FREE eBooks for Children

TumbleBook Library is an online collection of electronic children's books you can access through a link on the library website.

TumbleBooks are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you. The library also includes chapter books and YA novels in audio book and e-book formats, multi-cultural topics, foreign language and bilingual books, puzzles, and games.

Among the Story Books, you can find old favorites, such as The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munch, as well as newer titles like Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin. Older students can read from a growing collection of children's classics like Black Beauty, Alice in Wonderland and Anne of Green Gables. The TumbleReadable format allows the reader to adjust to the text size which is right for them, making reading online fun and accessible.

Audio books are full length, unabridged, streaming audio books. In addition to the foreign language books, you can choose from a language drop down menu and view the entire website in Spanish or French. Spelling, concentration, and fill-in-the-blank games developed to reinforce concepts from the books and puzzles using illustrations from the books are also available.

The Library board meeting will be postponed until Monday @ 5:30pm.

Zinio, Chiltons, PowerSpeak, Price It!

The Library announces four new and exciting online services for the community.

Zinio, online magazines, offers unlimited, simultaneous access to the full-print, full-color version of more than 50 different magazines, many with bonus interactive features. Users login with their library card to create an account. Then once titles are selected, they can be viewed on the computer, downloaded, or accessed on an iPad, tablet, or smartphone. Each month the new issues are automatically delivered to your account and they never expire!

Funding for Zinio comes from the Clarinda (Lied) Public Library Foundation.

Chilton Library is an online database that provides authoritative automotive repair information. Chilton Library has thousands of year, make, and model combinations covering the most popular vehicles of the past 30 years, plus additional coverage of specialty models. Chilton Library has detailed step-by step instructions for repairs and service and also includes diagrams and videos. Access to Chilton Library can be found on the library’s website, contact the library for password.

Powerspeak Languages is an online tool that is a fast, easy, and effective way to learn to speak a foreign language. This online language learning system teaches real conversation skills for practical communication using fun and engaging interactive lessons. Five different languages are supported and they include Spanish, French, German, Mandarin, and Japanese. There’s also English as a Second Language (ESL) options for native Spanish speakers. Powerspeak Languages allows users to create an account and track their progress. Access can be found on the library’s website, contact the library for password.

Price It! Antiques & Collectibles is another online tool that provides pricing on various collectibles and antiques. Information from a variety of sources, including online auctions, such as eBay, and online antique dealers (GoAntiques & TIAS) and land-based auction houses are used to compile data. The database has over 23 million prices realized for art, antiques and collectibles in more than 100 categories and subcategories with over 10 million images. When users provide a description of their item the database will return results and recent prices for that item. Access can be found on the library’s website, contact the library for password.

Funding for Chilton Library, Powerspeak Languages, and Price It! Antiques & Collectibles was provided by the Alliant Energy Foundation and Bossingham Foundation.

These databases join the library’s already extensive collection on online resources, which include eBooks and eAudiobooks, online tutoring and practice exams, children’s eBooks and academic research.

Alaskan Travels with Chuck Morris - this saturday at 12pm

The Lied Public Library of Clarinda has been “building our community” for more than 108 years. The library not only offers numerous books, movies, downloadable collections and countless other resources; it plays a vital role in the personal stories of each and every library patron. Bird Dogs @ Your Library

Join the library for a special program on Bird Dogs with Kasey Herzberg. Kasey has raised and trained many bird dogs and is an avid hunter. He has experience raising Brittany Spaniels. Notice!!! Patron Account Changes!

In an effort to streamline access to library materials and resources the library has moved to a one password/PIN for our public computers, WILBOR (eBooks), and accessing your account online.

All three systems now use a short group of numbers from your library card barcode. This is your library barcode or patron ID; For example if your library card barcode number is 22751000012349 your library number is 1234. It’s the numbers after the set of zeros excluding the very last number.

Your PIN or Password is the last four digits of your phone number we have on file at the library. For example if the phone number is 712-542-2416 the PIN/PASSWORD would be 2416.

You can change your PIN/PASSWORD online at http://lied.booksys.net/opac/lpl/index.html#menuHomeand logging into your account at the top right of the screen.

If you are unsure what your Patron ID/barcode or password/PIN is please call the library at 712-542-2416.

With this information you can download eBooks and eAudiobooks from WILBOR.

Due to contractual obligations, certain services, such as WILBOR, are limited to residents within the City of Clarinda, rural Page County, and contracting entities. In September our system will automatically allow or deny access based on your account. We regret to limit this service, but must uphold the terms of the contract. Our other services are not impacted by this change. If you have questions or concerns please talk to the library director.

Accessing Our History

Join the library as we explore and discuss the history of the Clarinda Herald Journal with former owner/editor John Woolson. The library will also showcase its newly digitized collection of Clarinda newspapers which will allow for quick and easy searching between 1859-2005. Funding for this project comes from the Clarinda Foundation and the Clarinda Public Library Foundation.

Friends of the Library Meeting Tonight

The Lied Public Library Friends of the Library will have their semi-monthly meeting tonight at 4:30pm at the library. The Friend's of the Lied Public Library is an organization of book and library lovers who work together to promote the welfare and growth of the Lied Public Library.

The book sale will begin on Thursday at 9:30am and run through Saturday during regular library hours.

What do Friends do?

    Maintain a group of individuals interested in the library

    Focus public attention in a positive manner on library services, facilities and needs

    Help promote the use and enjoyment of the library

    Raise supplementary funds for the library

    Run the biannual Book Sale
