The urban space is their scenery, light sources are their transitory protagonists. LICHTFAKTOR paint their graffiti in light during the night. LICHTFAKTOR is the fusion of urban space, Street Art and Graffiti, photography and film. They paint their graffiti under freeway bridges, between dilapidated industry halls or simply on the street, the classic places where graffiti belongs. With the naked eye their works are nearly invisible. By means of a mixture of long-term exposure, stop-Motion technology and photography figures and forms are resurrected and captured for posterity on photo and film. The beats of Drum ‘n Bass Dj – The Green Man (Basswerk Cologne) are an integral component of LICHTFAKTOR’s videos, they are their heartbeat. Big in Japan gets to the bottom of the collective LICHTFAKTOR and splits it into its components. Individual work of the cooperating artists, photos, films, light objects and installations are assembled into a collage, offering an insigt into the substance which amounts LICHTFAKTOR. The title Big in Japan refers to the international success which they aquired through their online presence. Big in Japan is LICHTFAKTOR’s first comprehensive exhibition in Cologne and can be seen form the 15th of September until the 13th of October in ARTY FARTY GALLERY.

We had one crazy week in India at the “IIT Bombay Techfest 2012” thanks to all our Indian friends. Lichtfaktor did a special live performance with light paintings on stage and our “Golden Fluid” interactive media art installation.

KÖLNER VOKALSOLISTEN & LICHTFAKTOR

Die Kölner Vokalsolisten treten mit dem Programm „Carpe Noctem – Klangfarben aus dem Dunkel“ in einen spannungsreichen Dialog mit dem Kölner Künstlerkollektiv Lichtfaktor. Sie gehen durch Epochen dem Dunkel auf den Grund. Die Lichtkünstler zeigen dazu eine spektakuläre Fusion aus Bewegung, Licht und Design.

Adam and Eva Award 2011

Here is some stuff that we did at the Adam&Eva Award 2011 in Mannheim, we did two light art performances, our light painting PhotoStation and all the visual content. We created some awesome motion graphics painted with light by using our custom lightwriting software in combination with the video mapping done by farbraum. We did this light painting video in 3 cold nights in Berlin. As you can see there are no flowers in the video and it’s the first time that people get killed by light in our videos. Here is a brand new interactive tool, we call it the PaintingStation. We did this for Citroen at the artfair/blooom 2011 in cologne and created some unique car designs.

We developed our own software to do projection mapping on objects and buildings. It’s a great tool with many application possibilities. Check out this short video from the BLOOOM/Art Fair 2011 in Cologne where we did our first PaintStation for CITROËN. The commonly used term trauma is quickly resounded througout the land. The actual meaning, which is hidden behind the term psychological trauma, and what kind of follow-up it causes, is often unknown. The posttraumatic stress disorder is the most-well known diagnosis after a traumatic incident such as accidents or the experience of violence. The symptoms are very typically and can be treated quite well. Especially traumatisations, which occur repeatedly or which have happened in childhood such as sexual abuse, may cause several strains. www.takepart-media.de produced three movies for this topic and asked us to shoot a light painting animation video. Here is is a test of a new function of our “Lightwriter 2.0″ software, now we are able to do projection mapping in combination with light painting, there are many new ways for us to use this powerful function. We can paint with light on any kind of object or sculpture. Even use of a flash is possible as all light sources will be exposed to the object. More to come… Sound by the green man

We did this light painting video with all our friends in 4 long and cold nights in cologne (our home town). For us it was one of the most creative, funny and interesting time, the Chines production company became friends with us. Now we hope to come as soon as possible to China…;)

Thanks to the genius Mr. JJ, Raymond and his Team, dENiZEN and to all our friends/light painters, we definitely have to do this again.

The Video has won the “the German Web Video Award 2012″ in the Jury and Audience Price category AAA (Academy Approved Art).

We did this light painting video for a commercial in Korea for KDB (Korean Development Bank), it was the coldest production ever for us, we had freezing -15 C. We did this special light writing advertisement for a local energy provider in Düsseldorf/Germany “SWD“. What makes it so special is that all lightpaintings are done by citizens of Düsseldorf. The claim of the client is “Mitten im Leben”/ “In real life”, so we came up with the idea to let the clip be painted by citizens of Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf, because we all use energy very individually, there are many story’s that can be told… We first did a small pilot and post it to the net and TV, then we did a workshop with all the new painters (in the age of 16-60) and shoot this light writing video in 3 nights. It was a very nice experience for all of us. Thanks to André Jakoby, Andrea Höngesberg and Volker Becker for all there help and support.

Talk Talk Commercial by Noah Harris – Blink Ink. Johannesburg, July 2009. It was the biggest production ever with the very best of light painting.

We did this in South Africa because it was summer in Europe and we wanted to have long nights to do the shooting. The production included a lot of special light painting technologies. So we used a camera rig like in Matrix and used that to achieve high class light painting video. There have been a lot of light painters to make this happen.
