ABC Engineering Library has no bar-code facility for book transactions. As on 1 January 2012 library have more than 24050 documents including CDs/DVDs. Here book transactions were operated by manually typed and written method.

Library automation and bar- coding of documents helps faster library transactions, easy stock verification and cross-checking of documents. Computerized Indexing with bar- code of books and Digital Library are mandatory norms for approval of Engineering college.(Refer : Handbook 2011-2012)

Implementing bar-codes in library requires following hardware and software:

1.Barcode Scanner(s);

2.Barcode Printer, Toner ,Self-Adhesive-Sticker-Papers;

3.Database of Library Holdings (Available in MS-Excel format in Library );

4.Library soft ware(s) compatible with day to day bar-code operations.

5.Personal Computer-2 (One for circulation counter and one for OPAC-Online Public Access Catalogue)

Implementing Digital library requires following hardware and software:

1.Personal Computer with server OS (Available in Library );

2.Scanner;(B/W scanner available in Library );

3.Digital Library soft ware(s) .

Sub: Request for changing the extended library timings decision

For the last annual meeting, management taking a decision to extended the library timings from 7 am to 10 pm. It is very difficult for the library staff to work up do 10 pm. You please thought about the difficulties faced by the Library staff before arriving on a decision.

Normally in libraries to work over time either accommodation or transportation will be provided to the library staffs. The decision arrived at now is against the interest of the staff and it should be revised.

Further enquire about the library timings followed in Institutions in India. I admit there are libraries working 24 hours. But in such Institutions have more manpower , extra payment and flexible shifting time to the staff will also be provided.

Please consider all aspects before arriving on a final decision.

We kindly request to provide a new printer with photocopy and scan facility in library. Centralized xerox , printing and scanning facility are mandatory as per AICTE norms.

The following system is our recommendation:

Toshiba eSTUDIO 207 Copier which is a multifunction machine that can Copy, Print, Scan with the option of Fax.
eSTUDIO207 has the option of Networking, Duplex (Double sided copy) and ADF (Automatic Document feeder).with a price range of 50000-70000/-

Sir,

Kindly see the new norms of AICTE during the academic year 201X-201X for books/e-books/ print journals/e- journals for engineering(UG and PG) courses.

I hope that the mandatory norms will be helpful for preparing the library budget also.

It is found that an yearly increment of 250 books per branch (UG) and 100 books per branch (PG) required. A total of 1250 (5 UG branch) +200 (2 PG Branch) =1450 books should be added in 2016-2017 to our engineering college library. Besides 25% of total number of titles and volumes each can be in the form of e-books.!

Print journals requirement consists of 40 journals.( 30 journals for UG +10 for PG courses respectively.)

ABC Engineering Library has no bar-code facility for book transactions. As on 1 January 2012 library have more than 24050 documents including CDs/DVDs. Here book transactions were operated by manually typed and written method.

Library automation and bar- coding of documents helps faster library transactions, easy stock verification and cross-checking of documents. Computerized Indexing with bar- code of books and Digital Library are mandatory norms for approval of Engineering college.(Refer : Handbook 2011-2012)

1.Barcode Scanner(s);

2.Barcode Printer, Toner ,Self-Adhesive-Sticker-Papers;

3.Database of Library Holdings (Available in MS-Excel format in Library );

4.Library soft ware(s) compatible with day to day bar-code operations.

5.Personal Computer-2 (One for circulation counter and one for OPAC-Online Public Access Catalogue)

Implementing Digital library requires following hardware and software:
