons—and the fact that they excluded me as a Jew.

None of this is unusual. The women's movement suffers from the same anti-Semitism. And have no doubt that it is anti-Semitism. The fact that so many Jews have chosen self-hatred over their own right to exist is interesting but not unusual. Why have so many Jews continued to support the leftist progressive political agenda of denying only Israel the right to defend herself? That is the question you should be asking. The next question is, why do those literati Jews who support Israel (including the author of this article) need others' approval? Why don't they start their own organization, as Jews used to do in immigrant days? Why do these Jews need the approval of the "establishment" of writers? Writers are supposed to be the watchmen of society, and that includes exposing the racism and anti-Semitism in the literati circles themselves. As far as those two articles that made headlines this past year, that was their purpose--to garner discussion and bring readers to these failing magazines. I fail to see how they speak for anyone but themselves. Go to any college campus today and you will see active pro-Israel advocates who have had enough and are standing up for themselves. These young people are the future of the Jewish people, not those spineless useful idiots. Birthright is terrific, and I would lay odds that the vast majority of those that attend actually come back with a lifelong attachment to the Jewish people and Israel.

You may think that Beinart cares about Israel, but he doesn't. He is merely a pompous blowhard who decides, while viewing the world from a McMansion, how other Jews are allowed to defend themselves. Beinart is no different from the author's leftist friends who have abandoned Israel full-time. Goldberg, in his own way, cares about Israel, but his loyalty is first and foremost to the leftist agenda. While he is not as bad as Beinart, the fact that he doesn't see a nuclear armed Iran as a threat to Israel's existence says more about his myopic view of reality than anything else. For him and his posse it's all Obama and Obama's view of the world. There comes a time in life when you need to chose a side. Now is the time. Choose, then do something about it.

So tell me where are all the protests against the Arab states for how they treat the Palestinians? Where is the "Arab State" Apartheid Week on college campuses? Oh yeah, that doesn't matter...the only thing pro-Palestinian activists can do is protest Israel and her security needs. Apparently they don't seem to have time to deal with the real trauma that the Palestinian people deal with on a daily basis in the Arab world. So tell me again how being anti-Israel isn't based on Jew-hatred. Be careful how you answer...remember Adolf Eichmann didn't consider himself an anti-Semite either.

Signing Statements and the US Constitution

It's really nice to know that somewhere someone actually sees what you see when it comes to violations of the US Constitution. Signing Statements are a violation of the US Constitutions. The President has two choices if he doesn't like legislation: veto it or sign it anyway and then let the chips fall where they may. There is no line-item veto in our Constitution and that in effect a signing statement usurps the power of the Congress. Here is the recent letter by the President of the American Bar Association to the White House about signing statements:

Dear Mr. President:

During your predecessor’s administration, the American Bar Association adopted a policy opposing,
“as contrary to the rule of law and our constitutional system of separation of powers,” any President’s
use of signing statements issued with the stated intention “to disregard or decline to enforce all or
part of a law the President has signed.” Although during your 2008 Presidential campaign you said
you would not use signing statements “as a way to do an end run around Congress,” your statement
accompanying your signing last week of the Consolidated Appropriations Act for 2012 is reported to
be the nearly 20th such signing statement you have made since taking office.

While we acknowledge that the use of Presidential signing statements dates back to the early 19th
century, we must again voice the ABA’s policy opposing this practice. Where a signing statement is
used to nullify a provision of law, the President is effectively usurping the power of the legislative
branch by denying Congress the opportunity to override a veto of that law and may be abrogating the
power of the judicial branch to make a determination of constitutionality.

Clearly, the original intent of the Framers of the Constitution was to give the President the choice of
signing or vetoing a bill presented by the Congress – in its entirety. The Constitution does not
contemplate or accommodate a line-item veto, yet that is precisely the effect of a signing statement
announcing the President’s intent to disregard, for any reason (constitutional or policy), a provision
of the legislation that he is signing into law.

We recognize that Congress may insert what the President considers objectionable language into
omnibus, must-pass legislation, where a veto could disrupt the operation of government. However,
the ABA’s commitment to the constitutional principles of “separation of powers” and “checks and
balances” leads us to reassert respectfully that a veto, and not a signing statement, is the
constitutionally appropriate avenue for any and every President to respond to an

So why is the legal opinion of the ABA so important at this point? Apart from the fact that it is the only national representation of American lawyers, it has been castigated as a leftist/progressive shill organization and a cynic could assume that the ABA would just rubberstamp anything a leftist/progressive President would promote. Many even claim that the ABA gives high ratings to potential judges, who have no business sitting on the bench, merely because these individuals support the democratic party platform and liberal view of the Constitution.

