The last seven days have been sort of a challenge for me. I have had to deal with crazy drivers, crazy people at work, and a crazy life. Everything appears as though it's speeding up and I'm having to play catchup, but anyway. I want to blog about an incident at work. I was really jacked about it. Let's be honest here, if I blog anything about work and someone sees it, I'm toast. So unless one of you nice people out there are going to support me and the fam, I guess I'll skip that subject and discuss an event that may seem small to some but not me.

I came home the other night and my son tells me out of the blue, "my girlfriend says hi". Man. Thanks kid! Dad didn't know you had one of those. Shall I plan a wedding? Get the rocking chair ready for the porch? Maybe I'm jumping the stick a little bit here, but him saying that made me feel old. Didn't I just buy you a Happy Meal and we fought over the toy? Didn't you just ask me to keep the bathroom light on because you were afraid of the dark? How about you wanting to hold my hand because you didn't know what was around the corner, IN THE KITCHEN! Instead, "my girlfriend says hi?".

Who is this heifer that stole my kid and trying to send him home as a man? MESSAGE TO UNKNOWN HEIFER: FEED HIM, GIVE HIM MONEY! MAKE HIM DO HIS HOMEWORK! LISTEN TO HIS CRAZY JOKES! MAKE HIM CLEAN UP HIS ROOM, NOTHING UNDER THE BED! THEN YOU CAN SAY HI! Until then, we'd love to have you over for dinner.

Now what!

Well, I passed my motorcycle class with only a couple of problems. One, riding one is a little more complicated than it looks. Balancing, shifting, braking, not texting, or eating and drinking a beer are big no no's on a bike. Two, I almost dropped it, didn't think it would happen to me but it did. The good thing is the instructors, very nice people by the way, gave me another shot at it and I nailed it! Other than being nervous, that was it. Meeting other folks who shared the same interest in riding was fun too. All in all, I had a good time. After getting home when it was over, I told the fam all about it and we got a good laugh about the experience. What! Why are we laughing? Because the wife explained to me that I only told her I wanted to learn how to ride not get a bike. WTF.
Well, the class is tonight and I have not changed my mind about taking it. Call me bullheaded or whatever, but I think it is necessary to do this. Maybe I'll go out and have an accident. Maybe I'll hit someone and get sued for everything I have and don't have. Maybe I'll hurt myself badly and have to rely on others the rest of my life. This is Hoppy's perspective on this, all the things mentioned above can happen doing anything. So why not just have some fun anyway! Maybe this could be the start of something big! I'M A GROWN MAN AND MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS. I RULE MY CASTLE, AND I'M GONNA LEARN HOW TO RIDE!
15 year old son: Dad, can I have a Facebook account?
15 year old son: Because my friends have one.

Me: Not good enough. Why?

15 year old son: My cousins have one and I want to keep up with them.

Me: Not good enough. Look, your mother and I try our best to protect you from all sorts of dangers. The Internet is not a joke and should be taken as a serious tool. Facebook is great, I have an account, but I don't think your ready for the responsibility that comes with it. First off, I drive over 41 miles to work each way. Which basically means anything can happen, so I try to be careful. Most nights I get a couple of people making bonehead moves. Not last night though, one word, Special!

First, after pulling on to the main road, this <strike>asshole</strike> person starts tailgating me. No cars on either side, but instead of going around, he wants to tailgate, I could actually see his teeth, for real! For that, here's a, "Hey You!".

Next, same stretch of road, after getting rid of the "Crest" guy, I get behind this car who's driving slow, can't go around, traffic won't allow it, so I'm stuck. Finally after a whole mile, I pull along side of the car and it looks like a teen texting. We have a year old law on no texting while driving. Nothing like seeing a young person in the early stages of a life of crime! For that, here's a, "Hey You!".

Believe it or not, same stretch of road, I'm coming to a light in the right lane, I notice a car in the right turning lane, light still green, I'm good. Right? Wrong! As I get close to going through, the person driving the other car decides they don't won't to turn, so the car cuts in front of me, I slam my ABS brakes, yeah good luck with those, and miss hitting the car by inches. The person then hits the brakes and comes to a slow crawl before turning into the gas station. Damn! For that, here's a, "Hey You!".

SAME STRETCH OF ROAD! Loose that car, I think I'm good. Nope! Another car in front of me decides to cross from the far right side to the far left turning lane. No signals, no warning in heavy traffic. SOOO smart. This causes the other people to brake, swerve, stop, and curse. By the way, the swerving ones, almost hit me! For that, here's a, "Hey You!".

I need food, a drink, a bath, and to get the hell outta here.

Finally, hitting the highway, no problems. Just me and my lead foot. Then I realize, I'm tailgating too! Do I get a, "Hey You!"?

We had one up here yesterday and this morning I'm being told there are a lot of uprooted trees and debris everywhere. I am a transplant here from the south. Storms in the south can be monsters as we all have seen recently, and what we got was mild in comparison. But large uprooted trees from a 65 mph wind storm! I think the weather IS getting worse up here.
It was quickly pointed out to me that another person had died due to injuries from a motorcycle.

I quickly stated that the news does not always report the circumstances and maybe something else could have caused the persons death. VERY VERY quiet after that. Good night.

This morning while browsing the Internet, I run across the real story. The person was not wearing a helmet! We have a helmet law in Michigan and the officer was breaking the law by not wearing his. A choice is a choice, good or bad and he made his. I plan to wear safety gear, and that's my choice. My other choice will be not to mention the additional info I found to the wife, because I choose to have peace in my home! Not so! I just feel like since I have "deprived" myself for years that maybe it's time to go for it. Most people around me are concerned for my safety, which is OK, but I still would like one. In fact, I've wanted a motorcycle since I was a kid.
Thinking about it, we all feel that we missed out on something by a certain age. For me, this new obsession is one of many. I'm registered for a class that begins in a couple of weeks. A few people around me own bikes so I ask them a lot of questions. Most don't mind me annoying them. I FEEL IT'S TIME!

The deciding factor will be how well I do in the class. Just wanted to through my motorcycle thought out there before bed, I'll keep ya posted.
What a crock! I still feel the same as I did the day before. Don't get me wrong, my body tells me I'm not 20 anymore when I decide not to take the elevator but the stairs. As a man it's a ego burner, but I can suck it up and find more ego! What I did find at turning 40 was a reflection of all the bad decisions I made as a youth. And I have to say, I made my share.

Does someone turn on a switch at 40 to show you every glaring mistake made by you? I think so. After being 40 for a year, it has been the most reflective. My head hurts from so much thinking. It's like the "bad" past is haunting me. I know I shouldn't have drank that 5th of liquor after midnight knowing my work shift started at 5am, but hey, friends showed up. I paid for that one, I mean a lot! Or things like blowing my entire paycheck instead of putting it back for rainy days, still feeling this one.

There are so many examples of what I should have done and didn't, I could go on for days. My wife could probably tell you about each one! Well, it's time for me to turn the switch off, get a grip, move forward and do what I should have earlier in my life. And I'm going to blog about it.

I'll update this every couple of days sharing what I'm doing, want to do, and hope to do. I'm new to this so for all of you who want to ride, please be patient.
