Footloose Review

Greetings!

I had an opportunity recently from omy.sg to watch a movie preview of 'Footloose' which has opened in Cinema's here in Singapore!

This movie is based on the aftermath of an incident involving a group of students. These students were dancing the night away but as they were on their way home, they met with an accident that unfortunately resulted in their passing away. This resulted in the town implementing new rules to prevent such an incident from happening again. One of those main rules is that dancing in public is prohibited.

All in all, I would say that this is a rather feel good movie for those wanting to just enjoy themselves or relax after a hard day's work. The music and soundtrack is pretty enjoyable and there's quite a bit of eye candy to look at. Did I mention the dance moves? The're rather enjoyable to watch and they made me open my eyes to a new view of line dancing that is hip even for young people! (I used to think line dancing is only for older folks)

However, if your looking for an intriguing story then this would not be your type of movie. The storyline is predictable and the character stereotypes are also typically the same is most movies, where you get a protagonist who is new to town who has a really great ability that is different from everybody else and ends up being the change maker or 'hero' for the town.

What draws me in this movie is the setting. As the movie is set in a small town in the US, you get to see a different side of what you normally see in cinemas. It gives you a view of what life is like in the lesser known places of the US and what people normally go through there, including having their own political system. Another interesting fact is that everybody almost knows everybody in this small town!.

Overall, I would give this movie about 6.5/10. There's lots of entertainment value but its not really a movie I would watch again or be totally mesmerized with. I would only categorize this movie as a feel good movie that lets you open your world to another culture of line dancing and true western society!

Blog Revamp

Hi guys,

As I posted on facebook a couple of days ago, I am totally unsatisfied with my unfulfilled resolutions for this year. Instead of improving myself, I find myself falling down into a hole that is so deep. Firstly, I resigned from my job after only 8 months. After that I was caught in indecision on whether I should go for the School of Theology or not. I was even told by a friend that my tag was actually already prepared! Honestly, I made the wrong decision in choosing not to go...

After leaving my job, I was madly job hunting for many months! It had started to look very depressing and I was on the verge of going crazy! I practically went for about 11 or more interviews (which is a good thing ) but the problem was that I got nervous for each of the interviews and started spouting a lot of nonsense. The result? well none of them called back to me... until.. I saw an ad looking for teachers in China....

I managed to do quite well for the trial lesson and was selected to go! however, there was a little camp I had to facilitate for the Chinese students who were coming over to Singapore for a study tour.

Honestly speaking, it was the most draining experience of my life. Handling children is a tough job but I pulled through it ! Looking back, it was really alot of fun and some of the kids are really too cute! I was quite sad to see some of them leave and this experience thought me about parents' love. I now understand why parents would do so much for their children.

However, I didn't do too well in terms of controlling and managing the group of students. They practically climbed all over me and I did not leave a good impression for the staff of the Chinese school. I thought for a while if this is what I really wanted to do...

As expected, and as I knew it was coming, the school felt that I needed more experience before I could go to China to teach. Hence, they felt that it would be better if I teach at their school in Singapore first. Honestly, I was quite upset at first but after talking to my friends and family, and self reflecting, I do also feel that this was a good option to take. My friend Guowei summarized it aptly by saying that event though we may not at the place of our destiny, we can treat our current situation as a part of it. Even though I may not be able to go to China, but I am still teaching Chinese students in the school. It may be a small step but it is still a good and faithful step!

Hence, I will be writing more about my teaching experiences at the school here. As you know, there are many blogs around that motivate and inspire. This blog, however, will be a real-time encouragement and by being accountable to you readers, this blog is to encourage you to live your dreams just as I am in the process of doing so. That way we can grow as a community and support each other though this journey called life. When we look back 10 years from now, we can remember the humble and small beginnings from where we started, and how far we've come as we never stopped believing in our dreams! anybody can do it!

My new year starts now! and here are my resolutions for the rest of the year!

1. 69KG ( The most important )

2. Teaching excellence

3. Continuous serving and active ministry involvement - progressive Bible study

4. Learn basic Korean and be fluent in spoken Chinese

5. Learn pop piano

6. Perfect attendance for cell group and service unless there are unforeseen circumstances

7. Finish the Old Testament

8. Learn driving

9. Update this blog regularly

10. Make Youtube videos! at least once every 2 weeks!

Breaking News : Osama is dead

Hey guys!

A momentous victory has just embraced us. Osama Bin Ladin, the leader of the Al-Qaeda, is dead. He was reportedly shot dead in an operation in Pakistan.

President Obama has already addressed the nation and the world and said and I quote that "Justice has been done"

I do feel that we need to commend all the soldiers and operations team that have helped to capture and kill one of the most feared and influential terrorist. To those that have lost a loved one through the Bali bombings and 911 attacks, my condolences goes to you and I share in your relief that justice has been done.

President Obama has said clearly that this is not a war against Muslims, but a war against a serial terrorist killer.

I do feel we need to pray even more now that people do not misunderstand this as a war against Muslims , but rather, a victory over terrorism and that there will not be any repercussions or repeat of these terrorist networks.

You Are For Me

Hey guys,

Today I would like to introduce to you a Christian Singer, Kari Jobe. I must admit that I only knew about her when we sang one of her songs at our Easter service last week. As I was serving in the choir, it was the first time that I heard the song and the moment I heard the piano introduction, I was captivated immediately. It just amazes me how God can use singers and song writers to write such beautiful melodies.

To me, the theme of the song speaks about faith. Faith in God that He is above all our circumstances, no matter what we may be going through. I do feel the song brings to life the verse of Jeremiah 29:11 ' For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

If you listen to the introduction, Kari speaks about how she wrote this song in 1 day! and she wrote it to remind herself of God's presence and love while she was at her most down period. How awesome is that. Instead of focusing on the negative, she chose to focus on putting her trust in God and out came a beautiful song! Sometimes God uses our deepest periods to create the most beautiful stories and works of art!

Isn't it wonderful to know that we have a God who cares, who is faithful to us even when we are unfaithful to Him. So let us sing, be thankful, and remind ourselves that if we seek the Lord, He will ultimately bring us through. We just need to have absolute faith!

Remember, ' You(God) yearns for me(us) to sing to him!'

The Beginning of a Dream

Hey!, Its been a long time, but I have decided to start blogging all over again. These are the few aims and how my new blog will be structured !