Perhaps some of the ABA's detractors should reconsider. It seems to me that as John Adams once said..."I am for the law" is still the watch word of the national bar. If one of the largest organizations of attorneys nation-wide tells the President of the Untied States you are in violation of the US Constitution, someone in the White House really should pay attention, no matter what the liberal think-tank-yes-persons have to say. Or maybe the White House should just watch this....

I suppose the same could be said for recess appointments when the Congress is not in recess too...the word unconstitutional comes to mind. Someone needs to remind the Obama administration that Alexander Hamilton's version of an imperial presidency was resoundingly rejected by the adoption of a small document called the US Constitution. In fact I recommend they read those pesky writings called The Federalist Papers if they truly need to understand what the authors of the Constitution were thinking and why. Just a little snarky suggestion.....

Google Earth and Israel's Security Needs

There are those in the world who think Israel should negotiate with Hamas. Hamas calls for genocide against Israel and the Jewish people. No they have not "moderated" as some in the EU and the US State Department would have you believe. (So much easier for the World to blame intransigence on those stiff-necked Jews who simply refuse to die like their ancestors.) Hanniyeh affirmed their genocidal goal just yesterday in a meeting with Turkey's leadership. The PA which is now part of a Hamas/Fatah government says it agrees with Hamas' philosophy.

Question: Why is it that in all of the world only Jews have to defend their right to exist? Which other country would be told to negotiate with those who wish to exterminate them? Which other country would be told that its OK for their enemies to have a negotiating starting point of genocide?

The Big Tent Mythos

The following is merely commentary....

When I was a child one of the most important lessons I learned is that you are who your friends are...in other words, if you lay down with dogs you will end up with fleas. This then begs the questions about our political parties. Just why is anyone who calls themselves democrat or republican allowed in the "Big Tent?" Are there no standards left anymore? Are haters simply allowed because they have a D or an R next to their name? Only in the last congressional election here in NY, did the republican party actually denounce their own candidate for antisemitism. There were no excuses. There was no beating-around-the-bush. There was open and unequivocal condemnation. So where in the world is everyone else in both mainstream parties?

Parties, like people, have to stand for something. There, of course, are the platforms that the party elders create at their conventions, but that is not the entire story of what a political party stands for. A party or clique is defined by who their members happen to be. You do not have to allow everyone to join and can openly reject those that do speak with hate, evil and ignorance.

I for one do not associate myself with the democrats because decades ago they abandoned their true purpose and allowed in every form of wacked off antisemite (and anti-American) that was around, and yes that includes a former President of the United States. In fact these people were even given prime time speaking spots at party conventions and appear to be the go to people for much of the media. It has become so de riguer in progressive democratic circles to be antisemitic (and even anti-American), that a pro-Israel prominent democrat was even fired from a progressive think tank. Yet those who espoused age-old antisemitic stereotypes, still are employed and are defended by these "progressive" organizations.

The question remains, why do so many still associate themselves with the democratic party...for what ends and for what purpose. My question is why is there no war in the democratic party for the soul of the democratic party? Instead the antisemities are given preeminence and everyone tries to out Jew-hate each other. Even pro-Israel members of the democratic party seem to need to qualify their support less anyone think they aren't progressive enough to be seen as a member of the democratic tribe. Or perhaps the war for the soul of the democratic party has already been lost, and those with some form of conscience are already leaving...hence the exit of prominent blue-dog democrats from the political scene.

Oh the democrats that stay can still fool themselves that they are not supporting haters. But in reality when you have to twist yourself into knots in order to be heard then your cause is lost. When you make excuses for your candidate's life long association with haters, whether it is a pastor, a professor, a neighbor or advisors, then you have allowed the camel's nose of hate into the tent.

Then there are the republicans.Yes, I tend to vote republican, but mostly because I support a strong foreign policy. No, I do not like most of their social policy. But if given a choice between thinking that we should be free and not kowtow to evil dictators and oligarchs, that we do not offer an outstretched hand to modern-day-evil, then a republican I shall vote for. However, something is happening in the republican party that mirrors the democrats...the acceptance of a virulent anti-Semite, anti-American racist in their midsts. (Funny how the left and right seem to coalesce around Jew-hatred...just some interesting food for thought.)

