What Working At A Start Up Feels Like

This opportunity was given to me about a year ago, and I have never regretted it even once. Working on couches creating and learning new things every day makes you feel amazing.

The journey starts about a year back when, being highly irritated with my previous employer, I decided to look out for new jobs. (I consider myself a crazy job applier :P). Soon, there came this opportunity with a company I had never heard of. My “crazy job applier” persona kicked in, and I clicked the apply button anyway.

In the first round, I had to fill a questionnaire which was 40–50 questions long. I am not kidding here and it felt like a gigantic task. After that, I got a call, had a Skype interview,followed by an on site interview, and as they say, the rest is history. So this is how Mxit happened to me.

My then-boss was a one-of-a-kind awesome boss whom anyone would love to have. He regarded us as an integral part of the organisation. While sharing his knowledge and giving us ample space to grow, he also motivated us to take on challenging assignments.

Outside the office, every week we went for movies, had fun together and worked even harder together.Plus, being in a new city away from family made it less complicated and more fun than I imagined.

In a startup, you have to do everything on your own, so don’t expect to be spoon fed.You learn more and strive more here because every day you are thrown a new challenge, a new deadline, a new assignment.

Most importantly, you get a first hand experience of what it is like building a company from the ground up. Seeing the numbers grow every day makes you proud of yourself and keeps you motivated.

In short, Mxit has given me something that I could have never had in a big corporate organization: the chance to experiment, grow and open up more as an individual.

Lakhs of students including men and women passout of engineering colleges everywhere. So my question is where do these women engineers go after graduation. Most of them go for further studies and others for jobs but why do we not see them as engineers working at par with men. Where does the issue lie? Take any photographs of office spaces you will hardly find any women in their.

According to a study among the 38 percent of women who entered and subsequently left the field, 30 percent cited organizational climate, characterized by non-supportive supervisors or co-workers and general incivility, as a primary motivator.

Nearly half left due to working conditions, like frequent travel, lack of advancement opportunities or low salary.

Recently the engineering giant Google also launched the made with code initiative to encourage young women to code seeing the dismal number of women coders.

Women have to balance a lot considering family life, office work etc which pushes them to the tipping point unable to handle the pressure.

If women are good they should be given a chance otherwise nothing can be done to improve this situation. They should be considered at par and equal to men.

A study has also found women who feel that they are making a difference while being in engineering tend to stay on longer at their work places.

It all lies in the want and need to feel accepted and to be regarded equal to men once corporates and offices realise this that will bring in a change.

Well sometimes we used to sleep!

Mxit has given me something that i could have never had in a big corporate the chance to experiment, a chance to grow and open up even more.

Start ups are all about being your self, opening up various dimensions about your personality, you have to do everything on your own here don't expect to be spoon fed.

You learn more, you strive more here cause every day you are thrown a new challenge a new deadline a new assignment.

Well i have been out of action for a long while maybe wasn't inspired enough to pen down my thoughts or maybe was to preoccupied with making new plans :P

2014 is coming soon i am sure we all have long list of what we want to accomplish or maybe just a small one to get things done.

I also have a small list that i want to accomplish this year and make the most of it. Always wanted to start something of my own maybe this year will be the golden year for new beginnings have been really motivated seeing and experiencing the start up culture and environment. Mxit India is really teaching me what its like to own something to be proud of it and how to handle criticism. I have done everything starting from language translations to development to social media marketing which i have gotten fond of over the time. Engaging with users has motivated me to take this on as a semi career option. But nevertheless have always wanted to own a product to build it from scratch to help people.

I really would like to thank people who helped me grow so much during the past year, who motivated me to give it my best, how to learn from my mistakes and not bow down.

They had this pure connection that no one could think of , They had a unique bond that no one would know who hasn't loved and cared for animals . They did everything together , they had this pure connection this unbreakable bond that no one could understand.

As i listened to my english teacher say these very words i fell into an everlasting introspection how these very words seemed applicable in my very life. What i want and what i get seems so far fetched and unrealistic whenever i try to... My life has not been a bed of roses every time i get do doing something i never reach to what i expected and what i wanted there seems a great pain inside of not having what i always wanted and desired..
Every time the same very feeling of giving it your all but having fallen short of expectations What does one do at such times ? What ? The good thing how ever is that the burning desire never fades away it pushes me on, there is pain inside but this desire takes me on wards and again a try i give it my best

First Day At Internship >

Well am back from hell and am happy and satisfied . The past month or so was really tormenting with no mobile phones "No Electronic Items " is what they call it there never understood the motive behind this what would poor trainees do .
I know most of you guys wouldn't know what am talking here ..but its a place called DRDO where i did my training from..... Alienating it was and typical government attitude ...
Anyhow starting out what i thought would be path breaking did prove itself .. The harsh reality came through that hard work is not enough, what you need today is much more [ a complete package].

