We have now received the following email from Warc:

We have received a substantial amount of feedback from Universities about the changes made on Monday 15^th March to the log-ins required for accessing warc.com.

We conducted a review yesterday and have concluded that the benefits of the new system are outweighed by the inconvenience of an extra stage in the login process.

Today March 17^th we have reverted to the previous IP/HTTP Referrer/Athens authentication methods.  Personalised logins will be discontinued for our University Clients who favour IP/HTTP Referrer/Athens access methods from their internal access points.

We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused by the introduction of the personalised login system and any shortcomings in our communication of it.  The change was well-intentioned. We believed that the personalised logins would provide a level of customisation and functionality that you would value. Our other clients have welcomed the use of personalised access.

We recognise that with the volume of students and sources available, the extra hurdle is inconvenient and does not complement how the Academic community uses such online resources on a daily basis.

Once again please accept our apologies. Both my team and I look forward to continue working with you and your university in the years ahead.

To confirm – you will not be asked to register for access to Warc.

Logging in via the University Portal, you should be able to access all Warc content without any additional registration. I would like to thank Warc for removing this barrier to student access.

Warc includes case studies, best practice papers and advertising campaigns relating to advertising, marketing and market research. Articles come from a wide range of sources, including Admap and the International Journal of Advertising.

NEW for Lincoln

A new Mathematics & Statistics Support Service to students has arrived !!  From Friday 19 March expert academic staff will be available to undergraduate and postgraduate students on a ‘drop in’ basis.

When? Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 1pm-4pm each day starting Friday 19th March. The new service will be available until the end of the Academic Year.

Where? Ground floor meeting room of the GCW Library at Brayford Pool, directly opposite the Issue Desk.

The Support will help students with exam worries and analysis for project work eg Mathematical work with algebra, equations or formulae and statistical concepts such as probability, significance testing and graph-drawing. The service has a good range of materials available to build and enhance the student’s confidence in dealing with requests for support with their mathematical work or statistical analysis.

We will not run in holiday weeks of 29 March and 5 April, but in attendance weeks starting 12, 19, 26 April and 3, 10, 17 and 24 May, finishing on 28 May.

• Drink plenty of water – use the water fountain on the ground floor.  Avoid too much coffee or fizzy drinks.  If you do want a coffee use the facilities in the Library Free zone by the foyer.
• Be organised – try and plan out your study to meet deadlines and avoid working all night.
• Work alongside friends – for morale and motivation to get work done  Don’t forget your headphones if you can concentrate better with music.
• Eat a banana instead of chocolate as there will be a slower release of energy to sustain you.
•  Be safe. Let someone know your plans to study late and what time you expect to return.  Walk home with someone.  Never leave personal items or valuables unattended.  If you are parking in the car park remember to leave your registration details with staff.

You should now be able to log in to Creative Club in the usual way, via the University Portal.

Creative Club is “the UK’s largest online advertising archive. Includes more than 1.5 million advertisements across all media. You can search by company, brand or sector, for TV, Press, Direct Mail, Outdoor, Internet, Cinema and Radio ads, from 1997 onwards. The archive is updated in real-time, so as soon as an ad breaks in the UK, it will be on the Creative Club system.”

Would all staff please be aware that there will be unavoidable disruption to the link between Lincoln and Hull on Monday 15^th March. The disruption is due to an urgent essential maintenance programme. The maintenance will require short disruption periods – Hull will experience loss of internet and data connection from 13.00 onwards.

In the meantime, you should be able to get into Creative Club using this alternative method of access:

1. Go to: www.creativeclub.co.uk
2. In the top right-hand corner of the page, click on ‘Shibboleth Login’
   
3. In the ‘UK Access Management Federation’ page which appears, select the University of Lincoln from the drop-down list, and hit ‘Select’
   
4. If you see an Athens username & password box, click on ‘Alternative login’ then use the search screen to find the University of Lincoln
   
5. Follow the orange ‘Go to the University of Lincoln login page »’ link to log in using your network\accountID and password

We hope to be able to reinstate normal login, via the Portal, soon.