What do we look for then? What issues should we look at? If you are in debt to tyrants then you are a subjugated people. If you have no ability to produce and are hamstringed by government regulation then you have an ineffectual economy. If you do not have freedom of speech, thought and movement then you have no say in your welfare (SOPA, NDAA, Obamacare, acquiescence to the tyrant/dictator run UN). Under these circumstances then quite frankly all the social issues that matter, will come to naught. Protect your future and then you will have the leeway to fight the good fight for the social causes that matter. Sadly there doesn't seem to be anyone offering a real vision of the future...respect for the individual and a strong, proud foreign policy. In all honesty, we are waiting on a modern day TR, but he or she does not exist; not one of these candidates, republican or democrat fits that bill.

The question then becomes does noone in the political arena have a backbone? Does noone condemn the outrageous and evil diatribes that are thrown about by ignorant and ill conceived individuals? Only one republican candidate actually said he would not vote republican if the party backed the man from Texas...and for that he was savaged by his opponents. The irony here is that the republican candidates who say they will vote for any republican, even an anti-Semite, lies then about their support for Israel and their belief in the US Constitution. When you abide by conspiracy theories about your own government, when you take away the right of the nation to defend itself, when you posit racist and hateful messages, you do NOT support the US Constitution nor the American way of life. In my world, there is no such thing as a "Big Tent." In my world, you are either a good person or you are not. To placate evil of any kind in order to win votes makes you a hater as well. It makes you an embarrassment. It makes you a spineless, useless individual who has no right to be President of the United States. It makes you un-American.

If you do not have the cajones to stand up to members of your own party who espouse evil and ignorance, how are you as President going to stand up to the challenges and the threats posed at this nation world wide? The truth is, you will not be able to and you do not deserve the chance.

The American people stand their ground for their beliefs in right and wrong. You cannot appease hate, no matter the side of the aisle. For those who are so afraid to stand their ground, for those that are so afraid to have true American values, the values our forebearers fought and died for, and stand on the side of good, I have a question that needs to be asked of all the Presidential candidates in the upcoming election....how much did you sell your soul for inorder to become President of the United States? But on that night in October, several hundred Jews foreswore synagogue and headed to an obscure park in the Wall Street district where a protest claiming to represent the exploited 99 percent of society against the exploitative 1 percent was in its third week. A protest that, along with its sister protests across the nation, would become marred with incidents of murder and suicide, sexual assault and rape, violence, drug use, theft, bullying, public defecation, indecent exposure, defacement of American flags, littering, and disease—even tuberculosis.

A Kol Nidre service was being held there.

By that point in the brief lifespan of the Occupy Wall Street protest, disturbing comments and placards directed against Jews and Israel had been on display on a daily basis and had, understandably, become a matter of interest to Jewish commentators and a cause of concern for Jewish communities and others in the city and across the nation.

Arab League observers arrived in the country on Dec. 26, and traveled to the city of Homs -- the epicenter of the revolt, where the daily death toll regularly runs into the dozens, according to activist groups -- on Dec. 27. Thousands of people took to the streets to protest against Assad upon the observers' arrival, while activists said Syrian tanks withdrew from the streets only hours before the Arab League team entered the city.
"I am going to Homs," insisted Sudanese Gen. Mohammad Ahmed Mustafa al-Dabi, the head of the Arab League observer mission, telling reporters that so far the Assad regime had been "very cooperative."
But Dabi may be the unlikeliest leader of a humanitarian mission the world has ever seen. He is a staunch loyalist of Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for genocide and crimes against humanity for his government's policies in Darfur. And Dabi's own record in the restive Sudanese region, where he stands accused of presiding over the creation of the feared Arab militias known as the "janjaweed," is enough to make any human rights activist blanch.

Signs From the Syrian Resistance

Yesterday over 150 people were slaughtered by the Assad regime in Syria. It has also been reported that 10,000 have defected from the Army. So what did the world do in response? Of course, the UN took this opportunity to condemn Israel's building on disputed territory. Not one word from them about the wholesale slaughter going on in the name of Arab-Iranian totalitarianism. Not one word from the Obama administration either.

It really is too bad that the people of Syria have decided to throw a wrench into Obama's plans for the Middle East peace process. Trying to enlist dictators and evil men in a process that requires forthrightness is a risky endeavor to begin with. But to be so ignorant as to stay too long at the Assad-ball, as Obama has done, when even his own people have finally had the courage to say enough, shows an inordinate dangerous narcissism, reminiscent of the White Man's Burden found in the Sykes-Picot treaty.