It was 16th May and got up early because was supposed to be there by 9:30 sharp ..... Dressed in my best arrived there which came as a rude shock when i discovered that half of the people wore what they felt like and for a couple hours went mad doing formalities making ID card and what not which reminded me of college. After completing all of these approached the HRD head who sounded discouraging when starting out she told us "We don't have work in the IT field which came as a rude shock and dissapointment "... Like the rest of my life as the days passed and we got our work it turned out good :)

Tani i would say my first real friend in cs-6 she s superb listener sometimes oh no like always gets sentimental over things but an awesome person to be with guiding me in all the small things. she's surely got the brains the right attitude but gets judgemental sometimes don't kill me for this but writing to show i care or just to popularize my blog :P .

Not talking in a generalized manner but the topic seems to have a great deal of truth to it..

Our neighbourhood for instance is filled with cars all sorts of them each household has plenty of them either to show off or keep up with eachother's pace i don't know because i don't ..
Anyway not drifting away from my central topic its sad these days that the parents who have raised you, provided you with all the luxury have to be treated as misfits in their own home . There might be a difference in the way we think act from them but at the end of the day they ll always be our parents
As for the material possesions they hold not much of a significance for long you can show of your cars your jewelry etc etc for sometime but not always..
This topic stems out from what i noticed one of our neighbours bought a BMW and looking at them you woudn't imagine they could actually buy one , Those same people sent their mother to her village and regarded as her some foreigner in there own home..
Aren't you supposed to give them what they gave you A Life! your parents are worth more than this..
Care for them Love them thats what they need from you....

Show them you care because they won't be with you forever ..Give them what they deserve

All my posts follow a daily set of events that happen this happened when i was in the cab travelling like everyday Home to college , College to Home
A teacher joined us today for the ride back home dread such things they seem like one big evil creatures anyway not drifting away!
A teacher around 25 years old was talking about getting married and that her parents were forcing her to . I thought to myself this young women not so old had no say in what she wanted she seemed highly educated and well off.. is marriage all there is to life in the Indian society..
It would be sure that she would be asked to leave her job after marriage for her 'patti permeshwar' ya right .
All of this is in generalized terms but don't you think its about time when women have there say in what they want and what they do. They are earning , they are achieving , they are fending for there families . Women in India have come a long way from sitting at home cooking waiting for there husbands to be back home doing all the household chores sitting back watching soaps.. Yes they have !
Women are no more like the ladies in serials they are strong outgoing willing and straight forward . They also have there say in the family affairs and its about time the Men and the families accept it.
This is for the parents who regard there SONS everything i guess you should stop that and have trust and faith in the WOMEN for she is not weak they has a mind of her own she cares more she loves more .. For she is the one who gives birth takes care of the kids .. She is the one who will do everything...

Discovered this cool thing with Windows Live mail it has build in office 2010...A cool feature to possess to make quick word documents,presentations and excel sheets..
Plus its easy and doesn't involve much of work..Documents from our computer can also be uploaded and saved online..
A certain disadvantage is the fact at a time we can upload only upto 50mb of file size what can you expect from a built in office... Its way better than google docs where the document starts to hang when file size is large
Its possible to print as well , this alternative may provide an efficient way of storing your data and files online

OpenOffice is also a great way to get rid of the large size problems with microsoft office and can be downloaded free of cost from the site

Damn i need some inspiration!! is all people say these days so is my case The college slogging to complete assignments=useless ones , the half hearted attempts at tests aarghhh nothing seems good what to do what not to do
In the middle am drawn towards escaping it all,woudn't it be wonderful to not have any task to complete no deadlines no work sitting in a secluded island all by yourself..having that wonderful breeze blow past your hair the vast expanse of the ocean... won't it be wonderful
Alas wake up from that dream Vini that won't happen in a 100 years....
anyway coming back to the 21st century i realise that day dreaming never helps there are times you just have to wake up and accept reality