It is bad enough that Obama is an embarrassment of epic proportions when it comes to attacking freedom here in the United States. At least we have mechanisms with which to protect ourselves and fight Obama's disregard and disrespect for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. It is another when he gives short-shrift to the causes of freedom around the globe and leaves our future allies and friends open to slaughter at the hands of evil simply to promote his ill-conceived foreign policy.

We need to remember Obama's ineptitude and his disregard for human rights next November 2012. Or this scene, where the freedoms so inherent in our American history are destroyed, will become the global mainstay. Not only will the United States be the lesser for it on a security level and an economic level, but by cajoling these genocidal regimes, the spiritual center of the USA will be destroyed, for this nation will then be complicit in the prolongation of evil worldwide.

The Fight Against State Sponsored Anti-Semitism

From Hudson New York, an article by Christine Williams, that outlines the dramatic need to combat anti-semitism and outlines how a nation can go about it. Of course, the nation combating anti-semitism is Canada under Stephen Harper, not Barack Obama's United States.

A year ago Parliamentarians and Experts From 50 countries, and six continents assembled together for a conference on Combating Antisemitism in Ottawa, Canada, where the Ottawa Protocol was released. In it was the groundbreaking alarm against state-sanctioned anti-Semitism and the resurgence of anti-Jewish libels, including Holocaust denial. The conference was hosted by the Inter-Parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism (ICCA) and was the largest of its kind. Delegates explored data to learn about and discuss strategies to combat Antisemitism globally. Less than three months ago, these efforts culminated in the historic step of signing "The Ottawa Protocol to Combat Anti-Semitism," described in the Huffington Post article: Canada Gets Tough on anti-Semitism. Canada's Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, affirmed that "those who would hate and destroy the Jewish people would ultimately hate and destroy the rest of us as well."
It is clear that in Canda the delegitimization of Israel must be delegitimized through a devised state formula that could match the drives to isolate Israel. A working formula was officially introduced to the Government of Canada, culminating in the signing of the historic Ottawa Protocol at the end of September. Preceding it was a report by a coalition of current and former parliamentarians which concluded that incidents of anti-Semitism are on the rise in Canada, especially on University Campuses. The coalition called upon the Government of Canada to combat this wave, which it had been investigating since November of 2009, and had then hosted an international conference on anti-Semitism in Ottawa a year later. The coalition concluded with key recommendations: i) that police forces across Canada be better trained to deal with anti-Semitism ii) that universities host conferences to counter events such as "Israeli Apartheid Week" and iii) that there should be a clear definition of what anti-Semitism entails.

Why I am No Longer a Reform Jew: Reprise

Apparently the Union of Reform Judaism held a convention, or rather a pro-Obama political rally last week. Here and Here and Here are reviews of what the President said about his pro-Israel credentials. (How anyone can actually listen to this man and not keep from laughing when he calls himself the most pro-Israel president in history is beyond me. Yet the URJ bought into his nonsense without question.) Here is the President of the URJ, Rabbi Jacobs', formerly of the JStreet rabbinical counsel, reaction to the Obama speech. The following are reposts of why I left the Reform movement. It was not an easy decision for my family, but a necessary one. No, we have not become more religious, we just have an abiding loyalty to telling the truth about liberal/progressive politics, Israel and the direction of the modern Jewish-American world. Something the URJ and its leadership seems incapable of doing.

After you read these posts, I want you to know once the resignation letter was sent I literally sat down and cried. The rabbi in question was the only one in my area that warmly welcomed us into his fold. You see, both of my boys have an autism spectrum disorder, noone else would bar mitzvah them. But as they grew it became apparent that there was no way I could send the boys to this man for guidance. In fact, as the political situation in the country became more and more divided , we felt less and less welcome at this Temple. It was after the Rabbi's letter about Hamas's good works in Gaza and the junior rabbi's lauding of Saul Alinsky that I knew it was time for us to leave. It was not an easy decision. Honestly, this man, who on so many levels is an extremely good person, seems to miss something incredibly substantial when it comes to the survival of the Jewish people and Israel. In truth, he broke my heart.

If you ever thought that Reform Judaism was no more than a shill for leftist politics and self-important entitled Jewish Americans read the latest screed to come out their convention. You were right. Glad I woke up and decided you are who your friends are. I definitely don't want to be associated with the Reform movement anymore. Besides the fact that they simplify Judaism to make it convenient for the masses; wouldn't want the congregants to need to make being Jewish a commitment to something outside of themselves, the reform movement now quite clearly says if you don't agree with our politics you are not welcome. In other words, if you are too stupid to think like us you are not welcome. We will disregard your politics, your perspectives and your thought process. If not why did they elect such a political individual to run the movement? Not every rabbi is involved in politics. Not every rabbi makes their private views known. Not every rabbi goes beyond their mandate of religious education. It truly is insulting and smacks of hubris.

No I am not religious, but at least I am honest about it. I don't pretend to be something I am not. I know who I am and where I come from. I know religion, history, politics and reality. I also don't need a rabbi to tell me how to think, act and believe. I unlike them do not need to believe that God is on my side when it comes to politics or my understanding of right and wrong. I am adult enough to think for myself and take responsibility for my actions. (By the way, this goes for any in the orthodox Jewish community as well, who need God to supplement their political beliefs.)

Case in point, the reform rabbis who insinuated themselves into the political machinations in Wisconsin by saying that to be Jewish you need to be pro-union. Personally I have never seen the word union in the Torah, Talmud or the Mishnah. Who asked them? While as Jews, we are taught conscientiousness and societal obligations, I have yet to see where the Torah tells us that I have to pay for the retirement and healthcare of someone else to the detriment of my own children and the ability to create a financially secure future for myself, my children and my country. How dare they take my thousands of years of beautiful religious thought and beliefs and use it so cavalierly to underscore THEIR politics. Who the hell do they think they are?

The problem with Reform Judaism is that they forget the fact that Judaism is about Am Yisroel (the Jewish people), Tanach Yisroel (religion). Eretz Yisroel (the land of Israel). They forget that being Jewish is not a popularity contest. They worry too much about the evil forces in the world and how to please them. Almost 70 years after the Holocaust the Reform movement forgets that when people call for genocide against you, they mean it and you didn't cause their hatred. The hatred of Jews is the haters illness and their nadir to carry. Only the Reform Jews would blame themselves, or rather "the other kinds of Jews" for causing them to be uncomfortable about being Jewish, instead of the Jew-haters. Only the reform movement would blame Jew-hatred on "the other Jews" in Israel for wanting to survive and for demanding the right to defend their children. Only the reform movement would allow the enemies of the Jewish people to write the narrative by which they live. If not why did they elect JStreet to decide their children's future?

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Here is my response:

1. Hateful I think not. Just because you don't agree with what I said does not mean it is hateful. The truth no matter how hard to hear is not hateful, it is merely the truth. Personally I think your accusation of hatefulness on my part is just another instance of "political correctness" where if you don't agree with the leftist/liberal notion of reality or say something in the "proper" way, you are labeled a hater, racist, or islamaphobe. Is it a diatribe? Since it is my blog I can say what I want too. If I want to go on a rant and let go on how I feel then it is my prerogative. Fair? Probably not, but then again I don't mind being challenged as with your comment. Also, the caveats are to let antisemites and the like know that they shouldn't waste their time. After the caveat was put into place, those type of comments did stop.

2. I suppose you did not read the links I highlighted in the piece. You would have read about my issues with my Temple and Rabbi and would know where some of the feeling of not being wanted comes from. However, having been involved since a small child in national Jewish philanthropy I do know that republican Jews need not apply, not as laypersons and most definitely not as professionals.I do not know where you live, but you can rest assured that conservative and republican Jews are considered cherem by the Reform movement in our NYC area.I would like to see the republican Jews who are happily welcomed into the reform movement that you speak of. You can rest assured that those members of the RJC who just met in Las Vegas are no more welcome than I was.

3. I do not question your support of Israel, however I do question your own sense of reality. With over 75% of the Jewish community voting for Obama despite his past allegiances to Khalidi, especially Wright, never mind Ayers and his association with the hard left, it does bring into question your priorities in thinking that Israel's survival is hardwired into your voting. Most of the Jews where I lived gave shortshrift to Israel and were more concerned about abortion than making sure that the next President of the US would support Israel. I also found ironically the misogyny against Sarah Palin among the Jewish community, which was quite frankly overwhelming.For those that are liberal at their base, the antifemale attacks against Palin and her family were revolting and not called out by anyone in the reform movement. You do not have to be pro-Palin to understand that to dehumanize her was to dehumanize all women.

4.Lastly and I think very important, is the concept that I try to teach my own children about association and reputation. JStreet contrary to its own admission is solely funded by Soros, who never met an anti-Israel organization that he did not love. The only other major donors are a strange woman in the Philippines and some anti-Israel Arabs.They continue to deny Israel their right of selfdefense. While the rest of the Jewish world castigated the blood libel in the Goldstone report JStreet wholeheartedly approved of it and sought its ratification by the US Congress. In fact JStreet has done everything it could to undermine Israel's support in Congress and could not bring itself to even condemn the slaughter of the Fogel family without mentioning Palestinian deaths as well. As if accidental deaths, which the Palestinian family themselves blamed on Hamas, and the targeted murder of a 3 month old baby and her young siblings are equal events. Furthermore, JStreet welcomes into its panoply the likes of Code Pink and members of the BDS movement. Two organizations whose sole goal is the delegitimization and destruction of the state of Israel. Code Pink has even gone so far as to bring care packages to the terrorists killing our troops (US) in Fallujah and openly and happily support Hamas in Gaza. Tell me why would any Jew want to associate with those that call for genocide against the Jewish people? Would this rabbi belong to a group that called for the dehumanization and obliteration of an African nation? I think not. So the question is why does the Rabbi belong to a group that includes those that wish to commit genocide against the Jews? It is Beinartism at its best and a refusal to see yourself in the mirror. If the Rabbi and those in the reform movement truly want to support Israel's right to exist they do not have to do it through an organization that refuses to accept Israel's right to exist as a free, independent and viable Jewish State.NO one in their right mind truly believes that JStreet is anything having to do with Pro-Israel except a few remaining deluded members. UPDATE: To try to make themselves relevant in the Jewish community, JStreet has decided to redefine pro-Israel. Read here JStreet's idea of being pro-Israel and supporting those that want to murder Jewish children (Code Pink, BDS, etc) brings to mind the inane idea that someone can still be a good person even though they are a little-bit of a Nazi. Something so inconsequential, as rabid antisemitism, can't stand in the way of an avowed socialist agenda. Socialism/liberalism/modern 21st century progressivism, these ideologies are what is of paramount importance afterall to the likes of JStreet and its supporters.

This disagreement with JStreet is not about what kind of letterhead to use. It is whether you wish to be associated with an organization that includes rabid antisemites and supporters of the murderers of Jewish children.You are who your friends are and it is one major reason why I left my Temple as well. I did not want to be seen as supportive of my Rabbi's politics.

Furthermore JStreet is such a "dirty" word in the growing activism of the Jewish community that even Debbie Wasserman-Shultz, a founder of the NJDC, which created JStreet, has disassociated herself from them publicly. That in and of itself should say something about this Rabbi.The Democratic party in their cynical attempt to stop the seepage of Jewish support has hired a Jewish congresswoman to run their organization and had her disassociate herself with an organization that she had a hand in creating. It seems the majority of Jews in the US are smarter than the reform movement and many JStreet supporters give them credit for.The fact that the Jews in this country may still vote democrat however, does bring into question the true extent of their collective levels of common sense.

5.This Rabbi may do alot of philanthropy but so do many other Rabbis. In fact other than "teacher"it is the definition of rabbi is it not? But no where did anyone mention his great scholarship (other than dance) and his teaching. I also did not see any listing or discussion of the philanthropy that he does other than JStreet. I would want to see what hands-on activity he performs. not just sitting on a board of a well known Jewish organization. That is easy and it is not more respectful than those in the Jewish community who sit in their Park Avenue offices and pontificate about how the rest of us should live and let our children carry the fight against antisemitism especially on college campuses.

The choice of this Rabbi to lead the Reform movement was no more than a cynical attempt by the Board of Rabbis to try to bring into the reform movement those that they consider unaffiliated by bringing JStreet into their midst. For some ungodly reason the Board thought that young Jews are unaffiliated because of their politics. What they might have thought about is that young Jews are unaffiliated because of the COST of belonging to a Temple, and the lack of the need since they are either unmarried or have no children. Also they might have also seen the recent polling which shows that young Jews in the US happen to be more conservative than their parents and while many are disassociated with their Judaism once they start to learn to understand their heritage JStreet is not the organization that they join.

6. I have yet to see an open ardent support of Israel since Obama has become president. in fact Frontpage Magazine, has several articles about the abject silence of the US Jewish community, i.e. the Reform movement about the Presidents seeming need to attack and delegitimize Israel. I really am not the only one who sees the cowardice of the US Jewish leadership in the wake of the virulent antisemitism that is thrown at the Jews world-wide and especially at our children on college campuses.
